That's a fun artifact deck. A heavy control based one won something in December. Braided net is a huge value card. Chimil is extremely underrated it fits nicely into an Orzhov Midrange shell to help push back against counter spells and just overall is a huge value card. The 2 cards most people don't use to the full potential in this deck is the sawblade and the foundry. You can cycle cards out to get the replay value from a copy in your graveyard (like mightstone) and tap it first to help pay for its craft. Sawblade is a nice little 5/5 blocker that most people never see or bother to craft. As always great list love the content and video!
@@TheMTGRebellionAlways, you guys are one of the only ones who consistently cover Bo3. I learn a lot watching how the slight changes in the main meta decks and of course lots of inspiration from the brewers corner.
I agree that Domain doesn't need a ban. The meta is plenty diverse. The only place I'd argue for a ban is this summer during those bans that Wizards says it'll make to freshen up the meta (since we don't have 2 year rotation anymore). It could be argued that Atraxa has had MORE than her moment in the sun. Domain has oscillated between tier 1 and 2 for quite some time. But even if they DON'T ban it this summer, I think the meta will be fine.
My guess is unless the format gets stagnant with Domain on top, they'll leave Atraxa alone as the flagship mythic. I agree though, I'd prefer to see Atraxa gone, if only to help create a space for control decks to emerge with other top-end wincons. - Riktus
It seems to me that a lot of the "Aggro" decks listed have been called Midrange in the recent past. And, the "Control" decks listed are also much similar to Midrange decks. Is this done to try to differentiate decks in a Midrange-dominated Meta? Thanks for the great video!
Designations are mostly given to fit the platforms we pull data from to create this so that there's continuity and less confusion among players who look at multiple sources. I may abandon this approach though given how much confusion it has generated lately. - Riktus
I could see that Abzan list just being GB while still running Restless Fortress and some WG or WB lands alongside path of peril. Interesting list. Can add in other GB walkers like Nissa and possibly Vraska. Tear Asunder also seems better than March and Destroy Evil.
The question I tend to ask regarding assassin's trophy usually revolves around whether you're playing against decks with a silver bullet you have to answer, or if you're dealing with enough parity in value that a 2-for-1 disfavoring you while ramping them is a problem. If Golgari needs it, my guess is it'll be coming in as 1-2x copies off the sideboard to help shore up specific issues, but for now, I haven't seen a hefty need. - Riktus
@@TheMTGRebellion I can see using two as a main and two more as a sideboard. Destroying literally anything for two mana is a great value. Yeah they get an extra land but taking down their game win card is better. I think that it'll see play against domain decks. They get too much mana ramp anyways and Atraxa is a big threat in the late game
Honestly, against Domain, herd domain was always the scarier of the two. Atraxa is mostly about the card advantage. You can trophy, but they just went +3-6 cards while you ramped em. Trophy certainly will have a place, I just think it will be more niche than most suspect currently. - Riktus
Ok so the question I have for rakdos and golgari lists if you didn’t have sheoldred what’s the best replacement? I’ve tried a couple on arena but not sure of archers or bloodletter is the way to go
Depends entirely on where you want the focus to go. Midrange archetypes can shift dramatically based on their composition. I'd say experiment until the puzzle unlocks
Either has merit, so long as you get the reps in and sort through how to hedge the flex slots in the main correctly, along with some sideboard finetuning. In a meta this open, I don't think there are necessarily wrong choices among the tier 1 archetypes, just pivotal decisions in flex slots and sequencing. Thus, the best advice I can give is to get a lot of reps in against high-caliber players and know your lines of play so you don't bounce yourself out of the tourney with errors. Hope this helps!
If you play Mono-Red, get a lot of practice in so you know the lines (same for any deck typically). Specifically, remember that your creatures have haste, so you don't have to play them on curve to guarantee damage. I've won a number of games by looking at 1-2 untapped mana on my opponents side, then just passing. The moment they play a threat, hit it with a frenzy/strike, then untap and launch a creature at their face. There's a chess sub-game within mono-red that is quite skill-intensive. Most people think you just curve and pray, but the sub-game gives you a ton of margin points. - Riktus
@@TheMTGRebellion thank you! This is great info since I’m not as familiar with the current iteration of red. Soldiers is feeling a little out of place in the meta right now but I don’t think I’m going to try piloting something new right before a tournament either 😂
Fair. Soldiers still has a place, but I think the flex slots will have to shift and the archetype will need to evolve to meet the needs of the meta. - Riktus
I believe we had it in our Brewer's corner a week ago or so, but I'd love to get it on the tier lists the moment we see it in tournament results. Keep the faith, the deck is solid and Karlov Manor looks to improve it further. - Riktus
All about getting more data. Primarily we pull from Fireshoes, and mtgtop8, but we don't get as much regional info as I'd like, especially down south. If you've got any tourney results from down south at comp events (RCQ's and whatnot) I am absolutely down to hear any/all. We also have a discord for simplicity sake if you'd prefer.
that's the one. an unanswered Calix quickly snowballs the game out of control and they always draw Calix. I cringe every time I lose to it out of shame@@TheMTGRebellion
This meta is fucked up by all the aggro. There is literally nothing a 5-color control can do to a mono red that goes first. Even if you have a "golden" hand. Your Tier One is 4 aggro decks, one midrange (which is also pretty much aggro), and one control. That speaks for itself. I'm thinking about quitting the game yet again, as playing against all that aggro is ridiculous. You have to build an anti-aggro deck specifically to be able to succeed at any level.
Gonna be dead honest with ya here, I'm not sure I agree with your analysis. I played mono red in the prior pizzabox tournament and got rolled in round 2 by a heavily prepared domain player. Variance certainly plays a role, but I think you can watch week to week as the meta shifts and adapts to strategies. I certainly don't anticipate mono-red staying on top forever. Hoping you find joy in the game again.
Golgari and the shown Rakdos list are by no means Aggro decks. So you have Mono Red and Bant Toxic as Aggro decks, Rakdos, Golgari and Esper all Midrange decks and Ramp as the only control deck. Looks perfectly fine to me.
@@TheMTGRebellion all I am trying to say is that the Meta is really dominated by aggro right now. Specifically in BO1. 3 out of 4 games I play against some sort of aggro, be it mono-red, Rakdos (it really is aggro), toxic or soldiers. And you can't do a thing against those going second, when most of the lands you have come into play tapped, and board-clears cost 4-5. By turn 4 I am dead already, and it's ridiculous.
This series is quickly becoming my favorite thing to watch each week!
