    We took delivery of ours a couple of weeks ago (also blue but with the 17 inch inch wheels). Real world range is about 150km before you start thinking you're going to be marooned somewhere. That's fine as we rarely do much more than that a week. Rear view mirror, if you flip the knob, is also a camera and screen. I prefer the proper mirror there though. Overall, we love it. It's the wife's car but I keep borrowing it. It's not perfect and is due a software update soon, but it's definitely a 9/10 from us.

    I drove this car a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it! Coming from an e-Niro and doing lots of long trips, I'd struggle with the range, but I would go to lots of inconvenience to have one of these. It's a joy

    For the last 15 years I've had large saloons for motorway miles - Mazda 6, Mondeo, Passat, etc. Now I'm working from home 90% of the time I have a Grandland X Hybrid4 as my company car, which I love. But.... I'm really liking this Honda! I have a charge point at home and at work so this car would never run out of juice, and I agree that the exterior and interior are really unique and desirable. I have some hard (but fun!) choices when new car time comes around next year!

    • @PawelMrozik
      @PawelMrozik 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice, how do your find the Grandland? Curious about the electric/petrol ratio for the average driver. On the one hand, the car can still be used if the battery dies. On the other hand, you have the complexity of the hybrid drivetrain which I'd trust Toyota most with.

      @RichardOzanne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@R-Tap It has the option in the menu for a wide angle lens. Just the outer 1/3.similar to a normal mirror. Simple enough to do and IMO should be the default setup. Agree the addition of Analogue Controls combined with Digital is what drivers want. Now the only caveat is that i see a lot of Cars with Capacative or Touch screen controls also have Voice Activation for a lot of their controls. Tesla for eg is excellent for voice control so you can live without the " knobs " but id personally prefer them as voice control doesnt allways work for some peoples accents, and is a distraction .

    I love it! Exciting to see what comes to America in the next few years in the way of smaller urban cars. Now that I've lived with my Chevy Bolt EV a year I would be much more comfortable with less range since I can charge at home, and the new situation for me is permanent work from home. Knobs!!! I wouldn't buy a car that only has touch screen to control everything.

    • @PawelMrozik
      @PawelMrozik 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer the physical knobs and buttons as well. I think the Volt was a great idea, no range anxiety but you're still in electric mode most of the time. I heard the MX 30 will be introducing a Wankel engine as a range extender. Without that, you either need a bigger battery for longer trips, be prepared for the non Tesla charging hassle, or you'll need a rental. How do you find the Bolt so far?

    Hey Bob, id3, went in to *order* one today, it seems like either vw dearships have either gotten bad info from vw, got greedy or misinterpreted what vw were telling them. The dealership told me the price of the tech model had gone up 3 or so grand. Meanwhile vrt has halved and still entitled to 2.5 of vrt rebate along with the seai grant. Dealership wee under the impression vrt rebate was completely gone. I had to walk out of the dealership and say get back to me until the vw website is updated. They’ve taken orders since budget so I hope they’ll refund!

    that's a toy for well off geeks. For the price it's quite small and range (way) too low. Great car though for the little things like going to the gym, quick shopping around the corner etc.. But then again, for that price I have an incredible choice of various cars - including electric cars like the Hyundai Ioniq. And finally the design really is in the eye of the beholder. I personally don't think it's a great looking car, but it's different. That's what I probably would like.
    I think your review is kind to the manufacturer, almost compliant. Whether it's Honda or any other brand, and especially when it comes to EVs where most brands have little experience and almost no track record, the reviews should be tough as hell. To ask 32K Euros (base model with no options in my country) for a small car with a realistic day to day range of around 150km is quite daring. How can anyone applaud to this?

    I’ve been a fan of your great work for several years now, but, sad to say, this is not your best ! - excessive fascination and content time with the “door mirrors”, little else on other important aspects such as ride quality, interior space etc. One other constructive observation - that hand held camera is not working on this, and several recent videos, much too jerky for viewers, plus you often miss the subject your are talking about.

If you take the odd 300km trip I’m sure you can find an excuse to get a cuppa coffee for 15-20mins and away you go. EVs charge. Really fast a low down state of charge (battery %) and then you just plug in overnight at your destination. It’s a different game with EVs. They are still 5-10k too expensive though.

    How to electric car batteries handle stop go traffic? I mean it's not that uncommon to get stuck in traffic and your quick 20 min journey to take 3 hours

    • @cros13
      @cros13 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      EV are the opposite to combustion vehicles. Power consumption scales directly with speed. If you are sitting in traffic not moving you're not using any power. At average speeds of 20-30km/h crawling along in traffic you'd see range of most EVs nearly double their WLTP rated range.

    I've become a believer in long range EVs. Not because I regularly do long-range trips, but because it will significantly increase the service life of the battery. If you double the size of the battery you would likely far more than double its life, especially if you take the opportunity to rarely charge it up to 100%. If your trips are usually 30-100 km, but your car has about 400 km of range, then you only need to charge to 60 or 70% most of the time. Charging to only 80% is good, but charging to even less is better (to the degree that you can also keep it above 30-40% on the low side, which you can easily do on a long range e-car).

      Most batteries have a top buffer, so even at 100% you're not actually charging to 100%. Those that have TMS will definitely last longer. I personally like the range extender idea with a small battery, something they want to do with the MX30. The 64kWH Kona, for example, has amazing range but it is very very heavy for such a compact car.

      @@PawelMrozik I'm aware that there's a top SOC buffer. There's usually a lower SOC buffer too. But those buffers are usually 7% or less, so charging to 100% means you're all the way up to 93% or more. That's higher than ideal for a long service life for the battery. 80% is better than 90%. 70% is better than 80%. I personally charge to 60% max. I want that battery to last the life of the car. I'm concerned that Honda-E batteries won't last the life of the car for many people. Whereas a battery twice the size that's charged to 70% probably would.

      @@ScrapKing73 I'd say like most manufacturers with their first EVs, Honda have probably set up the BMS to act very conservatively. But I agree with the rest of your assessment.

    Ugliest car I’ve ever seen Bob sorry and it’s a Honda , I had a new 2017 civic had to get rid of it there were so many problems and Honda Ireland were a joke to deal with. Honda not the car it used to be, even when you closed the door that sounds cheap.

      You regain some of the energy lost when going uphill with regenerative breaking when going downhill. It all depends on how far you're driving and if you can charge a home. The Zoe, for example, will take you much further than the Honda E on a single charge, but do you actually need it? For me the Honda E would work as a second car. My yardstick for an EV is whether or not I can get from Waterford to Dublin on a single charge, but your mileage may vary is an even more important phrase.

    I love the fact that 90% of people here like this toy of a car. I’m in the other 10% that likes Mazda MX30, same range, better looks, less geeky tech.
    I hope Honda sells ton of these tho, it’s perfect for millennials honestly.

    From the outside that doesn't look great, certainly not one of the best looking, for gods sake man it looks like the front is squashed, like it's crashed into something ;) I know looks are subjective but it's not a pretty car, not fugly either but certainly not pretty.
