It was like that for quite a while here. Most thrift stores wouldn't take them or put them out, but over the last few years with the resurgance of VHS collections they got wise and started selling them again. The flea markets tend to be better though. The best is a VHS swap meet/video screening party that happens every couple months.
This is splattered with creativity, my dude. Outstanding idea! It makes me want to get a hold of one those neon green TMNT tapes and use the little turtle action figures in a similar way. So many ideas!
Have you thought about doing something with the box sleeve too. Then you could display the box with the tape. I think step 1 for me would be epoxy to make it durable.
Awesome! Should have glued chains at various angles like they have shot across the room, maybe rubbed the inner edges of the Windows with low grade sandpaper to simulate steam/mist/smoke.
OMG... I just saw that movie again this week end after 35 years. Saw it first in a drive in when I was 16. This whole diorama is very creative and perfectly match the flick. I will watch the second one this week end. Thanx Mister J for sharing your creativity
That is pretty sick. I have seen a company that makes dioramas in picture frames around a game cartridge like World 1-1 with a Super Mario Bros cart or whatever. This is even cooler then that.
This is an excellent display piece! Sometimes, to think "outside of the box;" you really do need a box to stay inside of. Good luck with other, similar projects!
This is super I'm tempted to do it myself. I'll have to dig through the VHS pile at goodwill. Not putting it in the sleeve is a good thing I think. Better for display that way.
Very cool idea! A few years ago I tried to build a puzzle box replica. At that time I only had an FDM printer and the pattern was too filigree for that. In the end it became an oversized puzzle box that I use as a flower pot.
for led brightness control, dot of cyano glue+baking soda on the diode itself. it will turna hazy clear white as we know from using the combo for structural use.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial try it, you arent putting on a giant mound of bicarb, just a sprinkle to mess with the focus. though not the case here, careful on 12v led tape/strip as the glue will impede their heat transfer and they tend to run hotter. will burn out quick.
This is really cool and I'd love to see what you come up with for other VHS dioramas. Have you thought about using EL panels for the light? You can cut them to size so they're easier to fit in than the string of LEDs and you don't need space to diffuse the light because the whole panel glows.
Totally, I looked into them for this but they weren't very cost effective or quickly available. It's something I want to look into for future ones though.
This is a beautiful love letter to a sinful franchise! Would love to see more movie dioramas either in tape housing or in the old school plastic clamshells!
Such a great idea, and I love how it feels recognizably Hellraiser-y without characters or the cube. I have some Star Wars vhs tapes that I should think about doing something with.
So now you need to get a digital version of the movie, put it on a usb stick, put the stick in what you made and add a cable that runs out so you can plug it into your computer and watch. Then it is still a usable movie!
For light diffusion the diffusion layers from old lcd backlight panels should work better than tissue. DIY perks has some great projects relating to this for making fake window light frames, larger scale but it demonstrates the effectiveness of the diffusion.
Awesome!!! It has the feel that a cenobites is going to walk past the window. I wish I’d kept my VHS from all my old movies!! Well done Jeremy way to inspire us AGAIN 🤘🏻
For the battery case, you could have put that in the middle with the foam core spacers with the switch sitting out towards the hole so you could turn it on and off.
Great video i like your tribal drumming blood splatter technique i used a tooth brush to create stars in the night sky on a diorama i made by dipping the bristles into some paint then pulling back the bristles like a trigger .
That turned out sooo good. You did such a awesome job. I love the Hellraiser movies and Pinhead is the best horror movie killer. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
So little goes such a long long way (to hell. . . and back maybe). That is superb Jeremy, I really love it. I would mount it in a deep frame/ shadowbox, again raised for that backlight effect and also include the sleeve [opened out to lay flat]. I thought of Day of the Triffids and that took me to the idea of things breaking out of the case, e.g. boarded up windows with zombie arms reaching out [slats again] for Night of the Living Dead etc.
That looks pretty cool. I like it. They make really tiny fishing hooks that would have looked good but you might not have had them on hand. Still the end result is pretty good. Nice video
That is Awesome!!! I just got online for the first time today and was checking my YT subscription page... I clicked your link so fast! First video watched of the day. :) I love the Hellraiser movies too and I agree with you about 1 and 2 etc. Thanks for sharing this. When I was at Art School I wanted to be a Visual Effects Artist and at the time Hellraiser II came out and there was a demonstration of how the Make-Up team did the iconic fleshless guy, covered in blood, we stood in a tiny room in the top of Forbidden Planet (an iconic London comic book store) and watched the 4 hour process, of turning Kenneth Cranham into the horrid creature, then we got given a huge (like 5'x4') free poster of the Pinhead and the crew and the actor signed it, along with some random guy who was hanging around - i had no clue who he was, but they were signing so I went along with letting him sign it, it turns out it was Clive Barker - anyway i had that poster framed and it sat atop my bed for years. I kept it for years after, but eventually gave it away, it was ripped and battered and my interest had faded. I never did become a VE Artist, but i can still do cool zombie make-up at halloween!!

I'm kinda astounded no company has thought to do this as a line of collectibles. With VHS vintage style boxes being all the rage for other products, having VHS encased collectible dioramas seems like a home run. Quick destroy the evidence and make a Kickstarter
This is my new favorite channel! I just made a lament puzzle Kleenex box a few weeks ago. Bonus points for Skinny Puppy tape, was just into some Too dark park and had to take my headphones off to view such sights you showed us.......
Veru fun idea, Jeremy! Why stop at the movies? I see some great cd cases on that shelf that could use a diorama. Headhunter's a gimme, but maybe now we can figure out what a tactical neural implant actually is.

Now you have to do it with the Canadian Gore classic Videodrome. But you have to do it with a Beta cassette because that's thematic.
This is such a cool prototype! I'd love to see a whole series of these.
Love it! Always cool to see crafting for the sake of pure art.
love a bit of Clive Barker myself, also... I need that VHS for my collection. 😢
For some reason I seem to find a copy every time I’m vhs hunting, but NEVER part 2 ☹️

The most understated build I’ve seen and I love it! Would make an interesting shadow box addition. Love it!

A great project on subject material I love. Especially since I first saw "Hellraiser" on VHS in 1988.

You’ve seen the infomercial for Hellraiser merch right? The utter shock I had when that played at the end of my vhs copy had me in stitches
