    Yes, I love petrichor, and yes, Thunderstorm captures it best (imo). I think it's a brilliant scent!

      That one is really spot on for me too! It's not something I felt I wanted to wear but I was astounded that it was so evocative of a thunderstorm when I smelt it! 🙂

      @mountainkat5248 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I completely agree with you. I'm not a fan of any of the Demeter sprays to be honest. The roll on versions are much better, and this is especially true when it comes to Thunderstorm, imo. It is not a scent that I would recommend for anyone looking for complements, and it's not something I would wear in public in close quarters , but the instant I see storm clouds, I run for my Thunderstorm roll on and go sit on my porch and wait. The experience is everything.

    Recently I'd purchased a sample from our local perfumer Z.Yang called Petrichor -it took my breath away! Grassy, a bit citrusy and juat great smell that i have no words to expressed. She did have tonka in the based for a hint of sweetness. Its soooo good. I love the smell of grass, tea etc!

      Oh no worries! Petrichor is really interesting, I think the earthier tones are perhaps less friendly for most people. I think many people think of petrichor as something more watery and are a bit shocked when they smell geosmin. 😂 Good luck and thanks for watching 🥰

  • @herlaqueen
    @herlaqueen 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I love petrichor so I will see if I can try some of these fragrances! One that doesn't exactly smell like petrichor but is kinda adjacent is Hermann à mes Côtés me Paraissait une Ombre by Etat Libre d'Orange, instead of the scent of when the rain first hits the dry, warm ground (or asphalt in the city) it is more like as if you were in a rose garden during an autumn rain. It does have some of that ozone and wet ground notes, but it's definitely "colder" and "wetter" than the scent I personally associate with petrichor, which for me is a "sudden rain during a hot summer day" smell. I tried it a year ago and the 50 ml bottle was my self birthday gift a couple of months later, I absolutely love how it captures the rainy mood.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I think a lot of people take petrichor for just rain don't they? But you're right, it's more about the hot wet earth really. I do think I prefer the more rain based smells though. It's hard to find anything in the designer realm that comes close, it is, by definition, a less mass market kind of smell. I need to try more from ELDO, the few I've tried have been very interesting and one a love! Haha 😂 I also self gift 😉 I got Bouquet Encore for my 40th this year. Thanks for watching 🥰

    Being an ultimate outdoor-man, of course I love most kinds of petrichor. I am living in a forest with old oak and pine trees. So my favorite petrichor contents the scents of wet wood und stones, moss, earth and pine. And I also like to wear it when visiting the town or the city. To me Baei 19 captures more earthly components of the petrichor compared to Maison Margiela after the rain stopped. Maison Margiela smells plain fresh, crisp and watery. So I bought Baei 19 because of the more earthly smell of the petrichor in it. It evokes a nostalgic feeling of my childhood living at the foot of a hill where it receives the highest annual rainfall in my country Malaysia.

    I'm feeling a little ashamed that after almost 40 years on this earth, I've only just learned the term that's described the fleeting scent I've experienced all my life and long for every summer. Almost akin to marvelling at a rainbow knowing that you won't see one again for possibly another year or two.
    The storms that came after our most recent heatwave brought this scent back to me, it begins in that 45 seconds when you hear the rolling thunder in the distance, the humidity plunges and you just know it's going to chuck it down any second now, and then it does, the roads and pavements slowly saturate, 3 minutes of heaven on earth and then it's gone for another year and I'm left feeling both satisfied and nostalgic thinking "if only I could bottle that feeling."
    This video makes me very very happy, Thank you so very much ❤️

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's absolutely amazing isn't it? A truly stunning smell! I love summer storms, I even like being outside in them 🤣 but the smell is something that takes me back to childhood. I am not sure I want to smell of petrichor, but I do love the smell of petrichor if you understand what I mean? Thanks for watching ❤️

    • @NimpanZ
      @NimpanZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dr.claire.perfume I absolutely understand, there's lots of things that I love to smell but not sure I'd like to smell of: funfair candyfloss, the neighbours' barbecue, slightly damp freshly cut grass, mum making caramel in her kitchen, real coconut water/milk, the smokiness in the air after a fireworks display etc. I would possibly wear the smell of real strawberries but I'm unaware if it's been perfectly replicated in fragrance, strawberry flavour doesn't do it justice.
      Summer storms are so wonderful but it has to be that "fat" rain that slaps down on your skin for me to just stand there and soak it up if you know what I mean.
      Now I understand that there's different petrichor varieties, I can explore and won't be too dismayed if I don't find my interpretation straight away, there's a lot of pollution in London which probably adds to the composition of "my petrichor"
      I have distant relatives in UP, India and so the next time I visit I'll look into getting some Mitti Attar for you to sample as I'm sure you may enjoy the rural petrichor scent more than I could appreciate as I've been a city boy my whole life.

    • @dr.claire.perfume
      @dr.claire.perfume  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NimpanZ yes strawberry seems hard to replicate in fragrance. There are some really bad attempts out there. 🤣
      And yes! Proper storms only 😜 I bet petrichor in London is tremendously different to the countryside and certainly also Uttar Pradesh where I imagine it is different again. I wonder how much the mitti attar smells of clay and whether the sandalwood oil base is distinctive in it? It would be amazing to find out. Thank you! 🥰

    Fantastic informative video, really enjoyed that Claire, full of lots of useful info. Have you ever tried Tank Battle by Lush. That is supposedly inspired by Tachowa Covington and the battle to keep his home, an abandoned water tank on the highway of California, after being tagged by Banksy. I get bubblegum and an earthy wet rain feel from it. Can’t see any notes that would suggest it’s petrichor but it’s a wonderful smell. Love these videos, you are proper schooling me. 🙏🏻👍🏻

I know a lot of their fragrances have stories behind them, I was listening to an interview with the founder Mark Constantine and he was talking about Dear John being about meeting his father for the first time. Anyway, I love bubblegum 😍 and that sounds an insane combo of notes, so I will seek it out! I love a bit of weird 🤣 thanks so much for watching Barry! 😊

    I feel like you need your own BBC 2 fun science show.
    I leant so much from this that I didn't know. The chemist's and perfumers are so clever to recreate it.
    I guess I'm used to it on limestone and grass being from where I am. I don't think I've smelt it up north or maybe like you kinda said, I can't smell it up here in a more urban area. And the rain isn't the same this far north. I like it in nature in perfume I'm not too sure.

      Yeah I'm not too sure in fragrance either, I don't think I want to smell like geosmin for sure... Ozone maybe... I like sparky, computers, hot machinery. But yes, lush wet, after the rain is a beautiful smell when you are somewhere you love. Dad's garden has tiger lilies and a big laurel bush and I always think about how those smell when they are wet when I imagine dad's garden when I think of childhood, I wonder what terpenes those give off? 😊

    I live in Las Vegas Nevada USA and its very arid here. Not tons of vegetation. And it rains relatively infrequently. So we get a good concrete and pavement petrichor after rains in the hot summers. Probably heavy on ozonic and whatever aerosolizes from the concrete or pavement. I have a small petrichor scent collection, and the best concrete petrichor scent I know of is Roja Parfums Oceania. This is from my Fragrantica review of it:
    The best petrichor "after the rain" scent I've yet smelled. Not a true maritime/oceanic scent like EROLFA, which is the best of that oceanic genre (best "salty sea spray" scent) ever. Oceania is the freshly wet concrete of the marina after a rain shower moved through before you get in your sail boat and get underway. The rain stops, the sun comes back out and the rain water starts evaporating in whafts up to your nose, mixing with the scent of the nearby flowers and greenery.
