As someone who's been shipping this for years I am honestly in awe with how much it's caught on because human/non-humanoid alien ships fucking _never_ become a popular thing. What a time to be alive lol.
Also the critics were *wrong,* the movie was awesome.
The critics were absolutely right, Venom is a very poorly made movie. If you're just there for the B-horror shlock you'll enjoy it, but you're kidding yourself if you're pretending it fits any good standard of filmmaking. The pacing is a mess, it has poor editing, the story is all over the place and everything not involving Eddie is badly acted and feels irrelevant.

i went to see the movie purely because i logged into tumblr and saw all my stucky blogs had become symbrock blogs. sony better thank their monsterfucker audience for the free hype, because their trailer was terrible.
I saw it, and yes, Symbrock was 98% the reason I loved the movie; the other 2% goes to Anne. The plot was thin and the villain serviceable but I bet my left eyeball I'll forget he existed by next week. And yet I WANT A SEQUEL purely for more Symbrock.
I Really love this ship bcoz it’s canon. They even had a baby in First Host. What’s even more uwu is that Venom tried to keep it a secret from Eddie bcoz he was genuinely afraid that their kid would be villanious like carnage and he wanted Eddie to raise it because he wants the new kid to be heroic. Luckily the baby turned into a pretty strong, empathetic symbiote because he was “nurtured by its parents”. UGH GIVE ME SOME DOMESTIC DADS FANFIC OF THESE TWO!!
I never fully understood the idea that enjoying something in fiction = enjoying/supporting it in real life. Reading a BDSM story doesn't mean you want a BDSM experience. Writing an abusive relationship doesn't mean you think that's okay.

When you interact with a fictional work there is an unspoken agreement that none of this is real. If you watched Hannibal and immediately put on your murder gloves then that's not the show's fault, it's yours. If you watched Venom and came out interested in the relationship, that doesn't mean you actually want a symbiote or to get vored by slime. And even if you do, that's impossible (sorry), but as long as you aren't hurting yourself or other people, who cares? Social media has blacklist functions for a reason, use them and stop being a buzzkill because no one forced you to look at tentacle sex in the first place

The original concept of venom is pretty dark, it was about a woman who was pregnet and her husband was hit by a taxi driver who was distracted by Spider-Man. Venom than fused with her and they both vowed to kill Spider-Man and the cool thing is that Spider-Man can’t sense when venom is about to strike.

To be fair though, Eddie doesn’t have to kill to survive. The chemical found in brains that the symbiote needs to survive is found in two other sources: chocolate and people in love. So as long as Eddie loves his symbiote and/or gives it chocolate, it’s cool

In both comics and movie, since they basically kiss in the movie, and it's later made clear it's Venom's idea. Also they have kids in the comics. So for once in your life, try not to go all judgmental and watch the movie before you pull me aside and make fun of my ship." It got p uncomfortable after I scolded her but I think she got the point PS. To be completely honest, I came to this ship for the kink, before I even watched the movie (not because I didn't want to. I wanted to. A lot. I just didn't have the time), and stayed for the snark and unexpected fluff(?) - though the kink is still excellent. And I've definitely been intrigued to check out some of the comics...
As for kink in fandom and shipping, I personally think that as long as tags are used and people know what they're getting in to (or are just curious to check it out) it should be fine, most of the time. But with tumblr being so popular, and that being more of an opt-out kind of consumption of fandom, it's easier for people to run into things they don't want to see (which is why I've been enjoying new attempts at fandom platforms which makes it easier to regulate - pillowfort is making a strong case for itself, though it's still in beta).
I feel like this pairing is trying very hard to wrap me in it's tentacle-ie embrace and drag me down into it's deep, kinky, problematic depths. I don't know how much longer I can hold out... I don't know how much longer I'll want to. LOL 😉
Don't hold yourself back from enjoying something fictional that doesn't even hurt anyone. Go for it. Go for the tentacle smut.

now this is an interesting pairing. smut isnt really something im interested in. but symbrock is an unusual pairing as symbiosis is a main theme. the truth is love takes many forms and this ship explores so many aspects. its unusal and brilliant because it makes us take a look at how relationships work.

I watched the video. I'm in.
Literally started reading the comics yesterday, all thanks to the movie and I'm honestly SHOOK by how straight to the point this ship is?? it's not even a 'read inbetween the lines' it's straight up canon, hell, Venom compares their relationship to a marriage, they had a child, don't take a shot everytime they hold hands or you'll die, and on the last chapters released, Venom admitted out loud that he loves Eddie.
Ngl, I wasn't planning on going out of my way to watch the movie at all until I saw the ship, simply because I was worried I'd be super disappointed. Admittedly, the movie itself isn't the best (lots of tonal issues, awkward plot points, and a weird concept of time) but I immediaatellyyy fell in love with the characters and am now in Symbrock hell. Pray for all of us (or don't, I'm pretty damn happy here.)
I see a very good chance of the Venom series ending up like the Thor series in the way that, when it started out, the movies really weren't the best, but people easily latched onto the characters and, eventually, better movies came out of it along with better developed characters. One can only hope! The faith of Venom rests in the hands of Sony so I hope they do him righhtttt.

Ok so I literally just saw venom last night and before I saw it my friend told me that he shipped symbrock, and I kinda did to but once I saw the movie it went from my low-key ship to my OTP
I was surprised twice by this ship... first time when I realised it took me over a week after seeing the movie to check if there are ffs for it.. second time, when I did and saw how many there were :D. Though I did not read any of the Venom comics, so I did not notice that it was a "pre existing condition" :D. Guess I am more used to regular slash ships, which I am ready to dig out of a great number of things :D. But the million open Ao3 tabs are promising to be very entertaining :D. And I love the cutesy fanart, like the Venom-posing-as-clothing-item sort :D.
And I have 15+ years of ff reading experience, I usually slap "too kinky" only on stuff that insist of running away way too far from it's own canon, where you end up wondering if someone just needed names and faces for their OCs :D.

I'm definitely into the Eddie x Venom relationship from the comics, but I'm not sure how I feel about the movie yet... I like the movie, but I am still not 100% sold on Tom Hardy as Eddie, nor am I sure how I feel about the Venom CGI, and I think that's giving me hang-ups about the movie-inspired version of the pairing. Maybe I just need to see the movie again to get more comfortable with these representations of the characters.

One thing I’ve noticed with this video and another recent video (but I can’t remember which one) is that it sounds like the voice over explanations are being spoken a little too slowly, or slower than it used to be. In the previous video I even had to try watching in 1.25 speed. It could just be me and a personal preference of mine but I find you’re speaking just a little too slowly that it makes me really uncomfortable 😂 that sounds weird but I am weirdly hypersensitive to things being in “slow-motion” and it gives me the feeling of your voice being slowed down. Idk this is a really personal thing and maybe I’m the only one. It won’t stop me from viewing or loving your content. 💖 but just thought I would share my thoughts/feelings because it isn’t something I’ve noticed before in your videos.

Their relation was initially a case of co-dependence in the Comic's.
Venom biologically always needs a host to survive, and Eddie was a depressed and suicidal individual who desperately needed someone at that stage in his life.
Venom gave Eddie a purpose again and their mutual hatred of Spiderman created a powerful bond.
Over the years Venom and Eddie continue to to get the best/worst out of each other, and you can really kinda see them as a married couple by now.
They are bonded in a way most humans do not understand, most people do not look beyond the physical while that is actually the least important form of bonding.
Their relation is based on a merging of souls on the highest level possible.
This movie has gathered so many new fans that make it interesting to see how their view on Symbrock is from fans of the comics. I hope that this will give the attention to the series as smthg to consider more in the future.
I was a little surprised by what you addressed in the middle of the video. How ppl don't like ships sometimes when it's considered too out of the ordinary or non-canon. For a while this has been the case for some series, but in Venom's case it's always been around. I hope that means fans have grown more used to the idea of human/non-human ships. 2. Yes, I enjoyed the movie a lot (watched it yesterday)!
3. I don't read superhero comics, usually, I primarily enjoy the movies.
4. I did not think this film was a rom-com but I get the reference.
5. Smut and kink in fandom... I personally am not too much into either of them, I am not interested in kinks per se. I can live with some smut but I prefer it on the soft side, both, when it comes to writing or reading fanfics and I am not into too graphic artwork. But that's just my personal taste. May people enjoy what they enjoy :)

I tend to view the Venom/Eddie ship as something akin to witnessing a severe injury that is visually gross yet oddly fascinating instead of nauseating. I can't say I like it but I find it plausible to happen since something just clicks even if it looks and sounds odd or "gross." I've read through the recent comics to get better insight and it frankly shows them going through what many couples can relate to during hard times, making the ship even more plausible, though questions of how "healthy" this relationship actually is, is not something I can reliably figure out since I'm not mental health assessor or something.
