The firmware site currently doesn’t support the CR-6SE but does support the 4.2.7 board for those that install that board on an Ender 3. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused.

Hi- How long did it take for you to gain access to the firmware? I created an account. Paid through paypal. It's only been an hour, but I'm curious.
I've had so many issues with my E3 4.2.7 since adding my BLtouch 3.1. Weird glitchy random things. Tonnes of great prints, then boom. Test prints good. Regardless. I'm hoping this is at least helps.
By the way, your videos are great help!

I upgraded my 8-bit to a skr mini v2.0 with latest firmware from their GitHub. I can highly recommend this for anyone. Silent drivers, built in bed levelling features and the quality of the prints are better than the 8 bit. And it’s really cheap and moderately easy to do. I’m on a ender 3 pro. Only other upgrades are glass bed and yellow bed springs.

Fiasco is a good word for it. I got a Ender 5 pro, came with an 8 bit board. A week or two later they ship with the 32 bit board. I decided to change that as I wanted an easy way to install a BLtouch and the runout sensor connection was nice. However, all the cables were glued into place and my E cable was damaged (somehow) when I removed it. I had to order a new cable. That and the confusing array of firmware with and without features means this is definitely still a tinkerer thing - but personally I want to tinker with making prints, not doing endless 'upgrades' for something that should already work.

    • @CRCinAU

You just described the exact reason I started the Marlin Firmware Service. Not everyone is a programmer and has the ability or even want to figure out how to build firmware for their printers. Some just buy a printer to focus on printing - not the intricate workings of firmware and low level problems.

    • @airingcupboard
      @airingcupboard 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@CRCinAU I've compiled Marlin, but actually you end up introducing more bugs or things like mesh levelling actually made leveling harder to achieve of control (on the fly adjustment for calibration is essential - controlling the stepper motors ads another variable for error). Easy way to tell the difference between 8 bit and 32 bit boards is the usb connector, its usb mini b on 8 bits, 32 bits have micro usb. Also, the 4.2.7 does not have the same drivers as the 4.2.2 either, 4.2.2 in the ender 3 v2 has tmc 2208's (HR 4988 for ender 3 v1), the 4.2.7 has tmc 2225, which is just tmc 2208's with a different package, but the pins are indeed different, which requires changes in marlin.

Thank you for this awesome video. I bought an Ender 5 Pro from Amazon that arrived about a week ago, and although I am thrilled with the general construction and print quality of the machine, I was very disappointed with its firmware. The menu was missing a lot of the functions that I was used to seeing in my other printers, and what's more, the Creality site did not have the source code for their version of Marlin for the Ender 5 Pro; all you can find are compiled .bin files. After watching some 'Teaching Tech' videos about how to customize 32-bit Marlin 2.0 firmware using Visual Studio Code, I was able to download the latest 'bugfix' version of Marlin and customize it properly for my Ender 5 Pro. Now I not only have the filament change function, but I also have 4-corner (plus center) assisted bed leveling, Z-axis babystepping, individual homing on all three axes, and a 'refresh media' function that works well with my SD to micro-SD card adapter. But, at the same time I am very disappointed in Creality for not including at least some of the functionality that I added in the firmware. For crying out loud, if I was able to figure out how to do it in a few hours, they should have been able to do this, and it would cost them virtually nothing. Thanks again for your excellent videos.

Spot on Chuck. The folks at Creality are obviously smart, so why they would not invest an hour of time to put out good firmware with the latest features and bug fixes is beyond me. I can understand the different boards, as long as its well documented there is no issue. But they don't do that. I have the impression its a bunch of engineering types in the lab with no business sense. Fortunately I have taken the time to learn how to compile the latest with best features for my Ender 3 4.2.2 board. I had that AWFUL problem with my ender 3 v2 that Thomas Sanladerer also had. In vase mode, the print head slowed down every quarter of a layer to deposit a little blob of filament, and it looked like my vases had acne😂. I ended up compiling my own firmware using the files from GitHub and the example configuration from there. It entirely solved the problem, and it actually solved the "store configuration" problem where it saved configurations on the sd card instead of on the board. It also fixed some translation errors in the display. I followed Teaching Tech's guide, which made it really easy for me. Overall, the ender 3 V2 is a great machine, and you definitely get more bang for your buck with that one over the CR6 SE.

Thanks for posting. So now my question (Chuck), is...am I able o upgrade my current board to the latest 4.2.7 using this stock board that came with my ender? Is the CR-6 firmware regularly updated like the others? I don't know if it's a good idea to get a subscription to this site if the CR-6 isn't all that well supported.

I wonder if their 32 bit oem boards just don't have enough memory to handle the full firmware package? I know the sks mini board had some problems where some of them didn't have a chip with enough memory and if you wanted to install say, a bl touch, you had to disable another feature to get it to fit in memory.

    • @bob2859

I sure hope not- 128k is the realm of the old 8 bit chips, and the reason it's hard to fit everything.
The 32 bit board uses a stm32f103c8t6 with 64K x 8 flash, or 4 times the old board.
Of course with the graphical interface that extra might get eaten up!

How about using the Unified firmware from TH3D which is based on Marlin? They have versions for both 8-bit & 16-bit boards (Unified 1 & 2). Works for all the major Creality printers (and several others), adds back all the bed leveling routines and simplifies the firmware compiling process with VSCODE & PlatformIO. Have been using it with my Ender 5 Pro (4.2.2 with 2208's) for about a month with really good results. I literally did my first compile in 3 minutes. It's totally FREE but you can also add some of the TH3D's products like the EZABL & EZOUT if desired. They also have awesome support and great docs & videos. They do lots of testing prior to releasing, so you can be assured what they release will work with your printer. Would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks.

Ender 3 Pro and BLTouch adds to the fiasco - Update 2/2023
I got an Ender 3 Pro (Box label reads "Ender-3 Pro-B") from Micro Center in September of 2022 and it worked pretty well for me. But I got tired of manually leveling the bed and decided to upgrade it to the BLTouch. I saw more than one version - one with two plugs and another with a single 5 pin plug for the 4.2.2 board. Creality sells the BLTouch with the brackets and all, and I identified that I had the 4.2.2 board, so I ordered it.
The fiasco began when I installed it. Following the instructions, I downloaded the recommended firmware and installed it, then mounted the sensor. It had all kinds of erratic symptoms. After some research, I found that Creality changed MCU processor chips mid production. The original board used an IC with a part number beginning with "STM", and apparently there are no issues with it. However, the new MCU part number begins with "GD". Mine is a GD32F303. Creality has two firmware files for the GD boards and the CR-Touch/BL-Touch. So I tried each of them. Neither one works properly on my otherwise stock E3P. I have searched widely for working firmware and have not yet found any. I finally re-loaded the original firmware and disconnected the BL-Touch and am waiting for a solution....
So, if you are considering the purchase of a BL-Touch to an Ender-3 Pro, take the cover off of your PCB box and look for the MCU chip. If it say STMxxxx, go ahead. But if it says GD32Fxxx, WAIT.
