ENDER 3 / ENDER 3 PRO With Board 4.2.2 - How To UPDATE FIRMWARE

  • ((Please read the update information below))
    Hi guys,
    up until now, both Ender e and Ender 3 Pro were equipped with the Creality 1.1.4 boards.
    However, since around mid-July of 2020, users started to receive the Ender 3 Pro with a different board…the V4.2.2.
    This is the same board that comes with the brand new Ender 3 V2.
    It seems that Creality will make this new board as a standard with the Ender 3 Pro and probably the Ender 3 as well.
    In this video, we will explain how to get, edit and upload the firmware to this new board.
    ♦ UPDATE:
    we noticed that lately some users are having issues compiling the latest Marlin version (2.9.0.3).
    So, for that reason, we decided to make a quick video, explaining why this is happening and how to fix it.
    In that video, you can also find some information about the new chip (GD32F303RET6 instead of STM32F103RET6) that is being included on some recent printers.
    You can check the video here:

    Absolute life saver ! I have like many others been looking for hours about 5 or 6 now to try and get new firmware on my E3 Pro, I popped her open saw the 4 pin saw the version on the board and knew it was a newer board. I thought I was screwed ! literally every single tutorial even 2020 ones are still the old board so thank you for sharing I now have a working E3 Pro with Fully Customizeable Vanilla Marlin running

    So........... the SD card that came with my stock Ender 3 crapped itself. I grabbed the first SD card i could find and tried to use it. Well, it turns out that it was for a Raspberry PI to run as a Nintendo NES emulator. The Nintendo bin file was still on the card. So when i plugged it in, I basically told my Ender 3 to become a Nintendo NES. *faceplam* of course it bricked it up. I used THIS video to get my Ender 3 back happy again! Thanks again! This video works. just do it EXACTLY step by step and you'll be printing in no time! *insert Mario music*

    Hey man, thank you for this video. I just got my Ender 3 Pro a few days ago, and I've spent the last two days disappointed because somehow my firmware got hosed (I think due to a bad SD card) after my first print. I hope you make a million bucks. Take care.

I followed all of your steps and was still having issues but I tried using a different SD card and it worked like a charm.
    I also saw somewhere else to unplug the printer for a few seconds before replugging and inserting the SD card before turning the machine on. I don't know if that second part actually did anything, but it certainly didn't hurt as my machine is now back up and running!
    Again thank you for your video, you've saved me much frustration!

    Update for newer (4.2.7) boards:
    ** MOTHERBOARD ** At 4:49, in Configuration.h, you need to change: "#define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_CREALITY_V427" -- otherwise the stepper motors won't work at all and the auto-homing will quietly fail every time with an error message ("homing failed Printer Halted please reset"). Also, there is no specific target for boards version 4.2.2, so I suspect the correct motherboard target in that case is still "#define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_CREALITY_V4".
    Update March 2023: At minute 4:12, STM32F103RET6_creality is no longer available. It was renamed to STM32F103RE_creality, use that one instead.
    I HOPE THIS HELPS!

    I also have a Creality 4.2.2 board. Except it is used for a Ender 5 pro. Your tutorial sorted me from all the chaos of looking up complicated tutorials. In order to find your video, I had to type this search term:
    "creality board documentation 4.2.2"
    I had to stop searching for the commonalities, and start looking for the specifics. Thank you for this video.
    I may or may not Reply or update this comment to see if the information from this video worked.
    Finer detail for you not to worry about me:
    - I will be deviating from the tutorial to fit the Ender 5 pro.
    Things to take away for anyone seeing this:
    ## The motherboard is different than the Name that the 3d printer was given. Thus, open your unit up, and see what motherboard you have to determine what firmware to flash.
    # For anyone seeing the error:
    "
    You are using an old Configuration.h file, update it before building Marlin.
    "
    This means that you went to the configuration Repo "github.com/MarlinFirmware/Configurations/tree/2.0.5.3" Which is not the latest verson of 2.0.7.2.
    Instead, go to (github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin/tree/2.0.x/config That should Lead you to a proper version configuration.
    # Instead of trying STM32F103RET6_creality, which would be the default for the ender 3 pro,
    Try sanguino1284p for the Ender 5 pro
    The reason why sanguino1284p, is because normally in the arduino IDE, you would just go to tools -> Sanguino
    However, the environment needs to be changed to reflect that on platformio.ini
    default_envs = sanguino1284p
    Remove 'Speaker' and 'ARC_Support' to save space. I had barely enough room to fit it. (96.8%)
    .hex files will work too!
    It was a success! Horrah!
    6:25am CST
    It took about 2 hours from now to get it to work. I hope anyone who sees this helps.

    Error: Build environment 'STM32F103RET6_creality' is incompatible with BOARD_RAMPS_14_EFB. Use one of these: mega2560, mega1280
    Thanks for this video, it's the best one out there especially for noobies like me! I had the above error but figured it out and saw in the comments a few others having the same issue. I thought I should share what happened to me that helped. After rewatching your video, I realized my mistake. I moved the configuration files into the "Marlin-2.0x" folder, but I should have moved them to the "Marlin" Folder. It compiled after that.

      I read there is an easy way to check the driver: the card reader slot has a letter written with marker:
      C = HR4988
      E = A4988
      A = TMC2208
      B = TMC2209
      H = TMC2225

    Another thing you should add on the video is compiling with bootscreen and statscreen. files, to the info screen look the same as the original.
    drag that files with the configuration.h and other stuff, from another folder of ender 3 pro.

    Is there any chance you know the fan pin that controls the extruder fan? I'd like to only have it turn on once it gets above 50c

    For anyone doing this as of March 2021, 'Configuration.h': Line 1709 #define DISPLAY_CHARSET_HD44780 JAPANESE... Might want to reset that to WESTERN or CYRILLIC based on your native language...

    Thanks for the info here. I have unfortunately the new 4.2.2 with crappy loud drivers which I recognized afterwards and I bought the Silent board 1.1.5 which arrived just today. The board layouts aren't the same so its not the Plug'n'play method which is mentioned everywhere. Is it possible to replace the 4.2.2 with the Silent board and is there any tutorial out there since the also the labeling on both boards is different?

      Hi, yes, you can replace your new 4.2.2 board with the older 1.1.5. The installation is very simple. You can check our installation video here: th-cam.com/video/J8vdEDn59ZA/w-d-xo.html

    Parabéns pelo vídeo.
    Foi o único que conseguiu resolver o problema de atualização do firmware da minha Ender 3. Nos outros vídeos não sçao informado que a Ender 3 com a placa V4.2.2 teria que usar outro modelo de firmware para instalar na impressora.
    Muito obrigado pela explicação :D

    Will the "STM32F103RET6_creality" still work with an Ender 5? If not, do you know where I'd find that information?
