  • The Skoda Octavia vRS has long been a strong contender in the hot hatchback class thanks to its combination of performance, practicality and affordability relative to its rivals. In fact, CarGurus UK deputy editor Ivan Aistrop rates the mk2 Octavia vRS hatchback so highly that he decided to buy one as his daily driver. In this video he documents the car's pros and cons, explores how much it has cost to run, and explains how he updated the infotainment to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
    Read our full expert review of the Skoda Octavia mk2:

    Phenomenal car. Cheeky remap and what a difference of a car. I had the diesel CR version and then remapped from 170 to 220bhp and pulled like a train constantly. Fortunately I also had the sunroof in mine as well. Was easily my favourite car I have ever had, loved how it looked.

    Great review....I’ve just brought a 2008 Octavia 1.9tdi auto, it’s fab and only done 53000 miles. So comfy and the engine pulls well and really economical to run. Also didn’t break the bank as used a little of my savings. So much room and the boot is massive.

    I have one of these same year and everything and I literally couldn’t say anything better , it’s Been a blast , it’s thirsty but that tfsi always was , remapping and lowering this by 15mm and maybe some exhaust work really brings out the performance side of it , it’ll happily keep up if not beat newer gti’s All day long , brilliant value for money

    Yes, i do like honest reviews, specially after a bit of ownership. That costs of MOT and repairs, gives a hint how much can cost to keep the car in right shape, which most people in UK dont care about, which is sad. Cheers, take care.

    What a great video. I bought the Golf equivalent back in 2007 and cruise was a £220 factory option. However the VW dealership could retro-fit the exact same system for £150 which is bonkers, so that's what I did. Almost 100% certain you can do the same on a mk2 Octavia, not sure about the mk1. it's just a change of left hand steering stalk and re-coding the software.

    I bought one of these from new in 2006. Still got it. I got the cruise control added by a main dealer for £120. Unfortunately it’s got to go as a minor problem with the ECU which seems not to be fixable (engine management light on) makes it beyond economic repair. Annoying as it still drives perfectly.

  • @Chipchase780

    Excellent ‘real world’ video. I can relate to the cost of keeping an older car on the road. My 2012 Octavia 1.6 diesel estate, albeit younger than the featured car, has just cost me an eye watering £1,078 to have the front wish bones, dampers, associated bits plus it’s rear discs and pads replaced. It’s clocked up 108,000 miles so it was work that was due, and I bought it with 86,000 on the clock. Had the cam belt changed recently and cam shaft sensor for £500.
    But I have a car now that I believe will achieve 400,000 miles or thereabouts with good maintenance before it quits . It’ll probably be my retirement car.

    Odd ... the headlights in my Mk2, which only have cheap eBay bulbs, are extraordinarily good in my view - by far the best of the 15+ cars I've owned / driven. Really clear bright light that reaches a long way, making night driving a pleasure. My son bought some bulbs from a well known supermarket and they were hopeless - like candles. Maybe that's the problem? Or low alternator voltage? Or bulb "Lifetime Extension" set in location 19 of the body control module? Whatever, they can be really good, in my experience (far better than the ones in the Mk1).

    • @user-ev7el2ou7g
      @user-ev7el2ou7g ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, which bulbs did you go with please? And did you replace these with the halogen yellow bulbs or did your Octavia already have less, thanks.

  • @kamata93
    @kamata93 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The headlights are something VAG was struggling until the LED options came available. Skoda kinda is forgiven but when you are buying Audi A8, the bixenon headlights are rubbish. And you are correct, the Octavia II is quite noisy. They tried to improve it a bit in the facelift but ultimately, Octavia III was better built.
