    Got a pre-facelift petrol MK2 VRS this summer. Did new tyres, wheels, intake, exhaust and remap. Whole package less than £8k for 260bhp and a very comfortable (albeit not luxury) interior and big boot. Outstanding value. (Also COYR).

    Dad bought one of these new in 2010 was a great car. It had full leather which looks better than the half n half. Was fast and economical, I preferred the early shaped headlights made the front lower looking. You'll get a lot more stuff as standard with the skoda. Just try and get one that hasn't had the dieselgate fix.

    i drove both the 2.0 cr tdi and the 2.0 tfsi as found mainly in the pre-facelift, the petrol felt far more refined and kept the torque-y characteristics of the diesel for low rpm driving but given a bootful the tfsi has a much better top end that the diesel is missing, im not sure on the difference with fuel costs as i didn't get to use the diesel long term but the trip computer in the pterol regularly sees over 40mpg

    Honestly if you get a pre face lift you can get a very good deal. I've got an 06 tfsi with 80k on it, I'm the second owner with a full Skoda service history and it was 3k 6 months ago.

    It's cheap because the steering wheel is on your right.
    In Germany, which can sell cars all over the world, it keeps the price when the steering wheel is on the left side. And with the steering wheel on the right side they are all cheap, the Porsche 2024 can be cheap again because hardly anyone will buy it when the steering wheel is on the right side.

    Could never compare to an Audi S4, that's just ridiculous. Yes it is a great car, have had one and loved it and will probably have another one soon. If you looking at comparison then probably more a VW Golf GTD/GTI or Audi A4 2.0tdi 170bhp/2.0 tfsi or Seat Exeo tdi/tsi. The VW and Audi still hold a much higher premium over Skoda but at least the Skoda uses the same current (at the time) vw dash where as the Seat used outdated Audi dash.

    200k here on it’s sister car - Passat CR170. Original clutch/dmf, DPF, injectors/pumps, egr, turbo and I thrash it everyday.
    Warm it up, change the oil and they go on and on. Bargains. Engines not very tuneable compared to the PD’s but a stage 1 is decent, fast enough for a daily. Must go well in the Ibiza

    I had one of these. Mine was the Limited edition no.40/500 and the rarer TDI estate too. Was a comfy big barge and quite quick but even on BC racing coilovers, it felt big and not that fun on back roads compared to my current Golf R-line. Sold it for 3k as it needed a bit of cosmetic work and seen it for sale a couple times for more than I sold it for 😂

      The only sad part is is that this cr tdi is really expensive to tune over the stage 1 map, you need to swap the turbo and fuel pump and you are already looking at around 1 grand... Meanwhile the petrols can hold much more power on the stock turbo.

    I’m looking at these and 325D BMs at the moment. The Octavia’s do not make sense when you compare to a 325D. 170bhp is not enough to call itself a sporty car, the 325D has 204bhp out of the box and with a remap, will be 300bhp +. Price bracket is the same for a E90/E91/E92.

    • @rjturner010480
      @rjturner010480 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really the same tbh, a 3ltr engine in a 325d compared to a 2ltr in the vrs. 170bhp can and has easily been remapped to 220bhp which is impressive through a FWD car without any additional modifications

    • @waifuracer6516
      @waifuracer6516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing you are not considering is that the 325d will be much more expensive on insurance and roadtax... So the vrs is a good deal because it is pennies to keep running while the 325d even if it has 1 old lady owner and only driven on sundays to church will still be more no matter what.

    • @webdesignengineeringservic6515
      @webdesignengineeringservic6515 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's basically a Golf Gti engine. Mines mapped to 249bhp, above 4k it takes off but below 4k is pretty decent too. Fuel economy though, fill this one up twice as much as my previous vrs, which was the diesel. Just have to remind myself every now and then why I went for a petrol one 😁

    • @webdesignengineeringservic6515
      @webdesignengineeringservic6515 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jakeg9711 Depends on your circumstances and driving style,
      Petrol one (with £300 remap on a Rolling road) leaves the diesel standing but there is the millage you drive to consider, I get ~320 miles from a tank with the petrol one (and 37 - 40 MPG at 66 mph on a run to work on all dual carriageways) but the same journey in the diesel used to see 45 - 50 mpg and 540 miles per tank and that was at 70 mph.
      Petrol was 10p cheaper per litre when I brought the Petrol one but is now 1p less per litre :(
      When looking to replace my last one (diesel Vrs) I looked at three diesel's in my price range (well 2) and both were overpriced at dealers and not in great condition, and one just outside my price limit but 50k mileage and hoping to get a deal. The dealer would not budge from £8k by even £175 for the tax, it was showroom condition so couldn't blame him. Then as it was local and also 50k mileage went and had a look at the petrol one I brought, for £6.5k.
      To be honest I wish I'd stretched to the diesel one as fuel costs have probably made the difference in the costs now and the diesel would hold its price better.
      BUT the petrol one flys and that's bearing in mind I also have a 289bhp stripped out Cupra R track car too.... if worried about cost get a diesel, for fun get the GTI with a boot :)
