A thief can grab your property or your kid with an airtag in their backpack, then mark their current location as home or work and they will then get a notification that your airtag is covertly tracking them in your stolen property. @@Valibomba partially true. Even if the person being tracked doesn’t have an iPhone- the airtag will beep - but I think the beep only happens after 3 days
I was under the impression that an AirTag when separated from the owner's device, would notify nearby iPhones if the AirTag continues to remain around a stranger's iPhone to prevent unauthorized tracking. So for example, I leave an AirTag in an Uber, the driver's iPhone would notify them that there's an unauthorized AirTag 'tagging' along with them. Is that not the case?
I think it’s totally fine using it for a toddler, especially when in a busy location, such as a shopping mall, theme park, play centre, etc. Just slip in their pocket, and then you’ll have peace of mind when they try n wonder off.
If you have an iPhone 11 or newer it should be much better. If you have an older iPhone, it’ll be about the same, but with more chance to find your stuff if it’s near other people, and if nothing else, the fact that there’s no subscription fee

Think about it- if Apple claimed that AirTags are intended for lost kids, and a kid gets lost, they get sued. For millions possibly. So it makes sense for them to claim AirTags are not for this purpose, especially in our overly litigious society 🙄
There! This is what I REALLY wanted to know! So I guess that I CAN use it for tracking a pet, but that I should just understand the limitations. Gonna DO it!
For 30 dollars and the slight chance that I get a better direction to look for if he gets lost outside it’s worth it. In my area I just hope people have a phone nearby if he gets lost and I get a ping to help search.
A lot of people here don't realize that you can only get precision tracking if you have an iPhone 11 or 12 series phone because those come with UWB just like Air Tags do. If you have an iPhone XS or earlier model, you can't see how many feet/inches away your child or pet is from you.
Like you said, downside is it works on bluetooth, but I am considering maybe getting a couple for our cats. Even though they’re chipped (get your pets chipped people) they do go outside and it would give me a bit more piece of mind. Now to get a collar on them 😂🤣

I have the iOS beta software and it didn’t give me a notification when it was away from me. I put it with my car keys and when my brother drove my car, it didn’t give me a notification at all 😕
That’s an excellent question. I wish someone could answer that. Typicaly, I want to « find » my cat around my house and neighbors in the country. I know I’ll have to walk near my cat but when they hide you can’t see them. I just want to make sure he’s around :) So if range is less than 20 meters... a bit useless.
Great video, I was just wondering if this new Apple product will help with finding car at sporting event, concerts, or what about recovering a stolen car?
Yes absolutely, thats one of the best things about it. Someone with an Apple Device will definitely walk past your car if it gets stolen (including the thief), and with precise location once you’re in range you can find anything including your car down to the millimetre!
If your car is stolen with an AirTag in it, the AirTag will beep and also send a message to the thief's iPhone that there is an AirTag nearby. Unless you put the AirTag in a place in your car that can't easily be reached (which could then affect the strength of your signal), the thief can find your AirTag and get rid of it. OTOH, if the thief knows there is an AirTag in or under the car but can't reach it, that might create an incentive to abandon the stolen car.
I don't know why people would assume that an air tag would be anti theft device. It's clearly not. However, if placed in a pocket of a bag, or a purse, and the thief didn't know it was there, then more power to you. Living in a suburban area with a dog, and air tag on their collar may not be a bad idea.
Are you sure that there is no possibility that an AirTag cannot send its location without relying on Bluetooth and other iPhone devices? Without much relying on precision finding within the Bluetooth range, isn't it pointless to get one of these? For example, you live in the countryside with very few people who use iPhone devices? Some people don't take the precision finding a big deal, but the point is as least we would know its location on the map. Please, someone, clear these confusions.
I'm not sure if you'll know this question, but my dogs airtag beeps like for 10 secs straight and it happens atleast 6 times a day. Do you know why? Or does anyone know what that means? My dog gets scared from it and I think it hurts his ears🥺
Although I’m 11 I was planning on talking with my parents to get a air tag for my dog but I came to the sense that not only it would be hard to track but also they play a lot it may get broke or really dirty or something to happen to it like the dog chewing on it so nvm about my plan

No. You can’t find your dog or kid unless they are basically in the same room. It has no usable range. If your dog even leaves your yard, you’re screwed pretty quick. Someone steals your purse...? By the time you react the thief could be out of range. Lost mode is entirely dependent on having other Apple users - who FIND your item and then want to help you. Very disappointed.
Yes I’m getting one for my cat because he was lost for three days and he was next door garage, if he would had one on him I would had found him sooner.

Yes, that is the Case
I think it’s totally fine using it for a toddler, especially when in a busy location, such as a shopping mall, theme park, play centre, etc.
Just slip in their pocket, and then you’ll have peace of mind when they try n wonder off.
That wouldn’t work as it could easily fall out of the toddlers pocket
That’s great advise if you are in the countryside. For a city or connected towns this would be a great asset to have.
Absolutely using an AirPod for our dog. Thanks for the video.
Going to use it on my kids for when we go to amusement parks of some sort
That’s a great idea
I want to use it to track my cat. Already have a tile. Interested to see if it works better
If you have an iPhone 11 or newer it should be much better.
If you have an older iPhone, it’ll be about the same, but with more chance to find your stuff if it’s near other people, and if nothing else, the fact that there’s no subscription fee
What range does the tile work on? I'm wondering if I can see whereabouts my cat is if she's across the road or out the back for example?
So as far as pets and dog collars are the smart collars more reliable? With their own app and gps tracking, Sounds like it
knock on wood, but imagine a scenario where the small pet/kid is stuck somewhere and can't call for help INSIDE the house - I see nothing wrong with people wanting a little more security
I would find weird to put a tag ALL DAY and everyday on a kid, but in the big crowd situations it would be great to put an AirTag for these occasions.
Much rather have the airtag in my arsenal than no airtag and worrying about Apple’s liability with dog still missing for god sakes.
I understand what you're saying about the pets. But I'm going to go ahead and get them anyway for my dogs because they have gotten out of our yard at times. It'll be a little something anyway.
Does the “finder” have to have Blue Tooth turned on their phone to transmit to your phone
I will be tracking my dog!
I used to work for Verizon and a hunter would buy gizmo watches for his dogs attach them to their vests and he’d have gps and a way to tell them to come back without yelling look into it they have lte and you can listen to what the dogs listening to without making a call cuz they were meant for kids in case they were abducted
Could you address whether there is any physical danger to pets or children because of the Bluetooth or emf?
Could I track a parcel through the mail system?
Think about it- if Apple claimed that AirTags are intended for lost kids, and a kid gets lost, they get sued. For millions possibly. So it makes sense for them to claim AirTags are not for this purpose, especially in our overly litigious society 🙄
Can i use it for my cat because he leaves the house and to the street sometimes
Definitely getting one for my cat my grandson is coming to visit for the summer. I need one for him and dad who has dementia
There! This is what I REALLY wanted to know! So I guess that I CAN use it for tracking a pet, but that I should just understand the limitations. Gonna DO it!
Would an iPad with Bluetooth and 4/5G network report back AirTag location?
For 30 dollars and the slight chance that I get a better direction to look for if he gets lost outside it’s worth it. In my area I just hope people have a phone nearby if he gets lost and I get a ping to help search.
What about using it on my kids keys? if they lost the keys in school or on the way between home and school for example?
A lot of people here don't realize that you can only get precision tracking if you have an iPhone 11 or 12 series phone because those come with UWB just like Air Tags do.
If you have an iPhone XS or earlier model, you can't see how many feet/inches away your child or pet is from you.
What’s this precision thing with the arrow?
Does it only send location via someone else’s iPhone when the airtag is in Lost Mode?
The main thing I am going to use AirTags is for my Hanger and Airplane Key. All so for my Car Keys so I do have two on order.
Like you said, downside is it works on bluetooth, but I am considering maybe getting a couple for our cats. Even though they’re chipped (get your pets chipped people) they do go outside and it would give me a bit more piece of mind. Now to get a collar on them 😂🤣
How did it work out? I’m going to try this but I don’t think my cat will appreciate the collar part! Lol
When lost your pet, you will hope for any tiny information that can help you to find it, so yes I’ll use it for my pet.
Make sure you engrave it with your phone number and understand what it is and what it can and can't do. If you really cared about your pet, use a GPS tracker.
@@robertmiller7849 would love it if there was a GPS collar that wasn't too bulky to leave on my dog's collar, and didn't need to be recharged constantly. Airtag has it's limitations, but it's a passive solution you can just set and forget and is better than nothing.
Apple just needs to get with the program and make a GPS device. We currently use the Fi GPS collar for our dogs and it works great 👍!
Cheap Apple Watch with cellular?
What if I have to move away and I want to put an airtag on my cats transport carrier before the flight? Since my cat is to big and heavy she would travel as checked luggage. I think it could work in that case
Absolutely
Maybe I didn’t understand your question, but why would you track your cat if you know it’s in the carrier in the plane?
@@Valibomba I guess it would be to make sure my cat is actually on the plane and also follow her during a layover at the airport.
@@AndresVargas81 oh okay. I guess it would work but idk if the airplane could do interferences with the signal?.. 🤔
It would definitely work, I'll be putting them in my checked suitcases too, if they were to end up in a different city/country, all it takes is someone with an iPhone and I get an updated location, seems so handy!
My dogs name is Red Dog and he thinks he’s Red dog from the movie. Always jumping the fence and going on adventures (but he always comes back) he’s getting old, we’ve moved to a new location and I worry with him going blind and having hip issues that he may be at more of a risk of getting hurt so I’ll be using this on both Red Dog and Nova my blue heeler pup. Better than nothing right
I'm really interested to using this to track my pet tbh. (I've recently lost one of my dogs simply cause it ran out of house and never got back home and until now I am still worried)
But the potential problem is, I have more than one dogs, and I'm not surprised if they damage the collar (and then potentially the airbag.. or even swallow it) down the line when they're playing together etc.
Can the location be shared within a family account??
In a way, yes!
@@AppleInsider I’ve read that Family sharing is currently not supported by AirTags, is it true? My family has already Find My family sharing enabled and I wonder if we could track each other’s items like we are doing with the Apple devices? Thanks
@@Valibomba I don't think it's a feature at the moment, but I reckon they'll definitely add it. I want to track my cat so if the entire family could see that would be perfect
@@reuben-jamesgilbert1845 yeah same. Perhaps we’ll see announcements about that at WWDC
@@AppleInsider how in a way yes? Doesn’t seem you can! These are really no good for what I use them for after spending £140+ they don’t do family sharing nor can you use Siri to find them! Both of which you can on tile! Shame I got all four ingraved because I’d be sending them straight back!
Why can’t literally any company seem to be able to create a tracking device that actually tracks real time over long distances ?? I’ve heard of some very very expensive ones for dogs but people still say there’s a massive delay on the tracking feature and they end up just walking in circles trying to find their missing dog. It doesn’t seem like it should be this hard
In Denmark we are not allowed to let our cat roam outside our gardens. I don’t have a garden so my only option is to take her out in the wild for short trips.
I'm thinking of doing this, I've hated 4th of July and New Years when my dog will disappear for days.
I have the iOS beta software and it didn’t give me a notification when it was away from me. I put it with my car keys and when my brother drove my car, it didn’t give me a notification at all 😕
Thank you. Literally waiting on like 6-10 different channels to make this!
So you also can’t rely on it for anything if it’s taken out of Bluetooth area?????? What’s the point then?
My cat should stay in the house or garden but sometimes escapes to the neighbors. I would say that is in range of Bluetooth right?
That’s an excellent question. I wish someone could answer that. Typicaly, I want to « find » my cat around my house and neighbors in the country. I know I’ll have to walk near my cat but when they hide you can’t see them. I just want to make sure he’s around :) So if range is less than 20 meters... a bit useless.
Lol, I’m still buying a 4 pack to track my keys and 3 house cats...
Great video, I was just wondering if this new Apple product will help with finding car at sporting event, concerts, or what about recovering a stolen car?
Yea I was thinking the same, could you put one in your glovebox to easily locate your car in a car park? I think that would work
Yes absolutely, thats one of the best things about it.
So it works if I’m in LA
I don't know why people would assume that an air tag would be anti theft device. It's clearly not. However, if placed in a pocket of a bag, or a purse, and the thief didn't know it was there, then more power to you. Living in a suburban area with a dog, and air tag on their collar may not be a bad idea.
What about an air tag to keep in the car to keep your parking location? Would Bluetooth kick when I’m close enough?
You can set up a simple short cut to do this or if you got Apple car play it shows where you parked your car
Starting to think I don't actually need these, I don't lose things.
Famous last words 🤭
@@verttikoo2052 hahaha
I wish I that superpower.
Your "Our video gear" link is incorrect. It's kit.co not kit.com.
How close does an iPhone have to be to the airtag in order to send me my pets location?
I'm not sure if you'll know this question, but my dogs airtag beeps like for 10 secs straight and it happens atleast 6 times a day. Do you know why? Or does anyone know what that means? My dog gets scared from it and I think it hurts his ears🥺
Although I’m 11 I was planning on talking with my parents to get a air tag for my dog but I came to the sense that not only it would be hard to track but also they play a lot it may get broke or really dirty or something to happen to it like the dog chewing on it so nvm about my plan
I think it would be nice for young people to have or just people in general on them since sadly there are so many people disappearing and getting kidnapped these days hopefully Airtags 2 will have better range like 300 ft or more it is apple I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a slightly bigger version or just found a way to increase the range to like a mile that would be nice.
I thought the chip in iphone 11 & later worked separately to track .. & older phones rely on Bluetooth ?
They really need to make it so that it’s just like tracking your iPhone when your iPhone is lost. Someone has to come up with a solution for that
I am getting one for my dog. Lots of pets being stolen
My cats an outdoor cat and I wanna use airtag to track it’s location to see how far away from home she travels and comes back lol
exactly. that’s why i’ve decided to buy an airtag. I really hope it works
@@tydollasign5800 want to let me know how that works out?? i was having the exact same idea 😂
So, you're advising against using it to track kids because Apple don't want to make any claims that it could be used for that? I can understand why Apple advise against it but I can't understand why you advise against it. It's definitely better than nothing if your child gets lost.
