Well, nothing beats a GPS… Then again, if thieves put your stolen car in a garage or a warehouse, then the GPS will not work. Therefore, a combination of devices, including Bluetooth trackers, should be part of your line of defence.
About whether or not Apple would alert the thieves to the presence of a Apple Airtag or Apple-compatible Airtag, such as Eufy’s Apple-look-a-like tracker or Eufy’s Wallet tracker, the answer is a definite “YES”. However, you need to disable the speaker on such tracker and hid them well. If you have more than one in your car, then it means that the thieve is going to have to go on an “Easter egg” hunt to find them. It’s just another layer of protection for you.
My Ford F-150 was stolen last night. They disabled the onboard tracking system, but I had an Airtag hidden inside and was able to locate it for the police. I think the thieves discovered that there was an Airtag somewhere because they dumped my truck on a nearby street and left it. I did not know about the speaker removal and will be performing a bit of surgery on the Airtag, and probably hiding a second Airtag as soon as I get the truck back.
@@carswithsonduren Toronto. Vehicle thefts here have hit an all time high this past year. I don’t think they discovered that there was an AirTag in it. I’ve talked with the police and they say it is standard procedure for the organized rings to drop it somewhere nearby on a low traffic street in case it does have another hidden tracker in it, then come back for it after a day or two, figuring if it is still there then it is safe for them to take it.

@@ellzfromhellz6728 yes we all already know this. literally anyone who owns an iphone and airtag knows this. maybe if you used logic or common sense you'd understand that people put them in cars without the speaker in a well hidden spot so that while the thief may be notified they still cant find it so they'll give up and run off.
Phenomenal video! I bought a Range Rover in March and finally ordered my AirTag 3 days ago. It came in today, and I typed “AirTag Car” to have a sense of an idea of where to place it, and your video popped up!!! Super simple instructions… speaker came right out. THANK YOU!!!!!!
Awesome man! Glad the video is helpful and welcome to the channel. Not sure where you live, but definitely good that you were doing this because of the increasing auto theft and crime.
It notifies the thief that they are being tracked and they can simply disable it. Sorry 🤷🏻♂️ Go google it they explain it pretty good. It sucks because I just learned this right after I put one in my car a couple of months ago.
I put mine in the old first aid kit, between the bandage packs that sits inside compartment in the trunk of my sedan. Pretty close to the outside but still inside. Updates the location regularly. But definitely need to de-chime it.
Great video. I had a friend who was coming back from California halling other vehicles on his trailer back here to Texas and he stopped in Arizona to rest an found a air tag on one of his vehicles from someone else who was following him. Criminals also uses them. Always use caution but great video though
Great lesson for everybody to read here that definitely criminals can use it to their advantage. Thanks for sharing your story and thanks for the compliments, welcome to the channel :)
I’m going to do this for my Focus RS, never thought about the speaker so, thanks! I do think that one should be able to disable the speaker via settings tho.
I'm also using AirTag in my car but there is one downside which you didn't mention... if thief is using Iphone after some time he will get notification that someones AT is following him ;) Of course... he might leave the car if this happens and actually this would best outcome.
Just to clarify an AirTag is NOT an anti theft device. That would be something like a car alarm, steering lock or RFID case for your keys. If a potential thief doesn’t know an AirTag is inside your car it can’t deter them and so isn’t anti theft.

Ok, yes, I agree with comments concerning multiple ATs in a vehicle. Further, remove the speakers! Another excellent suggestion, I already employ! If possible, when hiding 2 ATs, place them in adjacent hidden areas. This should to confuse any wannabe car thief into thinking only one exists!!! Normally, they would open it and remove the battery and think they are in the clear.
The most impressive part of your video is when I saw that you had a proper manual transmission, and a gated shifter at that, good for you. So much more engaging, involving and fun for the driver. I have a tip for everyone so you don't get your car stolen in the first place. I put a motion sensor from my home alarm system in the car, if someone ever breaks into my car, the home alarm will go off. Just picked it a 2019 manual ND2 Miata last week. Soooooo much fun to drive. SaveTheManuals.
I got one of these to catch my son going to places he wasn’t supposed to go. What a waste of effing and money! The guy in the video says “In case the thief opens his iPhone and discovers this device and makes it chime……”. 🙄 please give me a break. The AirTag all but tells a person that there’s an AirTag in their vehicle or it gives them the message that says that the AirTag is with them. My kid didn’t figure out that there was an AirTag around him… The stupid AirTag told him. Don’t buy an AirTag to spy on someone. Everybody has an iPhone these days. As soon as my son’s iPhone was in range of this thing, he got a notification that there was an AirTag near him. Even if you remove the chime it won’t help. Don’t waste your money. I bought a GPS device online on Amazon for $24.99. Not only was it a better GPS locator it also allowed me to hear any conversation going on in my son’s vehicle. What a waste of money. There’s a flaw with these. My son was able to figure out where it was and then he was able to disable it. Apple should be Ashamed of this shitty technology.
Awesome video brother…my ZL1 was stolen on 11/8/24…no air tags. Just factory alarm. I don’t think it was for joy ride. They bypassed my alarm and started it within seconds. I am actually gonna buy air tags for my family for Xmas. No status as to my car as of today. I Appreciate your patience and detail re this video.
I purchased a little case with a screw top from Amazon. It is magnetic and sticks to my Audi cars metalwork. This keeps the AirTag clean and safe and looks like it belongs to the car
Great video! I wouldn't say it is a deterrent as much as it is an aid to find the tag. If the criminal is not aware of the tag, it can't be a deterrent. But the point is well made. Thanks for showing how to remove the speaker!!
A cool feature would be that multiple phones can track a tag meaning let’s say you get robbed and they take your phone away, you can have a phone at home or someone else that’s connected to it, track it. That is assuming your phone gets stolen. I have a few things that can help reduce Car robbery -Modify the start up. There’s a secret trick I did so when I start my car up, you need to hold a certain button. Without this you can’t start the car. -modify the wheel lug nuts, make the two front wheel have different wheel lock than the back but make it the same color. -AirPod tag works great. -Steering wheel lock can work but it’s not the best method. It just slows thieves. -Tint the windows, this help hide visibility from the inside. (I have a skeleton figure and have it laying in the back.) so it looks like someone is sleeping there lol 😂 Standard even better ! Most importantly don’t risk your life over a car !!!!!!!!
Great video! Anyone have any idea how AirTags are affected by the inside heat of a parked car during the summer and also the freezing cold during the winter?
Lately there are thieves scanning bluetooth from vehicles so they'll know if there's a laptop, phone, ipad, etc. inside. So I'm not sure but does the Airtag send out a BT signal as well?
Sorry if this is a stupid question but, why do you have to remove the speaker? If you don’t press play sound then the car thief won’t hear but you can track it

Do i understand this correctly . After you re hack the thief can not find the air tag by sound anymore . But he can still see that there is an air tag by "find " and can see how far the air tag is away ? Looking at you re video at 5:32 .From what I understood I can locate an air tag by sound and by find which tells me how far away it is . And apparently the thif can use "sound " and "find. " too to find it ??? Or can a thif only use the sound option to find the air tag of the car owner ? And not the find option ?
I looked after my friend’s dog for three weeks whilst she was overseas. I attached an airtag to her collar. It survived being dragged through the water bowl and long grass. I always forget which way the battery cover turns.
Can you see where an air tag has been? Does the map only show you where it is….? If it was to die would the app show you on a map what time the tag was moving snd stopping and where? Like a history of its movements like a real (expensive) tracker…. Great vid btw
If the car is moving far from you would you actually be able to locate it even though it works when your phone is near by or how does it actually work I’m confused
Awesome video! I actually took my Range Rover back after the crooks stole it from my house.... And funny enough Peel Regional Police did not even bother showing up to the scene for almost 1 hour and 30 mins after I told them that I found the car. So I just drove home and sold my car as I could no longer deal with it being stolen.
Omg, you are so lucky! I lost my Lexus 2 months ago and the Peel Police weren't able to open the shipping container for me at CPKC Railway without a stupid warrant. Literally had to watch the whole GPS tracking journey from my Airtag and now it's in Turkey lol

QUESTION would this work on a semi truck and trailer? I’m thinking one for the tractor and one for the trailer… we own a small trucking company. Two years ago we had a trailer stolen. In the past we have had a couple instances where a driver would hide the truck from us. My son had suggested this recently to keep on our key fobs. My husband is in his 70’s and his memory issues are getting worse. He’s lost 2 sets of keys in 10 days. One set he put on top of my car and drove off. It’s a miracle our grandson found them on the side of the road over 2 miles away. What are your thoughts on using for these 2 applications? The trucks and trailers travel several states each week. Thanks so much!
If you're going to take this apart with a razor knife, put the tag on the table and pry away from your other hand. The way he did it will result in stabbing your opposite hand.
My friend in the UK had some stuff stolen and the air tag said exactly where it was. Greater Manchester Police refused to follow it up. Excuses given were a bit odd. Something about the object being moved to different locations. All of this relies on the authorities doing their jobs too.
Essex Police same. Mate of mine had his car stolen and could see where it was on his iPhone, Police said they were short staffed and couldn't follow up. So he recovered the car himself. UK Police are a waste of space. If he'd called to report someone posting a racist comment on a forum, three Police cars would be at his house in a heartbeat.
Same in Surrey, my neighbours 2019 Toyota 4x4 stolen before midnight…they call the police and they came like 2-3 hours later….best part was when I was helping friend with a small sofa which he phoned the council and they told him to put it on the the side for their people to collect….one of the nossey neighbour call police as apparently were fly tipping just before midday…within half an hour 2 police car and a van turned up…even hear one of the police saying on the radio to cancel other police cars coming😂….told police who’s on the right mind would fly tipped during the day where people about😅
Pro tip I found. I use these but not for my car. When you remove the 'speaker' the airtags still make a smaller sound as the part you remove is not actually a speaker but something to amplify the sound. Put it to your ear and press play sound and you can still hear it. To stop it from making any noise at all you need to cut the gold coil that is under the speaker. I just snip out a tiny section to make sure the coil is completely disconnected and the airtags are now 100% silent.
That’s why you remove the speaker. They may get notified that they are being tracked, but without a speaker, they will have no idea where it’s at. I see it as an advantage too. If they are notified that they are being tracked, they will more than likely dump the vehicle. However, many people have tested out the tracking notification and more often than not, they are never notified.
@@bruceskousen5451 So just to clarify this, if I place an AirTag without speakers inside the car, the tag WOULD NOT pop-up a message on their iPhone that there is an AirTag accompanying/following them?
@@kuruption1983 no, it could still notify someone in the car with a pop-up message. However, the person would never be able to get the AirTag to emit a sound because the speaker has been removed, making it nearly impossible to locate it in the car. The thief would already be paranoid and now that he/she has been notified of being tracked, they would abandon the car immediately for fear of being caught.
The problem with air tags is that a person is notified that one is close to them so they can find and disable it. Even if your put several of them on a car the thief will be notified they are there. You need a tracking device that doesn't broadcast to everyone and everything around it. There are much better options for tracking your car.
What are the better options? I thought other ones I would have had to pay a subscription. If I was going to steal a car I would probably look for airtags before I started the theft.
@@nlluke5207you can hide it but someone put one in my car before a girl and your iPhone notifies you shows you how far and how long it’s been following you on a map and it gives you an option to play the speaker so you find it and also gives you the option to disable it instantly from your iphone even if it don’t belong to you it will work for a while however once they get that notification they can instantly disable it

Question. If thieves won’t be able to track the Apple air tag, then what if they reversed the process to your car to track you without you knowing your being tracked? Is this possible?
im reading about air tags right now and it says on apple that they have NO LOCATIONAL CAPABILITIES whatsoever....this is only if you are within 30 feet of your own stuff...
It works by being in close proximity to ANY iphone. It could be in a parking lot 50 miles away from you, but if someone walks near it with an iphone in their pocket, the location updates over the network and you can see it on your phone.
Too bad that this became useless the moment Apple did two things: Find any tags in close range with the standard 'find my' app. And you can even activate a setting making an immediate warning on your phone that an airtag is tracking you. It can still be handy because it will take a load of time before they find it in your vehicle.. makes it less attractive to steal.

I didn't have to damage one of the AirTags I bought directly from Apple, as it never made a sound from new. They sent me a replacement, but made me pay full price for it, so I kept the old one. It is useful for the car, as this video shows. A new theft trend is to scan for a bluetooth signal around cars. If one is detected, the thief will break a window looking for a laptop hidden in the trunk or elsewhere in the car, so this may happen if you use AirTags as a tracking device.
That’s strange. If you’re looking for a laptop, computer or iPad, then you can use a lithium detector. There is no need to use a Bluetooth detector (which are not very good, BTW) to detect the presence of an AirTag which would not tell you a whole lot, except that there is an AirTag in the car… I have three AirTag-like devices in my own car, and no computer.
Majority of times thieves find these air tag and throw them out of the window. Also, AirTags don’t update live, they update every few minutes which can be sometimes up to 9 minutes.

Hi. I just came across your video. My wife and I got some Airtags to put on our cars on the advice of some friends of ours. However, I do have one question that I hope you can clarify for me. While I have heard from people saying Airtags are a good way to track your car, I have also seen that they use short-range Bluetooth to communicate with your phone. If this is the case, then how can I use an Airtag to track my care, if, say, it were stolen? It wouldn't be near my phone to use Bluetooth. Thanks for any explanation...And I apologize if I am missing something obvious here.
You can only track it, if it is near an iPhone. Anyones I phone. If it were in the middle of a desert, you wouldn't know where it was. All you will get is the last location where it was near an iPhone. Any iPhone.
If I understand it correctly, AirTags have an anti-stalking measures that will warn you if you unintentionally come into possession of a new tag, but a similarly great way to warn a thief that the car they just stole is being tracked, but it won’t notify them right away. It will only notify them once they reach what is their “home.” This location of “home” is determined by their Address Book. Hopefully the thief will not take it to their home but drop it off at a designated location where it can be tracked.
I believe this is a good idea for stolen 'large' items that are normally 'out in the open and on display' and are easy to spot, ie car etc. (as long as the car doesn't go under a respray and plate change!). Also, shame you can't put this in your luggage if and when it gets lost (or solen!). But that would cause havoc trying to get through airport security.
Thanks for your comment. So just to clarify, 2 questions: So, when you went through security did 'you' bring it to securitys attention that it was in your luggage? Or was it them/scanner that found it and let you through? Just that a friend was told to remove theirs from their hand luggage . @@mmgortonct

@rezamj282 After 20 minutes riding in the vehicle, Apple's "anti-stalking" measures are intended to alert someone that they are being 'followed' by an AirTag.

I’d openn the car badge/emblem/logo and stick under there or at the coolest part in an engine
Why take the speaker out
The tip of a tweezer (one side only) also works, besides a miniature X-Acto knife.
I put mine in the old first aid kit, between the bandage packs that sits inside compartment in the trunk of my sedan. Pretty close to the outside but still inside. Updates the location regularly. But definitely need to de-chime it.

True but even this notification is finicky and doesn’t come up consistently.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s now possible to detect third-party AirTags with precise location through the U1 chip compatible with the new iPhones.

Agreed with you thank you and welcome to the channel!
How far can the tags be tracked?
A cool feature would be that multiple phones can track a tag meaning let’s say you get robbed and they take your phone away, you can have a phone at home or someone else that’s connected to it, track it. That is assuming your phone gets stolen. I have a few things that can help reduce
Car robbery
-Modify the start up.
(I have a skeleton figure and have it laying in the back.) so it looks like someone is sleeping there lol 😂
Standard even better !
Most importantly don’t risk your life over a car !!!!!!!!

Yes it would work!
Why would your driver hide a truck from you ?? just curious I am ......get rid of that driver is all I can say
If you're going to take this apart with a razor knife, put the tag on the table and pry away from your other hand. The way he did it will result in stabbing your opposite hand.
I just thought that lol
My friend in the UK had some stuff stolen and the air tag said exactly where it was. Greater Manchester Police refused to follow it up. Excuses given were a bit odd. Something about the object being moved to different locations. All of this relies on the authorities doing their jobs too.
Crazy dude :(
Essex Police same.
Now the theif knows where the air tag would be lol
Yeah but there are so many places to hide this small item inside or even outside the vehicle and would take hours to find this bug.

which app is for airtag to work with andriod?
Doesn't apple airtag notify another iPhone user if an unknown tag is traveling with them? What if the thieves have an iPhone too?
That’s why you remove the speaker. They may get notified that they are being tracked, but without a speaker, they will have no idea where it’s at. I see it as an advantage too. If they are notified that they are being tracked, they will more than likely dump the vehicle. However, many people have tested out the tracking notification and more often than not, they are never notified.
What Bruce said is exactly correct! More often than not they are not even notified and they will have to proactively check.
@@bruceskousen5451This will not work as now other people can locate the AirTags with precise finding
The problem with air tags is that a person is notified that one is close to them so they can find and disable it. Even if your put several of them on a car the thief will be notified they are there. You need a tracking device that doesn't broadcast to everyone and everything around it. There are much better options for tracking your car.

That’s strange. If you’re looking for a laptop, computer or iPad, then you can use a lithium detector. @@carswithsonduren Got it. Thanks!
You can only track it, if it is near an iPhone. Anyones I phone. If it were in the middle of a desert, you wouldn't know where it was. All you will get is the last location where it was near an iPhone. Any iPhone.
Ima put 4 on my corvette 😂😂😂
Great video but how far can someone track AirTag?
If I understand it correctly, AirTags have an anti-stalking measures that will warn you if you unintentionally come into possession of a new tag, but a similarly great way to warn a thief that the car they just stole is being tracked, but it won’t notify them right away. It will only notify them once they reach what is their “home.” This location of “home” is determined by their Address Book. Hopefully the thief will not take it to their home but drop it off at a designated location where it can be tracked.
I would not want to bet a 150k car on a hopeful scenario, which they already know about it, very likely.
Question: does the thief bluetooth have to be on for it to detect that an Airtag is following them?
I think yes. @@joshdax2
@@joshdax2 yes - so if your stealing cars turn off bluetooth -
@@SNieX0it will still ping off other people’s phones.
Hasn't your Audi got Engine anti-theft device immobiliser? How they gonna steal your car if thye haven't got your keys?
Still lots of ways thieves can bypass this and steal your car.
You can put it in your luggage...carry on or checked.
Thanks for your comment. So just to clarify, 2 questions:
So, when you went through security did 'you' bring it to securitys attention that it was in your luggage?
Or was it them/scanner that found it and let you through?
Just that a friend was told to remove theirs from their hand luggage . @@mmgortonct
@@jcs3330 I flew with three air tags recently - one inside a checked back and two on carry ons. No issues at all and I didn't need to let anyone know.
@@jcs3330 I just flew from New Zealand to Australia and got a call from my sister (who had lent me an extra carry on bag)that she had accidently left her tag in the bag and she got a message telling her it was now in Australia !
.Neither of us did knew it was there and there until she got the message and there were issues going through customs at NZL or Aust :)
if someone is traveling and an airtag that is not theirs is following them, if the original owner of the tag isnt around, it will send an alert to your phone. even on android.
Hi,does the AirTags needed a purchased apps to your Iphone or not?Pls reply and Thanks for the video
No app purchase required!
@@carswithsonduren thnx a lot
Removing the speaker doesn’t really accomplish a whole lot when your phone shows a great big arrow pointing to where the AirTag is.
The precision location only works for the owner of the AirTag FYI. Not for the crook or someone else looking for it.
@@carswithsonduren good to know, thanks
@@carswithsondurenWrong!!!!
If the thief has an iPhone then they will be notified on their phone that they are being tracked. Then all they have to do is disable it. I have one and put it in my car. Then my wife drove to work with it and it popped up on her screen. A simple google will validate what I’m saying. I’m super bummed about this because I wasted $30. It’s still hidden in my car. I can only hope that if it gets stolen that the loser doesn’t have any iOS devices. It pops up on all of their products.
@@carswithsondurenthey could take your car and phone. This only work when you park your car and you are not around.
Absolutely true
Had 3 in my car. 2 of them led us to the right AREA of the car… it didn’t give an exact location… but it did help the police locate my stolen car within two hours of it being stolen. One tag pinged a block away from where the car was found. iPhone 14
Hey buddy do you really think that all viewers here are good guys? You’re kidding right?
Great video but I have one question! Do iPhones that pick up the air tags signal if stolen need to have their Bluetooth on or will it pick up the air tags signal without the Bluetooth on?
same question and what if they dont have internet at the moment
Great Info, apple should provide a sound mute option and not discoverable mode by other apple users mode in the software.
Yeh, that would make it much easier, to track and stalk people 😉 🙄
question: if thiefs have an iphone wont they get notified like "there js an apple airtag following you"; i get those types of notifications when im with a friend and they have their airpods and it will tell me another set of airpods has been following me for X amount of time or whatever
There’s only one problem. The thief’s iPhone will alert them that they are being tracked.
True but even that doesn’t work consistently.
And the thief can locate the AirTag, too... 🤔
It’s not easy finding an AirTag 😂
@rezamj282 After 20 minutes riding in the vehicle, Apple's "anti-stalking" measures are intended to alert someone that they are being 'followed' by an AirTag. That means they'd know one is nearby (in the car), though they'd have to tear things apart to locate it. Could be awkward for people w/iPhones merely riding along as your guest.
But bc there’s no speaker. They can’t find where it is.
Does it not give you the exact location of the tag or only the arrow and dot?
