There have been a ton of comments saying that AirTags are reliant on other iPhones to track accurately. Yes that is true. I’d like to point out that Destiny (the beautiful lady that had my Dog with her) had her iPhone with her as well when doing BOTH tests. I’d also like to point out that Brooklyn Bridge Park is a heavy traffic area with people. So I’d assume there were a lot of other iPhones in the general area as well. I’m not entirely sure what went wrong in the 2nd test. Which is why I assumed the heat may have been a factor. But a “lack of an iPhone” is definitely not the reason for the failure in my second test. Appreciate y’all ✌🏾
@@ddames oh okay, Just watched this video "AirTag Stalking Warning Test - Alert when followed by unknown AirTag“ a swedish guy really testing it, and finding out how it works, you should watch it :)
Great video - I have a tag in my Everyday Carry and I think the moral of the story is for $30 when something happens like someone walks off with your bag (putting it nicely) or your puppy goes missing - would you want something that improves your chances to locate them? I say yes every time. I like the words at the end about false sense of security because that is so true
I have a Samsung SmartTag and it's really not precise, my cat just got rescued from a 111ft cliff (2 firefighter trucks lol), i could locate him and he couldn't get down. But it took a while and only when I was close enough and could make it ring and hear it. Was wondering if an AirTag would be more precise...
Great video thanks. I’ve been debating about getting one to put on our dogs. I think the reason it didn’t work out in the open field is that it relies on Nearfield Bluetooth and other people that are broadcasting on Bluetooth to help locate. In the city you’re running into a lot more Bluetooth fields/broadcasts then it would be out in the park. Just a thought.
My AirTags are utterly useless. Always says “poor signal try moving to another location.” And it’s right in front of me. It’s the worst thing a product can be: unreliable. Nice video well done!
The Airtag can be somewhat useful as a dog tracker in urban areas where there are other iOS devices nearby. However, in rural areas or places with unstable cellular signals, it may not be suitable. You could try the Aorkuler dog tracker, which is similar to the Airtag but offers a much longer tracking range.
Apply says not to use them for pets. It’s not reliable especially outside of 30 ft. It’s to track stationary object that aren’t moving. But I still hear people using them for pets and the city is well mapped out and I head other phones pick up the device and it gets sent to the cloud allow you to find it outside of 3o ft. I don’t know how true that is or isn’t. I just know apple says it’s not a reliable source for pet finding. If I walk away from my iPad or leave it in the car and my boyfriend drives off to come back later after shopping, my iPad sends a message to my phone that my iPad has been left behind and then on the maps I can see exactly where my boyfriend is driving because my iPad is on the seat in the car with him. It’ll tell me he’s 3 miles away and show him ridding along the highway or streets! I can also press alert to make the iPad sound off. I’m guessing if it was stolen and I was close to it or lost in the dark in tall grass, I can hear it as well as see it on the map how close and it’s the same if I have my iPad and my cell was dropped or I forgot it at home but think I left it in a store. Find my iPad will let me no, no it’s at home. It’s a great service apple has. They used to have the Bump app or option where you could bump your iPhone to another and exchange pictures and music. It was popular in the beginning until you realize you are getting or sending pics you don’t want. And music, if you bought music, they don’t want you sharing it with others where they now don’t have to buy the music. It’s like limewire and that’s why that was pulled. But anyway. I though these air tags worked similar to how iPads and iPhones find each other but I dint think it’s as reliable for finding pets long distances away that are moving around through parks, backyards, wooded areas etc.
That’s weird but I guess it’s better than having nothing. I also wanna say this, December I took a seasonal job and I parked at a sketchy location everyday so I bought an AirTag for my car. Every time I checked the location showed up and updated every 5-10 minutes(this was in a parking lot and I would leave that area)
I've been wondering the same thing! We live in a very remote area. Lots of homes but LOTS of trees. And I don't want to have to subscribe to a monthly service either. What did you end up with?
My hubby just mentioned getting a tag for our new pup coming soon, immediatly came to youtube & yours was 1st video I saw & clicked.... THANK YOU!!!! And that pup of yours is cute as heck! 😘
I feel like it failed at park because of not many iPhones around to pick up the signal. But in the city on the streets there's lots of devices to help pick up the location. Not because there's no streets. If the park was packed where she was walking then that would be a different story but that I don't know
I’ve realized you would need to completely tear one (or three) apart (someone on here did it) in order to hack it, but I’d love to have mine tell people that my dog is diabetic. He needs his shots every 12 hours and he can’t eat high carb foods. :(
Thanks for the vid, a friend just bought airtags to try track his dog in the rural countryside, it'll never work, he needs a gps tracker, will share too
They seem great for finding things may have misplaced around the house, but to trust the goodwill of mankind is entirely different thing- I’m sure Japan is loving them.
I think the reason you had a better time in the streets then in the park is because the airbag is dependent on how many iPhones are around. I’m sure there are far more iPhones closer together in the streets then in park where people are more spread out. Just my opinion.
Definitely a possibility for sure and a good point. Since Destiny had an iPhone while she had my dog I thought something would at least be anchoring the navigation. Still a great tracker nevertheless

Honestly, Brooklyn borough park doesn’t have great reception to begin with. Most places that are heavily populated. Like Coney Island, World Trade Center, and Times Square where you have horrible resection would be an issue.
The information in this video is not correct. The ability to track an AirTag isn't dependent on being in a city area where there are streets or signs, and it's also not based on temperature. What it is dependent on is the AirTags proximity to an iPhone, with good cell service. If the AirTag is in a field or remote location and there are no iPhones near it, you're not going to see any location data in the Find My app. The same is true if the AirTag IS near an iPhone, but that phone doesn't have good cell service. That may have been why your park experiment went the way it did, the phones in the area didn't have good service, which is something you mentioned in the video.
Wasn’t saying that my theories(street signs and temperature) on why the second test didn’t go well were 100% concrete. But I felt it was worth mentioning it.
