Get the largest bath towel you can find. Soak the towel soaking wet with distilled vinegar. Place the soaking wet vinegar towel on the fender. Go home for the night. Come back in the next morning and remove the towel. Rinse the fender with a solution of baking soda and water to neutralize the acid from the vinegar. This should remove nearly all the rust.
Thank you ill try that, we use to do that with paint stripper. We would put the stripper on the pannel and lay plastic wrap over and wait an hour then peel off the plastic wrap and the paint would come with it!!!!
I use 10% white Vinegar to remove rust from parts by soaking them in a filled container for 2-3 days, works excellent. Never have tried using a towel soaked in it and covered with plastic, good tip.
Nice. I discovered those stripper discs last year. They work great on rust and equally well on skin. 😢 Definitely need to wear gloves while using. Glad to see you going over the little details. Thanks man!
Wipe that fender down with OSPHO , a rust neutralizer. It chemically converts iron oxide to iron phosphate. We used it offshore, sadly water conditions. I've used it on 4 tractor repaint over 25 years and no bubble rust came back under the paint. I use it after sand blasting or sanding to kill any rust that's left. Just spray it on or Wipe it on, let it sit over night, do a light sand, and prime it. Paint sticks to this really well. Nothing worse than doing a nice paint job and a year later you see rust bubbling up.
Coraseal I find works better then Ospho but both are oxidation converters that change the property of rust into a non oxidation compound, coraseal has a sealing property that works better then ospho. I used both products extensively since 2001 when I started as a deckhand on NY harbor tugboats, I’ve been a captain for 12 years and always use both products keeping up on rust prevention.
Just started my new channel on TH-cam customizing a Toyota FJ40 into a FJ45 pickup. I appreciate your expertise and the products you use to get the rust and old paint off as I have a lot of body panels to do, especially like the stripper disks, will definitely be buying a slug of those.
Thank you Adrian. I have an old Dodge brothers cowl that looks about like that fender inside and out. I appreciate that tips. I’ll be doing a mail call in the next day or so and I’m including your channel in it. God bless 👍
Tarheel state! Im a Carolina kid myself. Ive got to repair the top of my 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis its rusted because the paint is peeling off. Can i use CLR? Or just hand sand with blocks? Before i prime it. 👍
Awesome NC 4 Life if it's peeling you need to strip it down to bare metal the epoxy prime or etch prime then high build prime, sand then paint for the best result. Hope this helps!!!
I got a little mini bike frame with some small rust under the spray paint i used. Will a wire wheel and a new coat of spray paint be good or should i use a rust primer to help? Thanks in advance
I take a old towel. Soak it with white vinegar. Lay it on top of the fender or whatever. Sometimes throw a piece of plastic wrap over it and let it sit overnight. You will be amazed.Smitty
Those disks are amazing how well they work on most everything. I will say, you absolutely need gloves on because as you use those disks, little pieces wear off and will sting your hands pretty well if you don't wear gloves. And those disks do wear out quicker than other flapper types. But they do a better job too...
The ones I buy are from classic truck stores, next week im gonna show how to make a patch from scratch and weld it in if you want to check it out. It will be the same process for your sprinter van!!!!
On fenders like that I like using muratic acid wear gloves glasses face mask spray it on with a spay bottle scrub with a brush be care not to get it on you then rinse with water and then mix some baking soda water and rinse with that to kill the acid rinse again with water will take all rust off do this outside only
Soak some towels in vinegar. Lay the out on the panels. Let them sit. Keep them soaked with vinegar for about 24 hrs. Remove towels. Hand scrub with wire wheel or red scotch brite. You’re welcome.

That's how I de-rusted my woodstove.
Ten times quicker if you add common house salt.

vinegar or phosphoric acid is good rust killer as a safe bet before paint, not too hard to do. Awsome to watch thanks
Thanks for the info!!!

Sorry for the delay, you could use a etch primer on The bare metal then paint it. It should hold up pretty good

I may try that over what ive done, thanks for the tip!!!
Rust removal begins at 8:45
You're welcome.
You can sand it with 80 grit and DA Sander or a Random Orbital Sander. Works Pretty Good.
I like the 80 grit, I use a ton
I'm using 40 grit and it more polishes the rust rather than removing all. Might try one of those disks.
Work outside, I love it. Kentucky
What grit are you useing
tiger hair and a paint brush there is hope don’t give up now you are almost done

I agree and if that thing hits your hand it hurts bad lol, dont ask how I know!!
Where do you buy patch panels? I need one for a Sprinter van.

Way to polish the rust. You didn't remove it.
Video says remove surface rust and then he mentions sandblasting. Did you watch whole video or know how to read
Soak some towels in vinegar.
Lay the out on the panels.
Let them sit.
Keep them soaked with vinegar for about 24 hrs.
Remove towels. Hand scrub with wire wheel or red scotch brite.
You’re welcome.
I've used that method, it works great!!
The scrub wheel is to aggressive, can take of the metal and make it look wavy. Use a wire brush wheel instead
The scrub wheel I used didn't remove any material that I could tell, but those flapper sanding wheels definitely will!!

Thanks for watching!!!
How would 100-110 hurt anything? A car sitting in the summer sun get hotter.
It's rough on me lol
The patina look sucks, it's laziness, it's a cop out! It's doing the job half assed !!!
It's harder than you think to pull it off. I know what it takes to make show car paint job, ive been doing it for 20 years, to much stress!!!
It's so fast and easy this video is 22 mins long
You can go fast as you want, I have to explain stuff lol
You talk too much!
Get on with the video , dang!
Thanks for watching!
I left you an email
patina = lazy .
Not how I do it lol, I paint 6 figure hotrods and muscle cars , Trying to pull off an un noticeable fake patina is like a fun challenge lil
OK, what's the trick ???? Just another useless video !!!!
