Ospho is good stuff, been using it for years. But it has limitations. On heavy rust, you have to apply it multiple times as the acid doesn’t reach below the absolute top layer. You can experiment on a heavy rusted metal. Come back the next day and scratch across the metal, the rust will still be underneath. The box store stuff works ok but it is a little weaker than Ospho. I always neutralize with water before primer.
Yeah I noticed that when I applied it on that camaro frame and it needed more. I think id you wire wheel it or DA sand with 80 grit then apply it works better! Thanks for the info!!!!!
Thanks brotha, they say it can react with certin primers but the rattle can was fine, but I cleaned the residue off with lacquer thinner and danded it clean so I wouldnt have trouble lol!!
AWESOME!! I'm from Hickory and live in Sneads Ferry now. NEW SUB!! Getting ready to start work on a 72 Grand Prix that I have to replace the roof panel. The vinyl top hid rust for a long, long time and now we got big holes. I might resort to cut and butt welding depending on how bad it is in places. Replacing the whole roof panel has got me a little nervous if I'm being honest. Good channel, can't believe I haven't come across it before now. Gonna get me some of that Rust Killa!!
Hey man Thanks!!!! Replacing a whole roof is not as bad as you think if you can get a new one!!! Ill drop a link to a 68 camaro we tore down to the vin number lol th-cam.com/video/U2_J9kF7Zfs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=piJH4O0ql0rqUbKx
I used it, works great. You need to remove a lot before using though. You cant just shoot the metal prep on there. I wire wheel the majority off or us a 36 grit flap on the grinder, then when it is mostly gone it spray it and scrub with a green pad until it looks good, when the deep down micro shit turns black you know you are good to rinse with fresh water for 5 min and then I finish it up with a towel and a hair dryer or flame.
Concrete Prep & Etch at Home Depot. I use it all the time, works great. Some others have a higher concentration of phosphoric acid from what I hear though.
I have a 73 C-10 that I've been working on. It's rusty I may try that stuff for that. I'm in Rutherford county in North Carolina. What part of North Carolina are you in?
I looked up the MSDS . It is phosphoric acid and chromium. The phosphoric acid is what converts the rust. The chromium becomes chromium phosphate. Which protects the metal and is used for paint prep. In my opinion this should work better than what I’ve been using ( concrete prep) , it’s phosphoric acid and alcohol.
Had to smile seeing the Rust Killer Ospho I worked in the Marine Industry for YEARS The only thing missing from the video was a needle gun. Air powered and would knock the Heavy chunks of rust off. Had made a Joke I guess about the NEEDLE Gun.. The needle gun is my friend it is the only one I own. It will rattle your hands off. BUt it works. The deal with Ospho is that we didn't have time to do a prep job on a surface Walls Steps Etc. It worked but we were under attack from sea spray every day. But I'm sure it will do a swell Job on land rust. I 'm here for my roof on my 150 06. It has scales under the paint which I now have a series of small holes and some larger I thought was fixed the first time around when doing the fix a couple years ago. So I'm back again YTing the project.
Of you have some bright trim that has dulled up.take the acid to eat off the zinc plating, then polish the hard aluminum to a bright shiny finish....your wecome...lol.Is that rust o slum gonna be compatible with other paints ?
Hahaha its the only brand that I've not had a ton of trouble out of. I use to love krylon but it's bit me before!! I've 2k cleared over rustoleum with sucess!!
Have a 1984 Porsche 911 on a lift in a heavy mil portable garage. But the leak and humid is present. So…undercarriage surface rust. Is your solution a good option for this? Will it turn Porche’s yellow chromate screws, bolts, fittings, etc dark or black? It would look like an undercoat, I suppose. (In Chicago).
I read that on the bottle, thats why I pretty much sanded it off. Also I washed it down pretty good. I think I put that in the video but I cant remember lol thanks for the tips!!!! The rustoleum see to hold on pretty good
@@ACDesignsGarage Just used this on my CJ3a frame after grinding off the rust to bare metal…. I decided to pressure wash it afterwards and scrub it with a red scotchbrite before putting on my primer coat. No issues of adhering 👍
@@ACDesignsGarage it’s a giant swamp with bird sized mosquitoes lol it’s beautiful country close to being heaven with hardly any crime! Unlike here in south Mississippi with New Orleans crime….

Not trying to be mean but people don't have time to listen to jibber jabber for minutes on end about how your gonna kill this rust. Get on with what you want to do. Here's the job, here's the product, here's how you do it. Simple, but thanks for tryin.
Yeah there's a lot of options however you did you and very nice job repairing it have fixed money myself is there a prone to rust Rustoleum is a very good product personally would have used a metal etching primer for direct to metal but each his own
Perhaps he talks more than some like lol I guess there’s is a mute button but really he just telling his thinking and game plan like we all do when we do things and how that plan is working or most likely what’s not working so maybe others can change their plan before they start. More he experiments less we have to.

Ospho works great on the outdoor equipment when preparing for paint, I haven't tried it on fenders yet, but I have used it on floor pans.
I need to try it on my car trailer!!

That stuff is great! I used it a couple years ago on the drip rail of my dads 1963 GMC.
Yes it is ,thanks for watching!!!!
Have you tried Klean Strip Metal Prep? It's sold in the big box stores for around $20 gal., works the same from what I can tell.
No I haven't thanks for the tip!!!!

It may be a good fit, not sure about the chromate, if you had a spare one I'd try it first if you Wan to keep that look!!!
Pure and simple "Phosphoric Acid"
You may want to experiment with different primers over Ospho. Certain primers dont adhere well to it.

I need to go there sometime!!!
I routinely use klean strip metal prep. Looks the same. What is the difference between them? Its less than $18 /gallon at HD
Not sure I'd love to try it!!!

Take the phosphoric acid one step further by applying some sort of plastic over the ragss to keep it from evaporating.
Thanks for the tip, we use to do paint stripper like that!!!
Thanks for sharing a great video
Thank you for watching

Something about a T-shirt daka derr datook da derr do damn dur 😅
Looks like it works. 🤔👍
Works great!!!!
The reason why you would use metal prep instead of that green stuff is could you go over it with a Scotch-Brite and it gets the job done much faster!
Ok thanks!!!
