Cath's instincts and knowledge, and care for quilts is just amazing as well. it's great that you two got together!-Sally from MO-USA
I am astounded by all of the beautiful quilts! Growing up I helped my mom put quilts in the frame. She would quilt for others as a source of income AND some for gifts. She has done a wide range of quilts including a traditional log cabin. I mostly do small projects and panels but after seeing all these creations I am finding myself wanting to step out of the boat so to speak and make a quilt.BUT, what will it be?? I won't know til it comes to me. I want to say that this is one of my favorites to watch again. Reminds me of the times when my mom and I would go through her quilt tops and have a look at all her hard work. Thank you for sharing and good health to you. ❤
I wanted to thank Martha for her video on her allotment. I'd had been thinking about getting one for a while and the video made me decide to actually go trough with it. And yesterday I got one! I'm a compleet novice when it comes to growing my own crops, so its a bit daunting. But i'm so looking forward to getting stuck in. Thank you! :D
Gardening is as fun as sewing! There are tons of good videos on YT, Hew Richards is in the UK, and there is one fellow I watch who does allotment gardening, probably just search allotment gardening. Good luck, every plant is an opportunity to learn, whether a great success or not. Green beans are a really good choice for a beginner, choose a bush bean, not a climber for small spaces.
I am gobsmacked! I hope I used that word correctly! 🤣 What a wonderful memory for your mum’s family! Each one of them is gorgeous! I have Victorian crazy quilts in progress, and now I am inspired to do even more! I’m sure your mum is smiling down on you!
My Mama had just given away her 100th quilt when she died. She was a master quilter and I could never compete. Her choice of colors and designs was unparalleled. This episode was very meaningful to me and I thank you.
Makes me almost want to restart the paper pieced project I started when I was in my late teens ( or maybe I’ll wait and do it in 18 months when I’m 60!]
As a complete novice to the quilting world, I was surprised how much the quilting patterns augmented the quilt tops. What Cath is doing here is truly an art. It’s clear that you work well together and had similar visions for the work to be done. The fact that your outfits matched (or at least appeared to do so on my iPad) was a fun representation of that. I’m sure it wasn’t planned. Just a happy coincidence.
For those of us who are quilters, what a reminder that our quilts will outlive us and go on to offer comfort for years to come. Thank you for sharing with us, Kate!
What a difference the quilting makes to the quilts. They are really beautiful individually. Im glad I wont have to make a choice as to which one. Really hope the family get the ones you think they will like.
Wow that quilting by Cath is just stunning. I love the idea that you can reverse the quilt and you have another equally stunning quilt. Thank you so much for sharing Kate. Cath you are an extraordinary long arm quilter, have fun with your new toy. Guida
You must keep the square full of color one! But the log cabin is beautiful also!!! Your family is so fortunate to have you finish these for them...how lovely!! I have scads of crocheted doilies all over my home from my mom but no quilts....I love watching you hand make yours and I'm thinking a machine one so we will see!!!! Love all your videos.
All are JUST fabulous! Both of you are so very Talented ! In our family, great, great , great , grandmother, aunts and mother all quilted by hand giving me a 1st hand appreciation. Thank you for these beautiful quilts - don't forget to put one of grandmas on Agnes bed. Happy holidays
Kate, since you have so many to finish at once, have you thought about machine stitching the binding? The flange binding is very beautiful and easy to fabricate and makes such a wonderful finished edge to your quilt.
Cath did a wonderful job choosing the quilting designs! Kate if I were your family member I would want the string quilt because you and your Mum worked on it. I have a quilt from each of my Grandmothers and I cherish them both, and your family will love these too. Happy Binding!
Kath, thank you for sharing your work space and lovely quilting designs. Kate is so pleased with the quilting designs on her mother's quilts. I'm glad that you enjoyed doing that for her. Take care and I'm hoping that you can get through all of the Christmas quilting in time to rest a bit before the BIG day! Kate, it was good to see how pleased you were with the quilting on your Mother's quilts. I'm sure that your family will appreciate having these rememberances of their grandmother. Take care!
I think that YOU should have the first choice of your Mum's quilts! You are the daughter, and you did all the work in the finishing of these quilts . . . and your Mum means more to you than to anyone else!
Absolutely beautiful. Your mum's piecing and Cath's quilting are gorgeous. Kate, you have certainly carried on your mum's talent. She would be so proud of you and Cath's quilting. If I didn't live in the U.S. I would certainly have Cath quilt my quilts.😊
I would offer to help bind your Mum’s quilts but I am sure you will enjoy doing it and treasure every minute!! Hand binding is my favorite part of the entire quilting process. They were all beautiful. Thank you for sharing.❤️🪡🧵❤️
Oh they are all so lovely. Cath is very talented and friendly. I wish her the best with her new machine. Thank you Kate. I can’t wait to see who picks what quilt. Blessings.💗💗💗💗
Kate, wouldn’t it be so much fun to pass the quilts along the lime green sofa and let all of us help with the binding? It happens to be one of my favorite tasks, binding. Really. I can’t imagine I’m the only one. The quilts are so beautiful. Your family will surely cherish them. ❤️
The joy of sharing around the world through the internet! I love your channel! My husband is an artist and photographer, he has cancer and is struggling to recover from the effects of chemo, especially neuropathy. For many months he has been unable to make glass beads. I showed him your video with Phillippa and he is, as I write this, in his studio learning to fuse glass. Cath picked out the most perfect patterns for each quilt and the perfect threads as well. You have to be tickled pink in the end results of your mom's quilts. She is for sure good at what she does and each quilt has just the right amount of stitching in just the right places.
Kate your mum's quilts are just beautiful!!! Thank you for taking us along with you!!!!Good to see you up and going out more Kate look after yourself! Hugs Liz x
Enjoyed this so much! The entire process has been wonderful to watch. My mother was a quilter right up until the time she passed at 86. She left me a dozen lap quilt sized tops to quilt as well as 4 very large ones. All was done by hand and I hope to finish them by hand as well. You inspire me, Kate. Thanks!
Such a wonderful video Kate & Cath love the idea of long arm quilting. I have a lot of tops that need quilting so maybe I need to think about this idea thank you ladies xxx
Hello from Central Scotland, I have just finished my first quilt yesterday with the binding on and what a difference it makes putting the binding on. I made this double bed disappearing 9 patch for my 6 yr old grandson, who has autism like his uncle and great uncle before him, as i wanted him to be able to get a granny hug from me whenever he needed it. I made it with his favourite characters on the material of Toy Story which he will get at Christmas. Seeing your mum's work at such a vintage age, it is absolutely wonderful and when bound i hope that each person that chooses one will cherish their hug from a special lady. Please show us the finished quilts although i know that binding them by hand will take quite a wee while. Thank you for sharing such a special lady's handiwork with us. Sending crafty hugs from Norah, Glenochil Village, Central Scotland
Wow! She got those quilts done VERY quickly! Very impressive. I also love her choice of quilting patterns. Every one matched the quilt top designs perfectly. 😊😊 Great job, Cath!

While all of her quilts are very lovely works of art, my favorite is the dark squares (shown 2nd and also at the end.) Strikingly gorgeous! It reminds me of one my Mother made but I don't know who ended up with it. What a wonderful way to honor her by finishing what she started.
I love how you can see the quilting so well on the plain backs! I wish I lived near you - I love binding, it would be my dream to sit and chat and sew with you.
