The Top 5 Foods to Lose Belly Fat (NO BULLSH*T!)

  • What to eat to lose belly fat? Lemon water, cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar, chia seeds, and kombucha. These are the top 5 foods google said I should eat to lose belly fat. While this will lead to the most uncomfortable dump of your life, these won’t do anything for belly fat loss. Let’s cut through the BS and look at the real science behind the foods that can actually help you lose belly fat and with weight loss overall. There’s 5 of them worth talking about.
    Click below if you want someone to take care of all the guesswork for you and create a training and diet plan full of foods you actually enjoy: builtwithscience.com/bws-free...

    Number 1: “low calorie density foods”. These contain a ton of weight and volume for relatively few calories. People who eat these foods consume fewer calories everyday but end up eating more actual food than those who don’t eat these foods. So what are the best low calorie density foods for belly fat loss? Basically, most fruits, vegetables, and low-fat foods classify as a low calorie density food. But that doesn’t mean you should completely restrict yourself from high calorie density foods. You just want to eat less of them and add more low to moderate calorie density foods into your diet. For example, during breakfast, instead of having high sugar granola, go for a whole grain cereal with fruit.
    Number 2. Depending on the type of food you eat, your body will burn a certain amount of calories just to digest that food. This is what’s known as the thermic effect of food and is part of what makes our next food, lean proteins, so effective for belly fat loss. The importance of having enough protein when losing fat goes far beyond this. It’s the most important food to help you maintain or even build more muscle as you lose fat. This will not only help you look better once you get lean enough to lose your belly fat, but it also seems to correlate well with preventing fat regain after your diet is over. But, it’s important you prioritize lean proteins that deliver significantly more protein for fewer calories. Egg whites, shrimp, protein powder, low-fat greek yogurt, extra lean ground beef, chicken breast, turkey, tofu, and white fish are all great examples. You can still have the fattier protein sources in moderation, but by eating mostly leaner proteins, you’ll not only consume fewer calories, but you can also potentially swap those saved “fat” calories for something else.
    Food number 3: omega-6 PUFA. You need about 20-30% of your calories to come from fats to support your general health and hormones. But the specific types of fat you eat matter when it comes to belly fat. To potentially avoid building up the dangerous fat in the belly and organs, try to moderate the amount of daily fats you get from saturated sources such as bacon, cheese, butter, cream, and fatty meats like pork and beef. Instead, try to have more of your fats come from foods rich in omega-6 PUFA’s such as nuts, seeds, and seed oils, as well as omega-3 PUFA’s which have been shown to have other health benefits and can be found in sources such as salmon, tuna and flaxseed.
    The 4th food on our list that’ll help you lose belly fat is a controversial one and was put to the test in a 2015 study, where researchers took 300 overweight individuals and had them start the same weight loss program. Only difference was one group was assigned to drink an additional 24oz of water everyday whereas the other group had to drink that same amount but with a non-nutritive sweetener. The sugar free group not only experienced significantly greater weight loss, but they were also better able to keep that weight off for good. Why? It's possible that in the water group, limiting access to sweet beverages may have promoted their desire to satisfy their cravings from other sources like candy and desserts.
    Number 5. So far I’ve given you a lot of great food options to lose fat. But let’s be honest, some of the foods I mentioned won’t appeal to you. Sure zucchini is a low calorie dense food and yes egg whites are a great lean protein source, but if you don’t enjoy those foods then don’t force yourself to eat them. The key to making your diet stick is to eat your favorite foods. Personally, I love wraps, burritos, and shawarmas so I make one every day. But I’ll incorporate what I taught you earlier about what to eat to lose belly fat by using a low calorie wrap or tortilla, adding plenty of veggies, using a lean protein source, and adding fats or calorie dense condiments in moderation. So pick a handful of your favorite foods from each of the categories we went through, add a couple of your favorite treats to have every now and then, and that’s pretty much your diet. It’s as simple as that.

    There seems to be quite a bit of confusion and pushback in the comments about "seed oils" and "artificial sweeteners". My goal with this channel is to inform you with the best available evidence while considering the strength of the evidence. So while there is some valid mechanistic speculation, the human evidence we have points toward PUFAs (including Omega-6 which are found in seed oils) being neutral to positive for most health outcomes particularly when replacing saturated fat (as noted in the two studies covered in the video).
    As for the concerns of negative health effects from sugar-free drinks, again the most high quality data we have says otherwise: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30602577/ . There are some unknowns with certain artificial sweeteners, but overall the most recent human research we have points to them being safe, and as mentioned in the video, helpful for weight loss purposes.
    Ultimately I respect each of your decisions as to what you decide to eat, and I get how confusing/overwhelming getting nutrition info from a bunch of different sources/influencers can be, but realize that research is always evolving and changing. I try my best to stay on top of the latest evidence, and sometimes this contradicts what I used to believe. So be open to changing your thoughts/beliefs based on new evidence, that's the only way to grow and that's what this channel is all about.
    Anyways, I hope you found the video useful. Here's all the links to the studies mentioned in the video:

      The pushback about artificial sweeteners is not about their effect on lowering the net caloric intake for those who would rather go for a sugary drink. This is logically sound, but the effects of artificial sweeteners on gut microbiome, and cardiometabolic health are not yet realized, and we only just started to study gut microbiome seriously in the last decade. Even scientists are prone to confirmation bias, which is why we have a peer review process. Most reviews on NNS suggest that the studies are incomplete and need more research to support any kind of claim. It is kind of surprising that there are still products marketed as healthy, even though the studies in favor and against it are non-conclusive. I would take NNSs with a huge bucket of salt.

      Seed oils are some of the worst foods you can possibly eat. Omega 6 out of balance wtih Omega 3 is also not a good thing. From personal experience diet soda causes sugar craving especially on an empty stomach. Most people I see drinking diet soda on a regular basis are overweight. I have learned a lot from a lot of your videos but this one makes some pretty shocking statements.. I think you need some more research. The literature on seed oils is everywhere on how bad they are for you.

    Here are some reasons why water is better than diet soda:
    Hydration: Water is the best fluid for staying hydrated. It's essential for almost every function in your body, from helping organs work properly to maintaining your body's temperature. While diet sodas are mostly water, they also contain other ingredients that don't contribute to your body's hydration needs in the same way.
    No additives: Water doesn't contain additives like artificial sweeteners, colorings, or preservatives. these additives may have potential health concerns.
    Appetite regulation: There's some evidence suggesting that artificial sweeteners may interfere with your body's natural ability to regulate calorie intake based on the sweetness of foods. In other words, regularly consuming foods and drinks with artificial sweeteners might make you crave more sweet and high-calorie foods, potentially leading to overeating and weight gain in the long term.
    Oral health: While diet sodas don't contain sugar, they are acidic. Frequent consumption can contribute to dental erosion.
    Bone health: Some studies suggest a correlation between phosphoric acid, a common ingredient in many sodas, and lower bone density.
    Overall health: Regular water consumption can aid digestion, prevent constipation, and help the body flush out toxins. The benefits of drinking water far outweigh those of diet soda.

      The "oral health" and "bone health" arguments are spot on. 👍 Those two claims are probably the most uncontroversial when it comes to artificial sweeteners. Much more than "appetite regulation" which has been studied for decades now without any conclusive results. Taken together the effect of sweeteners to appetite is either weak or non-existent.
      But you might want to think again about the hydration and toxin part. Diet soda is still more than 99% water and toxins aren't "flushed out" by water. All that talk about toxins is mostly esoterics anyway.

    Hey man, Great video, as someone who was consuming a large amount of soda or ice tea full of sugar, about 3 months ago I stopped consuming any processed sugars. At first it was difficult because I stopped all sugar cold turkey, so I was low on energy. But then to stop the shakes and low energy, I started to eat more fruits/veges like bananas, apple, blueberries, carrots, celerie etc.
    Now it has gotten to a point that if I have a sip of coke or a bite of chocolate, it is too sweet for me and I actually feel unwell, I have also replaced the caffeine that I get from coke with black coffee from ground coffee beans.
    I sit around and wonder, why do we eat all these processed sugar when nature just provides healthy just as sweet alternatives.
    Anyway thanks for the video. Subscribed.

    I think, eating sweet foods can lead to sugar cravings and can often lead to consuming more calories than necessary. This can be avoided by limiting the intake of added sugar and opting for natural sources of sugar, like fruits, which can provide the necessary nutrients and energy without leading to unnecessary cravings. I lost 35 pounds last year. I achieved this by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, avoiding sugary drinks, and being mindful of my overall calorie intake. I found that cutting out sugary drinks was one of the easiest ways to reduce my calorie intake without feeling deprived.

    The sugar free drinks is SO TRUE. I started drinking Coca Cola Zero a few months back and I noticed I don't crave sweets anymore. Combining this with regular exercice and eating some protein bars, and I can proudly say I am building more muscle instead of fat. Not quite losing the fat so much I dropped around 1-2kg but I gained muscle instead

      Cancer from aspartame doesnt worry you? All mentioned aspartame metabolites are toxic to the brain, aspartame is a multipotential carcinogen, even at a daily dose of 20 mg/kg of body weight, which is much lower than the official acceptable daily intake. People use it as a pesticide today becuase of how effective it is as a neuropoison. Much like the history of sugar, flouride, and other neurotoxins being granted approval....it wasnt done with your best interests at heart. I may sound crazy but look into the history of these things.
      Read into "THE ASPARTAME CONTROVERSY OF 1981 The Hidden Truth" by VirginiaTech undergraduate historical review....
      "Although numerous studies were conducted documenting negative findings concerning the effects of aspartame, the sweetener remains legal, partially due to the political power of companies who manufacture it. In 1981, Ronald Reagan, with help from members of his transition team, including the CEO of G. D. Searle, Donald Rumsfeld, appointed Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes Jr. as the new FDA commissioner. Just weeks later, Rumsfeld submitted a reevaluation of aspartame and Hayes, ignoring the recommendations of several doctors, approved the substance for human consumption."
      Every rat in study grew massive tumors. When you realize that in ther 1970's neurological illness was 1 in 25,000 and today it is 1 of every 3. By 2025 it is reported it will be 1 every 2. I have concerns that it is our food that is poisoning us.

    This is great advice that i wish i had known sooner. Calorie restriction + eating filling foods (makes it much easier to sit at a lower daily calorie count) was by far the most potent combination for me (270 back under 200 now). I learned this the hard way since you just can't afford to spend your precious calories on empty sugary junk, doritos, or whatever, when heavily restricting.
    Not sure why this message isn't pushed harder. People seem to think that eating healthy is just eating the right foods, when it is also eating the right amounts of them.

    I think the switch to diet sodas keeping cravings away has to do with the carbonation of the soda combined with the sweetness like you said. I think the carbonation creates a sense of fullness in the stomach and the sweetness hits those cravings. I drink sparkling water and it has a similar effect maybe not as effective due to the reduced sweetness but it can be more beneficial to overall health. Aspartame and other artificial zero calorie sweeteners are not know to be the best thing for the body. That being said I’m all for diet sodas if it reduces people’s regular soda consumption. Just my two cents here.

    • @ghostflame9211
      @ghostflame9211 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      As far as I’m concerned (I’m not a nutritionist or dietician, so take from that what you will), any alternative is better for you than sugar. Even aspartame, which has been proven to cause cancer (albeit only if you regularly consume ungodly amounts), I would argue is still better for your overall health.
      Reason being is i did an experiment in college where we boiled a pot of coke and a separate pot of Diet Coke all the way down. What we found left was a clear pot in one and black sludge in the other. The black sludge was the sugar from the regular Coke. Never again lol.
      Does that mean I completely avoid sugar? Of course not; my birthday is coming up so you bet your ass I’m gorging on a BJs pizookie. But as sucralose just tastes sweeter with less of it, you’ll never convince me it’s worse for me than sugar.

    • @asciblue
      @asciblue ปีที่แล้ว +5

      my opinion of sucralose is low, likely because I consumed a ton of it in the past cause I hate plain water. Side effects included brain fog and some digestive issues. I had stopped for about 6 months then picked it up again without issue but severely limited intake of it during that time. There is some research suggesting sucralose helps the body store fat too, so I'd wager while it's used in nearly every supplement on the market the reason people stay lean is the exercise. Your mileage may vary.

    • @sucraloss
      @sucraloss ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s different levels for them. Added sugar is more or less the worst while natural low calorie sweeteners like pure stevia or pure monk fruit extract are the better sweeteners.
      Sugar alcohols are fine but don’t go overboard, erythritol generally is the best. But it is a high FODMAP sweetener so it can make you gassy or have an upset stomach.
      Allulose is comparable to erythritol, maybe a little better but still could give you gas/stomach pain.
      I’ve been using a bunch of different ones in my ninja creami and I’ve had the best results with pure monk fruit powder or stevia. NOT cut with erythritol because my gut does not like sugar alcohol. If you can eat it then you can go for the sugar alcohol or rare sugar like Allulose.
      Not a doctor but this has been my experience. If you really want to be super safe just go for monk fruit extract or stevia. But it’s worth seeing how you handle sugar alcohol and Allulose.
      Small amounts of aspartame, sucralose are okay just don’t go nuts. So Diet Coke is probably a no-go, but a packet of Splenda is no biggie.

What I read was the body thinks it’s getting sugar and secretes grellin in anticipation but when it doesn’t receive the sugar it expected it causes you to crave sugar even more creating sugar cravings. Anyways I don’t think it cause any major weight gain in moderation but I do notice overweight people do tend to drink diet drinks with little benefit

    • @KingDoug
      @KingDoug ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plenty of formerly-overweight people drink diet drinks too. If 10 overweight people replaced soft drinks with diet soft drinks, and 9 of them lost weight but 1 didn't, that 1 person who is still overweight doesn't negate the 9 that did lose weight. And that's assuming they're even trying to lose weight - sometimes people make a conscious choice to consume the calories they're "saving" through food instead.

    Hey Jeremy. When talking about saturated vs unsaturated fats I noticed you did not include milk on the saturated fats. I read about milk before as I know it has quite a bunch of saturated fats but found some studies saying that somehow in milk it is beneficial for us. What is your opinion on milk as a fat source?

    • @weichonggan9258
      @weichonggan9258 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Milk mainly contains saturated fat but usually at a low concentration around 4%.
      That means 100g of milk would yield around 4g of fat.
      This is why to make butter or cheese, a lot of milk is needed to produce sufficient fat for the product.
      The fat in milk is the same as butter just at a very low concentration.
      Reccomended saturated fat intake is ~10% of calories.
      So for example if you eat 2000 calories a day, that equates to around 22g of saturated fat = 550ml/18.6 oz of milk.
      Thats quite hefty amount so i think you'd be aite.

      I mean seed oils are pure fat so aren't great for you, but there's no evidence they're worse for you than any other kind of fat. There's also no evidence that artificial sweeteners used today cause cancer or whatever, while there's plenty of evidence that sugar does.

    • @anyonereally
      @anyonereally ปีที่แล้ว +9

      some seed oils are bad for one of two reasons: either they take seed oil as a base product and modify it so much it's harmful (look the history of canola oil) or they are not harmful UNLESS they reach certain temperatures (which can be too low for certain targeted uses).
      Artificial sweeteners are bad as well. See it this way, our body processes sugars in the form of glucose which is regulated by insulin. However, none of these artificial sweeteners can be regulated by insulin because they are not glucose, so they increase blood sugar and can lead to diabetes or Insulin resistance.

  • @Roel93
    @Roel93 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Yeah I'm still staying away from seed oils. 😏 But I agree with you about the artificial sweeteners. People demonize them because they don't know what's going to happen long term but short term there is still no evidence that they do harm so I keep enjoying my occasional soda and energy drink. Water is still king though and should be the bulk of your liquids. If not for weightloss, do it for your teeth.
