    Just bought my first Mini Cooper S 3-door hardtop with manual transmission two weeks ago. Can't find anything I hate so far. First sporty car like this I have ever owned, at age 60. Kind of like learning how to drive again. I had a friend who races take me out for a basic lesson. I don't have your need for speed, but I am enjoying your videos. You really have a joy for driving. Subscribed. Maybe some videos for newbies like me in the future? I just want to get the most enjoyment out of the car, while keeping things somewhat safe and sane. Thanks and greetings from Northern California.

    to be honest we bought our Roadster in May '22 after seeing your youtube films. Loving it ever since. Came in complete JCW bodykit but meanwhile we did the dechroming and further exterior adaptations. Love the car . Great piece of machinery.

    Nothing's perfect Peter. Passenger seat belt on my coupe does the same so I pull it across the seat. Don't have any issues with "play" in the seat. As an ex Motor trade guy I would say it's probably wear on the latch mechanism- dealer or good car upholsterer should be able to tell pretty easily. Tailgate heavy? Wow be glad your's isn't a coupe !!
    Roof handle & windows? Totally agree they could have done something better. I actually prefer the window switches on the dash. My F56 door switches drive me nuts !!
    All of that said, carry on loving her for what she is. You know it makes you smile 😃.
    All the best

    I have a 2012 R58 JCW with black stripes, I'll share my 5 things but yes I love the car no matter what too.
    - I hate how far back the seatbelts are (was able to fix that by installing Front Seat Belt Holder Extension Guides from AliExpress thankfully)
    - Absolutely hate how the window will drop the instant you open your door. It makes the door feel like its falling off the hinge (All BMW's do it, it feels horrible)
    - No coolant temp gauge or any gauge that shares the slightest information about your sports car like turbo boost etc (luckily I have a OBD2 P15 Head-up Display also from AliExpress)
    - I hate that theres no space saver rim, runflats are horrible
    - I fidget a lot in my seat, it's the most uncomfortable seat Ive been in if in it for long periods of time. I love how it hugs you, but the seat is rather stiff and not spongy.

  • @Sorayan13
    @Sorayan13 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    R56 mini JCW here, absolutely adore it. I have the same seat issue on both my front seats.
    About the temp gauges... If you have a gps you can have gauges installed for engine temp, or so they say at my local mini dealer. As I don't have a gps I can't tell for sure... Pleasant videos to watch, keep up the good work!

    Fully automatic roof (without the manual handle) closed windows. With this partly manual roof the windows have to drop to allow space for the roof hinges. Window switches are in the middle as the classic Mini had all toggle switches in the centre console, so with electric windows they kept all these grouped.

Agree with most of your quibbles, but maybe push the dealer a bit to sort out your seat movement, ours doesn't do that, so it doesn't seem to be a design flaw. Happy motoring!

    look like your having so much fun driving your car. I am considering buying my first Mini Cooper S (2014 or 2015 ). But as a researcher for info before i purchase anything, I can find a good long term review of the reliability of the newer Mini Cooper S for those years (2014-2015).. They all seemed to bash the car for leaks, suspension failure, etc.. But I they aren't reliable reviews in my opinion, just bad experiences which can happen with any car.

    About the oil temperature, do you find oil comes up to temp about the same as water temp? My car has a water temp gauge but no oil temp..It makes sense to go easy until the car is fully warmed up.I find my car gets to operating temp in between 5 and 10 minutes of driving. How important do you think this is for ordinary, every day, non performance cars? I suppose you do not rev match either until the car is fully warmed up. Nice review of your likes and dislikes of Ruby Roadster. Cheers.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got no temperature gauges in this car so generally just guess when she is warm. It's only a small engine so I normally wait about 5 minutes before pushing on :-)

  • @GeorgeToft
    @GeorgeToft 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    #1 - ok.
    #2 - add an OBD2 Bluetooth and an app to read temp.
    #3 - it's your car.
    #4 - user error and unmanaged expectations.
    #5 - replace the struts. Takes 20 minutes.

    I am thinking of getting a JCW coupe in the next month or so
    I have a couple of questions if you have the answers great
    Have you driven the latest JCW (I know not a coupe)with the 2 litre engine? If so is there much difference?
    Have you had many probs?
    Any new hates since this was made?
    Weird about the windows!

      Hi Lee
      Yes I have driven the F series 2 litre JCW. I own the F54 JCW Clubman and have spent many hours in the hatch. Whilst both cars have a Mini feel the F series car are just that little bit bigger and feel more grown up. The Roadster and Coupe are actually more engaging and fun to drive.
      I had to work hard to come up with 5 things I don’t like about the car. I love it to bits. It know looks very different and is running a Stage 2 map with 270hp. There is a play list on my channel charting all the work I did to it. It is a car I will never sell 👍

    Just bought my wife a 2015 mini roadster S convertible for her birthday. Has only 22k miles on it, single owner. Question, do you still own yours and have you had any major issues with the engine or transmission? Was trying to find out if the roadster has the same engine and drive train as a standard mini s. Since it was discontinued, just scares me about parts availability in the future for repairs. Enjoy your videos

Im unable to resolve this issue or find anyone with the same issue and now BMW wants $3,000 to fix... a fucking wing. Speaking of no temperature gauge...I hate that fact that I have older, cheaper cars that all have a gauge that tells me what the temperature is 'Outside"...while my Mini does not. Huh? And why does my R56 have a super large speedometer in the center of the dash; totally inconvenient and possibly dangerous at high speeds; so my only real option is a postage stamp speedo in the lower center of the tachometer? Incredibly POOR DESIGN!!
