Thankyou for being so up front and honest about the cost of the mods. I find it very helpful. It seems pretty reasonable to me, and having seen your diff and clutch upgrade vid, it easy to see why that part was more costly. Hope to see you out on track soon, mate!
I pull off in 2nd gear in my Westfield. It give me brilliant 0-60 times as I redline at about 65mph before changing to 3rd. Love that you have tailored the mini to deliver what you want. Cost is always a bit scary. My wife has no idea what I have spent on cars and mods in the past, and I don't ask how much she spends at the hairdressers. Great video as always.
Alright Pete, thanks for being honest about the pricing of Rubys mods. It's refreshing for anybody to be straight about the costs involved. I know on a personal level how much things costs, having modded many cars through the years, a lot of youngsters throw on an exhaust and expect huge power gains, but as you know to get an all round package, able to actually put the power through the tyres on to the black stuff safely is far more involved and expensive. Having said that the gains you receive in handling braking, cornering and outright power that's usable is worth every penny, providing you get it all set up correctly, camber, castor, corner weights etc, and most important decent tyres with correct tyre pressure! Congratulations on all of your awesome honest videos/reviews, I like many others look forward to each upload you make. All the best mate, Ralph.
An honest and in depth review of what you’ve done. At the end of the day, if it gives you the car that you want then it’s a no brainier. Look forward to seeing how it gets on at the auto-solo. Will try and get down to watch.

Hi Pete, the car (Ruby) is amazing as expected!! Great value given the improvements involved. Great to see the "pup" and "pooch" again. Cheers mate. Be safe, many good things coming to humanity in the very near future. Can't wait to be a part of it all.....................
Fair play, not many people are open about the cost of modding their car. For me as I'm looking at buying and modding a mini soon this video was perfect for everything I wanted to know, the car looks amazing and I think if you enjoy the car more the price is not everything, great video and thanks for the insight
I have a DS3 Racing that has already been modified. Saved me thousands, looking to having the diff done, not going to be cheap. Why they don’t fit them at the factory on high performance cars I have no idea!
Great video Ped especially the view out of the windscreen. Very much appreciate the honesty on the costs too. Stirling content buddy, peace and respect, Ben
This guy is just too like-able. I’ve been watching his videos for about three days solid now. I’ve learned a lot however, I’m literally just here for the entertainment factor anymore. So good.
Great video, interesting and informative mods and very good, clear, articulate commentary - to be honest better than a couple of the current Top Gear presenters. 👍
To be honest, that's not bad value at all. Plus you can't put a value on having a smile on your face each time you drive it. Very refreshing to get a bit of honesty regarding costs on TH-cam but then we wouldn't really expect anything different from you. Totally agree with you regarding 'Party Mode' on the exhaust. On the i30N I now only ever use it because I have to with maximum attack track day mode.
Ruby has “Mid Life Crisis” written all over it 😂. I love it, sign me up 👍🏻. Really impressive changes, well thought out and balanced to ensure that the car is able to handle the power increase and remain completely drivable. Great video as always.
Really enjoyed this video and watching the process of Ruby developing! Watching you booting it out those corners it just made me smile! I’ve got a stock Mini Cooper so nothing compared to ruby but there’s a magic with them that just make you smile! Congratulations 🙏🏻
Bang on. Like cooking, those parts/service/upgrades make for a GREAT recipe of fun. Torque ? Like holy goodness, the words "torque" and "small 4-cylinder" in the same sentence was something I'v never even contemplated.. but sort out a Mini + a stage 2 tune.. and wow.. just wow.. Cheers from Wisconsin
Great video and the honesty of the cost is good to know, keep up the videos!!! I am looking to buy the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo (4S e-hybrid) over the next year!!! I will let you know when I get it, so if you want to do a review on it, happy for you to do one!!!!
Oh they are one of my favourite cars I've driven so far. I think they are drop dead gorgeous to look at and utterly brilliant to drive. Mrs PP would quite like one to replace the Audi S4 she currently drives. Thanks so much for the offer of driving yours. If I hadn't already reviewed it I would bite your arm off ! Check this out...th-cam.com/video/vUflt6R6UOM/w-d-xo.html
Petrol Ped the main reason I chose Quaife is they are the factory choice, unfortunately, here in the US, Ford decide we shouldn’t have any more fun cars 😢
Love what you have done to the car. I have done most of that on my F56 , without the polybushing. I actually think the biggest difference is when the tyres are changed from runflats to PS4. The TTV clutch has taken a long time to bed in, over 2000 miles and still judders a bit in reverse. The extra torque is the best thing and I can be in a much higher gear than before. My sport mode has no extra pops and bangs built in but still pops a little when warm and decelerating from 2800 revs. I use it a lot as the steering firms up and of course the throttle response is better than non sport. We can compare notes at Castle Combe.
Great vid, Peter. And the cost isn’t too painful, given that a) it is what you wanted to do and b) very much a voyage of discovery to establish the effects on Ruby’s handling. I have a boat and can tell a story about modifying, upgrading etc of her electronics, vhf radio, radar and various fittings, etc. I used to keep track of what I was spending, but I don’t do that now. I would frighten myself silly with how much has been spent on her. The moral of the story is that we only live once and cant take it with us when we go. So enjoy it! Sorry to waffle on a bit, Peter! Greetings from the Wirral. 👍🏻🛥🚘
Good job you said that final cost quick! Mini mods have always seem to be expensive! Only cheap thing Ive found to do so far is a res delete. A remap for nearly £300 is a bit dear though
The only major modification I've ever done to my car is have a Remus exhaust fitted to my Golf GTI, which came in just under £1k - has definitely been worth it in my mind. Thought about spacers and brake upgrades, but in the end I couldn't justify it - luckily the GTI has such a good differential I'll never need to change it! Thanks for sharing the costs!
Ouch!! That bill must have hurt. Did think somewhere between 4 and 7 thousand £ myself. Your JCW does look ace and sounds awesome( really love the party mode 😀). Finally I like the fact that the mods you have done are simple and not too outlandish like some cars that have been modified 👍👍
Lovely and fun.. Mod costs are not too bad . It's only sounds a lot when doing all at once... But I can see another mod coming.. Gear box and launch control next... Go on!!. Great vid guys xx
Great video Peter. Looking at the driving performance of your video I'm actually quite shocked at the costs involved myself. I expected a lot more if I'm honest . Definitely worth doing !! Before your video I was expecting you to say 10 grand !!
Excellent video. Really good to hear about the costs, and an honest appraisal of what you thought were the best value modifications. Am considering a diff for my car, this makes me think it’s a good call :)
Morning mate. I still like the pops when it’s appropriate. You’ve come me a long way with Ruby. Looks great round the curves. Prices were not bad, a few glasses of Brandy, or cases lol. Right it’s 2am and I have to be up at 8:30!! Marriage at 15:30!!! Have a great weekend. Laters pal.
Love all the mods! You have me planning doing the same kind of things to my R59. I'm now looking at which order to go in, and thinking I'm going to start with the bushings (since the last MOT had them as starting get worn down. Then I'll do the diff and clutch, then trying to decide if I want the performance pack 2 or 3 (since mine's not a JCW). Can't wait to get started (then eventually take my monster back to the States).
I like all your mods and it makes it more personal, unique and enjoyable. I made some tasteful and discreet mods to Scirocco R and only regret was an exhaust drone at 2k rpm. However I've just sold it and it was very hard to sell, certainly lost money on it 😞 Trophy R coming 👍 Nice vid mate.
My a3 only has a resonator delete and a remap to 240bhp Completely transforms the car. Not obnoxiously loud if you drive carefully, however... stick your foot down and it growls. My favorite noise is when the traction control kicks in and raw fuel gets dumped into the exhaust.. I imagine 270bhp in your little car must be awesome. Off to goodwood revival sunday. Might see you there!!
pinkze he say " you can really see the camber on those rear wheels, the Pacemans are cambered in a lot at the rear too " ( a Mini engineer told me Mini did that to aid handling)
Nice job !! Modifying your car is is putting your own stamp on it , we all have different tastes which is good life would be boring otherwise, I've spent thousands on mine !! Diff probably being the best mod 👍 it's an addiction
You really gave me some great ideas. When I get the car back this week. I will need to determine whether I can wait to to get a new clutch and diff. Im would like to wait to next year to fit it in my budget. I'm already $6500 deep into it.
Thank you for another very informative video…you mention insurance would it be appropriate to divulge who you use ? as I’m sure you can appreciate it not always easy to insure heavily modified vehicles .
My only experience of driving Minis is with the classic Mini, including modified ones. But recalling your drive of Mark's supercharged classic Mini, you discovered the quick handling pointy feel of the car was easily comparable to the New Mini. So it sounds like Ruby is fully track ready now! Cant wait for that first session!
I thought you would say the map 1st closely followed by the LSD - no surprise the diff made the biggest difference on a 2wd platform. As I said on my 335D 10 years ago it transformed the car - should be fitted at the factory!
worth every penny such a great overall package! Can lohen make the pops and bangs a bit less frequent? A halfway house between stock pops and bangs and your party mode would be perfect for me.
They ca certainly make them go away. Interestingly, in non party mode the pops are becoming more frequent as things bed in. I'd love something have way between the two 👍
@@PetrolPed Yes if I get my cooper S mapped I'll ask them about it. As the pops are largely programmed in you'd think there must be a degree of adjustability?
Hi good video nice exhaust note without the popping very interesting it’s nice to watch something that you do not need to be a oligarch to enjoy good shot of the nice pooches.
Brilliant video.... thanks...Gives me more mod ideas for my JCW coupe ive had stage 1 and res delete. And chrome wrapped , still so much to do Shes exactly same colours as ruby too.
Thanks PP for this very interesting review of mods to your mini. You say the cost is around £6k to go on this kind of upgrade project - but what about the factors that no one ever seems to mention - like warranty and sale value? I realise it is hard to put a value on these, as you don't know if something is going to fail tomorrow or next year - but what is the likely cash risk if it does and the Mini Service Centre takes one look at Ruby and shakes its head? What are your options here - what do you need to weigh up when considering going down the modification road? And finally when it comes to changing the car - what does a dealership say if you want to do a part exchange? And if you want to sell privately - who would want to buy a heavily modified car? And how much hassle will there be in idiots coming to your house and telling you its worth only half what you know its worth? I am on the verge of going down the modified road like you have with my Mini JCW Challenge - but I want to have a realistic idea of what I am actually getting into? Thoughts please??!!
Let me answer a couple of your points. I waited until my warranty had expired until I started modifying so don’t have to worry about that. Next, I went to highly regarded modifiers like Lohen. They thoroughly check the car can take what you are doing to it so hopefully that should be OK. I’ve not pushed the power too much and have upgraded the clutch. Finally the resale value. I agree a main dealer is unlikely to take the car in px. That will never be my plan. I will sell privately as a modified car and luckily for me it will be a well know modified car. You could reverse the mods but that is easier said than done. Hope that helps 👍
Brilliant insight into modding if you have a, let's be honest here, reasonably generous budget. All the same she looks great, I love to have a drive in her. Next time you're in Lincolnshire Pete? Lol..
I'm a big fan of mini, love my F56 & previous R56, looking to mod my F65 and thought, "if he's honest and its not a clickbait thumbnail, i'll subscribe" so I did. Wel done pal, and cheers for the candour and advice. If you have any thoughts on the JCW tuning kit, i'd love to hear it
Thanks for the Sub and welcome to the channel. If you are based in the UK then I would suggest talking to Lohen. They know their stuff and ship internationally 👍
Morning Pete I was looking forward to the finished review and I must say for the amount of money spent I don’t think it’s a lot for the performance and handling you have achieved.I bet it feels like driving a brand new car👍🧽🏁
Hmm...I thought it would have been more..say £8/9000 so not bad value. It would be interesting to test it against a 1966 Mini Cooper 1275S which I suspect would feel terrible by comparison! Well done for the honesty and information...my biggest worry is how do you stop getting speeding fines from “Safety Cameras” set up hidden around corners and in a handy lay-by? It worries me all the time so I have to do the IAM driving job just in case...and my SL will effortlessly power through every limit already. Enjoy the car....very interesting story and good luck!!😎😎😎😎😎
Petrol Ped Yes indeed! Those at Bonhams were alright but rather a lot of parts bin bolted together. I would want a genuine, full history and accurately restored 1071S...too often I see glaring mistakes on old Mini restorations...I want it to be perfect AND I still have my 1966 Mendac Car Coat AND it still fits with the zip done up!! Phew!! Next stop...Southampton Boat Show today..I feel the need for a Princess 70...and that Cooper S to get away before the cheque bounces!!😱😎😎😎😎
@@PetrolPed I guessed as much and that is fabulous. But as an Australian, I kinda like properties like I think yours is and would love to see a bit about it and I assume you have room for multiple cars. Maybe no one else would care, but I would like to see it. It feels a bit like Harrys place.
@@rosaliebent4833 It is a converted barn. Originally part of the farm building of the larger farmhouse next door. Not sure I'd do a video walkaround for YT but we have plenty of parking and it's situated next to the working farm with great access to the countryside for walk with the dogs
@@PetrolPed We are not really 'country folk', but if we were, it sounds lovely. I like the idea of lots of space and we are looking at a new house and the first thing we look at is carp parking spaces. Our old house had 7 car spaces (or 12 if you were really really really good at parking). now we see really expensive houses with parking for 2 cars - as long as they are medium sized. Pass. Thanks for the info. Love Petrol Pup and Petrol Pooch. They are a great addition to the videos.
Great video, thanks for talking us through all the changes you’ve made. The wheels look really good! Would you mind sharing where you got them painted / powder coated and what the colour is?
Ruby's looking and sounding great. However. Any chance you can do a video on the new JCW Clubman with the 306bhp and 4wd? :-))... I cannot find one decent video on YT :-((...
Hi Pete, spoke to lohen this week about mods to my Roadster JCW around stage 2 mods but they now longer support this upgrade as looking for another supplier for their maps? Interesting that they still offer mods to copper s model. Any suggestions? Thanks Russell
Cheers Pete, already started modifying my roadster must try and keep within budget. Your advice about do diff 1st makes sense. Bit confused about runflat tyre pressures mine says 3bar? Seems very high? What did you run yours at? Great video as always and very honest about costs!! Look forward to next update on Ruby. Regards Russell
excuse my ignorance but how is popping on the overun like a carb , sporty?? assuming it is not running a carb. but man that looks a really fun drive, nice work.
All in all Peter that’s not an obscene amount of money. It’s one of those things in life where you have to decide what you want from the mod’s, are they achievable and will they be reliable in the long term. When we put a heavy stamp on our personal preferences we have to be aware that they’re not always going to be what the next owner is looking for. That can lead us to be stuck with a car that’s too personalised and individual to our tastes. Then there’s the depreciation, unless the prospective new owner sees its what he/she is happy to part with their hard earned vonga. Hence I stopped throwing more money at both my JCW Coupe & GP2 as the market was showing clear signs that the values were dropping & Main Dealers were definitely not queuing up to take them into stock. Anyway, it’s your money & if it rewards you with many happy memories - fair accomplit. Apologies for rambling on, still doped up, pain worse than before I was sliced open. Catch you later............. Geof
Cheers Geof. I hope as I've not gone too extreme and had it done by reputable companies it won't hit the value too much. Still not sure if it will have to go to make way for the GP3 so I guess I'll find out then 😂 I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you feel better soon.
Beautiful car. All you need are some furry dice hanging from your rear view mirror. 😆 seriously though, I love it! I get my new 20 plate Cooper S on the 2nd March.
Thanx for the vid. Was waiting for it. Well explained and to be honest, I thought it would bee more expensive. Is it possible I've missed the 75 quid for each tpms-sensor?
Dont feel to bad on the mods mate im down in australia have a jcw r56 have spent about 3thousand pounds just getting rite to do some mods with timing chain walnut blast overall health check brakesvacuum pump etc an i havent got lohen down here lol im still trying to find someone to do some mods in australia so tell the wife your very lucky luv the roadster if you know of anyone down here send me a reply would be greatly appreciated luv your channel
Now that's something you don't get to see too often! The actual cost of a person's amusement, if you want my advice that's a whole lot less then a divorce because instead of having fun with a car it was with a mistress. Cheers Pete and thanks for sharing that.
Hi Peter, Jim from Ontario, Canada. I just recently came upon your TH-cam channel and subscribed and think your content is great. I have a 2013 Roadster S that like yourself I am in love with. I need to ask and I realize that this feed is a few years old but I was wondering if you were considering adding any gauges to your Ruby Roadster? I just replaced my water pump and if I had any water temp gauges I might have been able to realize sooner than later that something wasn't right. With the mods that you've done I would think that you might want to keep an eye on what's going on under the hood?
Hi Jim. I still have the car and am very much in love with it too. Not considered additional gauges to be honest. Mainly as I’m not keen on the look but appreciate the benefits 👍
Modding isn't my thing (OK I did fit a Carnewal exhaust) but you really, really did it properly. Way too many folk chip their cars and never consider how the power will get onto the road without either vaporising the tyres or torque steering them into a bush. It seems you are a rare thing... A sensible TH-cam car reviewer... We should have you stuffed and mounted above the fireplace for rarity value.
pinkze he say " love your channel as I love my Minis and YOU know your Minis ! I have a Paceman Cooper S All 4,so I wanted to ask you if you think it is worthwhile going to a stage 1 map at Lohen ( they are local to me ) I know the Cooper S All 4 clutch is the same as in Jcw, so I think it should cope with the power jump ? Really interested to see what you think, thank you "
It will make a difference to the drive for sure. It’s not too dramatic either so clutch and gearbox should be OK. Go have a chat with Lohen and tell them I sent you 😜👍 They will talk you through the options 👍
Great video, my wife has the exact same car and does not like the standard wheels, the ones that you have fitted look great, are they the standard diameter & offset and are the tyres the same heigth & aspect ratio ? Thanks Dougie
@@PetrolPed Thanks very much for your reply. It is an amazing wee car, this is my wife's 2nd one, and there is nothing on the market nowadays that can replace it.
Why they dont manufacturer the gearbox with straight cut gears to run with the differential you install just like the classic minis. I think you would get much more aggressive response from the lower gears like the classic mini.
Also have you or anyone else thought about a comparison map to the Manic to see if the performance is their minus the pops and bangs? When it's hot in sport mode it's like an AK47 going berzerk!
@@PetrolPed hmm they said they couldnt guarantee no pops N bangs so I just went with whatever their map was. Its only when it's hot and you're pressing on does it sound like a machine gun. I gather Manic are now in administration too which is a shame.
Great video, and my R56 has a very similar spec bar diff and has all the hoses deleted. I'm making around 270bhp and 412nm. It's going back to Lohen for more repairs as there's been issues with the coilovers etc and after the new ttv clutch and LW flywheel it whistles. So my question to you is if they remove the box to investigate should I now have the LSD fitted? Does it really limit wheel spin? Right now I can light the tyre(S) up from a rolling 20 in second. Just wondering if it would hook up nicely and be a much quicker car with it? Any plans to sell it.. Feel like it's served its purpose. On to bigger and better?
Hi There. Firstly, if the gearbox is off the car I'd very much recommend the LSD. It makes a huge difference, especially in the wet.I have money down on the GP3, which is due early next year. My heart says I'd like to keep it but my head says sell it and that will help pay for the GP 🤔
@@PetrolPed Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'm considering it, but also weighing up the costs as one of your recent posts showed its a costly process modding. We shall see. Do you have any idea what % of lock it is?
@@purefitnessshoreditch8180 HI, The Quaife diff doesn't "lock" it is an ATB (Auto Torque Biasing) where it transfers the power to the wheel that has the most grip, this is why if you have driven a car with one fitted you will feel it pulling the steering wheel from side to side under hard acceleration as the wheels fight for grip. mgaguru.com/mgtech/rearaxle/ra302c.htm
Hi can you tell me more about the LW flywheel whistle as my stock clutch has just failed and i am seriously thinking about getting the TTV clutch and LW flywheel but i am very concerned about noise / chatter and now whistle Thanks
Hey Pete, My brother has a Golf R Estate. He’s spent £250 on a remap and it has shot up to 380hp. For such an understated car (and being an estate), it really shocks boy racers of today with half of Halfords stuck to their Chavmobile when a 50 year old Dad blows them away from the lights. He has also had some fun with M3’s & M5’s in wet conditions - its great fun..
Great video Pete, really enjoy the Mini videos. You've driven a lot of expensive & fast cars , how would you rate Ruby compared to them, as much fun or more? there's only so fast you can drive on the UK roads.....
Another great video. Thank you for the insight into cost. I had estimated £6-8k, so I wasn’t too far out! Did you add in the cost of the tyre sensors after the failed MOT? Let’s gloss over that very swiftly! In your opinion do these mods actually add to the resale value were you to sell? (Not that any of us would expect you to do so). Keep up the great work 👍🏻.
I was trying to forget that 😂 Not sure about the resale value. I am sure it doesn't add £6k to the value but I think it makes the car very attractive to a certain pool of buyers. I know some people won't like it as they want cars to be stock.
Now Ruby's dressed up to the nines, and dont she just look, sound and handle . !! But whats the difference between a Mini with or without a diff ?? or even a LSD come to that ? I'd love to take her out for a night on the town :) All the best mate and keep'em comeing...
Hi Pete, bit surprised to see the 0-60 only being a second quicker than my ND MX5, but like you say its not just the 0-60, its how she pulls from 30-60 after each corner, my wife has been very bored of her Kuga ST Line since I've had the MX5, she's now looking to part ex her car for a Mini Countryman, do you have any experience of these and if so which one you'd recommend? Great video as usual, thanks, Paul.
I could get that down with practice. Only filmed it once when making the vid. The Countryman is a great car. I think it looks cool and is really practical. I had a friend with a Cooper S and that was brilliant. Probably the one I would go for 👍

Really enjoyed this video and watching the process of Ruby developing! Watching you booting it out those corners it just made me smile! I’ve got a stock Mini Cooper so nothing compared to ruby but there’s a magic with them that just make you smile! Congratulations 🙏🏻
Thank you. Mini have a way of making you smile every time you get behind the wheel, even when you've had a bad day 😜
Great video Peter, it’s nice to see an hear some honest and straight forward comments and advice. £6k was not as much as I thought to be honest.
Thanks Russell 👍
Hi Ped
Excellent final chapter.👍👍
I was surprised at the final cost, lower than I expected, great value bearing in mind the finished result.🤗🤗
It is the torque that has made the big difference 👏 And hello Wisconsin !
@@PetrolPed yeh so that vid and that's what got my interest!!! But thought you might want to review a used one too!
Thanks for the video. The change in my 2016 Fiesta ST when I added a Quaife diff was mega! A must-have mod.
The new Fiesta ST has a Quaife ATB from factory 😜
Petrol Ped the main reason I chose Quaife is they are the factory choice, unfortunately, here in the US, Ford decide we shouldn’t have any more fun cars 😢
I really appreciate your honesty. I was waiting for this.
My pleasure 👍
Oh yes, getting rid of run flats made a huge difference 👍
👍🏻🛥🚘
Now boats are another league all together 😮
Good job you said that final cost quick! Mini mods have always seem to be expensive! Only cheap thing Ive found to do so far is a res delete. A remap for nearly £300 is a bit dear though
I agree some of my mods were expensive. I’ve never been a fan of just flashing the ECU with a remap without doing a few other important things 😬
I bet that sounds mega 👌
Best episode of Marion and Geoff ever!
Ouch!! That bill must have hurt. Did think somewhere between 4 and 7 thousand £ myself. Your JCW does look ace and sounds awesome( really love the party mode 😀). Finally I like the fact that the mods you have done are simple and not too outlandish like some cars that have been modified 👍👍
I always wanted to keep the car looking just a but more racey than stock. I love the stance and wheels. The best bit is cold start in the morning 😜👌
Lovely and fun.. Mod costs are not too bad . It's only sounds a lot when doing all at once... But I can see another mod coming.. Gear box and launch control next... Go on!!. Great vid guys xx
Shhh...don't tell anyone 🤫
Great video Peter. Looking at the driving performance of your video I'm actually quite shocked at the costs involved myself. I expected a lot more if I'm honest . Definitely worth doing !! Before your video I was expecting you to say 10 grand !!
That is good to know. Makes me feel much better 😂
You do make excellent videos. Well done. I love the end result of your efforts.
Thank you. I am so please how she turned out 👍
Excellent video. Really good to hear about the costs, and an honest appraisal of what you thought were the best value modifications. Am considering a diff for my car, this makes me think it’s a good call :)
It's a very good call 👍👌
beautiful little baby you got between your hands!!!!!sounds great!!!!have lots of fun!!!!!
Laters pal.
MATE...good luck today. I'll be thinking of you. When anyone asks you a question just say 'I do' 😂
Great vid once again! As I’ve said before we like the honesty and the true passion behind it all !!! 👍🏻😎
Thank you 🙏
Love all the mods!
Sounds like you have a plan mate 👍
I bought the Quaife on your recommendation. Costley but well worth it. Thank you.
Ruby looks and perform great, you must be very happy with the work that’s been done. Happy motoring!
I am chuffed to bits with how she looks and how she drives 👍
Nice video ,glad the prices have been mentioned by yourself ,I’m doing a few modifications on my SD but don’t even come close to your budget
It's good fun no matter what your budget. Also you can save a huge amount by doing stuff yourself 👍
I can change a headlight bulb 🤣🤣
I like all your mods and it makes it more personal, unique and enjoyable. I made some tasteful and discreet mods to Scirocco R and only regret was an exhaust drone at 2k rpm. However I've just sold it and it was very hard to sell, certainly lost money on it 😞 Trophy R coming 👍 Nice vid mate.
My a3 only has a resonator delete and a remap to 240bhp
Completely transforms the car.
I'll be there Sunday so will look out for you 👍
pinkze he say " you can really see the camber on those rear wheels, the Pacemans are cambered in a lot at the rear too " ( a Mini engineer told me Mini did that to aid handling)
Nice job !! Modifying your car is is putting your own stamp on it , we all have different tastes which is good life would be boring otherwise, I've spent thousands on mine !! Diff probably being the best mod 👍 it's an addiction
Someone said that to me when I started this process...I now know what they meant 😂😂😂
You really gave me some great ideas. When I get the car back this week. I will need to determine whether I can wait to to get a new clutch and diff. Im would like to wait to next year to fit it in my budget. I'm already $6500 deep into it.
Highly recommended when time and budget allow 👍
Thank you for another very informative video…you mention insurance would it be appropriate to divulge who you use ? as I’m sure you can appreciate it not always easy to insure heavily modified vehicles .
My cars are insured with Lockton Performance. My Porsche is the main car but they cover the Mini with all its mods no worries 👍
That could be my Nardo grey Westfield that you were followering. I can’t quite make out the plate.
The Autosolo I mentioned in the video is in a couple of weeks and Mark will be competing in his Mini too 👍
@@PetrolPed Cool bananas! Better watch out, he may have 100bhp less, but his Mini is smaller so can slip through smaller gaps!!
Just about to pick up a mini coupe. Had a R53 and I needed deep pockets 😭. Nothing beats the drive of a mini, great video, subscibed 🤘🤘
I thought you would say the map 1st closely followed by the LSD - no surprise the diff made the biggest difference on a 2wd platform. As I said on my 335D 10 years ago it transformed the car - should be fitted at the factory!
I agree with the factory fit but the money get in the way every time. Although the new Fiesta ST has a Quaife ATB from factory 👍
worth every penny such a great overall package!
As the pops are largely programmed in you'd think there must be a degree of adjustability?
well worth the 6k - Ruby's value is enhanced, you've enjoyed the journey and the performance sounds fantastic, great result.
You know you need to drive her for your channel 😜
Petrol Ped love to, expect a DM soonish ! I shall bring a Porsche with me 👍
Fantastic as always. You could get a job on top gear as a presenter. Hope to see you at goodwood festival of speed in person this year 👍🏼
Again awesome 😎 job fella. Love 💖 the vid and honesty. You have an epic Mini, keep up the great 👍 work 💋
Thank you 🙏
Hi good video nice exhaust note without the popping very interesting it’s nice to watch something that you do not need to be a oligarch to enjoy good shot of the nice pooches.
Thank you. Gotta get the Pooches in there 😜
Brilliant video.... thanks...Gives me more mod ideas for my JCW coupe ive had stage 1 and res delete.
And chrome wrapped , still so much to do
Shes exactly same colours as ruby too.
Awesome. We might be biased but that is the best colour combo 😜
@@PetrolPed oh most definitely it is the best colour combo.
No comment on the lightweight flywheel? surely this made a huge difference?
Sorry yes, the engine is certainly more responsive and the blip when heel and toeing is much quicker too 😜
Thanks PP for this very interesting review of mods to your mini.
Lol..
You could save a bit if you did it yourself 😜
I'm a big fan of mini, love my F56 & previous R56, looking to mod my F65 and thought, "if he's honest and its not a clickbait thumbnail, i'll subscribe" so I did. Wel done pal, and cheers for the candour and advice. If you have any thoughts on the JCW tuning kit, i'd love to hear it
Thanks for the Sub and welcome to the channel. If you are based in the UK then I would suggest talking to Lohen. They know their stuff and ship internationally 👍
@@PetrolPed Nice one! thanks! i'll have a look! (i've just commented on your new video, so feel free to ignore that) Ta
Morning Pete I was looking forward to the finished review and I must say for the amount of money spent I don’t think it’s a lot for the performance and handling you have achieved.I bet it feels like driving a brand new car👍🧽🏁
She drives so well. Just more and better in every department 👍
Tks for the explanation and your time....regards from Brazil
Hello Brazil 👋
Hmm...I thought it would have been more..say £8/9000 so not bad value. It would be interesting to test it against a 1966 Mini Cooper 1275S which I suspect would feel terrible by comparison! Well done for the honesty and information...my biggest worry is how do you stop getting speeding fines from “Safety Cameras” set up hidden around corners and in a handy lay-by? It worries me all the time so I have to do the IAM driving job just in case...and my SL will effortlessly power through every limit already. Enjoy the car....very interesting story and good luck!!😎😎😎😎😎
I'd love to own an original Cooper S 😬
Petrol Ped Yes indeed! Those at Bonhams were alright but rather a lot of parts bin bolted together. I would want a genuine, full history and accurately restored 1071S...too often I see glaring mistakes on old Mini restorations...I want it to be perfect AND I still have my 1966 Mendac Car Coat AND it still fits with the zip done up!! Phew!! Next stop...Southampton Boat Show today..I feel the need for a Princess 70...and that Cooper S to get away before the cheque bounces!!😱😎😎😎😎
Great video, thanks for sharing the costs. 👍🏻
My pleasure 👍
Id like a walk around your property. It looks very nice and very large and probably why $10,000 (AUD) was so easy for you. well done.
We are very lucky 🙏
@@PetrolPed I guessed as much and that is fabulous. But as an Australian, I kinda like properties like I think yours is and would love to see a bit about it and I assume you have room for multiple cars. Maybe no one else would care, but I would like to see it. It feels a bit like Harrys place.

The Ruby Roadster with the "kepp it aesthetics" wheel arches would look m a s s i v e !

Great video, thanks for talking us through all the changes you’ve made.
The wheels look really good! Would you mind sharing where you got them painted / powder coated and what the colour is?
They were pained Anthracite due to time pressure but I would really like them powder coated by The Wheel Specialist 👌
Ruby's looking and sounding great.
However. Any chance you can do a video on the new JCW Clubman with the 306bhp and 4wd? :-))... I cannot find one decent video on YT :-((...

I might have missed it but what’s the relevance of the deer with shades as part of your door motif? Enjoyed the update with Ruby
The deer is the logo of the B Road Hunting Club and we combined our logos as they did the aesthetic mods 👍
Hi Pete, spoke to lohen this week about mods to my Roadster JCW around stage 2 mods but they now longer support this upgrade as looking for another supplier for their maps? Interesting that they still offer mods to copper s model. Any suggestions? Thanks Russell
Don't they support Manic anymore?.... mmmmh I think they would upgrade to RPM
News to me mate. I'm not sure to be honest 🤔
Russell Hunt Run flats do run really high. My advice would be to replace with normal tyres and run at 36psi
excuse my ignorance but how is popping on the overun like a carb , sporty?? assuming it is not running a carb.
but man that looks a really fun drive, nice work.
I have a hair dryer in the boot 😜😂
Thanx for the vid. Was waiting for it. Well explained and to be honest, I thought it would bee more expensive. Is it possible I've missed the 75 quid for each tpms-sensor?

Now that's something you don't get to see too often! The actual cost of a person's amusement, if you want my advice that's a whole lot less then a divorce because instead of having fun with a car it was with a mistress. Cheers Pete and thanks for sharing that.
My pleasure. My plan is to stay married 😜
Great video and brilliant of you to add up the costs. Car looks awesome. Whens your small screen debut tho??
That would be nice. Hopefully not too long 😜😂
Modding isn't my thing (OK I did fit a Carnewal exhaust) but you really, really did it properly. Way too many folk chip their cars and never consider how the power will get onto the road without either vaporising the tyres or torque steering them into a bush.
It seems you are a rare thing... A sensible TH-cam car reviewer... We should have you stuffed and mounted above the fireplace for rarity value.
LOL...thank you 😜😂

Really interested to see what you think, thank you "
It will make a difference to the drive for sure. It’s not too dramatic either so clutch and gearbox should be OK. Go have a chat with Lohen and tell them I sent you 😜👍 They will talk you through the options 👍

Great video, my wife has the exact same car and does not like the standard wheels, the ones that you have fitted look great, are they the standard diameter & offset and are the tyres the same heigth & aspect ratio ? Thanks Dougie
Diameter and tyre size is the same. Offset was slightly different but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was 😬
@@PetrolPed Thanks very much for your reply. It is an amazing wee car, this is my wife's 2nd one, and there is nothing on the market nowadays that can replace it.
Why they dont manufacturer the gearbox with straight cut gears to run with the differential you install just like the classic minis. I think you would get much more aggressive response from the lower gears like the classic mini.
what type of mintex pads? have brembo xtra pads and think they are more suited to "warmer" climates...
Not sure of the specific type sorry 😪
i have an r56 jcw and have just bought some mintex pads. i can tell you the part numbers if you have the same
Also have you or anyone else thought about a comparison map to the Manic to see if the performance is their minus the pops and bangs? When it's hot in sport mode it's like an AK47 going berzerk!
Lohen do a map without the pops and bangs 👍
We are all big kids, only difference is that you tend to have more money when you are older, so the toys get more expensive!
That's a lot of extra ponies for your money !
Worth every penny !!
I think so 😜
Great video Pete, really enjoy the Mini videos. You've driven a lot of expensive & fast cars , how would you rate Ruby compared to them, as much fun or more? there's only so fast you can drive on the UK roads.....
She is right up there with the most fun cars I've driven. For pure driving maybe only a Caterham beats it 👍
Exactly. You can only drive so fast on UK roads for 99% of the time. So pointless having anything with much more than 300bhp.
@@PetrolPed Indeed, let me know if you intend to sell it - I miss my R56 JCW that was fitted with similar mods!
Watching you cringe in sport mode did make me laugh. Thanks for the update - enjoyed the video!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍

By diff I meant ATB LSD 😜
Hi Pete, bit surprised to see the 0-60 only being a second quicker than my ND MX5, but like you say its not just the 0-60, its how she pulls from 30-60 after each corner, my wife has been very bored of her Kuga ST Line since I've had the MX5, she's now looking to part ex her car for a Mini Countryman, do you have any experience of these and if so which one you'd recommend? Great video as usual, thanks, Paul.
