I had much the same, mine was completely stock, and put out 237hp in February this year. A 2013 N18 JCW Coupe. Since then I’ve upgraded the induction, but am considering more in future, we’ll see.
My car arrived at Lohen today for a new engine. It’s the only time I’ve ever had confidence in someone working on my mini. And watching this video makes me feel even happier. Lol I know I sound like a fan boy lol.
Can't complain with Lohen, had mostly good experiences with them and they know their stuff. What I would say though despite the fancy dyno it's really hit and miss. Some really big differences in HP between the Lohen dyno and a more widely respected dyno such as Surrey Rolling Road.
Hats off to Lohen for doing the health check first. I modified my R53 (supercharger pulley and CAI), but the car died with a blown cylinder at 55,000 miles. I can't for sure say cause and effect, but it's great the Lohen does that.
Nice little insight in Lohen's workshop, with plenty of tempting treats! The mini sounds awesome!, I'm sure you'll feel the difference in the power now hey! Good stuff! 😊
Incredible, 238 hp from an engine that will provide 211 hp. Exciting to follow your Mini tuning. Smiling again, when you talk about insurance. Back then, in the middle of -90, I was new as a taxiowner (Oslo) and wanted to buy a MB 220D to use as a taxi. The first insurance offer I got, was about £ 10.000. The next one was about £ 4000. It enden with about £ 1200 for unlimited distance.
Yours is the first vid that I have come across that actually deals with insurance costs and advice and down to the costs of the actual modifications. Superb. Is the labour included. Just subscribed.

Thanks, as a retired Insurance Broker for the mentioning the importance of declaring mods to Insurers, I wish some folk would take this seriously🤔 As an aside I have Reg AUD150V on my SQ5, and had a plate made up to read AUDI 50V. My local plod were not interested in making an issue of it as they said it was more likely to be remembered in the event of an incident!😉

LOHEN has been great with there modifications from what I've seen and read over the years they're legends in opinion I will be looking forward towards tomorrow for more of Lohen stock as I have watched this twice 🤠 great stuff love minis not got one will be searching after the wife gets the idea or hint lol

Hi Simon. My Ruby mods haven't but a video coming soon has ! I drove the Lohen F56 demo car called 'Dori'...ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT !If the GP3 proves too expensive I will buy a used F56 and throw 10 grand at it with Lohen 😂

Really pleased for you Peter, you couldn’t have made a better choice than Lohen. Nice level of tuning to start from, you’ll notice the improvement instantly and when you get the urge for more, the world’s your oyster ( or lobster lol, ) depending on what your passion is. From years of JCW ownership I’ve found the quoted factory bhp to always be less & wasn’t surprised to hear Ruby was putting out 230 bhp. I had a sportsman’s bet with Mrs Geof that you would hit 270. Nice one, enjoy mod’s mate. I’m missing my GP2 after only a few weeks due to the loss of use in my left leg but I knew it was going to happen sooner rather than later. Still I’m pleased to report the Cayman turned up at the right time and it’s going to enable me to still enjoy what I like most - being behind the wheel, having fun with a smile on my face. I've got a 2011 Coupe with the same colour scheme. I love it! Having some issues with the timing chain. It's got the N14 engine. Thinking of getting in touch with Lohen as I think where I took it previously have balled it up! Would love to do that to it though, looks amazing!!
I thought you were going to chop it in so can't understand the reason to map it? Mind you, it sounds great - you are going to experience people flapping their arms at you to slow down no matter what speed you are driving at. A great little ASBO on wheels. On the downside though I have now been pulled by the Plod twice for similar noise in the RS3 and made to go to their workshop once for checks which was a royal pain in the arse.
She may well have to go when the GP3 arrives but I will do everything I can for the not to happen. I am waiting for that to happen. Didn't know they could make you go the the garage 😳
Quite exciting for you although I thinks the silly pops and bangs would irritate me very quickly. Not sure it's a great idea to dilute the performance jump of you on-order Mini by getting used to 270bhp prior to its arrival.

I was laughing loud when I heard that😂😂👍 It's actually a quite well value too. I just browsed websites, having certain feeling about what's gonna be there, and found that if I try to do the same the tuning you've done here it would cost me much much more here in Japan. Nearly £1000 for the down pipe and 800 for the ECU tuning, fitting cost NOT include, tuning a car is costly😰 Anyway, I'm looking forward to see what 290hp and near 400Nm hot Mini makes you feel in future videos😋😋😋 Oh ya, mentioning the declare to the insurance part was excellent. Proper way to do the mods. Cheers!🍻

I’ve also got the stage 2 with Arka. I live like 2 minutes from Lohen it’s so handy. Recommend these guys to anyone with a mini... I’ve had mine installed like a month now and I can feel my clutch starting to go though 😱 I run mine in map b as well which is about 258bhp. Mine was 225bhp std so I’m not very impressed with how *shit* the stock clutch is to be honest 😂
I am going to see how long this clutch lasts. It's done 50k miles so far. I have a slight leak in my diff oil seal so the next likely upgrade is an LSD and at the same time it makes sense to upgrade the clutch 👍 I think it's more likely the increase in torque will be the thing that is doing your clutch. How many miles has it done ?

@@PetrolPed Hi mate, yes i agree i think it's the extra torque. Mine has done 25k total miles 1k on the stage 2!! I only really drive mine in Map A as well which is 255bhp and 360nm toque up 60nm from 300 stock

I am still super excited ! The pops and bangs are due to the remap. They only happen in Sport Mode and Lohen will do you a Stage 2 without them if that's what you want 👍

Interesting to see what they and you had done to Ruby. One thing you didn't explicitly cover in regards to your insurance. Are they covering the value of the modifications as well or just the value of the car as standard?
How many pounds of boost are you running on stage 2? Iam running cAtless millteck and stage 2 with pushing 21.5 of boost which i believe is 4 pounds higher than stock boost! Can you find out with stAge 2 your running what is the boost level? Also you will enjoy upgrading the stock recerk to the Forge unit , makes a huuuuge difference in boost responsivness!!! Nice video

Hi. Had my R56 JCW done about 3 weeks ago and it only pops and bangs if I use the sport button thankfully. have you considered uprating the clutch as surely a standard clutch isn't going to last too long with all that power going through it?

Hi Ped. I absolutely agree. Have got my beastie booked into Lohen again at the end of May for the TTV clutch and Quaife LSD package. Then i'll be grinning all day long!
Standard JCW brake are from Brembo. I am likely to upgrade the pads to Mintex. The panel filter is part of the pack. Chosen by Lohen as a good fit for the rest of the upgrades.

Interesting you should say that. I had a friend that had there insurance premium reduce when they change to a private plate due to the same reason 👍

Peter that is some good work. I had my F56 performance ‘packed’ 2 by Lohen and you certainly don’t need to throw as much as £10k at it to get 300bhp.

Not in the engine. I have a slight diff seal leak which will need sorting. Might do that and change to an LSD and updated clutch 👍
Petrol Ped I can recommend the TTV Stage 2 Organic Clutch and Flywheel. Expensive but extremely good and will handle the torque.

Interesting they took the ECU out. When I had stage 2 installed, they just plugged into the OBD 2 port.
I'm guessing you can do either. I think Lohen do it that way as there is lots of other work going on in the engine bay for the Performance Pack 2 🤔

No, that was fully stock. Literally arrived and drove on to the rolling road. The only thing to say is that the car was running Shell V Power 99 RON 👍

I’ve also got the stage 2 with Arka. I live like 2 minutes from Lohen it’s so handy. Recommend these guys to anyone with a mini... I’ve had mine installed like a month now and I can feel my clutch starting to go though 😱 I run mine in map b as well which is about 258bhp. Mine was 225bhp std so I’m not very impressed with how *shit* the stock clutch is to be honest 😂
I am going to see how long this clutch lasts. It's done 50k miles so far. I have a slight leak in my diff oil seal so the next likely upgrade is an LSD and at the same time it makes sense to upgrade the clutch 👍
I think it's more likely the increase in torque will be the thing that is doing your clutch. How many miles has it done ?
@@PetrolPed Do Quaife do a machanical LSD for those? I have one on my MX5 and works really well.

@@PetrolPed Hi mate, yes i agree i think it's the extra torque. Mine has done 25k total miles 1k on the stage 2!! I only really drive mine in Map A as well which is 255bhp and 360nm toque up 60nm from 300 stock
Map C is 263bhp and 383nm of torque. You can really feel the difference but scared to ruin my clutch too quick at the minute!
I could sense your obvious excitement 👍 Might have trouble keeping traction though, maybe?? Do you know if the over-run pops & crackles are due to re-map, down pipe... or both?
I am still super excited ! The pops and bangs are due to the remap. They only happen in Sport Mode and Lohen will do you a Stage 2 without them if that's what you want 👍

And I both loved AND hated this video in one.
I loved it because I was really good. Interesting to see what they and you had done to Ruby.
I also hated it because I'm now going to look at the Lohen website to see what they can do for my Mini and I know I'll end up spending too much money. So when the missus asks me what I'm doing, I'll point her most blatantly in your direction.

I have a 2012 and it hard to believe that it's a 208 bhp engine but yours start in the dyno at 230 wonder why?

I didn't change the value of the car. That increase was just for the performance change 👍

How many pounds of boost are you running on stage 2? Iam running cAtless millteck and stage 2 with pushing 21.5 of boost which i believe is 4 pounds higher than stock boost! Can you find out with stAge 2 your running what is the boost level? Also you will enjoy upgrading the stock recerk to the Forge unit , makes a huuuuge difference in boost responsivness!!! Nice video
This map delivers 1.5 Bar (21.7 Pounds) so sounds pretty much the same as yours. I'm staying with stock internals for now 👍

Hi. Had my R56 JCW done about 3 weeks ago and it only pops and bangs if I use the sport button thankfully. have you considered uprating the clutch as surely a standard clutch isn't going to last too long with all that power going through it?

Hi Ped. I absolutely agree. Have got my beastie booked into Lohen again at the end of May for the TTV clutch and Quaife LSD package. Then i'll be grinning all day long!

It's a Lohen map based on a Manic Stage 2 I think. They can remove the pop and bangs if you don't want them 👍
will the std brakes be up to the job now & why go for a panel filter as opposed to a k&n, pipercross etc?
Standard JCW brake are from Brembo. I am likely to upgrade the pads to Mintex. The panel filter is part of the pack. Chosen by Lohen as a good fit for the rest of the upgrades.
