    Kurt's struggle with drugs is so painful. He never wanted the world to know he was an addict and he vehemently denied it in interviews, I think it only came out officially after he OD'ed in Rome and he was forced to confirm it. He denied it because he didn't want to influence kids into thinking hard drugs are cool and he did them to numb his chronic pains. He deserved so much better. I get pissed whenever I see people on social media dismiss him as a "junkie".

    • @gordianknot6867
      @gordianknot6867 2 ปีที่แล้ว +107

      I hate those attitudes too, according to Tracey his ex, he was actually somewhat anti drug, (besides experimenting as a teen) he thought low of people that used drugs. You can just imagine how hard it must have been on a psychological level, him feeling like the only answer to his pain is drugs but also hating it too. Personally I believe he started to take it for the pain but by the time he had found the proper medication it was too late, or perhaps the medication stopped working sometime after this interview. I think what Kurt desired most was family and stability, which of course cannot coexist with a drug addiction.

      In his Journals book, there's a page in Kurt's own hand talking about his struggles with an cripplingly painful unknown stomach disorder that no doctor could figure out. Lots of appointments, endoscopes and not much hope. "Maybe they'll name it Kurt Cobain disease like they did with Lou Gehrig.", he wrote. Heroin took away the pain, so when he overdosed, he sought out doctors to help. He got a prescription that helped. He was so proud of the fact that he kicked heroin, because the pills worked. He ended up without a refill and felt some very familiar withdrawal symptoms. He looked up what was in the pills and they were opiates and was super depressed that he kicked heroin for just another opiate. He thought, "Fuck it, might as well keep doing heroin."

    I find it so incredible that people that would without fame be considered “bottom of society” or outcasts, be extremely and incredibly intelligent and profound. In this case of course. It’s not everybody, but it goes for everyone considered this not just celebrities and such. Never judge a book by its cover and always treat people like human beings and with respect.

    • @voteZDLR
      @voteZDLR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Yeah it's strange how that works isn't it? Like most people in bands/musicians if they never became successful would probably be looked down on, but because of their success they're instead revered. Even people who don't like their music still respect them. Funny how that works.

    • @codinghusky5196
      @codinghusky5196 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@voteZDLR it's not funny, it's just that people like you - and there's a LOT of you; an overwhelming majority actually - mistake "respecting one's work" for "respecting the person behind the work". And you do that both passively; eg thinking that people respect someone while actually they respect their work.... and actively, by revering a person because of their work. It's a mistake, but a very common mistake.
      Take Marilyn Manson for example. He's a fucking shit human being, a downright criminal, abuser and sex offender. No two ways about that. But no one can take away the fact his success took LOADS of artistic, marketing and other kinds of creativity in addition to LOADS of time spent working his damn ass off to actually get these things DONE. Now MOST people who love his music, actually laugh at the lunatic behind it. But they still buy the music and show at the concerts and so people looking from outside often believe, they respect the PERSON.

      @@wallaceshawn-zk8iw No, schizophrenic means you suffer from the mental illness called schizophrenia, it's a VERY specific thing. It's a diagnosis NOT a symptom.
      The diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia being hallucinations (seeing/hearing/feeling stuff that isn't there), delusions (believing something despite having proof to the contrary), disorganized thoughts (hard to gather your thoughts, trouble speaking clearly or in a way that people understand the message you're trying to convey, etc) and social withdrawal (self explanatory)
      Now, all of these symptoms can present themselves in other conditions, for example Bipolar Disorder, but you would never describe a bipolar person currently suffering from mania induced psychosis as "being schizophrenic today" or well, you might, but it would be 100% incorrect to do so.
      I don't know if this will make it easier to understand, but imagine you have depression caused by bipolar disorder, would you ever say "yeah I have Major Depressive Disorder today" No, you wouldn't.
      Or actually let's move it away from the mental health stuff, let's say you know for sure you have a common cold, so you have a cough, if you were describing your cough would you ever say "Yeah, I'm feeling COVID 19-y today?"

Being able to buy everything online, to work from home, to be alone? This was a dream come true! It's not that I don't like interacting with people (I do. I have close friends and family, and I'm not wildly anti-social) it's just I can only do it in small doses and when I want to and with people I know really well, otherwise it becomes distressing. Daniel Johns of silverchair went through a similar thing to what Jonathan Davis described. He started becoming paranoid that people were going to poison his food, since he had been picked on for years and now was in the spotlight. So it lead to him being anorexic because he felt the only thing he could control was his food intake. He almost died, and he ended up writing Ana's Song (Open Fire) about that struggle. Its a shame that some people have to go through these things

      I used to think ppl would poison my drinks. Idec if u were a female. It could be full, & only a soda. If I didn't have it in my hand, or in eyes view, I didn't want it anymore. That song used to be my jam tho... I've been through phases of not eating as much as I should. But I didn't ever go too far off.

    I think a lot of highly talented people really don't like been around others too much, but still love doing what they do its the same with some actors. I find it myself sometimes. Its not so much people you don't like but its what society makes them. Always focused on money and being better then someone else. People who are naturally kind of introverted just want to stay away from that. Its the world telling you that u will never be good enough if your not really outgoing, which is nonsense.

    My two favorites here:
    Henry Rollins - Beautiful. Perfect answer. State what you want - unapologetically. If it offends ...so be it. Have the courage to be yourself and live life on your terms.
    Pete Steele - I'm right there with you. I have zero interest in the banality of the typical human interaction: the small-talk, the me-my-I-talk, the I-own-this-talk. No thanks. Books, music, isolation.
