I live in The same town as Gaahl. Bergen, Norway. He may seem batshit evil to someone, but He is a straight Edge guy, sometimes i see him walking through town with his boyfriend. He gave me a big smile and said thank you very kindly, his boyfriend also smiled at me and looked very friendly.
I thought he was going to ask for his paycheck - the interviewer wanted him to “guide” him about what questions to ask, so it would have been hilarious if he said “if I’m doing your job for you, I want your money”. But of course he stayed silent because Satan is not funny.
