Can't put my finger on it, but this style of review...I find it so useful. Verge used to (but less so now) have podcasts that had this same "vibe", and after buying a product, I felt that this "style" of review completely succeeded in priming me for my first-person experience. When it comes to syntax, on-the-nose rigor in evaluation is vital. Additionally, so much information is shared in tone, that a genuine response - untethered from fear of lacking rigor - brings so much to the review...for me, at least, : ). I like both, but so often, most reviews are focused solely on rigor.

15:03 I think what you're hearing is the phone applying compression. I've been using a 3XL for ages and you'll notice the top two or three clicks of the volume slider on that one really change the sound as digital compression kicks in. It can make some high-end signal sound distorted, but it's definitely good at bringing up the low-mids. I was hoping they'd keep that for the 6/6pro because I haven't heard of other phones doing that and it's not like a "listed" feature!

    • @cappincronch
      @cappincronch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Newer phones utilize their casings a lot for sound reproduction, especially bass. I've found that my Pixel 6 Pro sounds significantly better without a case on it, but I don't really listen to music with the phone speakers; that's what my Sony WF-1000MX4's are for.

Got to agree about the fingerprint sensors. Just upgraded from the S9 to the S21 Ultra and it's just awkward getting it to unlock using the underscreen one. The S9 was easy, I knew exactly where to put my finger as I picked up the device and if I missed by a tiny bit it was a doddle to adjust to the right spot as I could feel it under my finger. Now I get a half dozen errors because my finger is only partially on the sensor and I have to retry to get a good read. Maybe it'll be easier with muscle memory (it's only a week in at this point) but it's definitely a step backwards in ease of use imo.

I agree with the in screen fingerprint comment! I have the fold 3 (upgraded from Note 9) and having the fingerprint sensor right where the power button is is the MOST ideal spot for it! I can easily take it out of my pocket and unlock it to use my mobile pay and immediately lock and pocket my phone without having to shuffle my hands around it AT ALL.
My dad on the other hand just bought the S21 Ultra and realized his case isn't going to work with the fingerprint sensor and he can't use just any old cheap glass screen protector anymore like he could on his Note 4 because of the fingerprint sensor.
Mobile companies need to scrap the in screen fingerprint sensor and just stick it under the power button. Most likely one of your fingers are going to be there anyways so why change it? Plus it's faster and more reliable. Admittedly I liked the idea of it at first but it seems like too much of a pain to me now. Forget about it and focus on improving something else like minimizing the camera bumps again.

You would buy a phone for such a minor reason? How often does music play and you want to know the name but you can't unlock your phone to use an app to identify it? This seems like an extremely niche reason, never mind the fact that the way it functions is just yet another privacy risk.

My thoughts exactly. Until then, there's always Sony with their full line of phones with no camera notch/hole and a headphone jack. Google, if you keep cutting standard features like a headphone jack, that doesn't mean I'm going to buy your bluetooth earbuds (and then another pair every few years when the battery stops holding a charge), it just means I'm going to buy a different phone.

If you haven't switched yet, take it from someone who ran a Nexus 5X, Pixel 3 and now Pixel 6, it's jarring at first but you get used to it. I prefer it now because it can be used on a flat surface.
You might hear that it's slower than the old one, which might be slightly true, but I find it took a week or so for it to find its stride and get really consistent. Even still, if it's a few milliseconds slower, it's not the biggest deal. People who complain about those microseconds of difference need to stop obsessively taking out and putting away their phone lol. It's perfectly usable.

That's interesting, I'm in a similar boat in thinking the pro isn't really worth the extra cash, but a big part of that reason is because I find all of the colours of the pro so boring. I'll be getting it in 'sorta seafoam', I think it looks awesome. I tend not to use cases!

Yea their pricing team really f'ed up here. I guarantee we'll see deep discounts on the 6 Pro by Black Friday. There is just no way enough people don't jump on the $599 Pixel 6 base model, as the $300 price hike for the Pro is laughable and offers nothing worth that much value to step up to that model. They should have priced it at $750 or $799 at the highest.

Just found your channel and bro your fucking hilarious. Loved this video. Just ordered my Pixel 6 pro yesterday and it'll be here in 2 days. Can't wait for it as I've had every single Pixel phone.

Lol it translated Marie as 馬力 (ma li), literally "horsepower." I guess it still falls short when it comes to context

That's the problem when trying to translate a language that shares same pronounciation with multiple words like Chinese and Japanese, which happens a lot even when native speakers talking face to face. Unless the AI understands the context, this can hardly be solved I guess.

Software toggles are useless for the camera and mic. If your phone's software is compromised then the attacker can use those toggles as well. They need to be hardware toggles that physically cut the power to the component.

But if your phone isn't compromised you can be sure that no app, whether you gave it permission to use the camera at some point or not, can access it while you are, for example in the bathroom.

@@Momi_V It's not a big deal considering all the attacks and leaks have been only on Apple.

The only reason I ever thought of switching to the pixel line is for the finger print sensor on the back because I used to have a s9 and I need to switch and I couldn't live without the back sensor, but it's all good now I have the z flip 3
