    Hey Chaps! Are you impressed by the Pixel 6 Pro? 🤔
    👉 Update: iPhone 13 Pro scores are a bit low - i think it must have been in low power mode (unintentional), should be 1721 / 4523. but my point still stands that the iPhone is clearly still the most powerful phone on the market.

    I have the Pixel 2 XL and have always loved it. My friends are constantly bickering me to switch back to Apple, but Ive really fell in love with my Pixel. Due to no more Upgrades, its time for me to move on from the 2, and hopefully the 6 will be something I fall in love with when Im able to preview one in a store. Thank you for your review! I'm also on the Pixel 2 XL train! I'm actually considering just changing the battery instead of buying the 6 Pro, because it's pretty pricy in Canada and my 2 XL still runs like a charm. Do you feel like the upgrade is worth it?

      No point in it having face unlock anyway unless Google manages to add proper biometrics under the screen, because if they cut out some of the screen for those biometrics (like a certain other phone) I'm pretty sure Android users would have an aneurism given how much they troll over notch designs.

      @@amirtorhan2762 ask yourself why we couldn't have had both on the pixel 4 XL instead of being stuck with only face unlock. It's their choice of what they do with their phone when they develop it. I would say my opinion is face unlock is less secure, annoying in situations, and intrusive in certain situations. Did you know by chance that if you were arrested in the United States and had face unlock on your phone the police do not need a warrant to unlock your phone by using your face. If you have fingerprint unlock on your phone it requires a warrant to unlock your phone for any reason. I'm not saying this fits everyone but to me face unlock is unnecessary and unsafe.

    Hey Tom, enjoy your videos - first time comment! Definitely like the idea of the Pixel 6 Pro. I moved from Huawei Mate 20 to Oppo Find X2 Pro when the google issues surfaced. Currently trying to think about upgrading to a new phone - I'd be interested in a comparison video that looks at the main Android phones at the price point the Pixel 6 Pro is coming out on monthly contracts - e.g. where does the Pixel 6 Pro sit alongside the S21+ and the Oppo Find X3 Pro, the two main premium handsets at the same monthly price as the Pixel 6 Pro. For me the most important features are being waterproof, having a great camera system and long battery life. As interesting as comparisons with the iPhone is, the key comparisons must be against other android phones - switching ecosystems is a VERY big step!

      I am the opposite, work where my hands need gloves so fingerprint is 100% useless and 3D Face-ID is a life saver, the only phone that has this to a biometric security standard. I have a watch so unlocks instantly if wearing a mask. Makes the iPhone a de facto choice and glad Apple has not followed the generic Android pack where there is no secure alternatives.

      @@andyH_England agreed, face id with proper biometrics works best. Finger print unlock drives me up the wall, it's least reliable when its needed most, and thats when in a rush with clammy fingers. Unfortunately full face unlock doesnt exist on Android because if you cut away more of the screen to house the biometrics then Android users throw a wobbly. Never made sense to me, because the notch area on Android os usually taken up by loads of app notification icons instead, often multiple icons per app, and so many that it becomes useless background clutter which gets ignored. Much rather have technology there instead which gets used all the time.

It has also got a slightly better 20 core gpu, but all in all, it's pretty much a slower Exynos 2100 but with another name. I glad that there is no face unlock on Pixels anymore, and expect that can be followed by Android phones in general and soon every smartphone on the market.
    Biometrics in general ARE NOT SECURITY, but convenience! Nothing that users can be physically forced to provide against their will is usable as valid security credentials. Manufacturers need to stop wrongly to sell biometrics as a security innovation like cinema does, because at least cinema has a reason: is entertaining.
    Don't get me wrong: I use the fingerprint scanner of my Pixel to unlock the device. But have full conscience that this don't make my phone safer, so when I go to a less controlled environment I activate my passphrase as a REAL security measure.
    There is nothing wrong with Face unlock itself, is an interesting toy. The problem is advertise it as something that it is not.

    • @tonyhawk123
      @tonyhawk123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Real biometrics, when its implemented fully from sensor to silicon like on iPhones, is not “a toy”. It serves its purpose. For the edge-cases where you're in an interrogation room you have bigger issues to worry about.

      @renascienza.bazarclub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonyhawk123 Yes, is only a toy and a cinema gimmick. And in the iPhone specific case, is a very expensive toy (much more than deserves, because the tech underlying isn't that sophisticated as advertising makes it looks. How I know? Because I'm a software engineer. And why I don't disappointing you even more that you think is possible in that specific matter? Because I'm being gentle and I will not mess with your beliefs about your favorite brand).
      But in more simple argument, you don't need to be on an interrogation room. A burglar can just get your phone and point it to your face. A friend can watch you fall sleep and get your finger to unlock the device. Or anyone.
      Biometrics offer absolutely no security because the resource on which it is based, the body, is a publicly accessible resource. In security slang we call it with a joke as "gunbarrel cryptanalysis", but you don't actually need a weapon to do it when the credentials are biometrics.
      Don't let your love to a brand cloud your judgement about practicality. If you want really secure your device, any device, use a decent passphrase. Isn't something new, isn't "sexy", but is the safer method we know.
      And of you really have an iPhone, keep it ever with yourself, because we already know thanks to a recent chinese competition, it don't endure five minutes suffering a hardware hack.
