Ok, so I'm a little late commenting here, but I just discovered your channel a few days ago. I have to say, you have quickly become my go-to when I'm feeling overwhelmed, which happens on the daily. Readers digest version: About 5 years ago, me and my family moved into my mothers house so I could help her navigate life. She was diagnosed with severe dementia, so she needs constant care. She was also on the verge of being classified as a closet hoarder.......literally. Every cabinet, closet, under beds, everywhere you couldn't see it. Packed tight. Five years later and I'm still working on it. Tackling one cabinet at a time. And, I too, suffer from depression. It's debilitating when it hits hard, so I feel you. I can see it in your eyes. It's all too familiar. My kids are adults now, but this episode hit me in the feels. I used to have the same issues with my kids when they were young. I wish I had the tech we have now, would've changed everything. Here's a thought........may seem whacko, I'm aware......so don't judge me too harshly. How about a camera in that closet? Get notified on your phone every time someone goes in there. AND see what they're doing. It would end the "I didn't do it" thing. And maybe make them a bit more aware that mom is watching, so don't make a mess. Just a thought. Anyway, sorry for the rant. I wish you all the luck and love in the world. You are doing a fantastic job of keeping your home running smoothly AND keeping ME going too. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. All the best to you!! Keep these videos coming. I may not get through this house without you!!
I'm new to your channel and wow you guys are not only adorable together but such a breath of fresh air in your authenticity 😍😍 I entertain myself by having youtube motivation *currently decluttering whilst watching you lol*
“Decluttering paralysis”….boy do I know about that. I walk into my craft room to decluttering, take in how overwhelming it is, freeze for half a minute, and walk back out. Then there are the days, thankfully, when I can tell myself to just pick a small area to start with and go from there, if I can. And usually, I can keep going and make good progress. Love your Team Jesus shirt!
The amount of inventory you home school families manage is huge! So inspiring what you do. When our kids moved out with the games and puzzles and I donated all my catechism teaching stuff I swear our house rose out of the ground. 🙃
Hello Friend: You often mention that it helps to have “less stuff to manage.” This idea has helped me realize I can get rid of items I may still like in service of having less to manage. For example: I love seashells and have a glass bowl with seashells I like. However I do not like having to take them out and individually dust each one and clean the bowl. Nope. So if I get rid of them I don’t have to do that annoying cleaning task! The enjoyment of having certain items doesn’t outweigh the stress of the tasks involved in taking care of them. Thanks for the wisdom! Hugs.😊❤🐦
What a nice motivating decluttering video. I tuned in from the recommendation from Frugal Fit Mom, and her editing your grocery clearance vlog. Wonderful recommend. Nice to meet you, looking forward to your videos.
I listen to background music, but i can't listen to anything I have to concentrate on bc I have to concentrate on the decluttering. The kids sure made a huge mess! Kudos to you for getting it done!
I have a craft closet too. It’s really just for me. Retired. No kids at home. It’s been a huge mess for over a year. Maybe 2. I can’t access my craft supplies so 8m not having much fun. It’s become the place where stuff gets stored temporarily when I don’t know what to do with it. I sometimes call it my “Monica” closet. (Friends reference.) Ugh! It was made worse when we had carpet professionally cleaned and 8 was forced to finally deal with the piles of stuff in my mother’s bedroom. Her room is mostly organized - but some of her stuff got stashed here. And, I liked making junk journals - so I stashed journal fodder here. I tried to limit the fodder to one bin…. But, I broke that rule. I’m determined to get it cleaned, decluttered, organized before this month ends! Thanks for posting this. I’m inspired. 👍🏼❤️👍🏼
Hon, as someone who struggles with chronic disease nobody sees, I really enjoy your videos. I don’t struggle with depression, rather really debilitating pain. Only those who know me intimately can even tell I’m in pain most of the time. Little things like extra blinks, wincing, etc. Nobody really understands in my circles. My parents got to see an attack in person recently, and it really freaked my dad out. I try to shield my kids from it as much as I can, but I feel I’m putting a lot of responsibilities on them because of my health. Thanks for your encouragement!
I can relate to this in so many ways. I am sorry you are in so much pain. On the hard days I have to remind myself even though I am not "momming" the way I want to be... I am doing my best and I know my kids will see that when they are older.
Way to go YOU!!!!!! I would put an old fashion Master Combo lock at your eye level on that door. It comes with a key so you can change the combo when you need to and if you put it up high it makes it harder for little kids to use it. But that would be for my own sanity. LOL
I love your approach AND honesty while you de- clutter! When I accept mulish a lot in my home I tell my husband “ I feel so domestic !” . I usually feel that when I’m canning and prepping in the kitchen though. De- cluttering might need its own term! I thought I’d leave you with a tip I use. I have a rind plastic container that you can see through were I put game pieces. Pieces from old games or games we still have. They’re great for learning tools, making a new game or substitutions for game with missing pieces. I also have a jewelry hanger( on clearance after Christmas) to put things that I just know are important but can’t remember what they’re for! Sometimes it’s packaging parts that get thrown away and sometimes it’s the little screw from somebody’s battery toy!
So... its Saturday afternoon... I was just looking for a video to listen 2/watch bc I am working on my Craft pantry... SO GALD I FOUND THIS!! I'm finally tackling mine AFTER I BOUGHT A SHIT TON on new organization bins/container... 😌 When I am doing housework I ALWAYS listen to something like ur video OR True Crime... Im still obsessed with the Watts Family Murders...
Kudos Shannon! 💜 Good job! agree with if you can’t see it then it’s useless. I’m trying to go through all the cabinets and closets in my house to point that if I open it I can see everything I have at a glance without digging through it! 💜 Good idea with the rubber bands on the games. I’ve also taped the corners of boxes with packing tape before they get torn because they will get torn it’s inevitable!! 🤪 I did that with books too, taped the binding. I have lots of packing tape in hand. 👍👍👍
Also thanks for the inspiration! The littles came over for the a sleepover and then two other days I watched the twins , 2 year olds and I never made them clean up the playroom before they left and it’s a disaster! I will be doing that project soon!
We have a wooden bread box that is still on my shelf months later. I know it's my husband's project with our daughter. I imagine going shopping for us after taking everything out and cleaning up. Coming up with an organization system works until our family members go looking for something or putting it away.
FANTASTIC! Tiny suggestion? Tuck the lids of the shoe boxes underneath and it really does become as easy to put things away as to put them down for later. My term for the relief after decluttering is #breathingfree :). All the best!
I do the SAME thing!! I make a mess decluttering. The kids make it a bigger mess all over the house, and I end up on the phone with my mom in tears. 🤦🏼♀️ but it works out in the end. But so aggravating when it happens.
Finally a real declutter video that doesn’t have all those expensive baskets and container store crap in it that nobody can afford for real….. thank you 💜 it!
This video really helped me. I often get the same way. You are inspiring to me. I have a hard time getting through stuff when it gets to a certain point. You’ve shown me that I am capable of pushing through and getting it done.

What you feel you may need to keep today in 4 months you might find silly that you kept My mom had hook and eye catches in the door and door Frame near the top of the door that adults can reach but kids on step stools can't. It worked nice to keep us kids out but allow adults to enter at need
We have a ton of art stuff. But we keep a little three shelf cart for the kids regularly used items. I have 3 kids so they each get a shelf. If they want a different item from our craft area. I ask them to at least put it back on the cart if they simply can not be bothered putting it where it belongs, then I sort through the cart every so often. They love throwing things into one place instead of putting them away. So it helps out here. I use the same idea with stair baskets. The stuff they bring down gets thrown in there and when their baskets are full. They go put them away. I'm a single mom and out numbered.
