Nexus 6 vs OnePlus One - Dogfight!

  • The Nexus 6 and OnePlus One are two incredibly powerful Android smartphones on the market and both of them go after the Android enthusiasts, but which is top dog? Well the Nexus 6 is certainly the more favored device by Google, running their latest software Android 5.0 Lollipop, but it might be too expensive. Costing as much as other flagships do, its not the same Nexus device we saw last year with the Nexus 5. On the side of the OnePlus One, it is the Android customizer's dream phone with stock options being interchangeable without rooting. It also runs a skin called Cyanogenmod which is preferable to many Android users with custom ROMs available.

    OnePlus One has no flaws other than OnePlus Customer Service and certain units that people have issues with. Amazing all around

      I would be surprised if they didn't have any units with problems. All phone manufacturer's experience a bad batch from time to time but customer service really needs to improve and that would be awesome.

      the gps has some issues. and the touch screen drivers still need a bit of work.
      besides that, it's pretty amazing.

      Yannick Wolfe my touch screen was shit in August but with the latest drivers it's on par with my brother's Nexus 5 and I couldn't be more happier and the GPS issues probably don't bother me cause I keep it off or on battery saving.

      Touchscreen as improved a lot, that's for sure. As for the GPS, it's still an issue so it's not a perfect phone :)

    I have a lollipop build on my one plus and it is a beast..super fast, 6 to 7 hours of screen time ..easily lasts an average user 2 days, apower user 1 1/2 days..Add in the cost difference and its a no brainer..I was hoping for so much more with the latest nexus devices,but I am disappointed .

      Yeah but eventually one could put cyanogenmod on the nexus 6 or better yet eventually hopefully get xposed to work. The one plus is great, but media consumption is unmatched imo. after hearing the front facing stereo speakers on the nexus 6 I don't know if I could go back to rear firing ever again. Top that off with a qhd screen you got one hell of a video streaming experience. It's not the best display, but it might be second best. It might not be the best speakers but it's probably second best also. But the point is that it has both a big beautiful crystal clear display with stereo front facing speakers. I also just like the look of the nexus 6 more. The nexus 6 is top notch. The oneplus one by far has better value, but I still see the nexus 6 as being superior. Software problems are fixable on n6 but you can't change the hardware of the opo.

    I don't know how the nexus 6 wins this dogfight. It has worse battery life, mediocre 2k display compared to others and is just flat out ugly billboard on the back of it. Only thing nexus 6 has better is camera. doesn't matter about lollipop opo will have it in few weeks

      Actually the nexus 6 last about 32 hours normally! It's display is one of the best on the market! Not sure where you got that info! The display is the same amoled Samsung use being that's who makes the display:) nothing mediocre there! If you one who keeps your brightness down you can get 5 hours on screen time, me I keep mines on auto, so what you got 30 minutes more screen on, not a big deal lol. What device you own? Have you used either of these?

    • @alexpapas99
      @alexpapas99 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    One thing I'm curious about is the ring "flash" that the Nexus 6 has. this could be really good for macro photography *if* the minimum distance to the phone (while retaining focus) is small enough...
    I have bought the opo along with a protective case to dissipate the impact in case I accidently drop it face down.

    I've had the oneplus, and sold it. Cyanogenmod was buggy enough to make the experience not worth it, though I loved the customization. So unless you are a developer, I'd go with stock lollipop, solid as a rock.

    Oneplus One clearly wins.
    Today I say that we don't need 2k displays I perfectly enjoy every video that I watch on my Oneplus one, I'm not able to see any pixel, I think 2k it's marketing, also the nexus 6 display is a cheap version of an amoled display as some units are presenting burning marks.
    Oneplus one has a better battery life and the DCI 4k option is awesome!.
    Also the size is perfect for my hands 6 inches are crazy!
    Nowadays invites aren't hard to get, you can even buy the phone witouth an invite!

    • @25eazi
      @25eazi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you say 6 inches is big, the one plus is only sneakers by an hair lol. There had been no burn issues with the nexus 6 screen and FYI companies tend to get their displays from the same manufactures (amoled displays/Samsung) note 4 camera wasn't in the top ten foot smartphone cameras! The only android services that made it on DXoMark are the, z3, z2, S5, nexus 6! By the way all these smartphone use sonu sensors for the camera as well:)

      kareem williams sorry man but it really make the diference on handling one hand or two hands, one plus one are on the edge of an one hand used phone, nexus 6 are on the 2 hands territory! so 5,.5 inches turns out to be the best of two worlds, gret display to enjoy your phone, and gret phone size to still hanlde it one hand! sorry for my bad english

    Both are amazing. However the one plus one I would say is a dead tie with the nexus when running lollipop. I have a cyanogen nightly mod running and it is flat out fast. Completely outperformed my moto x 2014. Which was faster when running the cyanogen mod 11s from the factory. Expect huge performance increase with lollipop

    I bought my OPO through an invite 3 months ago just as I was about to give up on getting one. I am really happy with the phone and I have no intention of upgrading again for at least a couple of years. Does everything good enough without any issues that are a turn off which is what I want. I believe if a phone is great in one field and lacking in another field this is not a good phone but the OPO is not one of these phones

    OnePlus support almost non existing...i have with random reboot and then developed issues with my mic not working. This is now ongoing for 2 months ...OnePlus will not reply to my support emails...2. they dont want to replace my handset....4. they will close your ticket as solved without solving the problem. 5. i had to open a paypal case which made them to offer me a replacement. Owned phone since Aug 2014, only used it for 2 months...been trying to recover my money and replacement since. Would I want a replacement after the service from support? No....so now they dont want to give refund hence paypal chasing them.
    Major major issue with support. Got more important things to sort out than to chase OnePlus support for stuff like these

    OnePlus One wins easily... I have one and screen scharpness is the same as nexus 6 (you cant see a difference above 300 ppi so why even bother?!) the onplus one is user friendly, if you don't want to tweak you can easily use the exact same way as the nexus... Specs are the same because the nexus needs more processor and battery for its larger and higher resolution screen... And yes nexus gets fast updates and it has software that is build specifically for the device but so does oneplus one, they only have one phone right now and updates have been perfect and software is perfectly optimized... oh and the onplus is like 2 times cheaper ... I'm really disappointed in the nexus, i thought they would try to compete against the onplus making a good cheap phone but nope, they fucked up...

      Seeing a difference over 300~PPI is all about the distance you hold it from your eyes, remember.
      A 40" 1080p screen looks great at 30ft away, but get closer and nope.
      Just a factor to bear in mind.

    • @lennertbontinck
      @lennertbontinck 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jackr88 if i'm not wrong, on a 300 ppi plus screen pixels aren't visible no matter how close you hold the object to your face... you would need a magnifier of some sort to spot pixels...

    • @Spyder0275
      @Spyder0275 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lennertbontinck you are wrong, that 300ppi number is taking into consideration that most people won't have their smart phone inches from their face. But if you do this, you can start to see pixels, especially on some amoled with pentile matrix displays.

    If you think about it they are really in an eternal tie. This is all due to the cyanogen mod that is really available on any new android phone this also means the Nexus 6 because with super user access you really can do anything on your android device this includes changing the pixels for battery life or even running a different kernel the only con on the nexus 6 would be that u have to install cyanogen mod manually and the difference between the two phones would be the design and generally the way the person uses it and the look and feel of it then again that's my opinion

    I've tried both of these awesome devices. The Nexus is my favorite because of the simplicity and overall compatibility with my other devices (i.e. my TV, watch, car). The Oneplus is great being able to choose everything and the awesome feel of the phone. I just wish the price for the Nexus was lower and the back had a better grip. I guess it just depends on preference.

    Ex-Nexus fanboy here. I bought a new Nexus 6 and in less than 2 weeks of use it developed obvious burn in on the top and bottom of the screen. Sold it quick before it lost it value and picked back up my OPO and it is clearly the better phone overall, especially since the Nexus 6 is twice the price. Aside from CyanogenMod and the mediocre camera on the OPO, its an amazing phone.

  • @InstantReplay

    You're all missing the point. Even if the Nexus 'wins' this entirely subjective battle, it is by increments at most. Are you all really willing to put up an extra £2-300 for those most minute of improvements? However you justify it, ignoring the OnePlus One in favour of the bloated, expensive flagships absolutely baffles.

  • @KryotGG

    The only couple things oneplus one is losing to is specs and camera, but screen opo is better. Nexus 6 is known for terrible colors when you change brightness down or up too high. Software almost same just a little more features in OPO. Only the cpu/gpu is what makes nexus win... Battery life on Oneplus one is too good.. I got 6 hours on screen time twice with 20% charge left.

    There's no huge difference in the display upon viewing, but yet you sacrifice a ton of battery life for it. The performance is just as fast on the OnePlus One for half the price of that Nexus, and I honestly think the design of the Nexus is terrible. I loved the Nexus 4 when LG designed it. The OnePlus One is a very nice and sleek phone, and you just simply cannot beat the price.

    I'd say the real winner here is the nexus 6 running cyanogenmod lollypop. Also, I always choose phones because they have oled, the concept that this is worse for the oled is retarded. The blacks are absolute black, the colors fly off the screen, and the power usage is better for most applications. The only thing lacking is brightness, which isn't a problem for most unless you use your phone in daylight more often than inside. Either way, both are great phones, and i love cyanogenmod, but I'm found with the nexus. Stereo speakers, clever led indicator placement (after you unlock it), oled, quad hd - this sucker is fully loaded. I do wish it had a replaceable battery, but it does have turbo charging.

    Guys, I'm going to get a new phone in roughly 6-7 months (lol!) should I buy the OnePlusOne or is there a likely chance that the 'OnePlusTwo' will be out?
    Cheers !

      I think I'll wait till around Christmas to get the phone which means I'll have enough time to read some reviews and make my final judgment on whether I'll order it or not.
      And thanks again, I was about to succumb to the iPhone trap x'D

    OnePlus does not back up warranties at all. I have a phone with a defective handset mic that is a common issue. They are of ZERO help. DO NOT BUY FROM ONEPLUS! They do not take care of their customers.

    Sorry Jennifer but your obsession with the the Oneplus One, is showing. You think that a phone that next to no one can get can be as good as the latest offering from Google? No way! I don't have a Nexus 6, but I know technology well enough to know that the Nexus 6, if it were a dog would piss all over the Oneplus One, and it would expect the Oppo derivative to clean up after it. Just because you bought the Oneplus One with your own money, doesn’t mean you can ignore the fact that it's actually not that good of a phone.

    So far I've been disappointed in what I've seen of the Nexus 6. Outside of Lollipop, there's nothing special about this big phone. Think I'm going to just wait and get the HTC One M9 (If that's what it's going to be called).
