      Phablets were really weird back then, especially with the bezels. Held one myself and it's really too big compared to the big screen phones we have in 2024. Sad to see small form factor phones losing charm though.

    ******** reviews the Nexus 6*
    Here's another Nexus 6 review from someone I trust when it comes to mobile tech. The Nexus 6 isn't perfect, but no phone is perfect. I'm confident that any little issues that exist such as random jank or battery life can be improved with software updates. As for the video, it's long, but it's worth the watch. Marques does an amazing job as always.
    My Nexus 6 hasn't shipped yet... hopefully this week. I can't wait to put it through the paces, review it, and compare it to my Moto X 2014. To me, the Moto X is perfect, so it's going to be a fun comparison and ultimately a hard decision when it comes to picking my final daily driver.

      ***** after running Lollipop on my Nexus 5, both the second preview and the final version, I've found that there is a lot of jitterness initially.
      That jitterness can be handled by rebooting the phone. And this process needs to be done 4-5 times. As in whenever the phone feels janky, reboot it. Overtime everything is fine. No need to reboot.
      I've no explanation for this but this is just my observation.

Such talent, camera fluency, objectivity, sharpness, affable presentation and clever in-a-nutshell choice of review topics is usually coming from veteran TV journalists... and now here it's coming from an amateur 20-year-old who's not even a journalist! I honestly haven't found a phone that I like enough to part with this. Big screen, front facing stereo speakers... what more do you need considering it's a phone.
    Maybe it's the fact it's the first phone I bought at full price and 600 quid isn't something I just throw away after a couple of years. Maybe it's the combination of the device, Cyanogenmod and xposed means I have my phone looking and running exactly how I want it.

    Good review but he got 2 things wrong.
    1. Nexus 6 doesn't have the camera sensor from the Moto X. It actually has a newer Sony sensor which is also used in OnePlus One.
    2. The performance is not up to the par not only because of the 2k display but also for the fact that it has default device encryption from the first boot itself.

    @LandsoulFFXI 9 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    I don't really understand why they need to move to QHD if its gonna compromise the battery. According to Google the human eye can't see pixels above 350 PPI. Note 3 is 1080p @ 386 PPI which is above the 350 mark. The nexus 6 has nearly 500 PPI which is ridiculous high pixel density, if you ask me they technology is not yet ready for QHD it suffocates the battery for hardly any better in return, how about we start improving our battery technology instead?

    • @alisw81
      @alisw81 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Wrong, the human eye can see pixels up to 500p+ and we are just now hitting that mark. And as it was stated in the video QHD will get better, but we are still in the first generation of QHD displays just like how 1080p caused devices to suffer when it was first implemented. With the shift to 64bit processors, the QHD drain will decrease and future phones will be able to handle them better.

    • @juffurey
      @juffurey 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ukko Clap it all depends on how close the screen is to your eyes. every person has a different arm length and different habits for using their phones. of course you can easily see pixels in 350ppi if you put your eye an inch from the screen.

    • @alisw81
      @alisw81 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** 1080p is not good enough. YOU may not be able to notice the difference but plenty of others can, including myself. QHD is the new standard 1080 will start replacing 720p, and QHD will move into 1080's spot.

    • @alisw81
      @alisw81 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Nope, I never actively search for anything. Plenty of people notice the difference in everyday use. If you want 1080p for the next couple of years then that's fine. Just don't try to drag everyone else with you.

    • @alisw81
      @alisw81 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quannix Rainbowaxe Told you already the trad-offs will be fixed as the tech evolves same thing that happened with 1080p. Technology can't stay stagnant.......if it does the industry will die. They need to keep pushing the boundaries to see what can become reality. I find the fact that you seem to want stagnation to happen extremely concerning.

      I recently started following him and this was the first video of his I watched, so I could be missing it, but I didn't recognize what I would call disappointment. In fact, he said he's going to use it as his daily driver, and if a reviewer was disappointed in a device, do you think they'd do that?
      He pretty much said that as qhd devices go, the only thing better was the Note 4.

      J Agnew his overall delivery wasn't as before. His facial expressions betrayed him. Keith ! it's not only him. The overall viewpoint from other reviewers is one of a let down...and at that price I'm not accepting that. If I'm moving from my OPO it has to be something significantly better and I'm not getting that with this device.

    Yeah, nexus 6 is a mistake. QHD should not be pushed yet. We don't have CPU that's efficient enough to handle it yet. Because 805 is just a minor spec bump from 801 and 800, combined with QHD, the performance ends up about equal with 800/801 and 1080p.
    And also, the trend of bigger phone needs to stop. It's a phone. You should be able to put it in your pocket and handle phone call without looking awkward. Do you want larger screen for media consumption? Get a tablet.

      I'm very curious to see what the total sales numbers are after the holidays. Seems a small US population niche vs larger international (based upon current hardware acceptance). I sit in that, assumedly, smaller US pop who wants the larger screen, never bought into a separate tablet, comfortable with the $, and patient for OS improvement impacts on battery, camera, other features. (my N5 performance in these areas has improved dramatically since my purchase in 2013). The one thing I will say, which I was surprised about, was that experience of a device getting better over time. Like buying car and it appreciating off the lot. It's all attributed to android updates and their impact on features and it is what helps solidify the deal for me. BUT, again, I'm a niche audience, and I am very curious what the large phone consumer demand turns out to be after holidays.

    I love MKBHD's videos, but he forgets to mention HOW he uses his phone daily. On Twitter, Marquee mentioned that he tends to have his phones brightness at 75% - Full brightness, plus the fact that he (Almost) religiously has his phone using LTE at all times. This means that he's REALLY pushing his phone to the limit, meaning that he's technically a very heavy user. I believe this is something he should mention since this puts on a different perspective on how he determines battery life on all the phones he reviews. Overall a really in depth review, Marquees video making skills and great knowledge of what he's reviewing, as always, is top quality.

    • @mirsec0088
      @mirsec0088 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Michael G Well, I personally like stock android better than skinned versions of android, so that already puts the nexus ahead for me. Another thing I like about this device is stability (no app crashes, zero lag, etc.). And one last factor for me was developer support, and control over my device, and the nexus does just that. I don't have to worry about a buggy version of android (like touchwiz) being stuck on my device, I always have the ability to flash ROMS and remove bloatware and lag on this device, which makes makes things much easier for me. However, this phone isn't perfect. It's HUGE, and it needs improvement hardware wise. They could have went with a smaller resolution screen to increase battery life, and they also could have improved the camera a bit. Also, I like the front facing speakers on the nexus (I know I could have gotten an HTC M9 for the speakers, but that fucker gets hot, and I'm not a fan of HTC sense). Other than that, I like it much better than my S4.

    • @mahutloz
      @mahutloz 9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      That just makes so much sense.... It's not that u r fixing microscopes on your eyes to see pixels on a 720p display.... Normal eyes see no pixels on a 720p small screen phone...

    • @Ignas359
      @Ignas359 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Mahut Loz That's bullshit. My S3 is 720p at 4.7" and I can see the pixels clearly. It is a pentile panel, so maybe that makes them a little more visible than they would be if it were an RGB panel, but still. Plus it's not even about you seeing the pixels if you look very closely, the image on a high PPI screen is significantly sharper even from a distance.

    • @alisw81
      @alisw81 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mahut Loz Some people want the absolute worst you can offer them, which doesn't make alot of sense IMO. Why do you guys make it sound like the Nexus 5 was the perfect phone at an affordable price? It really came with a lot of shortcomings to meet that budget price. Poor camera, especially at launch, poorer quality screen compared to the LG G2, ridiculously small battery, much smaller than the G2, & no 64gb option. The Nexus 6 is the first Nexus to have a good camera review at launch, it's not the best on the market, but the best for any Nexus and all the other shortcomings the 5 had was improved drastically so you need to stop bitching about the price. This ain't no budget phone.

    • @adam-uk9wp
      @adam-uk9wp 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Leandro Jack
      it came out with bugs that were fixed by updates, and its "poor camera" wasnt even that bad, yes it wasnt the great but for a $349 smartphone it rivaled phones that were $650-$750 so thats why i make it sound like n5 was the perfect phone because when u factor in its price and capability in contrast to other phones that cost 2x it seems like the perfect phone unfortunately

    • @LeandroJack
      @LeandroJack 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Resh But at the end of the day it had a lot of shortcomings which attributed to the price being cheap. The only phone that really came without those shortcoming and was affordable was the One Plus one. The Nexus 6 can match every flagship in every category, why should it cost $350? It even outshines the flagship it was made from which is the Moto X 2014 in every category. That's the first time a Nexus is better than it's OEM flagship minus the software.

    • @adam-uk9wp
      @adam-uk9wp 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Leandro Jack
      if by end of the day you mean today then no it doesnt but on its initial release it did sure but so does literally every product on its debut. say the n5 is $349 [which it is] and the s5/i6/n6 were $349 whichi is half of their actual price then divide everything about that phone by 2 then comprae the 2 the n5 would demolish it.

      I have an S4, and thinking of buyin the N6, how is the phone compared to the S4, battery life, camera and software and how is it in the hands? Is the screen noticable better than the S4? I've had my S4 for almost 2 years now. ( 1 year and 5 months.

    • @anthonycollins756
      @anthonycollins756 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery life last longer the camera is great for it only being 13 megapixels you have lollipop while the s4 is still running on kit Kat since the screen is 6 inches its takes getting used to because the screen is 1.1 inches bigger but it won't be a problem if you have big hands like me the colors are more sharp and its a full 1080p but I think its easier to work and its a full google flagship fone

    • @SlipknotMaggot0526
      @SlipknotMaggot0526 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Calis krit I can't really give a comparison to the S4 as I haven't used the S4. It's a whole lot better than my S3 was though! Camera is pretty good, probably not the best out there. It's really smooth and fast as far as software. As for the battery, i'm not too sure because I always end up playing games lol. But I've put it on battery saver and used it more lightly and it could probably last 2 days. It would be higher than 90% after like 8-9 hours still. I don't mind it running down real fast when I don't need it to last because it comes with the rapid charger and charges fully in a little over an hour.

      I'd disagree. I've had the Note 2 running AOSP, Note 3 Dev edition running AOSP, and my Note 4 currently stock and my Note 4 is faster than both. Not much faster than the Note 3 and there are small parts where the Note 3 out performs but that's to be expected. If you don't believe me I'll be having a comparison video myself on my channel eventually so people stop acting like touchwiz is the plague.
      Every phone has lag somewhere, even if rarely. And I use a lot of phones myself, none are perfect. Not a Nexus, iPhone, Samsung, Lg, whatever else. That's why you never see a phone with a perfect 10/10 review. Steve Bruce

      +Lorenzo Franciosi I think it is often called a smart duster but I've always called it a cat's tail. Microfiber cloths and antistatic spray is also good for keeping electronics shiny.

      Yea but the budget 100 puhone would likely have the smaller aspect ratio

    Also das Rutschen is mir auch aufgefallen. Man kann das hoffentlich mit ner Schutzhülle korrigieren. Lege mein N5 auch immer auf den Tisch und schreibe dann und es rutscht auch nicht und dreht sich wild umher :D
    Ich mein es ist einfach ein großes Moto X mit Stock Android ...Mit nem großen Akku, der aber die vielen Pixel auf dem Quad HD Display nicht genügend versorgen kann, wie er schon sagte.
    Im Endeffekt liegt mir darin kein Mehrwert es mir zu holen und ich bleibe beim "guten alten N5"...
    Auf jeden Fall eins der besten Reviews *****

    Just purchase the Nexus 6 for the wife and I literally hours ago and I am super excited to finally get my hands on it. Hopefully, this phone will last me at least 3-4 years just like my HTC One-X did.

      @Max It's not a bug. TH-cam considers date and month along with years to determine how many years has passed. So until we reach 15 Nov 2021 it'll remain in 6 years, which technically makes sense because we are only 6 years and 7 months into the future since this video came out.

    I rather keep my Note 4. Yes I still have to put up with Touchwiz freezing and eating frames every now and then, but camera, battery life, features and build are worth putting up with the occasional hiccup.

      God damn it with these type people.
      There couple way to remove bloatwere.
      1.Disable them
      2.Root phone and uninstall the bloatwere.
      3. install custom ROM

      ***** I'm a wiz at debloating, rooting and customizing. But in my 4+ year experience in this custom ROMs are always buggy (at least buggier than stock)
      Besides, there's currently only about 3 usable Note 4 ROMs so once again, I'm OK with putting up. With some compromises

    This was my favourite phone for years. I think it was the first big screen flagship phone. Lol now it it considered a real small display in 2022.
