    I'm a Nexus user and I swear by Nexus' stock Android after being left out in the cold by few OEMs lack of updates. But really, Google blew it up by going to 6" without any reasoning to it to make it sense. For those reasons, I think that the Moto X 2014 is currently THE phone to get right now.

    • @Tankitson
      @Tankitson 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moto X 2014 is overpriced, with the same capacity of Nexus 5 battery, same CPU/GPU architecture (slightly overclocked but no difference) and no expandable storage. Why get a overpriced Moto X 2014 if you can get the same specs for half the price with Nexus 5?
      Nexus 5 is line in specs with many other 2014 flagship phones, pretty much almost all flagship (S5/M8/G3/Z2 and Z3) all have the same CPU/GPU architecture except 1 more gig of ram and Note 4.
      Nexus 5 is still a 2014 phone, half the price and I'd rather not waste £600 for a bigger battery (Z3/Note 4 etc) as we have less than 2 years left to see new a battery technology.

    • @TommyCrosby
      @TommyCrosby 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Infero well, you get some nice additions for the price like the best build quality, water resistance, a slightly better camera that shoot 4K and a front firing speaker. You can also get MotoMaker if you live in a country where it's available. It's certainly not the best deal for an additional $200 but still a better phone, specially if you are on contract.
      The best part is that you get a 5.2" Nexus 6 (sans stereo speakers).

      @@s_aku @saku Cor blimey! Why are you replying to my 6 year old comment?
      How's your Nexus 6 holding? Few months after writing that comment, my stupid past self will make the stupid assumption that it would be a great idea to buy a Galaxy Note 4 thinking it would have good rom support because it shared the same basic specs as the Nexus 6...

    My Nexus 6 doesn't have the pink tone, and you guys should mess around with the device before you keep pushing this type of statement out. Some people believe EVERYTHING you all post.

    • @StrickenWithFear
      @StrickenWithFear 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That because not all models are always the same. Also you shouldn't have to mess with it to make it look good, it should automatically do that.

    • @smartphoneconversations
      @smartphoneconversations 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      StrickenWithFear That's just my point. I did nothing to mine, and it doesn't have the pink tint to it. They are posting things like this, and some people believe it right away. THEIR unit is like that, not ALL.

    • @StrickenWithFear
      @StrickenWithFear 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I agree that they should make that distinction but as a smart human being (which I hope their viewers are) we should all know when to take things to heart or find out things for ourselves. Though the nexus six does have other screen issues. Have you heard of Erica Griffin? Her latest video has the other issue that Nexus six seems to have.

    • @smartphoneconversations
      @smartphoneconversations 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      StrickenWithFear I review phones, several per week. I'm not like these guys, they all have loaner units and their reviews show as such. I know who she is, and like I said...that's just her unit. But to your point about 'smart human beings' that remains to be seen on the internet, just not there yet. Lots of times, people watch a review because they want the device, have the device and want to see praise for what they just purchased, or just want tips and tricks. But I think most of the 'bigger' blog sites like this one (which I visit daily), just send out the wrong messages some times. They use these devices for a short time, have an issue, then come back on the internet and say this is something YOU will go through as well. Which is just not true. I'm not paid by anyone, nor sponsored as either. So I can give a review about a product, and not worry about if I'm gonna get another free review unit to hold for a week or two (which I love). Not bashing pocketnow, because I like them, but they really need to check some of the things they post. I have an issue with cloud print, and chrome on my Nexus 6, which I talk about in my review. But I didn't get online and say that, this is an issue for the device. I say it's my issues, and if you have it this is what you can do. There is a difference.

    • @StrickenWithFear
      @StrickenWithFear 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I understand what you're commenting and I agree that they should put a distinction that it was their unit and not everyone's unit will look like that.

    I'm content with my nexus 5, I'm not ready to take the leap into phablets.
    Plus I have a dirt cheap contract.

      Liam Jaffray getting used to the size is one thing, but _wanting_ to use a device that large is another. I don't want to encourage the mentality among OEMs that bigger is better. I still hope that devices around 5" (or a bit more) will remain the common size moving forward. We've literally reached the limit when it comes to display size for smartphones. Any large and we'll be in tablet territory. It's time OEMs make a decision for the size of their future smartphones.

    As much as I love my Nexus 5, I can't stress enough how much I hate the battery life. It rarely gets past 2,5h of SoT after half a year of usage. And it's gotten even worse with lollipop update, sometimes I can't even achieve 2h mark. And it started to bug down a little - while escaping some apps, the launcher needs to reload. Does anyone else have similar problems?

    • @MrMoo575

      Exactly the same issues. My phone has crashed more time with 2 weeks of lollipop than it did with 11 months of kitkat. Battery life is awful too.

    Pocketnow *****
    I bought my nexus 6 a few days ago but decided to return it because i noticed that the display boasted an uneven color tone. The top half has a warmer tint to it, whereas the bottom half was a cooler tint.
    Seems like I'm not the only one who's had such an issue. Others have reported similiar complaints on forums online.
    And it also looks like Michaels device has the same issue (I may be wrong because of the angle at which i'm examining the device). Pausing the video at 8:35 i can see the same discoloring issue there.
    Anyone else notice this?

    Have you watched Erica Griffin video on how her Nexus 6 already has screen burn and she hardly uses the phone. That's really not on Mr Fisher...

  • @GeorgeS1
    @GeorgeS1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok I just want to make an updated comment because I feel its important and I am not one to deny issues when they occur. I said in my previous comment last month that I was having zero burn in issues. The whole time ive owned the phone ive been using screen burn in tool from the play store to try and detect burn in and its shown nothing. A guy responded to my last comment saying he didnt think there was burn-in until he tested it using the amoled burn-in fixer app from the play store to test for burn-in. I replied saying I used screen burn-in tool and saw nothing. After making that reply I decided to try out the app he said because I was curious to see what that showed and I was expecting it to show nothing. I found out from using that app that there was actually some navigation bar burn in. That disappointed me quite a bit but I decided to just use the same app to try and fix it and after ten minutes of using the apps built-in fixing tool the burn in is completely gone. So if you have a nexus 6 already and you do not think you have any burn in please use the amoled burn-in fixer app to test for it and of there is in fact burn in use the same app to try and fix it. Other than the burn-in I have had no issues with the phone the thing about the pink tint is the same from last month. It only happens when adaptive brightness is on.

    I just got my nexus 6 on Monday and originally when I turned the brightness all
    the way down I was getting that pink tint but as soon as I disabled adaptive brightness it was gone. I haven't had any issues with that since. Also the screen burn in issues Erica griffin talked about on her channrl aren't happening to me. I use the phone a lot and I've been checking at least twice a day for burn in and nothing so far. Finally as far as the battery I'm getting 5 and a half hours of screen on time. That's amazing coming from a galaxy s4 which got at most 3 hours on time. I have disabled forced encryption on my nexus 6 and I'm running a custom ROM that's pretty much stock with a few added features (no battery tweaks) so that may have something to do with it but either way I'm not complaining

    • @GeorgeS1
      @GeorgeS1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Robles I have had this phone for two months now and I've used screen burn in tool many many times to check and see of there's any burn in. There is 0 burn in on my nexus 6. 0. I don't know why others are getting it but I'm not getting it at all on mine

    • @GeorgeS1
      @GeorgeS1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Robles ok i 100% take back what i said. I decided to use the app you said because I just wanted to see and it showed slight navigation bar burn in. I dont know why it didnt show in the other app i used. Luckily i set it to invert colors and I set the app to just show the navigation bar and after 10 minutes the burn in is completley gone. I'm not happy that the burn in occurs but im happy that its at least an easy fix

    If you have Jump from T-Mobile and use the yearly upgrades, as long as you haven't destroyed your previous phone, you can essentially get a phone at half-price with yearly upgrades, because you pay off only half of the previous phone and trade in the previous phone for the other half. It is awesome, I'm doing this with my S5, and upgrading to a Nexus 6.

    Nexus 6 just makes no sense at 650$ price. Just doesn't. It is not 300$ dollar better phone than 5, and when compared to other 600-700$ phones like Sony Z3 or LG G3 or iPhone 6 it is just ugly and lacks some pretty humble but basic features like: FM radio (is that so hard to put in a phone ok cutting corners for 350$ but for 650$? really?) better dialer, dialer on a lollipop is just not smooth like on lets say a HTC, do it is better than on kitkat, better camera, why a mediocre one, Sony, Apple and LG made small masterpieces for that kind of money, and I know that phones that come with your phone are usually not that good but is it so hard to put a set of some mediocre ear buds wit it, this is not a budget phone anymore. Why is Nexus 6 any better than its main rivals other than huge screen? It just isn't 200-400 MHz difference just mean nothing when all of them work well, plus its not bug free because it does have hangups here and there.

      Double the price doesn't mean double the speed. I was thinking about getting a new phone and tablet and realized I have both now and use my tablet when my phone is charging only. But now I came to the concluded that a nexus 6 is could be both my phone and tablet. So $650 is a reasonable price and a note 4 is more than $650. Which to me makes sense paying $650

    • @LV-oh1jg
      @LV-oh1jg 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      pdot04 The Nexus 6 can not replace a tablet for me. In my opinion, the utility of a tablet lies in the huge bump in battery life, which I don't see in the nexus 6. Besides going through the struggle of putting a phablet in my pockets on a daily basis is something I'd rather avoid.

    • @superroboted

      And you think the iPhone 6 Plus price is any better? All you get is (finally) a 1080p IPS-Display, 8 MP camera, dual-core processor, for $849. That isn't even revolutionary any more spec wise and the screen is not anything new, it just sits right on top of the glass.
      When the Galaxy Nexus came out it was priced the same way. Probably the best Nexus screen wise around for 2011/2012 and it was at least $600 off contract. But no other phone had even close to their specs that year, not even the iPhone 4s and that still cost about $700 off contract back then. Your bitching is noted but not fully researched.

    The notification shade, to me, just shows that Google needs to rethink their UI and gestures for larger display devices. I really wish MS and Apple didn't feel the need to copy Googs and did something different.

    I used to be very enthusiastic about the Nexus line-up of phones, screaming from the rooftops that my next phone would be a Nexus, but now...not so much.
    While I'd enjoy having a bigger screen - which would make it better for browsing, media-consumption etc. - it would also be less comfortable to hold.
    It's not like the LG G3, which has a bigger display than most devices, but without making the phone feel big or gigantic - something I do experience when holding a Samsung Galaxy Note.
    Some of us don't have big hands, Google.
    The significant increase in price is not very encouraging either.
    Nexus phones used to be about great specs, coupled with a relative low price tag - especially when compared to other phones with similar specs.
    Unless I can get the Nexus 6 through something like a giveaway, I probably wouldn't pick the Nexus 6 as my next phone.
    It would be worth considering, but it wouldn't be on the top of my list.

    Hey Mike great review. Why is it today that most phones aren't giving ear buds? I know apple does, but not many more. Your spending all this money you should get a set of ear (phones) buds. Thanks what is your take on it. Gio.

    If you don't like the N6 cause of its lack of features then get a Note. Personally I think there is no need for one handed options or anything. We all use two hands to text anyway and you can web surf and anything else with one hand.

      Are you joking considering a Samsung phone.
      You just look at the commercials and think it's a nice phone. Try to use different phones before buying one. Apple, HTC, Motorola Sony and LG(in that order) make so much better phones.
      Wow false consumer advice. Are you working for Samsung?

      +Sean Gamer The N5 is a good phone but it gets 8 hours of normal use(without gaming) compared to the HTC One M9 which gets 10 hours of normal use. When doing games both last between 2 or 3 hours.

      @ernestoditerribile 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sean Gamer iPhones are still superior over any Android phone. And my daily drivers are a Nexus 5 with Secure Phone software. An HTC One M8 and M9. An blackberry bold and an iPhone 5S and 6. Still the phone I take the most out of my pockets is the iPhone 5S for it's superior size and Software. The iPhone 6 is slightly better. But the other phones are just company phones I use for communication with the various companies I work for.

    So far I'm comparing these: HTC Desire EYE, HTC Desire 820, Motorola Moto G 2014, HTC One M8, Nvidia Shield if I fined one.
    I appreciate any more recommendation like a back firing speaker but a good speaker overall.

      One m8 is your best choice IMO, Iv had it for 3 weeks now and the battery is always 14-16 hours with moderate to heavy usage. And, of course, HTC having been the first ones to come up with front firing speakers, they have the best sounding and loudest speakers on any phone, BoomSound really does describe the sound quality well.

    Idk why people complain about you having to use two hands for this device. Its a fucking phablet you're not suppose to use it one handed if you want a one handed device then get smaller phone. This phone isn't even that big compared to the iPhone 6 plus I switched from the 6 plus to this and it felt about the same. I've had the note 4 the 6 plus and my current phone the nexus 6 and I couldn't use any of them with just one hand . Phablets aren't meant to be held with one hand !! Just get a different phone if you're gonna complain about how big it is ..its meant to be big

    I brought a Nexus 5 a few months ago, which got updated to Lollipop a week or two ago, and probably will be unlikely to upgrade to get the 6. Also, The Nexus 5 has fast cellular & wireless networking, a camera that, imo, is fine for everyday casual use, the latest software, a high res screen, a manageable size and I added a power case to give me a total of 5300mAh so I see no practical reason to upgrade. Another one of the main reasons why I don't plan to buy the new nexus is it's high price, which works out to over 800 New Zealand Dollars for the 32 and nearly $900. Also, it isn't really even available in NZ and is not yet offered by any carriers, but it would have to be a pretty awesome deal to get me to sign up for 24 months

    • @JustinSmith28
      @JustinSmith28 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Acaully the 6 has faster wireless. It also supports many more bands for carriers.

    • @TheWolfHowling
      @TheWolfHowling 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you are right that the Nexus 6 does support more LTE bands & supports LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation to combine multiple radio bands to increase LTE data speeds. However, here in New Zealand, all 3 cariers are all using the 18MHz band [Band 3] for their primary LTE network

    • @JustinSmith28
      @JustinSmith28 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheWolfHowling do you mean 1800MHz band 3? Also I'm not sure but don't all 3 carriers use 700MHz for LTE?

    • @TheWolfHowling
      @TheWolfHowling 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that the two big carriers are conducting some pilot programs using the 700MHz band but the main networks are being built on 1800

    • @ernestoditerribile

      Are you really serious?
      HTC, Motorola, Sony and Nexus 5 are the best Android phones on the market. Samsung phones always lag, have a horrible User Interface(Touchwizz) and always tend to break down in 1 or 2 years.
      If you just spend a few bucks more just buy an iPhone 6 or 6+, they truly perform very well under all circumstances, you have a lot more games. You don't have Google or Facebook tracking everything(if you don't use it on the iPhone, on Androids there is no opt out). It has a lot fewer bugs then any Android Device.
      But if you should make the choice between these 2 brands, take the Sony(nice camera, good UI) Samsung is exactly the opposite in these 2 features as well as horrible build quality.

    I still use and love my Nexus 4, I just wish the 16gb model had more space. The choice between N5 and N6 is tough, especially because I will only ever buy phones with the pure Android OS. I really do not want a phablet but also do not want to buy a phone that's already a year old. I just wish Google would make a second generation Nexus 5 already.
