Well done, son. And the very best thing ... that bloody old chain case oil bath won't be leaking anymore!

I would think a belt drive for the primary would be a better solution, given it was meant to be an oil bath originally, unless you like to regularly remove the cover and spray the chain with sticky chain lube.

He could just have bought a house on a hill.No seriously, wonderfull stuff and doesn't look like an amateur lash up but really professional.I do understand the problem as I have got a 1964 G80CS that had a Lucas wader magneto that was rebuilt by a, so called, professional and could only start the engine on full advance. One time it kicked back so hard that I kneed myself in the face ! Happy riding sir.

Hope you get the advancing mechanism fixed, or you will be injured sooner or later!

I live on a hill, trust me, pushing a G80 or G9 back up it when it fails to start is nooo fun when your pushing 60 yrs old. I decided I would build a roller starter and only park on hills when I go out, no problems when the engine's still warm. 👍🇦🇺

what about the charging? where does the dynamo live or is it also converted to alternator?

All post-1959 Matchless G3/G80 roadsters had alternators. Pre-1957 roadsters had the E3N dynamo. The bike in the video appears to be a 1961 model.

I don't know that's why I asked. I sent a message to the Email at the end of the video, no answer. Well it was 12 years ago maybe they've popped their clogs

He only made it for himself. And such projects, by the end, you're glad you only ever made ONE.
