@@subjectc7505 Problem is most of the new factions you find on the steam workshop are either new special force units or they are cheap reskins of existing factions. I searched up cartel sicario..... expecting to see some GR wildands type units and all that popped up were guys in looter or guerilla clothing with weak arsenals and no vests that would offer any form of ballistic protection
I like to give the units stuff that usually isnt used like water bottes, softdrinks, food, ropes, extra flashlights cigarettes etc. like none of that really does anything if you dont have some survival mechanics enabled but it increases teh immersion when you like go through someone's backpack to find something or check a corpse for stuff.
I've watched several "how to " do this vids on factions and you explain the export part of it the best - the links should help too. I'll make sure and give you credit when I can successfully share a faction to Steam and as always thanks so much for taking the time to share!
This is exactly what I was hoping for. I was thinking of setting up a Kaiserreich inspired OP with some friends and I've hit a stonewall with making and saving factions in ALiVE's ORBAT creator.
I just love the background music! Very nice Tutorial for creating my own factions. I always spend the most time making factions in the Virtual Arsenal and than I copypasted them on OPFOR Units.
There being 200 different mods for custom factions is exactly why I'm here! I'm going to use this to make a nice SCP Foundation-themed faction that uses mostly vanilla and probably CUP assets! Thanks for this video!

Okay, so I made my own faction, but decided, after some days, to tweak the loadouts a bit. So I import the config and remake it, but everytime I click "save changes" it just doesnt actually do that, since when I go back to edit the loadout, its the same, as if I didn't change anything. Help bitte

once you have the .pbo in the @ modfolder as described - open the Arma3 Launcher and on the mod screen choose "+ Local Mod" at the top, navigate to your @folder and select it
If you are talking about how to add the local mod all you got to do is put the @customfaction folder into your desktop with the factions.pbo with the factions folder and go into the launcher go to the mods tap and under the mods tab it should say local mod click that find your @customfaction folder and click the import button or something like that or it might be select folder and active at mod like any other
Your tutorial is very thorough and well done, and I don't blame you for this. Unfortunately, ALiVE ORBAT does not do what it should. I have tried to copy the vanilla AAF and change them to Blufor in order to have them on the blufor side of Warlords multiplayer - did all that you did, exporte and made them a PBO, loaded that up in ARMA. Unfortunately, they still show up in the IND category. I'll try drongo's creator, see if that works. Thanks anyways. Left a well deserved thumbs up.
Best ALIVE Orbat tutorial out there, really helped me out. If I publish the factions I'm working on I will be sure to credit you. Having the sample mod folder was super helpful
What I really wonder, is there a way to control the randomization? E.g. I want my units to have 3 or 4 different, randomized helmets. So I'd like to pick the specific helmets that are allowed to appear randomly on their heads. Do you know anything about this?
Hey! I did all your steps in the video correctly and there were no issues until we reached the end where I had to use the PBO manager. Well for some reason the PBO manager came in a single text file that, when opended, displays gibberish text. So I found an old version (PBO manager 1.4, not the newest 1.4.7) but that one was unable to create a PBO version of my faction folder. It for some reason, there was no button that allowed PBO Manager to just turn my faction folder to a PBO, this may be due to me being in windows 11 but in the same time, windows eleven has a "more options" page which I have clicked, and PBO manager seems to be missing when given the extra options. I am unsure what to do currently and I am pretty stuck, and most of the tutorials I watch do not fix my problem

Ey man, I'm having a problem with importing an existing Faction Unit ( 7:50 ). Whenever I try to import an EXISTING FACTION UNIT it is ALWAYS blank in the category and unit type. Yes, I changed the faction tab to already existing factions (CSAT, NATO, AAF, Looters, LDF, you name it) it always comes up blank for category and type.
When i try to launch the game with my custom mod it just says: File faction\Confiserie.cpp, line 1: /CfgGroups/WEST/B_DEHeer/: Missing '}' What should i do
I've tried it several times doing exactly as was instructed, but only managed to break the game and keep it from launching. How do I get the PBO file to be read by arma without it crashing? Where does the PBO file go? Why am I getting error messages when I try to export the full faction but not the cfg?

@WarIsHell thank you for this video but I have some questions here since I am trying to learn how to properly set up configs or find alternatives to create factions and put the in a mod for all kind of "game modes" I am creating for ArmA 3. Let me share the questions then: 1) Do I need ALiVE to use these factions after their creation? And if not, does the issue with ALiVE ORBAT Loadout override insists? 2) Is there a way to disable the randomization of the facewear of the units? Idk if this is a good place to ask, but i have made my own faction, everything works like it should, but when i used it for DRO, some stuffs are missing like the scope on the rifle, or the medkit for the medics. Is there any solution to this?
ALiVE uses scripted loadouts that don't play well with DRO (at least not anymore). Don't know of a workaround beyond fixing them by hand every mission.
Tried making a faction the placement preview shows it was saved but it doesn't actually load the units correctly. It reverts back to the base 3CB unit I based it off, how do I fix this?
Hey question. How exactly would I make my soldiers keep the face wear I give them. I want to give my troops Blue Armbands but the Armbands are in the face wear category so they always disappear when I want to give them a pretty important feature to differentiate who they fight for.
How do you add a custom logo to your unit? Like when you hover over the units, theres a puzzle logo, I would like to add my own image, how can I do this? Ideally, I'd also like to add a custom emblem that all my units wear.
It didn't work, I followed all steps exactly, and when I loaded game with local mod enabled, it doesn't show up at all. It's not even in the faction menu anymore now that I reset game, so I would have to start from the beginning if I wanted to make the faction again.
Great tutorial! Explained more than an other ones I could find and help me figure out 2 days worth of issues. I have a question though. I made a custom faction with new groups and units, I then tested it in game and with the ALIVE system and it works. I then wanted to add additional groups and new custom units, when I export the faction and the CFGpatches it only gives me the new groups and units I made during the most recent session, if I create a PBO of it by itself it was a incomplete faction and errored out. I found a workaround by creating a new PBO and placing the second PBO into the addons folder in my custom mod folder. I effectively created two mods for 1 faction, while it works, is there a better way to go about it?

Having an issue with making factions that align with Scion Conflict. I'm making the "Amalgamate Republic Lancer Corps" with 4 different factions. Each faction represents the infantry wearing different camo. I made an original base faction with the troops wearing grey/space camo. It worked just fine. I then made an arctic/snow version of the troops, copied the original faction, replaced the autogen and cfgpatches files while reusing the cpp and the PBO Prefix file. Even when both are loaded, the only faction that shows up is the one that was packaged into a PBO most recently. Do I need to use new files? Does the "autogen" file have to be called autogen? The factions are named differently as well. Any help appreciated thank you

Hello. I have a problem. Soon as I get in the editor and spawn a group of units, I get this error: '...is setunitloadout _loadout;[_this]call |#|CFP_main_fnc_randomizeUnit;reload _this}..." Error Undefined variable in expression: cfp_main_fnc_randomizeUnit The units I spawn aren't randomized properly and before that happened I used Alive Orbat Creator to make my own faction. I uninstalled the CFP mod and installed it again and it keeps showing again. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
For sme reason i have som kind of error when i try to copy full faction And also even when i copied full faction to file, ArmA can't find the PBO file even though I already made 2 factions prior and It can't even find files to already existing mods.

Do you use one orbat made faction at a time or do you have two custom factions fighting eachother? Whenever I try to load two factions I've made only one is usable in game.
How to fix the face options swapping on their own? I read on a forum that it will save what you pick but when I go to edit it it picks from either the scarfs or the shades

@@WarIsHell does it need to be a pbo of the faction folder? I tested to see if I needed two pbo from the faction folder, 'faction' and 'faction 2' and that didn't work. Wouldn't let me keep it without the '2'

Do you know wo to add logistics as well? I created my faction and played it with alive but is giving me 0 force pool, the units do not attack the objectives as well, am i missing some steps here?
Well as close as I get I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong so that the PBO manager can find the file to get it where the game can find it. PBO can't find Google drive for your template files. Your right about the ease of making the factions though, but getting them into the editor is a pain so far!

Good day, Mr. Hell. I'm having a little problem with the "convert to PBO" part... I exported both ".txt"s and I've downloaded the PBO manager. When I right click the "Faction" folder, it doesn't show me any convertion option. I've also tried to use the manager itself, but it doesn't allow me to drag and drop the folder or anything... Do you know what could happening here?? If anyone here in the comments know what's happening, I would also appreciate the help. o/

Got an error about some checksum when exporting, had a really bad feeling i lost all my work as the paste had none of the units just groups, but i could do nothing but continue the tutorial and export to see if true. Lost all my units and groups are empty cuz of it, lots of hours wasted, feel pretty offput now. Thanks for the tutorial looks like it'd work beyond my shitty pc.
So I just tried this for myself and I am confused, so I tried it with just vanilla assets just to test it and when I try and make a unit for my new faction there is no types to choose from. Is their something I am missing like a mod or a save button.
so basically these custom factions made through alive orbat will then be compatible with alive? As in you could spawn this custom faction for the opfor side of an alive scenario? hope that makes sense.

That's how I started too but then realized if I need Zeus, it doesn't work as well and learned this

you have to edit and get a new config name for them in the edit page. do it for all of the units and they will show up in the correct place :)

Hopefully it works for you but it didn't for me.
A slight problem I've been having on my end is that it won't save uniform, helmet, backpack, or facewear choice, dunno what's up with that.
Do you know if you can use this to create factions but then remove mod? Or does the mod NEED to be include in mod list. Thank you!

You just give them it, it fixes in 3den editor, so don't worry, in Alive it's visually random

Does progress save at all when making this? or do you have to do everything right then and there?

Having an issue with making factions that align with Scion Conflict. I'm making the "Amalgamate Republic Lancer Corps" with 4 different factions. Each faction represents the infantry wearing different camo. I made an original base faction with the troops wearing grey/space camo. It worked just fine. I then made an arctic/snow version of the troops, copied the original faction, replaced the autogen and cfgpatches files while reusing the cpp and the PBO Prefix file. Even when both are loaded, the only faction that shows up is the one that was packaged into a PBO most recently. Do I need to use new files? Does the "autogen" file have to be called autogen? The factions are named differently as well. Any help appreciated thank you
Hey so im having an issue where when i go to save the CFGpatches and Autogen the file in the actual .ZIP doesnt update. ik its probably my fault but i dont know what step i skipped so maybe you can help?
Hello. I have a problem. Soon as I get in the editor and spawn a group of units, I get this error:
'...is setunitloadout _loadout;[_this]call
|#|CFP_main_fnc_randomizeUnit;reload _this}..."
Error Undefined variable in expression: cfp_main_fnc_randomizeUnit
The units I spawn aren't randomized properly and before that happened I used Alive Orbat Creator to make my own faction.
I uninstalled the CFP mod and installed it again and it keeps showing again. Any ideas?

For sme reason i have som kind of error when i try to copy full faction And also even when i copied full faction to file, ArmA can't find the PBO file even though I already made 2 factions prior and It can't even find files to already existing mods.

How do I make my units wear facewear at all times? I want my units to wear balaclavas, so I set them in the arsenal, but when I save them they're not wearing the balaclava.
This is a bug right now but when you actually spawn them in they where what you actually set
im having an issue where i can only use 1 faction I made using your mod template provided? ive made 3 using your template and only 1 seems to be working when I enable as a local mod

Try changing the name of the faction folder before you pack it as a pbo. Let me know if that works.

Silly question but would this be doable for Vindicta? I have a small group of people who I host for and would love to tweak some aesthetic stuff and infantry arms for them to use. I dont know if Id need to pre-0fill vehicles or anything either for that if youre familiar with it.

Do you use one orbat made faction at a time or do you have two custom factions fighting eachother? Whenever I try to load two factions I've made only one is usable in game.

I downloaded PBO manager but it doesnt show up when I right click to export my faction. Does anyone know what I can do, im on Windows 10 idk if that makes a difference
try downloading Arma 3 Tools off steam and using the Addon Builder instead

I think what you need to do is put two .pbos in your addons folder

@@WarIsHell does it need to be a pbo of the faction folder? I tested to see if I needed two pbo from the faction folder, 'faction' and 'faction 2' and that didn't work. Wouldn't let me keep it without the '2'
@@WarIsHell Just got it to work! I made another copy of the whole file and pbo and it worked. In essence, two copies of the whole pbo in the mod. Thanks for helping me out!

Can you put these custom made units into the alive spawn faction through AI Commander and so on? Or is this mainly for zeus and will not work with alive sense it’s technically not a support faction that’s listed in their spreadsheet?
I wish I could tell you, I've not used alive for anything than the orbat creator. That might be worth trying and coming back and letting us know what you find
They'll work just fine to use with the virtual AI system
Do you know wo to add logistics as well? I created my faction and played it with alive but is giving me 0 force pool, the units do not attack the objectives as well, am i missing some steps here?
Well as close as I get I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong so that the PBO manager can find the file to get it where the game can find it. PBO can't find Google drive for your template files. Your right about the ease of making the factions though, but getting them into the editor is a pain so far!
to update my own comment - it was and is a lot easier once you do it a few times - the template was the real key so thanks again and again!

Good day, Mr. Hell. I'm having a little problem with the "convert to PBO" part... I exported both ".txt"s and I've downloaded the PBO manager. When I right click the "Faction" folder, it doesn't show me any convertion option. I've also tried to use the manager itself, but it doesn't allow me to drag and drop the folder or anything... Do you know what could happening here?? If anyone here in the comments know what's happening, I would also appreciate the help. o/

Quick question, after I exported the full faction, my Arma crashed, is there a way to load up the faction again so I can generate the CFG?
Got an error about some checksum when exporting, had a really bad feeling i lost all my work as the paste had none of the units just groups, but i could do nothing but continue the tutorial and export to see if true. Lost all my units and groups are empty cuz of it, lots of hours wasted, feel pretty offput now. Thanks for the tutorial looks like it'd work beyond my shitty pc.

Hi if i want to make more than one faction do i just need to pack all the PBO into the addons @customfaction folder ?

So I just tried this for myself and I am confused, so I tried it with just vanilla assets just to test it and when I try and make a unit for my new faction there is no types to choose from. Is their something I am missing like a mod or a save button.

PBO manager is gone.... and I found one online but I cant figure out how to pack it.
so basically these custom factions made through alive orbat will then be compatible with alive? As in you could spawn this custom faction for the opfor side of an alive scenario? hope that makes sense.
