If the GT3 RS weighed as little as the GT3 Cup, I think it would probably be about the same lap time, it weights 390 kg more but it wasn't going down without a fight.
With the same weight it would be at least a couple of seconds faster
yeah but gt3 cup is evolved from 992 gt3, not gt3 rs
@@hayzko7781 the other way around. 992 GT3 is based upon 992 GT3 Cup. It's always the Cup car that gets developed first and then they base GT3 and GT3RS on it.
@@v0ldy54 yes
"If" but it will kill the purpose of the video, road car vs race car
Aside from both of the Hyundai cars, obviously the road cars of the Mercedes, Porsche and Audi got more power, but their racing counterparts have more downforce, acceleration, maneuverability and etc. Which gives them the big advantage even if their underpowered.
Plus, nice battle between the porches.
Yeah I wonder how the Corvette GT3 car versus the new ZO7 would go?
Shows that horsepower isn't that relevant on racing if u have superior maneuverability
The tires too, the race car may have slicks while the road car use semi slicks or other
@@devon_tamaamThat too. That's why I said "etc" I didn't want to type up the other parts the cup cars have, it's like typing up a catalog of items.
Kind of proves Colin Chapman’s point tho when u think abt it: simplify, then add lightness. I guess all race cars are just Lotuses
I think if you put both on the same tyres, the GT3RS and its counterpart would be pretty even. Also, the racing cars always had that better inside line in the first corner which makes this comparison lack a bit
yeah just hot lap would be fair
They should of used the gt3 R not the cup to compare against. The R is the "RS" equivalent for their race cars and is considerably faster than the cup.
@@En_Joshi-Godrez That's cause the GT3 R is based on FIA GT3, which is a faster class overall than Porsche GT3 Cup
This the first turn is key you swap the places and I’m almost guaranteeing that the Porsche street car wins with the inside starting position.
@@Dêâthwing61 The GT3 RS certainly has enough to stay ahead if it led into T1.
The Mercedes... maybe, who knows? The AC AI isn't into dangerous manouvers and it's not overtaking on the straight with that power disadvantage.
Though admittedly the GT3 version is indeed faster.
Can't wait the new gen Ferrari, the 830 horses 296 GTB should be close.
I think it was EVO magazine who once put an Audi R8 Plus (carbon fiber construction, V10, all-wheel drive, and basically a 542 hp suoercar) versus a Renault Clio Cup (the race car version of the fourth Clio), and they basically did the same time around a track, despite the Clio having less than half of the hp. Never underestimate the real potential of race cars.
it's true at the track in my town a guy with an old golf gti mk1 race prepared is pretty much the fastest car on the track even faster than some corvettes and 911s
Clip cup vs r8 lms when?
The Clio is lighter for sure. Don't know how both are in terms of hp/Kg, but they must be close.
@@andresilvasophisma The Clio is indeed lighter, but the R8 is not a heavy car by any measure, so there's no way that the Clio is half the weight of the Audi. The power to weight ratio is still very much in favour of the R8
@@ambergris5705 The R8 is very heavy. 1670-1770kg depending on the model, it's a fat heavy car compared to Porsche and especially a Clio race car which is probably around 800-850kg.
The braking capability is the underrated bit. Most have same power but race versions have better brakes (you stay at higher speed for 100m per corner, 7-10 corners high speed accounts a lot over a lap)
That, and they are lighter allowing them to turn quicker and stop more easily.
Plus, race tires = even more braking power thanks to increased grip.
Better brakes don't make to stop faster, this is the job of the tires. Better brakes guarantee to you that they won't fail while you are racing. It's all about better grip.
@@PedroPauloAmorim Exactly, more grip equals less tire lockup when braking, less tire lockup also equals less braking interruption from the ABS electronics, resulting in more efficient braking peaks.
Braking has almost nothing to do with brakes, it's all about grip. Most road cars, especially performance versions will be able to handle a single lap with no brake fade.
@@Mr.Wolf_947 That last part is not exactly true, ABS cuts down your braking distance by a lot, it's not "interrupting", that's misleading, it's continually adjusting braking force to keep it at the absolute limit and maximise performance.
That grip is everything when braking is true though, what brakes you use make very little difference, the only difference they make is for how many laps you can sustain that braking for.
8:51 really close wheel to wheel fight all the way to the line 👀👀
yeah! it was so intense from the start... i couldn't tell who would win until the end
Love the idea of this, very cool comparison 👌🏻
Glad you liked it!
@Damar Fadlan bro love live was the last thing i expected opening the comment section💀
@Damar Fadlan i found my kind😂
Once in the past, I experienced a "little ride" in my friend's rally training Škoda car... (his father was a professional rally driver). It was just a "baby" - rookie training car but still, I was shocked by the raw element. The suspension is so hard so you REALLY feel every single little stone on the road... slick tyres are also completely different world. And just the feel of completely stripped car where you hear all the noises, little stones flying from the tyres etc., etc... So this is no surprise. But as we can see in case of Porsche here, the "tax" for some comfort does not need to be that high...
Why race version cars starts from pole and closely to the apex than road cars? Its seems like additional advantage
AC's AI is pretty bad overtaking. There's no point on letting the road car take the lead and let the race car behind the entire lap even if it is 1, 2 or 5 seconds faster
@@THEWINDTUNNEL then drive it yourself one at a time and compare the hot laps. This comparison was REALLY bad
@@charleystello1822why was it bad? He literally explained
You should've compared one of the supercar gt4 cars to its road counterpart. Like the R8 or McLaren. I reckon it would be quite close.
GTEs, GT4s, classic cars... All coming in part 2 ;)
If the comparison between the road going GR Yaris and the GR Yaris Rally1, then it would be more exciting and informative comparison.
Will be in Part 2. Very likely in the thumbnail
That first race proves, what seems better on paper (the black series with more horsepower, higher top speed, and faster acceleration) isn't always faster. Cheers! Instant sub for the narration style and production quality.
Thank you so much, really appreciate it
The black would absolutely smash lap time on the circuit test is not very scientific
@@isaiahblake8723 uhh.... Sure buddy...
Ok, but this is just a sim. We can't conclude really what is better.
@@MegaCm123456 it's called a simulation for a reason
"Simplify, then add lightness." Colin Chapman
6:50 the 0-100 kph times don't make sense, it says the road car was a tenth quicker than the race car but the race car left the road version in the dust
rally car is in the 2 second range lmao
Ur right. It was 3.0 sec for the rally1 and 6.9 sec for the road car. Editing mistake 😬
@@THEWINDTUNNEL that makes more sense
Nice , i think the result would be different if the gt3 rs start on the left side of the grid 😅
I think it might be possible on a track with lots of long straights (Road America, or maybe Sebring comes to mind) and if the road car is allowed to be on racing slicks. But largely, the cornering and braking advantage between a road car and a race car with heavy aero is massive on any track where top speed isn't an issue.
This is why I love mutli-class road racing. Love seeing lower downforce GTD cars blow by GTLM cars on the straights, only to be obliterated by GTLM on the turns/braking zones.
That Audi race was nice example of why weight sometimes matters more than power
Cool driving you nailed those corners. Hello from South Africa.
For anyone wondering the Circuit, it appears to be Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Montreal Formula E Circuit
Thanks, was looking for this
Are all the cars controlled by AI? Anyway great video, what amazed me most is how little the road cars seemed to gain on the straights.
Yes!
Grip and handling modifications make up for such power difference , satisfying video :)
You should’ve started with the road cars in first & see if the track car can overtake the road car
Finally. Been looking for this idea. Can we get a part two. There more cars that can be done
Sure!! Part 2 in the next few weeks. Old cars too👀
@@THEWINDTUNNEL I've beet typing gt3 race car vs super cars and I get Porsche gt3 road cars vs AMG gt ect. Old cars? Like the Audi quattro S1 vs the road car. Mercedes DTM vs c63 AMG,
@@thandontantiso3744 Both are in the list :). I have a list with enough duels to make ten 10 min videos
@@THEWINDTUNNEL 😊 can't wait
@@THEWINDTUNNELsounds amazing
The brakes make the biggest difference. Having driven both a GT2 RS and a cup car on track the same day, the braking zone is about half. With how fast the GT2 is the Cup was still close to a second quicker from the brakes and a slight help from more aero
I would love to see a battle between a C8.R and a Z06
I feel the biggest advantage that isn't really discussed is the track cars ability to completely out-brake the road cars
Shows how damn good those Road going 911 GT2/3 cars are.
In real life, most 911’s are all within a narrow range of actual performance numbers so it’s no surprise that the two Porsche here were so close. A base 911 can rip to 60 in just under 4 sec while the insane 911 Turbo S can do it under 3 sec. Among all the 911 variants, their accelerations are all within 1.5 sec. That’s nuts!
Good comparison
In other words, the versions of competition to have less power and greater aerodynamic load make better turn time than the versions of street (production)
an interesting fact about the AMG GT3 and the AMG GT-BS. The AMG GT3 does not use the 4.0L twin-turbo engine from the road car as many assume. An adapted variant of the original 6.3L V8 N/A is used
i think one of the most noticeable differences are the Slicks for the Racecars, i think at least the porsche would have beaten the PCup if both had Slicks, maybe the Merc too
All of the race versions were on the first turn side, which gives them the advantage. Once they are ahead after that first turn, its pretty much impossible to pass them if the cars are in any way near equal.
You should try them on a fast track like monza, where the road cars could make use of their higher power
What kind of person you are? Aircon or rollcage?
Why choosing? The GT3 RS has both :)
rollcage
Rollcage
My solution for no air con is chop the roof off for less weight
Aircon for sure haha
For that Audi lap, I think the awd is at the disadvantage over the fwd. The fwd in the race car seems to carry momentum through the corners a lot more effectively than the awd in the road version. Although the awd has better launch, there's not too much difference in a racetrack with slicks involved
The graphics are so real I thought this was a comparison of real cars.
Impressed by how some of the road cars kept up
I think it's not fair that the track cars started first, and that the road cars didn't block the trajectory, because apart from a quick start, the road cars on the track have no advantages..
I would like to see a battle between cars, otherwise road cars are politely let through at the first turn, and then they have no chance to break into the front anymore ..
id be willing to bet that if you put the cars all on the same compound of tire (semislick trackday style) then the merc and audi would be much closer but cool to look at the difference between the cars
Oh darn, I could have sworn the Hyundai had this...
Bro you actually have some great video ideas. Ive said it before but man your never boring
I really appreciate that!!
Brilliant video concept loved this
The RS3 comparison is interesting. Mostly because the RS3 LMS is an RS3 in name alone. It'd be fairer to call it an S3 LMS with that 4-pot 😉
they did the same thing with the TT a couple years back. My guess is that it’s just for marketing purposes. I’m sure they’ve tried fitting the 5 cylinder in there only to realise that’s just extra weight lugging around at the front 😢
The CCGT GT-1 vs the CCX could be an interesting one.
The Porsches were really close. I wonder what their times would look like if each of them could get a clean lap in. There were times were the road car appeared like it was slightly faster, but not fast enough to overtake
Feels like this would have been a lot more interesting had the road cars been given the inside line at the start.
The GT3 RS nearly had the Cup! If only it weighed 100kgs less then I think it'd surely win! Amazing how porsche almost mimicked the track version with the road-going version. Gotta love Porsche!
A lot is made by the race tires, you should try again but with same tires for both cars
This track with it’s long straights and chicanes gives the road version with more power a chance to catch up on the straights while minimizing the downforce and grip advantage of the racing versions due to lack of long corners. If you do this comparison in a track like Barcelona then the gap between the race car and road car will be much much bigger.
this needa be a whole series
It will :)
Awesome, just one little advice, instead of tapping on the gas in the corner, try to maintain the smoothness by having it pressed 40-50% and then full throttle on the exit
The AI is driving to make it more fair. They look pretty bad but trust me they are very fast (That's how AC's AI works), faster than the average simracer
Please run this again with reverse grid order. Would be really interesting if the road cars could be ahead in to turn 1
It's almost as if competition tyres and brakes matter more than power . . .
I noticed, however, that those cars where the roadgoing version had more power, the roadgoing version was also carrying quite a few surplus kg.
The only car for which the roadgoing version was lighter - the Hyundai - the competition version had more than twice the power.
The rally car had an unfair advantage!!!1!1! They had a co-driver! I WANT A REDO ON THAT.
i think you should let the road car to start at the inside of the corner for giving the road car a change to stay ahead and see if it can shake the race version away
I love the different view points and angles
Tyres tyres tyres. I used to work with a world rally team when I was an apprentice. One day at a test at a closed track the tyre supplier conducted a test where we took the road version of the rally car and all we did was swap the wheels and tyres over.
The rally car has 80bhp more than the road car. It had road spec competition suspension, more downforce and limited slip diffs front and rear. The road car had none of that. But it did have pirelli WRC near-slick tyres.
The road car was faster. Able to use all of its 270 bhp. The rally car just shredded rubber with its 350bhp unable to use it properly.
Other than the organic thing behind the wheel the biggest performance upgrade you can do to any car in the real world is tyres.
Same for off road vehicles. I get sick of TH-cam videos that say "car X gets stuck and car Y gets through" and you see that car X is on highway tyres and car Y is on BFG All Terrains.
They're the only part that touches the track, everything above them is worthless if they can't do their job.
Fascinating story. Which team it was? Subaru?
@@THEWINDTUNNEL aye, Prodrive, at No. 2 test track at MIRA, near Hinckley, UK. 1998.
@@typhoon-7 270hp road car was either Subaru or Mitsubishi. Again, thanks for the story I love those :)
@@THEWINDTUNNEL yes it was an Impreza.
The Porsche GT3 RS is well engineered damn
Tires are uber important. All other things being the same, if the road cars had the same rubber, it would have made a huge difference in the road car performance. I would like to see this done again with the road cars having the same tires as the race cars.
The braking and downforce differences really do overshadow hp
What this simulator doesn't simulate is the extremely complex vehicle dynamics controls modern street cars have. For example, the street Audi RS3 has torque vectoring, which may not be modelled in-sim.
It would have been so much more interesting if the road cars started P1 rather than behind the race cars. After the first corner the road cars had no chance of passing.
Now pit the McLaren 720S against the 720S GT3.
710HP in a RWD midship format VS. its GT3 brother that weighs barely 200kg less and runs 510HP homologated. That would be a fight worth seeing in my eyes.
If you want to know where to find them, Markos Kass has a decent example of the 720S as does Whistleblower39 for the 720S GT3, converted from ACC.

The sound of the porches!!
I think we need a real version of this in real life I would like to see it
Find me a way to convince Mercedes, Audi, Porsche and Hyundai and renting a circuit and I'll make it happen. You drive one car and I'll drive the other. As easy as that😂
The tcr cars have a volkswagen engine i think
You are right, EA888
I think Audi stood a chance if it defended into T1 instead of leaving the door wide open, it has superior traction and is faster in straight line so you can keep the faster track built version behind for a while
Please, make this Kind of comparison with Nascar Cars vs Road Cars, in road tracks and oval please!!
For sure!
I’m amazed Mercedes was able to remove as much weight from the GT3 car as they were since they are both the same chassis
Would've rather seen like performante vs huracan gt3 than the Hyundai destruction that was never gonna be close, but still a cool vid
Would also be interesting to compare fuel usage!
If you interchanged the startong order for the Porsche I'm sure the road car would win.
The tires are probably the biggest factor. It seems the road cars have road tires and the race cars obviously has slicks.
pretty sure that the gt3rs and the Gt black series both would have won at Monza. Because they would have gotten into the lead before the 2nd chicane, and then it'll be difficult to pass on the tight corners, while the road cars have the advantage on the straights.
i am only wondering, i know it may not have changed the outcome, but where the road cars and track cars on the same rubber compound? then it would be a straight car to car comparison
i think the biggest difference is the race cars being on slicks. put them both on like a "track day" 100tw tire and i bet theyd be very close.
I think you should give the road cars slicks since it’s technically not part of the car plus make ‘em start in p1
I could care less when the cars have a soundtrack as Tsunami creating like that!
Lol'd at the Co-Driver
From where are your mods from looking sick !
Should have the same tire compound to get a better results from oe performance. That gt3 would've been about equal or better if the tires were the same as the cup car
The Porsche and Mercedes would easily beat the racing versions with the same tyres
I’d love to see this same test with the road car using the same tires as race car
The Porsche and Mercedes would easily beat the racing versions with the same tyres
This is something Top Gear or The Grand Tour should do!
Not surprised on the result. Race spec cars have better efficiency, better aero and better tires. Most importantly: the tires! They are everything on a track! If the Porsche would have the same tires as the race spec counterpart then it would probably win fair and square 👍
coud you this test again but with both of the cars having the same tyres. start with the road tires on both? and have racing tires the next round?
Yes but are the road cars on the same tyre compound as the race cars?
Just subbed. Happy Christmas!
What tyres do they have? 2-3 seconds can make with tyre type select
Surely it would be fairer to put the road cars starting first as they are obviously are going to have more of a struggle overtaking/keeping up
Could you do gen 1 vs gen 2 vs gen 3 for formula e
Very soon...👀
How about race cars from the past vs their modern equivalent? GT40 1960’s vs Ford GT? Toyota Celica ST-205 Grp A vs GR Yaris?
📝
Porsche being Porsche. So professional driver in GT3RS would beat amateur driver in CUP
should've had the production cars start in p1 and actually give them a chance through the first corner. more battling would've made this a better video
Nice. I imagine after a couple of laps the road car’s brakes would be boiling. No replacement for a purpose built car.
The race cars were on slicks, right? Would be interesting to see both cars race on the same tyres
Yes, each car their real tyres
Now we need C8 Z06 vs. C8.R
Why does a race car start in front of a normal version? It would be much better if race car started behind road version
Aero is a hell of a drug
AMG road car sounds like the V8 Supercars in TOCA Race Driver 2
Should of done 911 gt2rs instead of the gt3, since thats the fastest road going version of the 911. Cool vid tho.
