Dakar cars made for dakar. In dune circumstances, it would have killed the street version. And now I have been optimistic because I haven't presumed a suspension break at first "4 left tightens into big jump triple caution".

For the 959 the actual race version is the 961 for the trans am

@@deltas4764 from what I've read, the 961 only entered 3 races ('86 24h Le Mans - GTX class, '86 IMSA GT 18th round - GTP class, '87 24h Le Mans - GTX class)
It was first competed in 1986 Le Mans 24hrs and the car proved successful in its maiden race even though it had its fair share of problems in early laps, but it managed to finish 7th overall just behind six C-class racers. And it achieved class win because it was the only car competed in IMSA GTX class.

This here, is a good representation of how, horsepower doesn't necessarily mean you'll win the race. You see the price tags of both? That nascar race car, is tuned to get the most out of it. And, sounds damn good coming down a straight away through gears. 😁

yup it was good the 959 kinda surpied me
The 959 was deceptive to me. I think lap time would have been faster for the race car and given another lap would have been able to pass and even in the hands of the right driver would have passed in the 1 lap
The only thing that surprised me was the race version of the 959 didn't take off in front at the start of the lap, given the huge difference in power/weight ratio. I don't know what's the explanation behind that. Though it was clearly faster overall, it's just that the AI is bad at passing.
You need to do this again using all Group A cars - touring and rally.

I thought the gt500 would have been faster than it was and I wasn't expecting the 959 to beat its racing version
The only reason the 959 beat its racing version is because the AI sucks at overtaking. The rally version was clearly catching up even though it's held back by lower top speed and higher center of gravity, and could have taken the lead. The difference in power/weight ratio is just too big.
wouldn't surprise with the gt500 cuz it weight 500+kg more than the race version🤷

It would still most likely be over before the first turn. Just look at the Dakar Porsche. It started 1st but the road car pulled away before the 1st turn

Turns out, when you take out a few hundred pounds, add slicks, aero and horsepower (usually), the cars go faster 😂
I feel like the only street cars that would beat the race version would be a supercar that had to be de-tuned for a racing series, or a capable car that entered a slow series.
Or have a Dakar version that focuses on huge dunes and has massive suspension travel and dirt tires lol

Even if you look at something like a 720s gt3, with significantly less power, the gt3 will still dominate everywhere but the salt flats. They spend so much money on non-(traditionally)measurables like suspension, chassis, and aero, that it's completely lop sided. Plus, the race cars have race only motors and gearboxes, that don't have to make compromises for street driving, so you have things like straight cut gears that you otherwise couldn't have.

NASCAR is an acronym, unlike IndyCar which is a full name so you'd say "an IndyCar" or "an F1 car) but not "a NASCAR" )
I feel like something else worth mentioning would be transmission type. The Shelby has a 7 speed dct and the nascar has a 4 speed or a 5 speed depending on the year. 2022 and up uses a 5 speed.
It’s the next gen, which means 5 speed
The GT500 is too heavy and has too soft of a suspension too. It has to balance out road safety features and suspension that won't break your back on normal roads.
You can see how unstable it was in the turns due to body roll and the weight
959 finally beats its race version
Wish Monza is added on real life NASCAR schedule in 2023 or 2024.

The mustang road car and the nascar isn't a fair comaprison, frankly even if you comapred the toyota nascar and the mustang road car the results would have been the same. A more fair comparison would have been with the gen3 Mustang supercars vs the mustang road car.
The Gen3 Supercars are expected to be faster than Next Gen
@@THEWINDTUNNEL My point being that the gen3 supercars are actually based on the mustang. The engine of the gen 3 is based on a mustang engine and the body of the gen 3 actually looks like the real mustang. The nascar car is its own thing, with no relation to the actual mustang.
The Ford Mustang comparison isn’t fair in the slightest because the NASCAR Mustang is just a race car that LOOKS like a Mustang, but isn’t street-legal in the SLIGHTEST. All of the other cars are suped-up versions of their streetfaring counterparts.

How most of the road cars have more speed compared to their racing version?
They are restricted by rules. Plus the downforce made the car's acceleration weaker at high speed.
Don't forget that, depending on the racing series the car is participating in, a lot of racing versions of these road cars have their gearboxes tuned for acceleration (particularly at low to medium speeds) over top speed.
When the price is listed for each car, what does that mean?

Nah mate, look at the stats. It's not just about power. It's power/weight ratio that makes the difference. Even on street tires, the NASCAR would obliterate that stock GT500.

@@dylanmartinez9751 Absolutely not true, Tires don't make a huge difference on street cars but the difference from slicks to regular street tires on a race car would be detrimental. Slick on the nascar easily give it 3-4seconds on this track.. mark my words. And thats from street tires to hard compound slicks.. Imagine soft compound even if nascar rarely used them

Nascar does NOT use a modified road cars. Nascar uses prototypes made from zero, and they only put a shape of the car on top.

Missed opportunity to used a Marc Mustang instead of a Mustang Nascar.
A bit nitpicky, but NASCAR Mustangs aren't really Mustangs. They're the same chassis and base car with the Camrys and Camaros, they just have Mustang styled bumpers and stickers.
That's the point of these video! To see how far apart the race cars are from their road counterparts. You don't go 10 seconds faster by just putting a couple stickers😂
@@THEWINDTUNNEL well, what I mean is that GT3 cars for example are based on the chassis of the original car, and they just have the performance enhancing bodywork and aero on them. But a GT3 Aston Martin Vantage has a different chassis to a GT3 Nissan GTR and the other GT3 cars. In NASCAR, all cars share the same chassis, and that chassis isn't relevant to the one used by their road going variants. The Camry, the Camaro and the Mustang are underneath, the same exact car regarding to their chassis. You can buy a chassis from a Hendrick Camaro, change the bodywork, and race it as a Mustang. You can't do that with GTs and that's because they are based on the production car's chassis.
Completely unrealistic. Using tracks that more suit the race versions than the road versions. I think you should even it out. Do every car again... on the Nordschleife.
