Kenny and Dolly Parton recorded a song written by Barry Gibb of the BeeGees. It's called "Islands in the Stream". Maybe the most iconic country duet of all time.
Kenny Rogers said that Lionel Richie was his best friend. Lionel Richie actually lived with Kenny and his wife while he was working on being discovered. 🤗 They were best friends.

Later you should check out his hits "Lucille", "Coward of the County", "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" and "The Gambler". I think you would enjoy all these songs.
One the great rap beef exchanges of all time goes off last week that has set the culture on fire and this guy reacting to Kenny Rogers and Bon Jovi lmao
Kenny started out rockin’ it with Kenny Rogers & the New Edition, then kinda went country with “Ruby, Don’t take your Love to Town” and “The Gambler” and “Coward of the County” along with others. And did VERY well too, as you can see from the size of the crowd there to see him. But THIS song, at THIS performance, literally took him from a country Star to a country God and kept him there til his death, which people still grieve. I remember ALL of it, ‘cause let’s face it, I was there. I’m old now and grateful to have seen and heard all of it, from Kenny to the Beatles, from Willie to KD Lang, from SRV to Marty Robbins. Loved it all! ❤
From 1968-1984, Kenny Rogers was a staple of the American culture. His songs bordered country western/RnB/ and rock. In that era, most artists had a variety of songs, not just one genre. It was common for people to sing songs written by songwriters (not singers). and little tweaks on the music can switch a rock song to a country, or RnB song. The verse, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus was a popular formula and still is.
Don Henley Met Kenny Rogers when he was playing and asked him to come and watch their band. Kenny came and liked them. He invited them to LA when he finished his tour. 6 months later Don put them up in his house and helped them get gigs. Around the same time in Detroit a young Glenn Fry met Bob Seger who helped him with lyrics and put him on the road to LA. The rest is history.
When Glenn Frye was a beginning song writer he asked Kenny how to become a great song writer. Kenny told him his first songs will not be any good, but just keep on writing and eventually they will be great. He was right.
Kenny Rogers was a key figure in Don Henley's (Eagles' drummer) career. He brought Henley's band, Shilo, into his home to record after Henley convinced Kenny to come hear them in a club. Full circle...

And the song "Twenty years ago" from his 1986 album
Kenny had SO many hit songs, he was extremely diversified in how he sang. Slow, fast, rock, pop, country, jazz, R&B, soul....you got it all
I JUST STOPPED IN TO SEE WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION WAS IN.... When he was a lead singer for shit I forget the name of the band hahaha. IT WAS PYSCHADELIC ROCK!
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition
Some people don't know Lionel Ritchie wrote this and gave it to him. They were good friends.
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition was a rock group with a little country from 1967 - 1970. I'll second the others who recommend Kenny and Lionel duet when they tell the story of how the song was written.
Coward of the County and his duet with Dolly Parton called Islands in the stream please. 🇨🇦🖖🏻
I'm not sure when the misspelling happened, but it's Coward of the County. I think the only video online is a lyric. But Coward Of The County was a movie in the 80s, I believe. If you do a reaction to it, though, please pay close attention to the lyrics. I am thoroughly enjoying your channel.
Kenny Rogers dressed like a pimp. I almost fell off the couch. 😂😂😂😂😂
Pegasus, almost all guys dressed like that in the mid-late 70s.
Kenny was played on pop stations just as much as he was country. He and Lionel were the best of friends. It was great just to watch the two of them in conversation. They had mad respect for each other!!
You are missing one of his best. Island In The Stream with Dolly Parton
