The sound was so horrible a few of us went down a few rows and sat on the stairs. At the end of the concert he apologized and they called out the sections and asked us to stay after the event. Everyone was lead back stage where everyone got to talk to the whole band takes pictures etc. it was really something special. He is not only a great talent but a better human being.

The melody for Chris's cover is taken largely from an Etta James song called "I'd Rather Go Blind". Coe's and Jones's versions sound very different.

This dude can flat out write songs, and SING!!! I love the way you feel the songs and performance's. He wrote these Hits: "If It Hadn't Been for Love" | Adele, "Miles to Go" | Alison Krauss & Union Station, "Homesick" | Sheryl Crow, "Whiskey and You" | Tim McGraw, "Your Man" | Josh Turner, "Come Back Song" | Darius Rucker, "Drink a Beer" | Luke Bryan, "Front Porch Thing" | Little Big Town. Just a few songs he wrote for others before he started performing. Enjoy!!!

Tennessee Whiskey was written by Dean Dillon & Linda Hargrove in 1981.
My family come from Appalachian hillbillies and moonshine runners.
All of my uncles played several instruments and my aunties sang in perfect harmony.
I only spent summers in Arkansas because we lived in Washington.
I’m so grateful my pop had an encyclopedic memory of classic country.

A little tip when you listen to Chris Stapleton music, and I think most people would agree. Is to do him live. His studio stuff is good.. But his lives are great. His voice really shines through on his lives.

BP Chris is a whole rabbit hole worth taking… I Was Wrong, Sometimes I Cry, Cold, and Fire Away are where I would start and his live performances are always the most stellar examples. You will love it all. Teddy Swims is another to checkout he started with covers on TH-cam and has recently gained significant popularity SO MUCH SOUL both of them.

Stapleton is an enigma. He is rock, country, blues, soul, and more. The man is unique, to say the least. Awesome is not the best word to describe him, because I feel he is more than that. Meet Mr. Bad Ass Artist.

It's written as a classic country-western song. The original release was artist David Allen Cole, his version only charted Billboard "Hot Country" list at 77 in 1981. In 1983, George Jones covered it and it charted at #1. His version is definitely classic country and my personal favorite. Stapleton's version popped with his R&B influenced take on it and it charted back again at #1.

BP, this is a rabbit hole you need to go down. Chris never misses. Not even ONCE.
Re: this song, yes it’s an old song, and the original arrangement was quite different, but Chris plays it as a blues song, using the same chord progression as Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind”. So he really reinvented the song.
