- My thoughts and review on the All Terrain Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S Tires
Installed on 2016 Ram 1500 Eco-diesel. Review based on previous 15-16k miles of driving through all 4 seasons, towing, commuting, city, most recently a 400 mile trip in "severe weather conditions"

Great review. I went with a set of these this year after a recommendation from my local tire shop. Couldn’t be happier. We’ve already had a couple of record breaking snowfalls here in Saskatchewan this year, and they’ve preformed amazingly well.
I have had the AT 3 's now for 6 yrs on my work van and I 'm replacing them today with a brand new set.........
I think they are an excellent tire IMO...
I put a set on a 2wd Tacoma, and was blown away by the snow/ice grip, quiet highway ride, and made a rough riding truck {somewhat} plusher. Look great, USA made. I traded truck for a F150 that came with Hankook DynaPro ATM that have zero ice grip and ride like bricks. Dont want to waste a tire, so running them out but looking forward to these AT3 4S next
Hire American! Buy American! I love my Cooper AT. They are nice looking dependable , quite and rides smooth ! Will buy again ! Stay American Cooper!
Great review! Just put these on my Wrangler in northern Oregon and couldn’t be more impressed with their performance.
Coopers are awesome. Those will be the next set to go on my 2 door JK. In a 285/70r17.
White letters on one side of the tire, black on the other. You can mount the tire either way 👍🏻

just looking at buying these myself . Are you running at the psi in the door or higher?
@@brnn5997 I run them at the door for optimum fuel mileage and performance. I do air down when I’m off road but only to 30psi my door is 39psi.
I put 265 65 17 (these ) on the Cherokee Trailhawk (very mild rubbing at full lock with 2 inch rough country lift) . Absolutely INSANE wet and dry traction. Full send no slip ! Great off Road traction too ! I literally can't cause a slide rain or shine. I feel like it would go on two wheels before it would slide.
I wanted the Falken Wildpeak AT3 but they don’t come in the size I need. 265/50r 20. Why?? But you all have me convinced that these Cooper Discoverers are the way to go. I don’t think they look as good as the Falken Wildpeaks but I’m more interested in wet traction. Thanks for the great video.

how they holding up? im getting ready to pu them on my 2021 Ram Lariat w/22 inch wheels. factory Goodyears are not good...ride nice...... but slippery as Biden on a bender.
I’ve had a couple sets of Older AT3’s on my 99ranger and 96 Silverado. I was impressed with them.
I just ordered a set of these for my 21 Tacoma. I’m hoping they’re just as good as the older style I put on my other trucks.
Put some on my jeep a couple of months ago and just waiting for some good snow to fall in northern Arizona for a fun trip. Hope you are still happy with yours

Great video thanks apologies for the novel below, wondering what you think, would appreciate your opinion. Cooper made the Trails. Also went down tonight, my coopers on hold are in black writing not white, I know that is the least important feature, but like you, I think they look sharp with white letters and was wondering if it is just an ordering thing. 235 70 16s are my size.
Having a tough time choosing tires. The Cooper AT3 4S's, or the Mortormaster X Trail Eliminators. I have seen them both with rebates on the coopers the price is 4 dollars different right now. The x tail looks like a tire cooper has called the discoverer rugged trek that i see online but if you look almost the same. When I press down on both tires (tire by themself 2 hands) the x trail is very stable makes me think once a rim and air are in there it would be more solid, or not. But the softness or flex could be better for when the temp drops, providing more grip. etc. The cooper did at3 4s and had more flex but I imagine that is just a difference in the compound or tread direction, but the Plys are the same🤔...anyways the x trails felt stickier a bit lil more than the Cooper at3 4s, but only a little more....siping both were good 👍 tread patterns were different but the siping on the coopers from yrs. in the past window shopping, I know they go all the way down and know the performance on snow and ice are good something to consider. Even though both tires in ratings are almost identical the x-trails are 100% On Ice'96 on snow, Coopers are 100% on snow 96 or 96 on ice, they're both all-weather all terrains and have the three Peak Mountain snowflakes and like I said the motor Masters X trails are made by Cooper. If you go check out Cooper's rugged Trek discoverer, I don't know how old they are, not considering those at all, just something I noticed, and thought was interesting. So other than both of them being weather rated and made by Cooper it's tuff. I mention don't 't know if this makes sense or a difference, but pressing down on both of them just standing up, and one had a little bit more Flex than the other Lil easier to push down, that was the Cooper at34s, the x-trail being a little harder depressed down, which appealed to me because my passenger snow tires I had last year, sidewall bulged out the side didn't like at all soft didn't' give that stability you have from an A/T tire which also can take bumps and hard terrains like packed ice in the back alleys and side roads, and not be rattled. It was not a good experience, I have had all terrains the entire time owning this vehicle (2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3l Awd, which is why I am going with snow-rated A/T. Maybe that is one reason to go for the Motor Masters, though I don't imagine I would have much of a problem even though these are passenger tires A/Ts with a stronger compound. Stiffer might not be the best either because I was told the light truck tires weren't recommended for my vehicle because would be harder on the suspension, I figured this could be true with the x-trail even though it's designed for the size of the vehicle, but I would rather have the security and stability than a flimsy tire that bulge, I would take that chance, plus the Plys are the same as I mentioned. All in all, they're both about the same and they're both made by Cooper, they both have the snowflake, and both have been tested in the severe Canadian weather that we get in this region. Other than the motor master x-trail eliminators being newer and a little stickier than the Discover a t 3 4, and a little stiffer to push down, I'm at a stalemate. The siping direction and tread pattern are different but seem really good. The pattern of the Cooper is more forward directional, which for stopping and starting might grip better, but the multi-direction of the Motor masters might help in sliding sideways to recapture and regrip, who knows? I know the Cooper AT3 4S are definitely good performers around the globe and have had time because they have been around longer. I have to make a decision in a couple of weeks for my appointment to get them on, but I am going down to Canadian Tire now to put a deposit on both, till I decide... If somebody could help me, I appreciate it let me know about the push test that might not anything to do with anything, and also look at the Cooper rugged Trek I'm not buying or looking at it, but they look similar tread-wise sidewall-wise to the motor Master Eliminator X trails. I've studied and watched and seen the performance online of the AT3 discoverers so I know they are good, but those have been out for 4 years already, and the x-trails might be the newer better version, or Cooper might be holding a little back for their own name brand. All in all, it's going to be City driving. neither Tire would be fine. Appreciate it if you made it this far.

I'm buying 4 of these for my Mitsubishi Shogun although in the UK they are pretty pricey but hopefully worth it.

If Cooper had a 30/9.5r15 I would have gotten the Discoverer AT3 4S, instead I got the TOYO Open Country II.

I wanted general grappler atx because I liked the look of them and I don't do any off roading but my tire guy said because of the ply they wouldn't feel great on my 05 dodge ram 1500. So he suggested the continental contact terrain at and the cooper discoverer at3 I went with the cooper again I liked the look better than the continental. Just got them the other day they seem nice look great shall see how they do
Got a ‘14 Ram 1500 ready for new shoes. Snow here in Toronto is important factor for me, but so is wet traction. You still not having any issues with snow performance after a year of use? (Deciding on these or Pirelli AT+). White lettering looks great. 🇨🇦👍🏼

I have a set of General Grabber ATx that will be needing replaced soon. Looking for a different set that will have better tread life. I pull 7-14k trailers 90% of the time with my Silverado 2500HD. Mostly around town, occasional freeway but also on gravel and dirt roads. What would you recommend?
I would look into LT rated tires, or even 10+ plies. LT tires are stiffer sidewalled, and sometimes used on duallys. I knew a guy who ran 4 LT tires on his Tacoma, and loved them, though they were way heavier duty than he needed.
You should see better treadwear with them. Weight from towing wears them more, and a stiffer sidewall can improve handling too. They may cost more too, but I think it could be difficult finding them in a factory size. You might need to go one size taller, or narrower, maybe wider, it really depends on your size. Hope this helps!
Are these an all season tire? I live in yukon and want all seasons that are actually decent on the icy/snowy roads we have 8 months out of the year?

Assuming you still have the truck and the tires, how have the Cooper's been wearing? Are you still on track to get near the 65k warranty? Any noticeable degradation in performance as they have worn?
Still have them. Still have good tread, I believe I have 35k miles on them, should get to 55k miles at least.

Hello from France ;) . I'm looking for some tires to replace my from factory hankook on my 2017 RAM Hemi. Not a lot of snow here, only a few days per winter, but some long rainy winter weeks. The hankook are very bad for this. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for your input! I used to live where it rains a whole lot, and not much snow at all. I would recommend looking for an All-Season tire, especially one with deep tread and good channels to move the water from out under the tire. Cooper makes some popular all-seasons, same with Michelin, and Falken.

@@rustntrucks yes I do, sorry for the confusion, for some reason I thought you didn't want an All-Terrain tire (moreaggressive tread) this would be a great choice, I used to drive this tire at hwy speeds in rain, do it! 😄👍
@@MTsubfly Thank you ;) Yes I would like this kind of tires and I think this AT3 4s will be my next upgrade. I actually have some hankook dynapro HT from the factory ( 38000km ) , and drive under the rain is dangerous with them. We have a lot of "roundabout" on the road here and they are very slippery with the RAM. Rear end always want to go front 😄.

What load index rating are you running? I see 116's and 120's at a local shop and not sure what is best for a RAM 1500
Pj Haines, I am running the factory size which is 275/60 on 20" rim, on Cooper's website I only see one load rating for that tire (I also confirmed with whats on my truck) its a 115T Standard Load rating of 2679 lbs, which is one step up from the factory Goodyears SRA (114T). On the factory tires I hauled 6k lb trailer over 3k miles, and without a trailer a bed load of about 1800 lbs frequently, with no problems. So far the AT34S have been flawless. Whats your experience with MPG and rolling resistance? I put falken wildpeak on my ED and I lost about 10mph coast on the downhill. I immediately decelerate when I let off the gas around town. I want highway tires that thrive in the snow.
IMO, and I get it, you want two things that don't naturally go together. Fuel efficient hwy tires that do good in snow. I do too. I still love these tires, they have 35k miles on them and have been doing great in the snow and ice the last few weeks. When I commute on the hwy I get usually 25-26 mpg. When I had the factory all seasons on I got 29mpg only 2 times, the whole tank was hwy miles. So I do think it's a good tire. Good tread pattern for snow= added weight and more resistance on dry pavement. When comparing tires, I recommend buying a tire that is severe weather rated (has the peak/snow flake logo, these do), and pat attention to what the tire weighs. Many people don't think of this, but tire weight has a lot to do with efficiency. That's why many stock tires off the lot are lightweight. You can find weight listed on manufacturers websites.

Hey thanks for the video quick question. Living in oregon with all the rain can you tell me how these perform on the highway when the water starts pooling? My current continental terrain contact A/T start hydroplanning at about 50mph. Makes it hard to drive on I5 when it's raining and the water starts filling in those grooves everyone drives in.
I used to commute I5 with these tires, 65 in the rain no problem. I've yet to have a problem in the rain with them. Good question!

Cooper made in USA, Falken is China if that helps. Obviously I've got Coopers on the truck, and very happy with them, but I do have the Falken AT Trails on the Subaru (my other video) its similar to the AT3W. Been happy with it too. For a truck or SUV i would prob go Cooper, but then again if you find a better deal on one vs the other maybe value is more important?
Had Falken a few times on my wrangler not impressed. Definitely not great in snow
Would be my #1 choice if they had the size for my kids 08 jeep liberty limited. Love Cooper. Going falken at trail instead.

@@silverscout2643 great! You will like the tires. Yea, I did all maintenance on time, and I don't drive my vehicles hard. They are well cared for, yet surprisingly at 60k miles my truck did the typical main bearing failure, so I got a new engine under warranty.... sucks. I really wish I could recommend the ecodiesel, I love everything else about the truck.
what psi are you running them at?
40? Can't remember. A touch higher than the door jam says. Wears well, handles well on & off road.
So there quite on the highway in dry conditions?
They are pretty quiet, but there are quieter tires out there if that's what you want.
i just bought a set and didnt even notice noise.
I bought some from a used tire shop they slide all over the road I can't go anywhere with them but they do have 30k miles at least so thats probably the reason

Boyu Chen yes I believe so. But it may be in only select tire sizes.
Try searching your tire size with "BSW" next to the size.
BSW stands for "Black Side Wall"
For Example: Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S 235/65R17XL 108T BSW
MT Thank you. It seems like those AT3 4S are the only good choice on market for snow offroad driving since winter tire are too easy to be damaged on trail.
On every tire you have a choice. Black side on one side and white letters on the other side. You just tell the installer which side you want visible.
@@kurtp5379 Great point I just checked, sure enough one side is black the other is white. The option of mounting would only apply to tires that are non-directional, from what I can tell the Cooper AT3 4S are non-direcitonal.
I actually work at a cooper service center and yes one side is white letters and one side is black. Just tell the person that you want black out and they will let the tire person know
