I love how you can see Lana's personal growth in this demo compared to the released version, in one saying she wants to die and in the other saying she should try to get rid of these problems every day and night. It's also really cool to see this personal growth in "High by the Beach" compared to "Put Me in a Movie", where in "Put Me in a Movie" Lana says: "Lights, camera, action, you know I can't make it on my own" and in HBTB Lana says: "Lights, camera, action, I'll do it on my own"
And in some other songs it is also noticeable, like "ride" compared to "looking for america" and so many others.
The released version with Stevie Nicks is so much more uplifting 💛🌷 but I love this version too. I feel validated by it. I’ve been on a healing journey for so many years, like so many of us; but some days are so much harder than others. I lost my mother suddenly last month and I have been taken to depths of emotion that I never knew a person could feel; and sometimes, it feels like too much. And how nice… how nice, when another person allows you to come as you are in that. Because lately, I’ve been masking my grief outwardly as I see how uncomfortable it makes some people feel. And I want to crawl out of my skin most days. And scream. I want them to go away and leave me alone to feel my feelings. And so; walks and relatable music seems to be one of very few remedies right now. I don’t want to resist the lows through perceived disapproval and shock- I know I have to go through them. And I think music gives us space for that; which I feel so grateful for. Along with your shared wisdom. Thank you Mere 🙏🏻💛
I'm sorry for everything you've been through and are still going through. It will get better, allow yourself to feel everything, pain, sadness, longing, loss and grief. You are incredible, remember that.

I suggested this last Lana video, sorry it made u feel so much 😭 the Stevie Nicks one really is different, and I feel like gives hope to anyone who has struggled w depression/SI. Idk how long you’ve been a Lana fan, but I was there in 2014 pre-ultraviolence, and you could see how much she was going through and a lot of her fanbase were genuinely worried for her safety, especially after the guardian interview. So to see her in the last few years, talking about how happy she is, with great friends & chosen family makes me so emotional 🥲
Lana has so much uplifting music too for when you're feeling like her sad songs are too much -- you should listen to sweet or paris, texas, I think you'd love those ones and find them comforting

This specific version of the song is about an interview that take place in 2014 during which the person had lured her into a false sense of security with sinister intentions to get a clickbait headline out of her. They kept pestering her about death & stuff till she said "I wish I was dead already". It was a very depressing time in her life, but she wasn't s*icidal or anything like that. People were upset with what she said and she was traumatised/furious. She still has a fear of being misunderstood or taken out of context which comes up in her interviews or music. 3 years later when she was in a better place, she changed the lyrics to a more uplifting version and got Stevie Nicks on it. :)

I think the demo is about Lana being gaslit by her s.o. who weaponized her depression to make her feel "crazy" and shift all the blame onto her. Also, it may be a response to vicious media treatment of Lana when she was depressed (people mocking her and making comments like "poor little rich girl")
The demo is giving me the impression of a person who feels like no one notices their pain and is desperately reaching for, at least, some sort of validation
I love both versions equally btw but the released one definitely shows Lana's personal growth (and Stevie singing the second verse is giving me life ❤)
