The fair thing for people that rich to do would be to donate about 99% of their money to nonprofits, but they don’t come anywhere close to fairness. But most Americans are rich by the standards of Jesus and most of them are also rich by global standards now, and the majority of Americans also don’t come close to donating enough. That includes the majority of Christian Americans. There is a good book about that named: the hole in our gospel. The title refers to that if you were to cut out all of the passages in the Bible that refer to helping the needy, especially the poor, there would be a hole in the Bible. It is also a metaphorical hole in the gospel because giving high amounts to help the poor is central in the gospel. But it has been so ignored, minimized and watered down that our understanding of the gospels has a huge hole in it.
