Donald Trump was right when he said, "The last Democrat not to attend this important event was Walter Mondale. And it did not go very well for him. He lost 49 states, and he won one: Minnesota. So I said there's no way I'm missing it." And, he did win the 2024 Presidential Election. :)
Why is this event so important? Is Washington DC in the lap of Rome and if you kneel to the Archbishop, you get the nod as president?
@MartyMcflyist people will have to listen to the presidents comments on everything important for four years at least, makes sense to lean to someone who isnt at least totally boring while speaking if not entertaining the best. imo that is also one main reason the kennedy hasnt been making it in any sense, it cost more concentration to listen to him then to other politicians and to somewhat listen at all after going through a whole day of advertising and other peoples opinions takes the most out of most commoners
@@MartyMcflyist I was initially just making light of the reactions from those unhappy with Trump’s victory. But since you asked, here are my two cents:
First, Rome has no involvement in the U.S. election. Second, this is an annual Catholic fundraising event that supports both the church and various Catholic charities in New York. Third, according to PRRI, Catholic voters make up about 25% to 27% of the U.S. electorate. So, for the candidates, it just makes sense for them to attend this event if they intend to appeal to Catholic voters.Fourth, for nearly 80 years, it has been a tradition for presidential candidates to attend this event, temporarily set aside their differences, and share lighthearted jabs at one another.
This event speaks to the undecided voter. There used to be a margin of pro life democrats. They have abandoned us. It's the religious hippie liberals. Ya we wanna have fun and let ppl live their lives free from judgment. But you are basically promoting boys in girls sports and promiscuous lifestyles that lead to abortions. What happened to safe legal and rare! Now it's a form of birth control! We all know it's a baby. And I understand a circumstance where it is needed. But I also know women with 5+ abortions. It is a total turn off. ( For the ppl that want to comment on this, I'm a 2016 Bernie supporter. The left pushed me away when they robbed that man his place. Plus, I doubt many Catholic voters even know about this event, and they shouldn't be voting based on if a president attended a Catholic event, should be on policy. Some of the things he's said and done, Bloomberg is not a good guy. Think he's the one that mandated Soft drink maximum sizes in NY if I'm not mistaken. But he has said a lot of sinister things about the control he thinks "experts" and the elites need to have.
His remarks to Eric Adams were legendary. After listening to his interviews with Scultz and PBD I'm starting to understand him more and more. He really didn't have any idea the depth of the corruption in the government until what they did to him with the "Russian collusion" stuff. He knew they'd go after him, but he had no idea. On PBD he talked about how he was actively working to get things done to help various people and groups, and then they turned on him and made false accusations about him. He couldn't understand why they would do that when he treated them how he would want to be treated. The media say he wants sycophants but that's not the case. He wants to get the job done. He expects that when you work with people, they show you some good will.
This speech shows that in droves. I voted third party against Trump in 2016. I supported him in 2020 because I thought he was trying and would be better than Biden. Now I'm 100% on the side of Trump. First politician I've supported so vigorously and I will keep supporting him. The media, CSPAN included, need to give themselves a good hard look in the mirror and stop acting like the Democrats have clean hands.

You nailed it. Trump thought that after winning in 2016 that there would be some kind of consolidation behind him of support. It didn't happen, of course, and the rest is history. I have a friend who is a leftist/Marxist-type intellectual who thought the Democrats were stupid to not try to co-opt Trump. To try to work with him and get things done, as he thought that Trump would have been a willing participant with them. But instead they went all-out war against him, giving Trump no option but to "fight fight fight" from the corner they'd painted him into.
Here's another thing to think about: Trump was impeached twice! Twice! And for what? Nobody ever talks about the substance of those impeachments anymore. You'd think it would be the first thing off the lips of the Dems pushing Biden (and now Harris) for president, but nobody ever cites the impeachments. Why? Because everybody knows what "trumped up" BS the impeachments were. Much like Covid, which also isn't brought up against Trump. We're living in a world of total media manipulation that serves the left almost entirely exclusively. Reality conforms to their narratives. That's why Musk taking over Twitter was such a massive deal.

Praised Hitler: Kelly said that Trump repeatedly stated that Hitler did "some good things".
Contempt For our Democracy: Kelly stated that Trump "has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution and rule of law. God help us”
Unfit for Office: John Kelly reportedly said that Trump is “the most flawed person” he’s ever known and believed that Trump was unfit for office.
Lack of Discipline: Kelly criticized Trump for his lack of discipline and failure to focus on important matters, claiming Trump often made decisions based on personal grievances rather than national interest.
Undermining the Rule of Law: Kelly was disturbed by Trump’s attempts to undermine the rule of law and his repeated attacks on institutions like the FBI, intelligence agencies, and the military.
Disrespecting Veterans: According to reports, Kelly was deeply upset by Trump’s disrespectful remarks about military service members. Trump allegedly referred to American war dead as “losers” and “suckers” during a 2018 trip to France, where Trump declined to visit a cemetery for U.S. soldiers. 2. Mark Esper (Former Trump Secretary of Defense)
Fascist: Esper said that Trump has "inclinations" towards "fascism".
Dangerous Decisions: In his memoir “A Sacred Oath,” Esper called Trump a danger to democracy and revealed that Trump frequently suggested dangerous or illegal actions, such as shooting protesters, launching missiles at Mexico to "destroy the drug labs," and more.
Military for Political Purposes: Esper opposed Trump’s desire to use the military for political purposes, especially in 2020 during the protests following George Floyd’s murder. Esper publicly opposed Trump’s plan to invoke the Insurrection Act to deploy the military against U.S. citizens protesting in American cities.
Leadership Failure: Esper described Trump as erratic and unreliable when it came to critical defense decisions. He also noted that Trump did not take criticism well, even when it was meant to inform better decisions.
Ignoring Expert Advice: Esper said that Trump often ignored the advice of top military and defense officials in favor of pursuing his instincts, which Esper believed were frequently reckless.
3. Mark Milley (Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump)
Facist: Milley stated that "Trump is a fascist to the core".
Danger: Milley stated that Trump was a 'The most dangerous person to this country.'
Fears of a Coup: Milley reportedly feared that Trump might attempt to overturn the 2020 election results and remain in power illegally. According to reports, Milley took steps to ensure that the military would not be used to support any unconstitutional efforts to keep Trump in office, and he reportedly compared Trump's behavior to that of Hitler in the lead-up to the rise of Nazi Germany.
Concerns about Trump's Mental Stability: Milley, according to some reports, was concerned about Trump’s mental stability in the final days of his presidency, particularly after the January 6 Capitol insurrection.
Politicizing the Military: Milley strongly opposed Trump's efforts to politicize the military. He publicly apologized for participating in a photo op with Trump at Lafayette Square after peaceful protesters were cleared by law enforcement. Milley stated that his involvement in the event "created the perception of the military involved in domestic politics."

4. John Bolton (Former National Security Adviser)
Incompetence and Recklessness: In his book “The Room Where It Happened,” Bolton portrayed Trump as incompetent, reckless, and unfit for office. He wrote that Trump often lacked a basic understanding of international issues and made decisions based on personal or political gain rather than national security.
"Deals" with Dictators: Bolton accused Trump of having authoritarian sympathies and trying to ingratiate himself with dictators, such as North Korea’s Kim Jong-un and Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Bolton revealed that Trump asked China’s President Xi Jinping for help with his re-election by purchasing U.S. agricultural products.

Misuse of Power: Bolton claimed Trump attempted to use foreign policy for personal gain, particularly with Ukraine. Bolton said Trump tied aid to Ukraine to investigations into Joe Biden and his son Hunter, which was a key issue in Trump’s first impeachment.
