    ABSOLUTELY AWESOME James :-)
    Being a Huge Rally fan,
This car is one of the 'Holy Grail' cars, and manufacturers, and growing up through the 70s-80's-90's and onwards these are such an icon, and as you said, No one has yet to ever match their manufacturers success through the years :-)
    It's a car I always wished I'd owned,
Having gone through Mk1, 2,3,4 & Cosworth Escorts, Capri's, Sierra Cosworth's, Peugeot 205's, and on to the likes of Subaru WRX STI's :-)
And I really wished I'd picked one of these up way back when :-)
So Thank you so much for this content, and video :-)
It's an awesome video series, and really engaging to the audience :-)
    Keep it up James,
You're doing an amazing job with ALL your content :-)
And a MASSIVE congratulations to you and the Mrs on your New life changing arrival :-)
    Cheers,
    Mark.

Love the classics series. But a few facts about the Delta.
First introduced 1979 as a family hatch.
The Delta S4 introduced in 1985 at the last round of the WRC to compete in Group B, it was only related in name. It had a space frame chassis with 1759cc engine, mid mounted with supercharger and turbo. In 1986 due to accidents Group B was banned.
Needing a car to compete in 1987, that was based on a road variant, and having to build 5000 needed for the new regs of Group A. Lancia took the basic Delta hatch and added 4wd and a 2 litre turbo engine called the Delta HF 4wd.
After taking the championship in 1987, Lancia introduced the first Integrale at the 3rd round of the championship in 1988. The Integrale brought the iconic flared arches to the Delta, to allow bigger wheels, brakes and increased suspension travel. First as an 8v, then 16v, then the Evoluzione. The Delta taking 6 WRC constructors titles.

Just to add a bit of information to your post, in 1982 Lancia showed at the Turin Motor Show a Delta 1.6 liter turbo with 4wd, was a running prototype used to have a taste of the possible market, it was also tested by the press, however 4wd was very different from the 1986 Delta HF 4wd that got a 3 Torsen differential system derived from the S4 system.

Love this car so much! The Delta Integrale wasn't ever a Group B car though, the Delta S4 was derived from the 037 really, then when Group A replaced Group B, that's when Lancia rallied the Integrale.
And CONGRATS on the baby boy!

    • @aproductofboredom
      @aproductofboredom 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes it was. The delta s4 was a silhouette representation of the road going delta. Much like every other group b car was. The delta(tipo 83l) is what was the s4 and the delta hf intergrale was an update and a special version of the original delta so he is 100% correct.

@@aproductofboredom The Lancia Delta S4 Stradale was the homologation for the Group B regulations. James suggests the Delta Integrale was a Group B car, the S4 was the Group B car and a development from the 037. The S4 was somewhat turned into Delta Integrale HF to meet Group A regs, the car James is in

I have had my evo 2 for 16 years, as far as I know the only difference mechanically is the final edition springs and rear strut brace( i have the brace in my car, bought from the factory when the parts were being sold off)..... the club Italia had a different chip and produced more power depending on the original owners requirements, and the viola prototype, which had more power, 240 hp according to Werners book.... and he bought the viola from Maggiora who built it.

I will never forget driving on the motorway on a dry day and seeing an Evo 2 sliding its rear tyres in 3rd gear in the utmost elegant style. What an amazing car alongside the Stratos. Check out Lancia Delta in Wikipedia to get the true story.
Delta was introduced in 1979 as a ”more luxurious Fiat Ritmo”.
The Integrale didn’t exist until 1988 when it replaced the Delta HF 4x4 in group A rallying. The Delta used in Group B 1985-86 was the entirely different, mid-engined, tubular-framed Delta S4. THAT one had 500+ hp.
The base Delta & Delta Integrale was built on the Fiat Ritmo/Strada-platform (no bad thing, mind).

I used an Evo 2 Integrale as a daily driver for close to two years. Did nearly 20K miles in it. Sold it to change to a 993 4S in the end. Both had one advantage for UK driving that james touched on - size. 991 turbos, 4s or 4gts are technically better daily drivers, but in the narrow roads of Devon, the integrale and the 993 were betterin the real world because you can use more of the performance more of the time. They fit easily where those other cars become a handful.
I think 997s were peak B road blast cars for the UK. I appreciate whet newer stuff offers, but fitting the road adds so much to the confidence you have as a driver, and it seems to be ignored a lot of the time.

I owned a winner red Evo1 for 6 years and did the best part of 60,000 miles in it! Back in the late 90's it was genuinely a fast car, and a good drive. But today, in all honestly, it'd be really not that great. Due to the mass distribution (open the bonnet at look!) they fundamentally understeer a lot under power(forget all those GrpA dreams of going everywhere looking out the side windows) and unfortunately, that can't be tuned out unless you stiffen the (jelly like) bodyshell with a full cage and forest plating pack. I tried everything on mine, including pretty radical rear suspension geo and even double rear arbs and never got it to handle properly.
On the flip side the car is impossible to park and walk away from without a backwards look, and renders even pretty special cars as invisible by it's shear presence of reputation (despite the road car nowhere near living up to that rep set by the highly mod'd rally cars). It's also a car that other drivers seem to respect. Unlike the later herd of 4wd turbo nutters (i'm looking at you scooby and evo boost heads!!) you get let out of junctions and get a friendly wave when you overtake!
Would i own another? Well maybe, but i'd want to strip it to a bare shell and carry out significant but subtle strengthening to the bodyshell, which given their prices these days would be a significant expense......

In the late nineties, my brother-in-law lent me his 16V Integrale for an hour and the experience of that drive will remain with me forever. Just found your channel. The Delta integrale is my favourite car...ever... I'm 21, never seen them racing, never seen them in the street. But the story and development behind it it's amazing. I'm particularly fond of cars from the 80's and 90's (again, even if I wasn't around back then). In fact my car is a 1996 Alfa 145 Cloverleaf, and I love it. There's something about modern cars, they lack personality, individuality. They are too sterile, they've been turned into appliances.
It's great to hear that you'll be introducing your son to older cars. Some cars feel "alive" even from the passenger seat, I'm pretty sure the Delta does.

The Lancia Delta Integrale Final Edition 👌🏻 being driven around the U.k roads. What a joy to watch your video of such a rare event. Very few I believe imported in the U.k. One was for sale on a well know auction site for 80k 😱. A true icon in the motoring world along with the highest respect to its Marque for its rally heritage. The Delta Intergrale was a Familiar site at the Porsche dealership I worked at back in the day. The owners backup vehicle of choice out of the fair weather session. Again testament to its point to point capability’s.
Mr JWW having reviewed the last of the Delta legend legacy in road going trim, it would be nice to review the start. The Lancia Delta S4 Stradale !
Ultimately the rarest of all road trim deltas. 1.8 Litre turbocharged & supercharged four cylinder. Massively detuned to 250 Bhp for the road. 200 Required to be built to satisfy the then Group B Homologation rules. Unconfirmed reports that the numbers were far less for all Group B road builds !
I believe as little as 2 exist currently in the U.k 🤔 One popped up at an auction in Italy with less than a 1000 miles on the clock !
They carry a price tag of £250,000 + so only for the fortunate few !
To finish on a car to keep forever from the 80 / 90’s. Wow such Choice. Lancia Thema 8.32, Fiat Strada Abarth 130 TC, Fiat Uno Turbo’ I.e, Audi RS2 Avant, Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, Vauxhall Lotus Carlton, Porsche 959, Ferrari 288 GTO, Bmw M1. You can see my list is endless from mild to wild.
Such a fantastic time in motoring !

Great assessment of one of motoring's icons! I remember test driving one of these, and before I took over, the salesman took a corner at a speed that I was convinced would shoot us into the scenery. Just as I was lowering my head between my legs to kiss my arse goodbye, he floored it, and with a slight flick of the wrist at the same time, the Intergrale just powered out of the corner.... 4-wheel drifting...in the wet. Loved it, along with the front end view. Sweet!

BTW Congratulations both of you. Just watched this for the second time. It is the history, the feel and that fact that you had o get to know the cars back then to get the most from them. But once you did then the excitement of the drive was like nothing else, You are inspiring me to want to get something from back in my era growing up. Sierra Cosworth, XR2/3, RS turbo, Corrado VR6, Peugeot GTi 1.9/GT turbo/rallye, classic impreza turbo/P1/RB5 etc. Lotus Carlton......

Many congrats on your new baby boy.
I still remember as a youngster (I'm now early 50's) walking to and from primary school and occasionally seeing a 911. Where I grew up they were rarer than hen's teeth so whilst it was nothing special in the wider world, that was the one for me. For your lad, what could be better than the current 991.2 GT3 Touring? By the time he comes of age, it will be firmly routed as a classic. That, or a SWB Quattro which will hopefully appear in this series soon!!

Sign this man up for a TV car show - aka Top Gear. This is such a fantastic review of an iconic Group 'B' car which real enthusiasm and style, you are a natural. I love these cars from this era, they are true drivers cars, and put a huge grin on your face. The Mitsubishi Tommi Mac and Subaru Impreza 22B/P1 are also in that same league. James, have a look on 4Star Classics as they have an identical car for sale at a pricey sum of £115k. Bargin I think! But on a serious note, a long term keeper with baby in mind, what about a modern day hatch. I read in the letters section of the latest issue of Evo mag that a a man sold his RS3 hatch for a Golf R as it was more fun more of them time and cheaper to run. Future cars to review in this series, you have to review a fast Ford - Escort RS Cossie or Sierra RS500 Cossie.

I love that you compared it to the F40. Just the other day I watched Jay Leno's Garage and he said the exact same thing about the Lancia Stradale! It's obvious that Enzo, in his sadly last involvement of a Ferrari model, managed to encompass EVERYTHING that made these classics so enjoyable to drive.
