Always the delta for me when I was about 14 the first car I ever drove was a 1.3 5dr I'd imagine rarer than a intergralle now

But, people forget just how light cars like the Integrale was, compared to modern cars - 218hp enough for sub-6 seconds to 60.
Love hearing Tiff tell the stories of racing days of yore. The automotive racing history he shares is lovely and brings back fond memories of watching the sport back then.

Love the history lessons from Tiff...bring back memories of old when the Scooby, Evo and Celica ST205 were tearing the tarmac in Msia...that was when i first saw Colin McRae and Kenneth Eriksson...
Years later i finally bought an Evo...just so that I can cherish the rally of yesteryear...Tq guys...

Anyway here is a message for Tiff : I really hated the Group-B banning because after Group-B we all suppose to have the Group-S witch they were literally mid-engines 4x4 PROTOTYPES of Supercars at WRC rally : Audi Quattro group-S, Lancia ECV 2, Peugeot Quasar, BMW M1, Ferrari 288 GTO, Seat Ibiza BiMotor, Lancia Beta S2 4x4, Opel Kadett 4x4 GSi, Toyota MR2 222D 4x4, Mazda RXT7-S 4x4, Lada Samara EVA 4x4, FSO Strato-Polonez 4x4, and finally but not as less impressive the Ford RS 200 Group-S Evolution recreated by it's father John Wheeler the man behind Ford RS 200.. ;0)

I've never been a great fan of Tiff Needell but I have to respect his encyclopedic knowledge of cars.
The Bugeye Impreza is very underrated and as a result hugely undervalued. Find a decent one at reasonable money while you still can!

It's a lot but I absolutely love the gauge cluster on that Delta Integrale.
That throbbing flat four from the Subaru is so nice to listen. Have to say I love that bug-eye look ( Corolla had one too ) more so than the later versions.
Next time test drive new WRC warriors Toyota Yaris GR and upcoming 2020 Hyundai i20 N.

I agree, love the fussy old clusters. I like the bugeye front too. The blob eye actually looks too bulbous to me at the front. Hawkeye after was better but I love a bugeye sti! Great cars really. I had a very rare JDM bugeye sti wagon which was awesome.
Lancia everyday of the week. Iconic in it's form & function.

The comparison no one asked for but everyone wanted!! It's really difficult to choose between the Delta and the Impreza but I'm leaning towards the Subaru just because I grew up in the late 90s watching the Impreza slaying WRC.

The Integrale is also a car of the 90’s 👍🏻
And 80's my first integrale was an 89' the original Hf 4wd was 86", the integrale took over in 87'.

Subaru for me. Ever since I saw an impreza on a rally stage I was instantly hooked. The sound, the looks, just an awesome machine.

I grew up during the era of Colin McRae, Petter Solberg, and Richard Burns. As an 11 year old, I got the chance to go watch the Welsh rally. We sat on a grass verge overlooking the track, drank tea, and every so often the stewards whistle would go off, and you'd hear a load of downshifts, anti-lag popping away, and then suddenly a bright blue Impreza or a battle scarred Focus would come out of the dark and four-wheel drift past, grab traction and shoot out of the corner. To go from playing Colin McRae Rally on my playstation to seeing it all happen infront of me was amazing.
I also had this VHS tape talking about the Group B era and earlier, and that was when I found out about 'Climb Dance' showing Ari Vatanen driving a Peugeot 405 T16 during Pikes Peak in 1988.
I lost interest the moment McRae's death was announced.

Hi guys. Interesting video. I rally myself so it’s always good to see a video on the homologation road cars. I’ve just bought the 2002 Porsche 996 turbo that Richard Burns bought from new after he won the WRC on 2001. So that’s quite a special connection for me.

The similarities between the GD and the Integrale in the fenders are pretty cool - the Impreza was definitely inspired by the Integrale

The Lancia is of course the greatest, but I have loved the bugeye WRX design since it launched and it has only improved with age. Hugely underrated.
I loved when tiff told the stories about rally. He is like a grandpa who tells cool stories and is very excited to tell them, and i' m like a kid who loves listening to him

I'm not old enough to see the Lancia Integrale dominate during Group A rally but a lot of my time in younger years was spent watching Solberg on the telly driving the pants off the various WRXs. I never really got the hate for the Bugeye WRX, for me it was the MY06-07 Hawkeye that was the ugly one of the GDB Impreza.

As a 40 year old car enthusiast i am a bit shocked about Paul. A professional petrolhead of his age not beeing able to name Juha Kankunnen and Mikki Biasion? And them beeing less known? Maybe in Britain, but not in continental europe. (at least among rallye fans) Kankunnen for example was Richard Burns' Teammate at Subaru and was 4 times World Rallye Champion and won the Paris Dakar once!

When the various Group A Delta's were being homologated the Build Number required Was 5000 in a year, 2500 came in after 1992.

I live in the area you guys are testing the cars to,i can often be found on those roads at weekends (Mendips/Cheddar direction) blasting around in my 400+bhp Mitsubishi Evo,such great fun and a perfect car for those roads.

I had that same Prodrive Impreza in black. It didn’t look too bad at all in the metal. Mine was the PPP version so over 300 bhp and 0-62 in 4.52 seconds 🚀

I owned a winner red Evo 1 'grale for 6 years in the late 1990's :-) A car that you could park next to even the most exotic supercar, and people would still stop and point! Not actually that great to drive, or that fast in std road trim, but a car that you couldn't ever park and walk away from without a look back over your shoulder just to see how it looked.........

The Integrale was a monster of rallying, but as a road car I'm not so sure. I've known three in the flesh and drove two of them a fair bit. All I can say is thankfully I didn't own them(save for being able to sell one now value wise). Build quality was an Italian cliché, the driving position was an even bigger Italian cliché(short legs, arms like a gibbon required and the steering wheel was at a silly angle). Reliability was "interesting", as were the dials. The upside down nature was quirky, but on any sort of rough road they bounced around like mad. Looks great, fantastic history, a lovely car to drive for an hour yes, if it didn't crap itself, but...
The Subaru was the far better bet as an owners and drivers car(an earlier model). In my humble anyway.

When my Dad worked for Mitsubishi they had an event where Richard Burns & Colin Blower were taking people out for fast laps in the then new Evo VI, I asked my Dad to get Richard's autograph, I still have it somewhere in the spare room.

I jad the dubious honour of having to go and speak with him at the Royal Gwent Hospital in export in my capacity as a traffic officer in the local police force when he felt ill whilst driving en route to Cardiff for the Rally GB. Felt incredibly cheeky asking for his autograph but glad I did, its probably my most prized piece of memorabilia. After Tiff's signed book of course..
