    I've been looking at making a video on custom keyboards - is anyone interested? I've got a Ducky One 2 TKL for a prebuilt, two at $220-255, one at $300, one at $450, one at $570 and potentially one at $635 but I'm still deciding. It would show off what makes custom keyboards good and so expensive, and mods you can do to prebuilt keyboards to improve them.

      @@sexyyoda7567 I assume you mean why I'm hesitant on buying the $635 one. That one is the Infinitum (geekhack.org/index.php?topic=103574.0). It's not exotic enough to justify that price tag for me. Compared to the Time 80 Reforged, that's easily worth $480, or $570 since I ordered it with brass instead of aluminum (geekhack.org/index.php?topic=107276.0).
      If you mean why I'm hesitating on making a video, it's because these are very expensive. Coupled with the mentality that a keyboard is "just a keyboard", I thought I'd gauge interest before continuing. Keep in mind I need to pay for all of this myself, and I'm currently looking at like 9 grand.

    This laptop is pretty dope. Ive got the exact spec you’ve reviewed. I managed to access the bio and unlock undervolting. As well as running the GPU at a lower clock speed and not experiencing any performance drops that i can notice. The 240hz screen is freaking amazing. Its a blessing and a bad thing because now when i look at anything monitor thats at a lower refresh rate, its a stunning difference!!

    You really need to review the MSI GE66 Raider! I feel like there are a lot of boxy modern gaming laptops in the market right now, the GE66 is its own modern spin on the gamer aesthetic, reminiscent of the previous Alienware generation. MSI really came through in 2020, generally a company I would have avoided in the past due to build quality but ended up buying my first gaming laptop from them this year.

      I don't accept any money from anyone, if you are wondering. The only money I've made is from TH-cam ads. In this case, this GS66 is actually a retail unit, not a review unit. Less than a handful of the laptops I've reviewed were review units, and all of them made it clear before sending me one that I had to give it back after a few weeks.
      MSI actually ghosted me without saying anything so I'm not sure if they think I'm being too critical, but I can get their popular laptops one way or another.

    "no space next to the keyboard for speakers"
    laughs in razer blade, seriously though. It's possible it's just very difficult and expensive to do it. Next to the battery seems like a good compromise. Bottom firing speakers are awful if you're someone who likes to play on soft surfaces, like a bed. As the speaker will just be entirely inaudible (even with a laptop stand, as the surface still absorbs all the sound).

    • @InfinityLabsTech
      @InfinityLabsTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If I'm understanding you correctly, the reason the Blade 15 can do it is because they only have rear exhaust vents. Laptops with side exhaust have extra heat pipes for additional cooling. How big of an improvement they make, I'm not really sure. But yeah, side exhaust improves thermals at the cost of removing any room for speakers beside the keyboard. That's why I said thermals > speakers; it's a trade off (without some next level engineering, of course).
      ALTHOUGH, the Surface Laptop projects from the keyboard and they sound really good. Top 3-5 laptop speakers, IMO. That's gotta be difficult to engineer, so you're right there. But the Advance Model starts at like $2600 so they should have plenty of money for R&D.

    @FineBakedPastry 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shift key on the right is wrong: You can't put arrow up to the right of the shift key. Razer had that for a bit and they finally fixed it in the latest design. My Logitech keyboard that I use for my htpc has that too, and it's nearly impossible to type correctly. Why are arrow keys so huge? Some say it's because it's a gaming PC, but games all use WASD now days.

    • @InfinityLabsTech
      @InfinityLabsTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Uh no, the issue with the Blade's right shift key is they put the up arrow between the ? and shift, it was on the left not right. It goes against proper touch typing, this one doesn't. For me to reach the up arrow with my pinky while on the home row takes considerable stretching. I have yet to come across a typing style that requires a full length 2.75u right shift.
      If this is what your Logitech keyboard looks like, that's not 75%.
      www.logitech.com/en-us/product/wireless-touch-keyboard-k400r
      This is what the 75% layout looks like. The right shift is shortened 1u from the right side: novelkeys.xyz/products/7v-keyboard-gb

    • @FineBakedPastry
      @FineBakedPastry 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InfinityLabsTech I use a Dell laptop for work and I push the shift my with right pinkie. The point on the key that I press is right above the arrow key. If there was an arrow key there, I would be going up one line instead of putting capital letters.

    • @InfinityLabsTech
      @InfinityLabsTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FineBakedPastry That's true, but 75% shifts the entire arrow cluster one unit to the right. The layout you're talking about fits in a 60% form factor, the layout I'm talking about adds 1 extra column to the right to accommodate that right arrow key. The right shift's placement remains the same, you're just taking off a standard 1u key like the 'a' key's worth of space from the right.

However, performance on current gaming laptops is already so good that I don't consider it to be much of a factor anymore. Having a bright and fast screen, comfy keyboard and a soft touch finish on the interior surface matters way more than the 5-10% performance difference between different laptops running the same GPU.

    If only the fugly msi logo on the bottom screen bezel was more discrete, like the logo on the lid... that's a dealbreaker for me :/
    The tacky plastic on the edges are also a crying shame, considering how the rest of the build quality is premium and full aluminium. I guess next year Msi may finally get this this right.

    Big pass. I've learned my lesson on hinges and plastic laptop builds. That hinge area looks nice but not very long lasting. Likely the pulling open of the screen will cause failure to occur where the screws hold the hinges to the insides of the laptop, in a year or two. I have a thicker plastic MSI GT65 with thicker hinge areas. Not as pretty but it's about 6 years old and going strong. I've had pretty small hinge laptops and the hinges always failed. Small hinges like that should be on metal cases or for people that have cash to burn.

      That's the thing right, it's not really impressive just hearing about advanced tech until you experience it yourself. It may not be a necessity, but it's a big quality of life improvement to not have to rely on headphones for "good" audio quality. For me, I hate using headphones in general because my head is really sensitive to weight. Even the HD6XX and the ESP 95X get painful after an hour of wearing them. That's why I value speakers so much.
      I remember when I used the Mac Pro, that thing was able to cool 285W on the CPU with the fans basically idling at around 500-700 RPM at 86C. Literally silent until you brought your ear around a foot away from the fans; not even a faint humming from the motors. Ever since then I've been interested in building a desktop with a bunch of Noctua fans for an absolutely silent build. But since my work is fairly resource lightweight, I haven't been able to justify a new build yet. Maybe in the future.

      If you do decide to build one, I would love it if you could make a video on it. I think it'd be pretty fun to watch. I've never really valued the quietness of the fans until I have a roommate.

    • @InfinityLabsTech
      @InfinityLabsTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nunnil1655 Honestly, I'm not too sure. I think small form factor PCs would be interesting, but I'm not sure about a mid-ATX build. For me, I'm a developer so my build would look something like a Core i5, 64GB RAM and some basic GPU like an RX 580 for macOS support. Decent CPU and GPU for my video editing, and lots of memory for all the browser tabs filled with documentation for coding. Safari and Firefox are just as memory intensive as Chrome from my experience, bit strange.
      Maybe I'll consider an ITX case if I can find a way to make it 100% silent under light use, but mid-ATX gives me more fans which would compensate for the very low RPMs.

    I have the MSI GS66 and sound is the worst I've ever heard! Cooling system is pretty good, but requires some tweaks in Dragon Center, because it's too loud at silent mode. I undervolted CPU (-0.125V), disable turbo boost and allow Windows to parking cores. This tweaks allows me set cooler speed to 0 at silent/battery mode, and CPU temperature decreased to 40-50°C range (before 60+).

      Jose Duarte Van Helsing other reviews said that the battery, although being massive, does not keep its promises and only gives average use time. the omen runs cooler, is still really fast and is way less expensive for the same specs (with i7 plus rtx 2060 where I live there is a difference of 500 euros). the display of the msi is better and the build quality as well (which is expected at that price point).
