      They don’t need to ask. This isn’t a democracy. It’s a democratically elected republic. The only time that we can directly influence the country is when we vote for who to elect. Other than that, it’s out of our hands. If you don’t like that your senator didn’t ask what his/her constituents wanted, tell them, or don’t vote for them in the next election.
      It’s not their duty to contact you. It’s your duty to contact them on the matters that mean the most to you. Write to your representatives, and let them know what you think. That’s how it works.

      @@patrickc1508 I'm aware. I was being partly facetious and partly sarcastic. Actually, some of our representatives do ask for feedback. They send out polls via email to their constituents. I'm fully aware that neither of my senators did so. I'm actually irritated that they're messing around with this "issue" right now. Our world is going up in flames and they're making DST "permanent" as though this hasn't been tried before. 😒 I'd like to fire them all immediately. It's agony to wait so long to vote them out.
      We actually have ways built into the system to stop representatives from doing what they're doing. It requires vigilance and courage and unity. They've done everything they can to pit us against one another, but unity in our common rights can stop them if we start paying attention and parrying their actions. I know it's a longshot in our indifferent and selfish society, but I still believe in the old American spirit like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

      @Speedj2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      how much the clock matches your so-called "natural" rhythm is highly subjective and generally dependent on where you are within your timezone and your proximity to a coastline. everyone's daylight schedule is different regardless of which option we choose. Nature wont be changing at all. if you need to locally adjust your work and school schedules to fit your natural clock then thats an issue that needs to be tackled at the local level anyway. personally I dont see how 4am to 7pm daylight hours during the summer would be considered more natural. either way, I think the most important thing is to stop shifting the clocks. I definitely prefer DST but either way, if we stop shifting the clocks we can then settle on a schedule that works for everyone locally, and if our local community needs to push for schedule changes because they decided on standard-time year round, then I guess we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

      @Mercy:
      It is already set that way with standard time.
      8:00am start time for school during standard time means it is daylight out.
      If they make DST permanent that means school would have to start at 9:00am, which would mean parents would lose an hour of work every day, which would mean their income would go down which would mean they couldn't afford the needs of their family when they already struggle to meet those needs, which could result in families losing their homes or being evicted from the rental home.
      Businesses are not going to move the work day to a start time of 9:00am, neither are they going to keep the doors open an extra hour so employees can make up the hour they lost getting their kids to school at 9:00am when the sun is finally up.

    I live in a state that is on a time zone boarder. And 1 hour literally makes no difference for the school children. I don’t see any statistics that my state has a higher death rate for school aged children because they get up an hour earlier than the next.
    And news flash, it’s still dark in the neighboring states when the bus comes.
    This is just people being contrary to personal preference. You want to bring an “expert” on your news station to influence our preferences than at least have the decency of showing your viewers the data that supports your case.
    It shouldn’t be too hard. Some states even support two time zones.
    Let’s not forget the students of Alaska. Should the one hour of sunlight they have be shifted so it lines up with the commute to school or commute home???!

    If they do this it won't last long, because people will be mad about kids going to school in the pitch black for so long- it's the same thing that happened last time. Daylight savings time for part of the year works better than the alternative.

    • @vicepresidentmikepence889

      Permanent daylight savings time is INSANITY. It was tried one before, in the seventies. After people complained about their kids walking to school in the pitch black, it quickly went back to switching the clock.
      There are three options
      1. Get rid if DST, which stinks, because we get early dark summer evenings
      2. Keep DST year round, which stinks because we get late, dark winter mornings
      3. Change the clock every 6 months, like we do now.
      I vote for three..losing one hour sleep is a VERY SMALL PRICE TO PAY for daylight summer evenings and no late dark winter mornings

    I'm very ready for this. DST was started in 1919 (with only 6 months and was extended to 8 months) as a way for us save energy, but Americans don't live on the same schedule as they did in 1919. We are a society that runs 24/7. People stay up longer and they're out more late at night, especially in larger cities. For those of us with seasonal depression, more daylight in the evening would be very beneficial.

    Everything she said just reinforced the reasons why DST is the time to stick to. Right now, winter sundowns before 5PM keep people from having any daylight hours apart from work times. If you can only see one hour of daylight per day, would you rather it be during your morning commute, or after you get home to enjoy it? Instead, just when DST could be helpful, we end it. Hello, vitamin D deficiencies, seasonal affective disorder, unkempt lawns and unfit bodies due to lack of outside exercise, all to drive home at the end of the day tired in the dark.
    The obvious answer to the early school times is, as she mentioned, shortening the length of the school days. Start later. If we know the modern lifestyle of sending children to school early in the AM is not best for them, why do we keep doing it? Sacrificing the health of the children for the convenience of adults is not a good enough excuse.
