Growing up in NYC you learn to love Puerto Rican food. Im Salvadorean but i grew up eating puerto rican food. Married a Puerto Rican also! Cant wait to receive your sofrito.
@@bkmac10 I soak them in it for 10 minutes and then I fry them. I only let it fry till it’s a pale golden color. I take them out and then I squash them and dip them again in the salted water for about 1 or 2 minutes and then I finish frying them again.
@@CRC-876 I slice them diagonally. I soak them in water with adobo and garlic powder for 10 minutes and then I fry them. I only let it fry till it’s a pale golden color. Hermano, you are made for this type of instruction medium! Always enjoy your recipes and your friendly and thorough instructions. Never saw anyone use a cup bottom like that, but now I know in case I don't have a tostonera. Have a blessed year.
I'm a gringa but from south FL and i am really homesick missing all the delicious food, cultures, music i grew up with! Thank you for making these videos. Now that i am in Colorado raising my LO he will grow up eating the wide variety and appreciating all the world has to offer. Thank you for making such a clear video on one of my favorites- I'm going to make tostones con mojo (:
I use the bottom of a 2-cup pyrex measuring cup to smash them. They slide right off. We also have a dipping sauce for them: Add a couple of tablespoons of oil to the Mojo marinade you buy at the store. Mix well. Yum.
My mother taught me to place the fried tostone between two pieces of brown paper bag and squash it with the heel of my hand. They didn't stick to the paper and were easy to get back in the pan.
Looks delicious!!! I usually cut them and go straight to the oil without soaking in lightly salted water but I'll be trying your way next... I take it you don't salt after, correct??? You can eat those anytime of day, which is bomb! Thank you Freakin Rican🙃
So, I love all of your videos, do you know how to make jibaritos? If so, can you PLEASE make a video? P.S., I tried your relleno de papa recipe, my familia loved it! I am Mexicana, but I love PR food!
In my humble opinion there is no need for soaking in salt water as that step is for making masa for pasteles and alcapurrias. I just peel cut and try remove smash fry until crispy then add salt and maybe some garlic. Save some time and the extra step. Looks yummy. Try it for lunch with topped picadillo.
Yummy!! You should put the link to your products in the description box 📦 for easy purchasing. Thanks for the awesome video!! Lol...I use a mug too! 👍🏼😉 Merry Christmas !!! -Christine
I love watching your videos you're very entertaining. I just want to point out the name of the pan ie., the frying pan/skillet is what you use to make the tostones in and sauce pan is the ones you use to make the beans and or boil water. Keep up the great videos! Love the simple manner with which you prepare the dishes and your recipes. Great job!
Hahaha, que charlatan eres, lol. You are so funny, your coffee mug is not only for coffee, also for smashing platanos, that's so genius! My mom used to make a dip of mayo mixed with ketchup and spices like adobe, onion and garlic powders, etc. . mmm, love it. Sending hugs and kisses. 😊 👍 ❤
You can soak in water for about 5 minutes . These tostones are going to be amazing. The key is the crunch . And of course a little bit of salt and the mojo. Wow real good. ❤

I leave them in adobo and garlic in water and they get a nice flavor
How long do you leave them in ?
Do you mean dip them in the garlic adobo water before you refry? That's what I do.

I use whatever I have on hand for smashing. Food cans, cups, saucers, pie pans, whatever! I rub the surface with a bit of the hot oil and smash away.
Need some fried eggs. Love it. 👍🙏👍✌️❤️😎🌞
Feliz día bendiciones salud prosperidad para todos 😅😊

What does the salt water bath do?
Hello, one question, why do you soak the plantains in salted watet?
To remove stain and probably so you won't have to salt it again
