I've been something of a fan of the 4Runner for a little while now, but always felt it was more vehicle than I needed or would use. But with the recent buzz over the next gen I find that I'm more curious now than ever to possibly dive in to that Toyota pool. Besides waiting on that final pricing, one of the big concerns is the potential for any "first year" design issues. I've been in a Subaru Outback Wilderness for a few years now and it's really been a great car! But the more I look the more I think it might be time for a truck!! :)
6G folding rear seats leave a hump and seem to reduce the overall storage length which doesn't allow you to sleep in the back or lay something flat that is lengthy. Will the forward passenger seat be able to adjust its height for taller people, like the driver seat? Probably not. What about a place to hold a cell phone? Or cup holders that can accomodate larger width mugs? Probably not. I have owned a new 2002, 2008, and 2018, and hope that the smaller improvements aren't overlooked which they probably are.
Price will determine if I get one or not. I’ve waited a long time for this new model but seeing how expensive the taco got, I don’t know if it’ll be worth the likely hefty price tag.
Waiting on a 2026 Trailhunter. Won't buy the first year. Have a 2014 4Runner so no hurry. Wish they wouldn't keep pushing it back. Hope second year they come up with a plug in hybrid. We'll see.
Seeing the 4runner gone back to its Pickup Passenger suv makes me excited. Im gonna wait for Xterra to be frontier based. Watching This on my Toyota Fortuner
Hi Jon yes you right about issues The issue I have on the new Tacoma is the 2 chirping noise on cold start but only for few seconds it goes away when it warms up looks like lot of people have the comment on the 4th gen taco forum!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, your wife, and all Floridians as Hurricane Helene passes. You have several apocalyptic vehicles to choose from if you need to evacuate and/or help others (I'd pick the tried-and-true 4Runner).
@ashresearcher the only things I do is 1). Get the oil changed every 5k miles. I don't do that 10k BS. I like my cars better than to do that. 2) every oil change I put in Royal Purple fuel system treatment. 3). I only use Shell or BP gas (can't confirm that makes a difference but it's one consistency I have). 4). I drive 5-7 over speed limit and don't do much WOT. Heck, in Atlanta traffic on surface roads, you can't do that much anyway. I commute 3 days per week, 40 miles each way on surface streets. That's pretty much it. I went and filled up 2 hours ago and checked my miles. I got 20.2 mpg. Took a picture and will post to my TH-cam page.
My 1985 would get 22mpg with bfg mud terrains, my 98 supercharged 5sp would get 22 mpg, my 06 with 4.0 would get 21, my 18/21 trd pros would get 19. It’s time to get increase and not decrease!

I think most 4 runner owners won’t upgrade but if your coming from another brand and looking for a body on frame vehicle . The gx 550, land cruiser, sequoia and 4 runner have to be in the conversation . Toyota had some hiccups but they will figure it out. I have my two cars for the next couple decades but I am a car guy holding onto the glory days haha. Technology is convenient when it works. However we all know it doesn’t always work. Cool cars nonetheless . Maybe I will buy the 8th gen when it drives on water .

My 2005 4Runner's sticker had 17/21 for the V6, which is the reason I wanted the V6. But yeah, the later 4Runners, and so disappointed with my 2016 Highlander's 16/19, what in the world? Corvettes have better mileage! That is disappointing that a lot of style cues come from the Tacoma. My HVAC controls are 5 starred rockers, so easy to raise or lower temps, 3 degrees down, just press three times, and can do it with gloves on. Not a fan of the face either. The 2024 face is very cool. I like to rear window curving up into the roof. Standard safety assistance features are welcome. Also, my 2005 came with roof rack, fog lamps, side steps, all standard. I think the roof rack and side steps have been add-ons for a while. I'd like a new one, but will wait a year at least.
6:22 $53k-$56k for trd pro are like 2021-2023 used models. 2024 models that I've seen for sale online either new or lightly used (under 5k miles) are like all over $60k. Absolutely absurd lmao
Very absurd, but dont feel bad when you find out how small the Land Cruiser is paying for the same and less space. Not understanding the logic of these decisions 🙈
I’m concerned about the longevity of the new hybrid engine as opposed to My 2011 Toyota Limited forerunner. They all have these amazing 300,000+ miles but now I’m concerned about the Hybrid engine having the longevity?
@@Keefer24 Ok lets not get ridiculous. They haven’t fallen off. They released new generations with new powertrains to keep up with emissions. I love the looks of the new one, my problem is too pricy! I'll keep my 2010 Highalnder till the wheels fall off, and by the looks of it going to take awhile, just past Pa inspection and needed nothing..
Both the 5th gen and 6th gen look good. I think the 6th gen looks slightly better. Getting 17 mpg in the 5th gen is what kept me from getting one. Now, you can't even find any new 5th gens on lots. I would like to get a 6th gen TRD Off Road with hybrid option. I think Toyota will build a good product. Before the trolls call it a mall crawler again, I want it for the snow, not really off roading. Also, that soccer mom driving her son to the mall with it will someday pass that on to that kid and HE will off road with it.
As much as I understand a majority of 4Runner buyers don't mind the underpowered powertrain as much, and are more focused on getting from point A-B, the new powertrain is just better IMO. I drove a friend's 4runner and coming from a modern V6 Highlander, I was not impressed at all, and was a deal breaker to me. Considering the LC and the Tacoma have the powertrain and are already out, the amount of "issues" are less likely to happen to the 4Runner, especially since its made in Japan.
Pretty sure the Tundra engine fiasco which also affected the GX550's (built in Japan) dispels the whole, built in Japan automatically equals better build quality
@@YerBoyTroy the thing is, while I haven’t heard of any GXs breaking down or anything, the build quality is noticeably different between the 2. Just based on what I have seen, and personally owning 2 Toyotas, one made in America and the other in Japan.
@@arhamkhakwani5851 any difference between the GX and tundra 'build quality' is more attributed to Lexus being a luxury line vs Toyota , more so than built in Japan vs not built in Japan. Example the old rx350 vs gx470 were on par with each other fit and finish wise despite the Rx being built in Canada. Same thing with the 4runner vs the old gen Sequoia. Build quality was pretty on par between both vehicles despite build locations. Maybe back in the day when parts and manufacturing processes weren't globally standardized you had quality inconsistencies across plants, but nowadays it's pretty consistent across the board. Toyota invested billions to make this so
I hope in the near future Toyota does offer a V6 otherwise noo go for me , i have my doubts on the longevity on the 4 cylinder turbocharged engines. Toyota bring back a more fuel efficient 6 cylinder like the 3.0 or the 3.3 V6.
4 cylinder engines under pressure will never last as long as a 6 cylinder. People buy Toyotas because they are reliable. When I buy a truck I’m not buying it because I’m worried about gas mileage. I buy trucks to get jobs done with power to spare and reliability.
I've got that screen in my wife's RAV4. It's the worst part of the vehicle. It's laggy, poorly organized, and looks like HELL after you've touched it just a few times.
Hey Jon…..so Raiti gave a big zonk on the gloss black fender flares on the new 4 Runner TRD Pro. I mentioned to him that you stated that one reason why going paint rather than a matte plastic finish was that paint can be buffed while matte finishes cannot and he followed with his comment: “I am not seeing that!” Do you stand by your comment (I would and no reasonable person would expect any “pro” model of any vehicle retaining a perfect stock appearance)?
I like everything in the new 4runner except the engine and the front bumper, If only we can swap the bumper to a tacoma 2024 then I will not mind that 4banger engine.
I'm looking at a 24 TRD Off Road Premium right now, but I'm trying to wait to check out the 6th Gen. I will probably wait. I can always find a used 24 next year. The PRO's in my market are 58-59K. We don't "NEED" anything new but LOL.
For the people who are worried about the new hybrid engine, dont! This is Toyota were talking about whos whole reputation is based on reliability, they had a handful of problems with the tundras and are replacing over 100k engines on their dime, if there are any reliability issues at all I fully trust in Toyota to fix them in the same manner.
Best advice FJ owners gave me is dont sell the car expecting a better one because there probably wont be. 5th GEN 4runner til 2040 or if Gas gets above $5 in states outside of California.
I really hope Toyota has been humbled by their recent stumbles and does everything in their power to make sure this launch goes smoothly. The past year or 2 has undone DECADES of good will and perception of reliability for many customers.

If you plan on keeping it for like forever or a loooong time, why wouldnt you use premium anyways? Pennywise dollar foolish.
Great points on keeping 5th gen
Part of me wants both the Gen 5th and gen 6th after they fix any bugs haha
That double hulk hogan mustache comment man 😂 You've now ruined it for me 🙈🤣 At least he's for Trump!
Waiting on a 2026 Trailhunter. Won't buy the first year. Have a 2014 4Runner so no hurry. Wish they wouldn't keep pushing it back. Hope second year they come up with a plug in hybrid. We'll see.
Nice man!
Seeing the 4runner gone back to its Pickup Passenger suv makes me excited. Im gonna wait for Xterra to be frontier based.
Watching This on my Toyota Fortuner
Hi Jon yes you right about issues
The issue I have on the new Tacoma is the 2 chirping noise on cold start but only for few seconds it goes away when it warms up looks like lot of people have the comment on the 4th gen taco forum!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Already in love with it.
Will fit it and take it from there
I’m not buying one, but I do like the color of the one in the video. What is that color Jon?
Thats the mudbath color for the TRD Pro
Being built in Japan should be seen as a reason to buy.
Problem is the population is starting to disappear
My thoughts and prayers are with you, your wife, and all Floridians as Hurricane Helene passes. You have several apocalyptic vehicles to choose from if you need to evacuate and/or help others (I'd pick the tried-and-true 4Runner).
Thank you!
I average 19.5 in the city and 21 on the hwy all the time in my 2020 4runner TRD Off Road. That's commuting in Atlanta traffic.
Don’t worry the new one will get the same mpg with less reliability 😂
No way you get 19 mpg with traffic. I get 21 mpg on the highway
@@ashresearcher i can take a picture of my mpg and prove it.
@@IReviewIt any tips to reach that mpg in the city?
Nice! This will most likely increase too. That’s great 😃
4Runner has been the best SUV I have ever had. I bought one in 2005 and had it for 14 years. I sold it with 214,000 miles, and the vehicle is still running. Very reliable.
Yeah not these new ones bud 😂
@@Keefer24That’s what they said in 2005.
@@NomenClature-o8sWhat was so drastically different about the 2005 model aside from a NA motor? You know this is gonna be a turbo now right? 2005 turbo vehicles are rare nowadays
I've owned third, fourth, and my fifth gen now for 8 years....I can not wait for the 6th.
I've got a '19 4runner with 84k on it. 3" lift on 33"s (sr5 premium) in excellent condition. Your opinion, when will I "need" a new one, providing I don't wreck it? 😁
In about 20 years. That truck will last as long as you want it to. 👍
I am a newbie to 4Runner. I bought 2024 4Runner (solar octane color) but I am debating whether I should go for 2025 4Runner or not. Any guidance will be much appreciated.
2023 SR5 Prem with a third row, this car will be my kid’s college car (who aren’t born)
Any word on what the 3rd row is like. I’m assuming it’s not actually functional but useable when it is needed, which is basically my situation. Any measurements yet or photos?
No idea yet.
@ cool thx!
I have a 2010 Limited. Bought it when the model came out. I have 323k miles on it now. After waiting for years for a new model to come out, the 2025 is a huge disappointment for me. Hoping to keep my 2010 for as long as I can.
If you value money over a depreciating asset you will not a buy any new Toyota. Overpriced and nowhere near reliable.
@@Keefer24 I agree but you legit can say that about 98% of cars. I am good with my 5th gen. Cars are terrible investments. The value is keeping a car for decades.
Keeping my ‘22 TRD ORP. The bulletproof V6 is just too damn reliable.
Always wait for the 3rd year of the new remake
LC250, designed by Toyota-Japan, made in Japan; no reported issues. 4G Tacoma, designed by Toyota-America, made in Mexico, same powertrain; all kinds of problems. Perhaps Made in Japan is the critical difference.
Maybe
Getting an additional 6 MPG highway on premium gas negates any savings you would have had
It’s regular gas
Fantastic video and fair for both sides of the debate….nice mic holder :)
Thank you kindly!
The 2025 4Runner 2 wheel drive SR5 with no added options will start at $47,885 which includes a delivery charge of $1,495.
The 2025 4Runner TRD PRO will be $69,430 which includes a delivery charge of $1,495.
How do you know?
Too high. $47,885 = a 2025 SR5 4WD. A 2WD would be $3,000 less or $44,885. There won't be any 2025 "SR"s, just like there a none for 2024, only SR5
@@stuckman10look at the market right now, it’s not hard to figure out. I for one think they will be more. I see these junky Tacoma trd pros for 85k on lots near my house. ( NEPA)
@@verlaryder In March of 2023 my calculated MSRP for the new 2024 Tacoma double cab SR 4x4 was $38,900 with delivery and no options; people laughed and thought I was out of my mind. The actual MSRP was $38,695. My Calculation for the TRD PRO was $64,995, the actual MSRP was $65,395
My calculations for the 2022 Tundra were within $250 for every trim and $80 under for the TRD PRO.
I promise, these numbers will be VERY VERY close to the actual MSRP.
Here is my complete list for the 2025 4Runner.
SR5 (2x4) $46,185
SR5 (4X4) $47,885
TRD Sport $50,175
TRD Sport Premium $56,680
TRD Off-Road $51,710
TRD Off-Road Premium $58,380

Platinum $70,995
TRD Pro $69,430
Trailhunter $68,250
In the last 3 years the dollar has lost a staggering 17% of its value. Thats not Toyota’s fault.
That’s just dumb
Very absurd, but dont feel bad when you find out how small the Land Cruiser is paying for the same and less space. Not understanding the logic of these decisions 🙈
I’m concerned about the longevity of the new hybrid engine as opposed to My 2011 Toyota Limited forerunner. They all have these amazing 300,000+ miles but now I’m concerned about the Hybrid engine having the longevity?
Waiting for the new LandCruiser FJ! Manual and no turbos please.
We can hope and pray hahah
No offense but keep dreaming . Fj with a 3 cylinder turbo plug in hybrid lol 😂
Keep dreaming bud. Toyota fell tf off hard. Never saw so many sitting in a dealership parking lot in my life.
@@Keefer24 Ok lets not get ridiculous. They haven’t fallen off. They released new generations with new powertrains to keep up with emissions. Those naturally aspirated engines were around for decades. We are in year 1 and entering 2. They will get it sorted . Do I like this hybrid crap no but Toyota isn’t going to become a unreliable brand . They are the biggest car brand in the world .

Am still happy w/my 3rd gen. It has 17.3% more power per weight than the 5th generation 4Runners.
Great little cars
@@TRDJon I went from a 1st gen to 3rd. Do you sell vehicles, for work?
No i don't. Just make videos
I love the looks of the new one, my problem is too pricy! I'll keep my 2010 Highalnder till the wheels fall off, and by the looks of it going to take awhile, just past Pa inspection and needed nothing..
Yep we will see when revealed.
Hmmm if TRD pro goes to 70k… how does that hold up vs GX550?! Hoping it stays low.
Perfectly said! A-B and back home. Thats what we want. But if we get that and a better driving experience too, then man that's a win win.
Toyota invested billions to make this so
The previous Gen 4Runner was not a particularly nice driving vehicle. I wouldn’t pick one unless it was specifically as an off-roader.
With them keeping pushing back its release makes me think they’re working out the bugs before it comes out
Hopefully!
I learned a long time ago to never buy 1st edition vehicles.
I have been tempted many times, but I have always waited a year.
So my 2018 4 runner just got totaled 😢 (not my fault) should i race to find a 2024 4 runner or wait for the 2025!???
I hope in the near future Toyota does offer a V6 otherwise noo go for me , i have my doubts on the longevity on the 4 cylinder turbocharged engines. Toyota bring back a more fuel efficient 6 cylinder like the 3.0 or the 3.3 V6.
Gtreat, honest opinion….thanks
No worries!
Good point. 2x
Hopefully after a few years they'll have a facelift.
4 cylinder engines under pressure will never last as long as a 6 cylinder. People buy Toyotas because they are reliable. When I buy a truck I’m not buying it because I’m worried about gas mileage. I buy trucks to get jobs done with power to spare and reliability.
22RE one of the most reliable Toyota engines had a turbo. 2JZ? Reliable. It’s possible
What power to spare has any 4Runner had? They’ve always been underpowered while having garbage efficiency. The worst of both worlds
Never buy the 1st year of a new model or gen.
~ Scotty Kilmer
I've got that screen in my wife's RAV4. It's the worst part of the vehicle. It's laggy, poorly organized, and looks like HELL after you've touched it just a few times.
if they install the 6 cyl 4.0L engine mated with an 8 speed tranny, then people will think about it...
Sure thing
well said make sense
Reliability trumps everything. That’s why I bought this summer a 24 TRD ORP.
Had a 2020 SR5 and got….22.3mpg. Went from Chicago to Louisville. I was shocked
2wd non-Premium trim (i.e., the lightest of all 4Runner trims)?
@@iwazaru8101 it had the option for 4WD
Hey Jon…..so Raiti gave a big zonk on the gloss black fender flares on the new 4 Runner TRD Pro. I mentioned to him that you stated that one reason why going paint rather than a matte plastic finish was that paint can be buffed while matte finishes cannot and he followed with his comment: “I am not seeing that!” Do you stand by your comment (I would and no reasonable person would expect any “pro” model of any vehicle retaining a perfect stock appearance)?
I mean it’s simple, paint can be polished. Textured plastic can’t.
@@TRDJon I know, right? He’s dismissed very informative info you’ve provided before. Do you know him? You both live in Florida.
I have met him at some Toyota events yes. They seem nice.
Buy the old one dude, don’t waste your time.
The truck looks great inside and out and the most important thing, It’s MUCH SAFER!! The fifth gen is absolute trash in an accident.
The Hulkster Runner 😂😂
nope not getting the new one with all the problems which will potentially have... thats why i had 3 5th gens..
my last one 24 is gonna be a keeper!
Nice!
Yea cuz of new products. They have to do through the issues to make them reliable like they did with all the previous models
We’re still driving our 95’ 4Runner that you referred to as 3.blow. Sorry mate, but it’s a kick ass rig with 119k on the clock in a manual transmission. It’s totally dope!
