The software updates are such a problem with Asus' phones. Especially since they've all but publicly confirmed (I've got an email confirming it) that they will not be providing a means for the people that bought their phones to unlock the bootloaders anymore. Asus betrayed a lot of their customers, not just the small phone enthusiasts.
For those who are interested or bought an Asus phone themselves hoping to be able to unlock the bootloader: Asus has reportedly already settled with one person in the UK and they got their court fees and the cost of the phone refunded.

The key selling point about the Zenfone was it's compact size. Now it's competing with other flagships like Samsung's S24 and it is not even close. Specs like 2 year support compared to Samung's 7 years, camera quality, overall design, etc. I won't be surprised they end up killing the Zenfone lineup

@@iatwiatw Is anyone selling these in phone bundles, or do you need to be an enthusiast who either lives in the correct countries, or is willing to roll dice on resellers? Because the S24 is the same size and is apparently selling better than the slightly larger S24+, and both the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro are the same size as well. As a Zenfone 9 owner, it looks like I might need to jump back to Samsung in a few years, but it's not like this form factor is unserved.

Its the opposite if you look at sales and market share. Asus's dramatic decline in market share coincides with the years they sold smaller flagships. It went from about 7% when the zenphones were 6.5inch to a measly 2% today.
Far from being the size that "that nobody wants", the larger format is where all the value is for the manufacturers.

Honestly I have been using the 11 Ultra for about 1 week now, granted this is like an upgrade for me after a 7-8 year old Sony Xperia smartphone, plus got it on its Launch Offer. Mainly got this becasue to me it's a cheaper ROG Phone without all the cooling fluff and it still has a Headphone Jack which is deal breaker for me, I hate having to carry dongles . Granted I don't mind the lack of support for long (granted OS updates are really lackluster nowadays) had very little issues with it so far, had to reconfigure a few things and I also agree 4k is too much on a phone. I like my big screen on it and games are just amazing to play on it. The CPU on it is great too, main reason I didn't consider a Pixel, and theCamera isn't a bother to me, Im not really a camera snob xD. Its a perfectly fine device thatis powerful yet lasts long and hs a headphone jack which will likely last 7 years even if they are droppomg support for it earlier than others (atleast), heck my Mums Galaxy S8 runs perfectly fine and is still fast despite the support being dropped so I have high hopes for the zenfone 11 ultra.

I personally don't understand the appeal of a small phone. It isn't great for viewing content like videos, pictures, or gaming, you lose a lot of flagship capabilities because compromises are made for that small size, also don't get a big battery. For a work phone that is only for taking voice and video calls with, and maybe some image documentation, I can see it being fine, specially if it comes with a cheap price tag, but larger phones, like my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is amazing to view content on, game on, browse on, basically anything that involves your eyes looking at the screen, and is why large phones are so popular and in demand over smaller ones. My first phone was like a 4.8inch screen or something like that, real small, low resolution screen, terrible for watching content on as I would a lot of time just not bother, then I got my Galaxy S8 which is what, a 5.8inch screen I think? larger, better for viewing stuff but still not perfect, then came my Galaxy S10+ with its 6.4inch screen, which I loved the size of it, and was so much more enjoyable to do anything on it. Now that phone feels small compared to my S23 Ultra's 6.8inch screen, and I even slapped an Otterbox Defender Pro case on it to make it feel even bigger. This phone is easily the best phone I have ever owned, and most expensive even though I bought it used. I still use my S10+ for some stuff like tracking my sleep as one example, and it just doesn't feel like a big phone, because really it isn't anymore, though it was when it first came out, not the largest since the Note 10+ I think had a pretty big screen on it and I regret passing it up as I absolutely love the S Pen on my S23 Ultra, but the S10+ just feels small now, and if something were to happen to my S23 Ultra and forced me to go back to my S10+, I would not enjoy using a smaller phone again. I hope phones stay about this size, maybe a little larger up to 7inch, which I think is probably the largest a phone can get before you could call it a tablet, but also I would probably really enjoy using a 7inch phone. I am also someone who doesn't put their phone in their pocket, I prefer to use the clip that came with my Otterbox Defender Pro, not only showing off my phone as it is always visible on my belt, but also easy to get to and the screen is always protected despite having a screen protector on it and wouldn't need to worry about scratches from the pocket.
Basically I think companies should have a small variant of a phone, like the S10e for example was a pretty small flagship phone, but I see where ASUS is going, you get more sales when your phone is the size of what most people expect a phone to be, between 6.4inches and 6.9inch. Anything smaller and it isn't nearly as attractive to most, and likely why Samsung is making the base S25 a larger phone at 6.2 and half I think it was from a leaked document or something like that. where the base S24 is 6.1inch, same with the base S23 and S22 I believe, but their best selling phones being the Ultra and Plus models, 6.5inch and 6.8inch screens, says a lot.

Dude I get it, but let's stop saying small phones can't have good battery life. Zenfone 9 and 10 have great battery life while having smaller batteries than other phones. 2 days on my zenfone. Also you should consider many people have several devices for media consumption. I don't watch movies and have long browsing sessions on my phone, it's just not a good form factor, at any size. For a phone I like a pocketable, reachable small screen. For browsing, movies and games I have a tablet, a laptop, a desktop and a TV. Different sizes for different purposes. I feel sorry for people that do everything on their phone because their experience is just worse (watching shows on a small screen sucks, browsing the web without a mouse is 10 times slower, gaming without a controller is much worse)

    • @AngryCanine
      @AngryCanine 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@SlipknotRevan I don't think you have had much experience using a larger phone if you think browsing, gaming, and watching shit isn't a great experience, or just not a good form factor. I own a 10inch tablet, and a 12.3inch Microsoft Surface Pro 7, as well as a high end custom built PC with dual monitor setup, and also have a 17inch gaming laptop. But I also own a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, a phone with a 6.8inch display, and there is absolutely no need to feel sorry for anyone who loves to watch content and browse on a phone of this size, because it is a great experience be using a tiny phone that you can hardly see shit on, have a tiny keyboard to constantly fat finger other keys with, and no hope in hell of multitasking with multiple windows/apps open because you just don't have the screen real estate for that. No, I would not rather watch all content and donallnmy gaming on this phone, not saying it is better then viewing on a laptop or desktop, but when I am not sitting at my desk, I very much enjoy watching content and other shit on my big ass phone that I have no problems fitting into my normal size pockets if I wanted to put it into my pocket, which I don't with any phone because it isn't great for an unprotected screen and I also prefer the OtterBox belt clip.
Also the last time I charged my S23 Ultra was probably what, 3 days ago? Currently at 28%, enough to last me the rest of the day and likely charge it either overnight wirelessly, slow which is better for the battery, or in the morning use my 45w charger and be full within an hour. Big ass battery in a big ass phone. Also the S23 Ultra is possibly the best for viewing content and gaming and all that shit because the screen doesn't have rounded edges like a while lot of phones have, so you get the literal full screen experience.oh and top of all that, I have a Turtle Beach Atom, a 2 piece controller for my phone that turns it into a hand held console like device, which I either play one of many emulators on my phone with, or stream my desktop tommy phone and play some more demanding games, which doing either is still a really great experience, which I will say again, isn't better then just using a desktop, but I don't always want to use my desktop, or always sit at my desk, or not always at home. There is no way in hell I would enjoy any of that using a tiny ass phone, with its little tiny screen that you can hardly see shit on when viewing content or browsing, it really is only good for taking voice and maybe video calls, voice text, maybe really simplistic 2d games like a bubble shooter which I could still see being problematic on such a small screen tryingnto get accurate shots...
What is sad is that you don't seem to use your phone for really anything other then it's base purpose. Even having 2 tablets as the surface pro is a tablet, i still prefer my phone, because it is easily held in 1 or 2 hands, does everything the other 2 tablets can do, and more. I make great use out of my phone, and I forgot to mention I also take notes with my phone, one of the reasons for owning an S23 Ultra, the S Pen, and taking notes on this side screen is pretty great, and the S Pen has other uses I quite enjoy, including with emulator games like Nintendo DS and 3DS.
Basically the only person you shouldnfeel sorry for is those who use a tiny phone for more then just taking calls and checking the time. It is no secret larger screens give a better viewing experience, and that is absolutely accurate with phones, as the larger screens just makes doing anything, better. I can't even say smaller phones are cheaper because there are plenty of large phone's that are really good, yet cheaper then some of the smaller phones with similar specs. If you have issue with pocketing a larger phone, then maybe its your pants having tiny ass pockets as again, no issue when I put my S23 Ultra into my jeans pockets once Ina while if I don't have my belt clip on or quickly need to set my phone somewhere to do something. I am not joking when I said there is a reason the most popular phones are large phone's, and the vast majority of people I know and have talked to who still prefer a smaller phone, have never owned a larger phone or used one, and just don't understand much better it is. That being said there are still those who have had larger phones but want one smaller for some reason, but there is few of you out there, and it isn't worth making a phone that won't sell well just for a tiny fraction of people.
I will leave you with this. I viewed the recent eclipse through my phone because I didn't get any of those eclipse glasses, and was really happy with my viewing experience and how well my phone was able to capture it, because of its amazing camera that is only found in such aarge device that has all the things you want in a flagship phone and doesn't give any of it up for being small, like a 200mp camera sensor for example. So yeah, let's flip the script, I feel sorry for you if you just want a tiny ass phone that just isn't as good at doing everything my larger S23 Ultra can do, and more since it can and does more, while still fitting into my pocket when not using the clip on occasion as mentioned, has a battery that I find myself charging every 3 or 4 days with moderate usage, it isn't the best for watching content or gaming on, but it is enough I can be quite happy with, and with emulators have a better experience with like DS, 3DS, GBA, PSP, even PS1 and PS2 and other android games that support x-input (Xbox controller drivers) as using that controller gives a really nice experience making the phone feel like a hand held console like a switch or steam deck, but better, and the screen size more then it's performance capabilities is what makes it so good, plus again, streaming games from my desktop to my phone when I don't want to be at my desk, or not home.

@@AngryCanine A lot of assumptions there, my guy. I ain't trying to shame you for liking a big phone. A few points, I have used a large device for months. I know it's decent for media consumption. I play PS2 games on my zenfone with the razer kishi and enjoy it. It's still probably 5 percent of my overall gaming which is done on a TV and I consider it much better. Don't assume other people are struggling watching and playing on a small phone, I'm doing just fine. I watch youtube on my PC because it's a better experience, not because I struggle on the small phone. There's room in the economy for more than 1 size of phone and I'm sick of people trying to convince me how much better big phones are, when I've tried both and know what I like (for myself). When it comes to phones and camera bumps, and protection in general, I don't understand people. You've spent $1,000 or more on a phone, yet you hesitate to use a $2 protective case. Honestly, you should be spending at least 10% of the phone's value to protect it, and you should definitely ensure your case is smooth on the back so that your camera sensor is flush or even deeper than the case.
Personally, I have a custom case made out of two cases: a standard hard shell body glued to a soft shell wallet that covers the screen. Additionally, I use a screen protector, a magnetic USB-C adapter wrist handle, and if you count external protection, I wear a watch and use a Bluetooth headset so I don't have to pull out the phone every 5 minutes.
Seriously, allocate at least 10% of your phone's value for protective items-$100 minimum.
Here's a breakdown of the protective items I use, which come to around $100 or more, ensuring my phone still looks brand spanking new:
    1. Hard shell bumper
    2. Glass screen protector
    3. Magnetic charger for the USB port
    4. Wrist strap
    5. Camera port glass protector
    6. Optional modified wallet cover to provide extra screen protection when in a pocket
    7. Bonus option: grip backing skin to prevent it from sliding out of your hands
    8. Bonus optional external devices that reduce the need for constant phone use, such as a watch and Bluetooth headset
When it comes to multimedia, especially on public transit, I don't even use my good phone. Instead, I have a separate MP4 Android media player. Go ahead, take it, smash it, steal it-it's only $100, and it can remotely send messages back and forth from my good phone to it.

As someone who plays genshin all the time on my phone, the Zenfone 10, despite the flagship snapdragon 8 gen 2, overheats like crazy and drops frames after a good 15 min of gaming. Depending on which version of the phone I was on, it either clocked down to 50fps once it reaches 40°C and to 40fps when over 45°C, or like what it does now, clocking down at randomly intervals, leading to moments where I could be getting 60fps, then the phone shits itself to 35fps and huge lag spike. For the rog phone 6, iirc it drops to 50fps at like 45°C and 40fps or lower at 50°C, but it performed much better despite being a snapdragon 8+ gen 1. Even though they can run hotter than Samsung or pixel phones, I'm surprised how crappily they perform compared to xiaomi's flagship and Nubia red magic. Disappointing performance, but if I'm some Normy person who just wants a decent phone, it's great, besides the camera which is even more inconsistent compared even to older OnePlus phones 😔 wtf Asus, your past phone had just one outstanding feature, and you removed it, now all your phone are basic and not even value for money
