I'm glad there's tech content creators talking about smaller phones being released because it allows people to voice their opinions on them.
I really wish there were more 4 -5 inch size phones. A desire of mine is to see small, single camera modules and minimal designs come back too. Sometimes you just need a device for messaging, browsing, and very occasional entertainment that you can forget is sitting in your pocket, works smoothly and takes OK pictures.
In other words, older designs with new OS and slightly better performance.

I settled on the ASUS zenfone 10 it was a choice between that and the s23. Also a great phone. Part of the reason was I wanted to use my phone more for audio things rather than being addicted to looking at the screen. People dismissed the headphone jack as being unnecessary. But if you are a serious user it's an absolute godsend because if you've been listening to an audiobook all day and your earbuds are running low you can just switch over to wired. But also what some people fail to realise is that with a headset you can get incredibly clear dictation. So if you are using voice to text with a wired boom headset, it's super fast and very accurate you can't get anything like that accuracy with Bluetooth microphones. Also wired headsets are much better for communicating in a noisy environment or when driving particularly if you have a boom style. If you get a call when driving or before you start driving you can put the headset on and you're completely set. No fumbling with Bluetooth buds and you can hardly hear anything in a car anyway. The Samsung s23 is the sexy girl in the nightclub with a short skirt and fancy makeup and hair. The zenfone, is the quiet girl from the countryside that is beautiful but just wearing a jeans and t-shirt. Most people will go with the nightclub girl, but an actual fact the other one is far far better.

I currently have the zenfone 8 which is by far the best phone i ever had (both in software and hardware), it is only let down by the snapdragon 888 being an soc with some problems. The update policy has been their achilles heel since the market started shifting to more than 2 years of support. It is nice to see they upped the security patch support to 4 years, but 3 years or 3 major os updates would have been welcome too. The zenfone 10 would be a welcome improvement over my zenfone 8, but i will wait for another year or two before buying a new phone. My phone is still in mint condition and is still blazingly fast, only the battery life could have been better but i wont spent 800 dollars to fix something that can be fixed with a 20 dollar power bank.

  • @microwrx

As Asus continues to increase the price on the Zenfone it makes it less of an attractive proposition. The S23 is volumetrically smaller (although a couple of mm wider), is lighter, has a bigger screen and is more widely supported. The Zenfone has a headphone jack and larger battery. As the price gap decreases (here in Australia at least) between the two brands it's harder to justify the Asus IMHO. My son just bought a Flip3 on sale for the same price the Zenfone 8 was available for at the time with the same SOC and I would have made the same choice if I were in his shoes (I currently have the Zenfone 8 myself).

I don't understand the logic here, yes the s23 is slightly smaller, and I mean /slightly/.

    • @microwrx
      @microwrx ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@ChippTheFox The Asus has a headphone jack, a larger battery, a bigger selfie camera and supports wifi 7. The Samsung is smaller (overall), lighter, has a larger screen, Victus 2, an extra rear telephoto camera, a barometer and USB3.2, not to mention you can buy accessories for it EVERYWHERE. So no, not less features at all. However for a decent price difference the Zenfone has been an attractive alternative, the whole reason I bought the Zenfone 8 in the first place and the Nokia 8 long before that, a premium SOC for nowhere near as much money. As the price gap shrinks if Asus kept the feature set growing at a proportionate rate the value proposition would remain, however I don't think it has.
That being said the 'for the same price' was comparing my Zenfone 8 to my sons Flip3 and like I said, IMHO. At least the Flip3 can do VoWifi, My Zenfone 8 can't, not here anyway.
I really like the Zenfone 10, but if the price of the Zenfone 9 is anything to go by, it's just not going to be worth it for what in reality is being able to have a headphone jack.

Phones with small sizes, can offer a unique and compact experience in a world dominated by larger smartphones. While bigger screens have become the norm, smaller phones have their own advantages.Firstly, their smaller size makes them easier to handle and operate with one hand, which can be beneficial for people with smaller hands or those who prefer a more compact device. They can easily fit into pockets or small bags, making them highly portable and convenient for on-the-go use.Additionally, smaller phones often have a lower weight, making them more comfortable to hold for extended periods. They can be a great choice for those who prioritize mobility and prefer a device that doesn't feel too bulky or cumbersome.

Doesn't work on CDMA towers, so Verizon customers must look elsewhere for small phones.

Is there Verizon support this version? How's the signal generally? I know that was a weakness from what I heard on the 9.

I still want another 5" phone. I have an iPad and a laptop for moments where I want a bigger screen. Let my phone just be a compact thing that lets me consume media in small bites without becoming my only consumption machine.

Too expensive for me. But damn, I want more compact Android phones. Just cheaper models. :D

I went from a Galaxy A51 to Pixel 7a. The smaller size threw me off a bit in my pocket and it just a tad bit thicker by like millimeters. I actually love the size.

I am using the 9 since a year. It seems basically the same with new colours. I thing 11 or even ZenFone 12 will be upgdes for me.

They need to make it compatible with Verizon bands! I really would love to purchase this phone!

I'm slowly going back towards small compact phones. If there's no micro SD card slot, I'm willing to accept that and use USB OTG in place of that. Need my headphone jack over wireless charging.

Asus you're doing great. Just add a sd card slot and make it 3 years of OS update instead of 2 please!

Small correction, as far as I can tell, there has never been a US distributor for the connex accessories. You have to import them and even then I couldn't track one down that wasn't second hand. They really failed to make them accessible in NA

I did a virtual double-take with that sick rendition of Fat Lip, I thought youtube was glitching. Although you mixed up the first half of the second verse with the second half of the first verse. Still, the hit of nostalgia is much appreciated. 🤘

It seems great! Imo it's a bit sad that the chip in the Xperia 5 IV is outdated, that would be the perfect small phone with a top of the line chip.

After paying 900 for my iphone 8 when they first came out and all the next phones were huge... I swore I would never buy another phone more than 500 bucks and had to fit in my hand. So, I only buy SEs. And they only come out every couple of years so... yeah. If they ever dump the SE I guess I will just keep buying the used 2022 SE for the rest of my life.

That 6.3 inch galaxy mega is actually bigger in every dimension especially width due to the aspect ratio and large bezels probably still more comfortable to use than the iphone tho lol

What? Didnt zenfone 9 come like 9 montha ago?
Still rocking my lovely Zenfone 8. Almost performing like a brand new phone still after 2 years.
Cant understand why Google decided big, bloated icons for the drop down menu would be better. I was so shocked when that update came, and so happy Asus decided to make an alternative.

Lol in the world of consumer mobile, mobile phone manufacturers release a new model within the period of every 7-10 months. The latest mobile hardware component lose the status of being "cutting edge" in like a mere 8 months.

expandable storage, a headphone jack, and small in the hand are priorities for me with ruggedness a close contender. Only a few manufacturers hit those targets while staying reasonably priced like Ulefone except their small phones have lower tier processors which means worse coverage and no 5g. Their chungus sized phones have sufficient number of 5G bands and all the other features, but they're too thick and heavy for most.

For the smaller form factor I have to stick to Xperia 5 series. The narrow angle lens (aka telephoto) is a must if you enjoy taking actual photos. Wide angle sucks for photography!
