Agreed. FF7 R combat system is fast and strategic enough to be the model going forward. If SE could have made 16 with more RPG systems/design/exploration etc it would of been a great model going forward too. Unfortunately 16 lacked all the hallmarks found in FF, like exploration/questing and RPG itemization for example were the biggest shortcomings to me.
Personally I think Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy battle system will always be the series best action based combat. It’s a perfect balance of real time action, and role playing strategy. There’s honestly no other way they can top this in my opinion. It’s quite literally perfect, like I can’t even think about any improvements that could be made for Part 3. Personally I don’t see anything wrong with XVII adopting this, but if they decide to go the full action route, then please give us party members.
Since getting to the tail end of the Junon region in Rebirth, I've had the notion that I want XVII to be a blend of Rebirth and XVI. I want snappy combat like XVI has (though I wish my wins actually felt earned,) and I want the plethora of useful items to find, mini games to play, and a world that's worth exploring what's to be found. Rebirth's systems hit a really high note for me, and even allowed me to introduce a friend to the franchise.
VIIR combat + X-2 style job system, the ability to actually control summons on battle like XVI or Type-0 would be the best of all worlds. There's huge potential to build on the achievements to VIIR and take it to incredible new heights. As for music, either Shimomura or Hamauzu, or both as music leads, with Narita and Kobayashi as secondary composers.
I kinda want them to give the FF7 treatment to FF8,9, and 10... I've been playing through Rebirth and it's awesome getting to explore that world and to enjoy the idiosyncrasies of that story
7, 8 ,9 and 10 are the fan favorites. I just think people are tired of remakes. But idk. If they do, i hope it’s a true remake and not Rebirth style. Don’t get me wrong. FF7 is my favorite game of all time, but i think in order to appeal to the masses, they should stick to the original story. I think the changes along with making it a trilogy hurt FF7
@@Dis2good Yeah they could be. I'm not excited about them, but I love how much more of the world they've brought to life with this particular remake. I agree about both sticking to the original with maybe a bit of fleshing out without adding whispers and all that shit, and them breaking it into a trilogy. For practical reasons, it might be quite necessary, but I think there would have been much more impact if it was one massive game all in one game.
If XVII goes down the path of XVI, it's a mistake in my opinion. You have the skeletal framework to work from going forward in the RE-Trilogy. SE has to start thinking about the long term health of this franchise. Having a semblance of an identity like it did once upon a time would do wonders for it.
You’re right… final fantasy lost its identity. 16 hasn’t helped that. Remake trilogy is built on the original, and as such has the DNA of final fantasy when it still had some identity baked into it. Final fantasy’s last 3 single player entries lack it entirely.
I'm hoping that's in it's in high fantasy medieval steampunk settings with magic and crystals. The gameplay I hope is an evolved form of Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy but air combat similar to Kingdom Hearts. Airship gameplay that's a mix between Assassin's Creed and Kingdom Hearts Gummi Ship. Take inspiration from Aegon's Conquest and Elric of Melnibone but with a twist that main protagonist is a red haired male with dark armor with dual sword gameplay. I hope the game is M rated.
So FFVI but with FF IV main character style, airship combat Black flag style is a good idea but for the love of god, the obsession with the M rating is stupid as hell, old school games did a lot of incredible stories with very deep and unsettling elements without the need to bump the ratings, but knowing the rating rules of today, they just don't think about ratings and make the game they wanna make, if it's too much for the Chinese market, then do what companies did in the past and make them a separate version.
@@carlostejeda4341 Seeing as how Final Fantasy VI Remake won't be a thing especially with developers saying it will decades to produce I see no reason not to see aspects of it go into other future Final Fantasy games.
"High fantasy medieval steampunk" Do you know what any of those words mean individually? Because steampunk, while it certainly could be high fantasy, is by definition not medieval. It's based on Victorian/Edwardian era technology. Also I think the term you're actually looking for aetherpunk. And more specifically, steampunk inspired aetherpunk.
Jesus, I've been stuck trying to figure out what your outro theme was for like the last hour, and I finally got it. A song from my childhood, Michelle Chang's stage theme from Tekken 2.
How about, and I know it sounds crazy, they make a real Final Fantasy, not some DMC clone w/ practically zero RPG elements. BG3, Persona, Yakuza and more have shown that turn-based was NEVER the problem and can sell massive numbers. In fact, for many of us, it was a *huge* draw to the franchise and wonderful change of pace from all other AAA games. Even FF7R is still way too button-mashey and lacks strategy. Go play OG FF7 and look at all the crazy things you can concoct w/ its materia system, even 25+ years later. Until FF returns to what made millions of us fall in love w/ 1-10 (even 12/13), I'm not paying the a single cent. My backlog will never end anyways.
while i think Itsuno could finally have his fully complete ambitious game in Square Enix maybe in a form of Final Fantasy 17 or a new ip, Id still rather have Ishikawa be the new director for a new Final Fantasy game just like what Hamaguchi is doing for FF7R, have the young bloods do it.
From the business perspective, it’s amazing how they still haven’t hit us with a “final fantasy maker” and a market place where we could create our own adventures… with AI being a major game changer in that, it feels a little dangerous if they try to play the “one more FF something” with another built from zero battle system
In order to keep its identity, FF17 should not stray further away from RPG elements. It can be an action RPG and still be final fantasy. And Remake’s hybrid system can absolutely become the framework for the next game. Just change it up like they changed up turn-based and ATB games for the first 10 FF!
I think they will. Especially since it will be just in time for PS6. So it’s very possible that next gen console will be favorable to an open world format.
Once it stopped being turn-based, it stopped being Final Fantasy. Even though FF13 combat was really dummied down from PS2 combat, it at least still felt like FF. FF15/16/7R play like generic action games w/ an FF paint job.
whether or not FF17 is turn base, ATB, or action, I just hope it has deep RPG mechanics. FF16 severely lacked this, everything was so watered down, it didn't matter at all. On the RPG side, FF7 Rebirth did it far better.
I’m thinking 4 party members, both in combat and in total, so everyone participates in every fight. But each character would have 2 different weapon types that completely changes their role. Use the FF7R real time w/ tactical slowdown/pause. Have the equivalent of synergy skills (not synergy abilities) be usable for no resource cost from the tactical menu
Honestly at this point I don't even care what they do. I just want them to continue to develop a game with its fully realized potential, story, writing and cutting edge graphics. They've been on a relatively good streak for a while now. But we need them to hold up to the same standard as they were in the 90's and early 2000's. We're so close, yet so far away 😢
@@REVOLVERE I'm curious, what do you think about FF16? Do you think it was a good product for the franchise or did you find it lacking in all of those aspects you mentioned?
@@martinaguiluz4063 I absolutely love FF16, but I also recognize the flaws. FF16 does a lot right but also trips over itself with lackluster side quests design. I completely understand that the side quests are there to build backstory, but the way they are designed feels outdated by today's standards. I hate to draw comparisons but The Witcher 3's side quests felt more like main quests in terms of writing and execution. That was 9 years ago. I feel like if FF16 cut back on like 25% of the side quests and put more effort into the quality of the side quests, it'd be so much better. It would not only improve the pacing of the story and missions, but it would also make them be more fleshed out and more fulfilling. Notice how all of the main story cutscenes are done so exceptionally well? I just wish that the side quests were held to even a fraction of those standards instead of the MMOesque back and forth, talking heads that we got with the recycled emotes that were used in FF14. Outside of that, I absolutely love and adore everything else about that game. I just wish they trimmed it all down a bit and put the money into developing higher quality side content to balance everything out. Because the mainline quests, cutscenes and scenarios were all amazing IMO.
@@martinaguiluz4063 16 is a game that was saved but also destroyed by square. It was fine... the story was on par with GOT season 8, the twist is obvious to anyone with a basic understanding of mythology. the game on the hardest difficulty is mash square to win (and sometimes triangle). There might as well of not been healing items with how much you needed them. There was no reason to level, change equipment or even do side quests, the voice acting was really good.
@@REVOLVERE unfortunately you cannot compare to witcher because that is like me expecting level design at the quality of fromsoftware in game companies where that has never been proven. Side quests and level design isn't something that SE is known for unfortunately. FF7 remake/rebirth faces the same pitfalls and if you were to tell me which had the better side quests. Well FF16 made me cry. FF remake/rebirth made me laugh. Both fit the vibe of each game but both face the same SE design philosophies. SE are mostly known for their fantasy stories and graphics. Turn based system mechanics is one thing and they are going into mechanical action combat but when people think of FF, the thing that sticks in the mind is the story/graphics. CDPR have the gold standard for quest design with cyberpunk and witcher and they are outliers. The reason why the quests are good there also has to do with necessitating dialogue trees and investigative mechanics. eg. witcher sense, scan. This gives you the ability to role play, unravel the story in that quest through interaction and making dialogue choices. final fantasy games aren't role playing games in that regard. Your following a linear story and you do not get to make choices in the dialogue. There is no multiple endings. The bulk of the rpg portion if you can really call it "rpg" comes from turn based system mechanics, whereas with 16, its pure mechanical depth like a fighting game. Low skill floor, high skill ceiling. As for the main story cutscenes. There is a reason why they are main story cutscenes. It takes a lot of money and time to create those. Particularly time which is very finite. Same thing with ff14. Why do they not have every line voiced in that game? time and money. I assure you everyone would want everything to have tier 1 cutscenes if it was possible. No RPG has tier 1 cutscenes like those everywhere. Witcher nor cyberpunk have this. In cyberpunk, they use a higher resolution model only for specific scenes like the romance sex scenes. In a perfect world, every quest would have high quality cutscenes like you see in ff16's main story.
@@martinaguiluz4063 Unfortunately 16 lacked all the hallmarks found in FF, like exploration/questing and RPG itemization for example were the biggest shortcomings to me.
If you want to hear Soken's take on modern music and every other genre you can imagine, play FFXIV. Not only that, but it's in my opinion the best gaming story of all time. Specifically Shadowbringers & Endwalker. It's a grind to get there, but once you do. Oh boy.. Words cannot do it justice. Mind you, Heavensward already is awesome & its an earlier expansion. You're in for some awesome music in 14. I'm a hard FFVII stan & FFXIV was the only that managed to surpass it for me. I wasn't the biggest FFXVI fan, so if CBU3 is gonna work on 17, I hope they let Ishikawa write the story. Since she's the one who cooked on ShB & EW for 14.
In my opinion, Soken REALLY shines in FF14, and totally fails in FF16. I know that’s controversial. But I can’t hum a single melody from 16. Whereas with 14, I don’t even play it, but I have the BOMB ASS OST.
I don't believe that rumor entirely. After 15 & especially 16's reception and 16's sales numbers, I think Square will go back to ATB turn based or a hybrid maybe after 16. I do think Itsuno may have joined Square, tho. As for the battle system i want it to be an evolution of FF5's job system and the 13 trilogy with it's more seamless action atb system
I cannot deal with a FF game with a DMC combat system. It ruined FF16. They should use the combat system that FF7R did perfectly well. I wanted to use Torgal/Fenrir, Jill, Joshua, Cid, and Shula.
Some want full action, some want turned based, some want hybrid. Square Enix has given us a little bit of all of them. What're you complaining about exactly? Are you whining because they aren't making every single FF game like VII Remake? It's not all about you
@@MichaelH-w6e The problem is the franchise has lost its identity as a game series. Not as a franchise, but as a game. Gameplay innovation is great and what the original 13 games were built on, but at some point they decided to try and get even more people interested by changing the type of gameplay the games would utilize and as a result people don't really know what to expect and people are losing interest because why bother with a franchase that doesn't even know what it is anymore. Or at least doesn't know what it is beyond visually pretty to look at.
I want a super sci fi ff game tbh. Really lean into it. Medieval/original fantasy aren't that interesting at the moment. I think they could also go mythological, that'd be cool. Something like ancient greek but with their own lore.
I wish the director of nier would get a shot at final fantasy. He would trip so many people out but would definetly make an exceptional final fantasy game
Well Yoko Taro has explicitly stated that he doesn't really want to make a final fantasy game because it'd come with too high expectations and too many limitations. So I doubt that will ever happen. And honestly, as long as he keeps making other games, I'm fine with that.
Not PS5. Unless Somy buys out Square -Enix. It will be a multiplat with the Switch2 specs forming the base game. Games have absolutely TANKED. Only Switch software is putting out decent numbers. CS1 is out. They also have Kingdom Hearts 4 in addition to FF7 R part 3. But now that Luminous staff is back in house they should have more man power. And FF15 combat is probably where you go. That could be good provided the development doesn't extend past the console's cabilities like 15 did. PS4 couldn't handle it at all. Runs great on the 5.
You know who I wish to be a character designer? Tetsuya Nomura, I won't discount the others, but I want to see what mr. Belts and Zippers do for the next mainline game at least only for the character design.
Solid choice of director if true. Itsuno is a big picture guy who can definitely get the series back on track if he's given a fair chance. I'd like to see 17 get back to the basics of Final Fantasy and try to appeal to a wider audience again
I think that they should take a leaf out of Capcom’s book and do one mainline and one offshoot like they do for Monster Hunter. Keep and refine both 7R’s and XVI’s combat systems.
That's what FF13 Versus was supposed to be. The mainline games would keep turn-based while Versus spinoff titles would be action. But thanks to the complete ineptitude of Squenix executives and director Nomura, the game was a complete production shitshow. The eventually gave up, sold the game as-is in its half-baked state, and made it a mainline FF in hopes it would actually sell. This is what effed FF more than anything else. They really should go back to that original model: turn-based for longtime fans and an action title for others.
funny things, i was thinking the same, i even made a comment on Maximilian Dood video "Is Devil May Cry DEAD?? Itsuno leaves Capcom" 😉 but it does make sense if you think about it that CBU3 now CS3 working on the next FF, CBU1 working on FF7 P3 and kingdom hearts 4, so what big team of Square with the man powers that can work on AAA game ?! also Yoshi-P said that the team gained experience with FF16 and will be working on improving it in the next game they will work on, , so it's very likely that the next game from CS3 is going to be like FF16 combat stlye, but i don't know if it's FF17 or FF16 p2 or new IP maybe FF16 spin off ???
Not a bad thing, we've got Terra and Lightning as leads in their own games which is why for me it'd be nice to see Nomura back as a character designer for the next mainline FF game.
The females are far and few in between games. It’s really not that many females lead characters. So I wouldn’t be mad at that. As long as the story is good. And they keep the same formula as Rebirth.
@derrellarthur4604 there was this era between X and 15 that was very pink and girly and 6 and RPGs had probably their first EVER strong female protagonists in Terra and Celes
The combat system introduced in Remake and expanded on in Rebirth is definitely one of my favorite combat systems of all time. I would be incredibly happy if they took cues from that trilogy going forward. I thought XVI's combat was fine, but personally I'd rather it not be the future of the series. Though, I might be okay with the idea if they were willing to compromise a bit and give us proper party members back. That's one thing I definitely missed in XVI, perhaps more than anything else. I want to be able to swap control of party members and do team attacks and things like that. I do also agree that it would be nice to have more character banter/dialogue in the field and in battle --- as well as just, in general, more of a sense of comradery and friendship between characters like we've had in Remake/Rebirth and in XV. I was disappointed by how little Clive had those types of small interactions with other characters like Jill, Joshua, Cid, etc. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks there was a lot of wasted character potential in that game. I remember seeing the Benedikta fight demo when it first dropped last year and being interested and wanting to learn more about how her history with Cid and Barnabas. It ended up feeling like an unfair tease because we got a whole lot of nothing. Not to mention she was one of the only heavily marketed female characters in the game, and her only legacy was to be remembered as the abused and unhinged femme fatale who drove Hugo to destruction --- and who Cid failed to save because she just wouldn't let him.
I hope something like FFVII Rebirth won't happen again, the game itself is really good, but the world is pretty monotonous, you keep activating towers, you keep collecting aether for the espers, the side quests are often connected to mini-games, It's always the same process from area to area, which eventually gets boring. As soon as you have explored an area and finished everything, a new area comes along where you have to do the same thing again. The combat system in FFVII Rebirth was also a bit more hectic, which could be really annoying at times. I hope FFVII Part 3 goes in the same direction as FFVII Remake or Square Enix designs each new area differently. Final Fantasy XVII should definitely be different in terms of world building and how the tasks are distributed.
Please bring back turn based traditional final fantasy. No hybrid system no action based just the old school final fantasy battle system, exploration etc.
Instead of straight up remakes they could make pseudo-sequels of old games. Use a modernized version of the combat & style and tell a new story in one of those worlds that doesn't need to be directly tied to the plot of the original (like the Phantasy Star series)
13:10 I 100% agree. I realized the rpg was pretty bad in 16, so I did not engage in it at all. I just saw it as an action game, I skipped all side quests, did not care about crafting weapons etc. Just went hard on the story, combat and lore. And it is honestly one of my fav games of all time. Just flows way better if you go faster in that game. I mean stop and look at the scenery, but don`t go completionist rpg mode. And 100% agree with what you said about FF7 rebirth aswell. Which is also one of my fav games. I mean I agree with this entire video.
"Just flows way better if you go faster in that game." No kiddin'. I like FFXVI but dear lord almighty but it's gameplay is made for a DMC story, which are short so that you can play will all the toys relatively quickly. But since 16 is (supposed to be) also a RPG which has barely a framework of a RPG system and a long story, it makes everything go on much slower pace with little variety in-between. And don't get me started on the side-quests, it makes the pacing even worse.
@@ryujin8754 I think the main story was paced well. Like I said when I started to skip all side quests it was perfect. Monster hunt can be nice since the combat and bosses is very fun. But I actually skipped most of those aswell. I also like that the gearing is super simple. Good thing it did not copy god of war. I hope if they do this type of FF again, they take some notes from 7rebirth and black myth wukong. If they do side quests they have to be good, like in rebirth, or a fun boss like in Wukong. We need a good party dynamic like in Rebirth, and a good action rpg progression, like in Wukong.
@@mangomariel Because Final Fantasy is an RPG series. If something is not going to be an RPG then it should not be called Final Fantasy. It'd be like making the next Street Fighter game a first-person shooter. It doesn't work.
As a devil may cry fan I love Itsuno very much however I think he's more suited to a series like Kingdom Hearts than Final Fantasy. I won't assume he has no interest in doing rpg's but going off his past works it's obvious he prefers more fast action. Square making 17 another action focused game would be the worst mistake they could make right now and I have a feeling they know that too. If they want the series to start recovering they need to have more of an rpg feel to the next game whether it's pure turn based or the hybrid system of the remake triliogy. If they were to announce that Itsuno is working on a Kingdom Hearts game I'd be very happy with that that series is more up his ally. Getting him for 17 would make me very skeptical, I really enjoyed 16 but it also the game that made me just want the more traditional style of Final Fantasy back and for square to stop trend chasing.
Why do we want DMC combat?? If anything Dragons Dogma's combat would be better suited for the next FF, and now that they have Itsuno I hope to god they do it.
I do remember Going through Dirge of Cerberus and I have seen Advent Children and I believe that they were a glimpse of things to come, No doubt FF7 Remake and the upcoming Sequels Rebirth and Reunion are destined to be the perfect Arch-Types of what gameplay, storyline and a incredible cast of characters that any Action RPG should be! I believe the very best❤ I have yet to get FF16 but I am personally looking forward to it* I can't yet imagine what a FF17 could be like but I am definitely interested and looking forward to seeing it when it finally comes out! Please do send us more about future upcoming Final Fantasy's and I do appreciate all your fantastic streams❤❤🎉😂
what i want from FF17 hmm maybe a cyberpunk setting but a high fantasy like Frieren is welcome too, combat would definitely be action with obviously rpg elements to it and other playable characters like 7R which was badly missed in 16, open world like zelda botw, a female lead is in due at this point, since it would be an open world adventure i want it to be a lengthy game cuz i ain’t spending $70 on FF game that is only 20hrs long, SE has no shortage when it comes to music so im not worried about that but i do want Monaca the team that handled NieR’s music to be in FF17. i agree with what u said about characters of 7R vs 16 but while i highly prefer 7Rs characters more than 16 is definitely not cuz of bias. imo 7R character writing and the VAs gave more life and personality to FF7s characters a lot of fans were worried that they wouldn’t be able to capture Cloud’s character right but they did way better in 7R. now compared to FF16 which highly focused on Clive which was stupid imo it felt other characters lacking especially Jill, Benedikta was super short lived and had high potential as a villain in the same level as 7Rs turks, everyone loved Cid but i guess 16 devs didnt love him the same way too, Dion is another wasted character i woulda expect they would build more from him especially with what happened to his kingdom but yea this was still Clive’s game and Joshua is just meh tbh i would’ve wanted the suspicions of him being alive to be farther in the story rather than just blatantly showing to everyone hey he’s alive. FF16s female side characters had more character development than Jill and Benedikta which was quite a shame. So yeah i want FF17s characters to be the same as FF7R and FF15 with lots more banter, camaraderie and dialogues with each other while exploring the open world.
I would like to have a FF character who kinda resembles Baiken from guilty gear with the eye patch. Who's a complete badass lol. Does anyone know what female character that is @1:08?
I really hope they don't do the Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin flop and the FF16 almost near flop... they were both amazing in graphics styles, but damn the gameplays such a*** for a FF game... FF12 & FF15 were amazing games and that lead to FF7 Remake style a little but those styles for origins and 16 were not that good I must say with deep sorrow. Don't do this SquareEnix don't do this...
As for what you said about Final Fantasy IX Remake being a side game with turn based gameplay, I don't think it be that but that of AAA game with gameplay similar to Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy especially since Square Enix needing to make a lot of cash next year.
If CS3 is working on it, I hope they reduce the number of scenes that often fade to black and make the storytelling smoother. Personally, after finishing Stellar Blade and Scarlet Nexus, I am in the mood for a sci-fi setting with plenty of epic megastructures around world. More importantly I don't want another tragic ending, give us a happy ending for change.
I just want, no, NEED more than one playable character in the next FF game. Like I walked away from 16 knowing that I’ll never play it again. And that’s never happened to me with ANY mainline FF games before. I have often wondered if I would have a completely different opinion on 16 if it let you control the other 2 characters you end up with towards the end of the game. Hell, even if they let us fully switch to and play as Torgal even. But as compelling a character as Clive was, it still wasn’t enough for a MAINLINE FINAL FANTASY GAME.
FF7 Rebirth combat / Boss Phases / Card Game / Team attacks FFX Sphere Grid system FFX Equipment customization FFXII Job System FFXVI Moveset and Cinematic scale FFXV Character Interaction Square has 16 installments to use for reference. They shouldn't make mistakes. Use Unreal Engine FFS. Don't ever dare touch your own game engine, Square.
Funny you say that. I actually think FF17 will be the sequel to part 3. In other words, they are ret-coning Advent Children and Dirge of Cerebrus. The story would focus on Vincent and new characters. So it would go like: Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Advent Children Dirge of Cerberus Final Fantasy 7 Remake Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 Final Fantasy 17
Before watching this, just what if they finish the Remake project. And it leaves you a little bit mystified. Then FF17 picks up on the outside of Edge. Boom. It's a fcuking Quad-Trumple. Oh my god guys I think they might do it
I agreed with everything you said regarding FF17 but its potential duration. I believe 30-35 hours is the bare minimun a 60-70 usd game should last, and more so for jrpgs as they are so story heavy, 20 h is just way too short in my opinion. Also, I didn't have any issues with the length of FF16, while some sections of the game were certainly less fun than others, the only parts of the main story that felt like padding to me were Mid's quests, and those certainly didn't last for 20 hours (more like 3)
Are they really going to announce FF17 this early? I remember there was a lengthy period of time between FF15 and FF16. Announcing FF17 at this point would make FF16 have less of an impact in the franchise.
what are you talking about, this guy is old and want to retired, he just announced his retirement in after compiling tons of shit on dragon dogma 2, and leave that game dead as it is now.. just let him rest man.. we need younger gen take care of the games right now
Well he is leaving Capcom, so makes sense he would do some work for SE. I think make the combat similar to FF7 Remake, not as complicated as Rebirth, but still an insanly good game and keep FF7 triolgy as the definitive combat engine for Final Fantasy now, no more switching it up for experimentation. They have got it almost perfect, lets keep it going.
ngl i thought 16s combat got dry around halfway. it didn’t have as much depth to carry 50+ hrs. also 16s combat should come back but not for a mainline game. i know most fans will agree with me. the next mainline needs rpg elements, full party and combat should be turn base or ff7r type
It won't be in the world of Final Fantasy 6 but we see elements of world bleed into it including future Final Fantasy games. Hopefully it goes into aetherpunk settings.
I'm not spending 80euros and waiting 6 yrs of development for a 20hrs game... When a game is good I wanna play as much as I can and when it's bad I just stop playing and I don't go on just because "it's only 20hrs long, might as well finish it".
The problem with XVI is that the duration of the game brought diminishing returns. First 15 hours were some of the best FF has ever offered. By the 30th hour I was sick of it and couldn't wait for it to be over, and by the time I finished it I considered it to be the worst mainline FF since II. Some stories don't benefit from being made longer and longer, especially when the graphical and cinematic ambition of the developers means money and time gets sucked away from great story telling and bringing the world to life, and gets spent on over the top set pieces and cutscenes instead. And they still haven't made a profit with XVI even after all that expense. Longer games are fine, but in reality there's often a trade off. And I think if they want to make great games with long stories that maintain quality throughout, they need to sacrifice some other aspects of development. I'd be fine with that though, personally. In any case, I still consider €4 per hour of entertainment excellent value, and would rather have a well made shorter game for that money then a game I'm sick of by the end of it. And if you replay or do NG+ then that value is even better than €4 an hour. Seems fine to me.
@@JoshWiniberg if the gameplay is good it carries any game even if the story's got some padding here and there or less than stellar parts. Look at FF7 remake. The problem with 16 was that it was pretty mid (except for the big fights and cutscenes). You just excuse it in the beginning hours cause the premis is intriguing and you obviously give it room to grow except it never actually does and then the boredom sets in. First final fantasy since 7 that i put down and stopped playing for a long time. 80 euros for a 20hrs game is too much and i know it because i know about elden ring, god of war and others.
Please don't go down the route of FF16 again. Not much depth, not really any fun side quests, button mashing and no strategy, , one character only and no leveling or unique build methods.
Combat isn't much of a concern for me. I played old school FF games for their story telling and characters. The single player games haven't delivered on that front since X. 23 years straight and they keep botching it and I don't understand why.
I would disagree with you on that FF should just turn into a Hack N' Slash franchise (if managed by the rigjt people), but honestly, why not? Final Fantasy is the big SquareEnix IP for the west, FF is not that big in Japan if you compared it to the real money maker in Japan, Dragon Quest. Why would Square Enix keep FF as an RPG IP if westerners do NOT like RPG's? They already have one RPG franchise, Dragon Quest, they don't need Final Fantasy to be one. Just turn Final Fantasy into a God of War-type franchise, that'll sell a lot in the west. For all Final Fantasy fans, just switch to Dragon Quest and let FF d¡E
My view is that Rebirth is the blueprint of what Final Fantasy as a series should be going forward with.
Agreed. It has such a great combat system.
The worst selling final fantasy of the last 2 generations should be the blueprint?
@@CthulhuTheory are you SE employee? How do you know how much the game was sold?
Agreed. FF7 R combat system is fast and strategic enough to be the model going forward.
If SE could have made 16 with more RPG systems/design/exploration etc it would of been a great model going forward too.
Unfortunately 16 lacked all the hallmarks found in FF, like exploration/questing and RPG itemization for example were the biggest shortcomings to me.
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Wait, you serious?
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
*FF7 remake hack and slash trilogy
also sales are down lol wonder why
@@CthulhuTheoryyou are completely wrong.
What do you think should be the FF identity?
@@CthulhuTheory lmfao troll.
@@jdunc635 FF identity is turn based rpg. They can try to make action games but the franchise is about turn based.
Since Square already has the brilliant minds behind DMC and DD, I hope they can revive Dissidia without the floaty combat.
"High fantasy medieval steampunk"
Do you know what any of those words mean individually? Because steampunk, while it certainly could be high fantasy, is by definition not medieval. It's based on Victorian/Edwardian era technology.
Also I think the term you're actually looking for aetherpunk. And more specifically, steampunk inspired aetherpunk.
@@Gladissims Now looking at google, that's exactly what I meant. Didn't know the term of what I was talking about.
@@Gladissims I mean, you can have a medieval high fantasy world with steampunk and aetherpunk elements, this is literally the world of FFVI.
A Dragon's Dogma-style FF would be a dream come true for me.
I’d like FF17 to be turn based and have a world map. One can dream.
Me too ❤
I think they will.
@@acerimmer8338 1000% agree with you buddy ❤️
whether or not FF17 is turn base, ATB, or action, I just hope it has deep RPG mechanics.
So FFXV but with FF7R battle system?
To want them to hold off RPG elements over demanding they return is INSANITY. Final fantasy will never be an action game alone
@@SnowCoveredKK I don't think Soken is that great to be honest.

And by RPG state you mean...?
@@JoseRobertoAntunes-gq7gh Don't do anything 16 did, is the idea there.
I cannot deal with a FF game with a DMC combat system. It ruined FF16. They should use the combat system that FF7R did perfectly well. I wanted to use Torgal/Fenrir, Jill, Joshua, Cid, and Shula.
Except the system for 16 was not DMC. Maybe teemu DMC… or Wish DMC, but that abortion of a combat system was not it
I’d argue 16 wasn’t DMC enough
@@CthulhuTheory it is reasonably close to DmC, especially in arcade mode with the scoring system involved
I want a super sci fi ff game tbh. Really lean into it. Medieval/original fantasy aren't that interesting at the moment. I think they could also go mythological, that'd be cool. Something like ancient greek but with their own lore.
After beating FF16 I’ve never wanted to play it again. All the summon fights was cutscenes. It was basically Devil May Cry with Final Fantasy lore.
I just hope they don't stray even further from the franchises RPG roots.
Maybe an old west/fantasy style setting? Something different.
Got wild arms for that
I wish the director of nier would get a shot at final fantasy. He would trip so many people out but would definetly make an exceptional final fantasy game
After the next nier game sure
Itsuno failed to deliver a successful experience on DD1 and 2 what makes him good for FFXVII ?
I want it to be a first person shooter.
I really wish Square Enix would remake "The 7th Saga".
I hope ff17 is a modern day military setting with action jrpg and rts turn base.
I really wish that FF XVII gets the Futuristic style of XIII trilogy...
I just hope FF17 commits to a demographic instead of pandering to noobs
no, man, for the love of god
This and FF8 aesthetic wise are my favs of franchise.
Yeah I would love to see not a fantasy set in reality in HD like 15, but something much more futuristic like 8 and 13. But good.
I'd like to see 17 get back to the basics of Final Fantasy and try to appeal to a wider audience again
what was that 1st song in the beginning with the saxophone
Itsuno leaves Capcom" 😉
but it does make sense if you think about it that CBU3 now CS3 working on the next FF, CBU1 working on FF7 P3 and kingdom hearts 4, so what big team of Square with the man powers that can work on AAA game ?!
also Yoshi-P said that the team gained experience with FF16 and will be working on improving it in the next game they will work on, , so it's very likely that the next game from CS3 is going to be like FF16 combat stlye, but i don't know if it's FF17 or FF16 p2 or new IP maybe FF16 spin off ???
Rebirth meets 15 with more towns less bs chores and towers and big focus on building a world that feels lived in.
Bro if they make another dmc combat game I'll fuckin lose it.
Guaranteed to be a female lead cause the men have held it down for a while
Not a bad thing, we've got Terra and Lightning as leads in their own games which is why for me it'd be nice to see Nomura back as a character designer for the next mainline FF game.
I want female lead too!
Fine with me. Also make them blonde or redhead while we’re at it too many brunettes have been leading the games lol
If 17 is ANYTHING like 16, I will skip it with the most extreme prejudice.
It’s only fitting when FF7(Part3) comes to an end that FF17 begins.
"Just flows way better if you go faster in that game."
No kiddin'.
If they double down on an FF16-type game but remove whatever RPG there is left, then it needs to be called something other than Final Fantasy.
@@tiradegrandmarshal why?
If itsuno joins SE, he and the 16 engine should make a new IP
Why do we want DMC combat?? If anything Dragons Dogma's combat would be better suited for the next FF, and now that they have Itsuno I hope to god they do it.
I do remember Going through Dirge of Cerberus and I have seen Advent Children and I believe that they were a glimpse of things to come, No doubt FF7 Remake and the upcoming Sequels Rebirth and Reunion are destined to be the perfect Arch-Types of what gameplay, storyline and a incredible cast of characters that any Action RPG should be! what i want from FF17 hmm maybe a cyberpunk setting but a high fantasy like Frieren is welcome too, combat would definitely be action with obviously rpg elements to it and other playable characters like 7R which was badly missed in 16, open world like zelda botw, a female lead is in due at this point, since it would be an open world adventure i want it to be a lengthy game cuz i ain’t spending $70 on FF game that is only 20hrs long, SE has no shortage when it comes to music so im not worried about that but i do want Monaca the team that handled NieR’s music to be in FF17. i agree with what u said about characters of 7R vs 16 but while i highly prefer 7Rs characters more than 16 is definitely not cuz of bias. imo 7R character writing and the VAs gave more life and personality to FF7s characters a lot of fans were worried that they wouldn’t be able to capture Cloud’s character right but they did way better in 7R. now compared to FF16 which highly focused on Clive which was stupid imo it felt other characters lacking especially Jill, Benedikta was super short lived and had high potential as a villain in the same level as 7Rs turks, everyone loved Cid but i guess 16 devs didnt love him the same way too, Dion is another wasted character i woulda expect they would build more from him especially with what happened to his kingdom but yea this was still Clive’s game and Joshua is just meh tbh i would’ve wanted the suspicions of him being alive to be farther in the story rather than just blatantly showing to everyone hey he’s alive.
Imagine if they do a tactics style FF with modern graphics and everything ❤. FF17 will be another action rpg like 15,16, and the FF7 remake trilogy.
Square has 16 installments to use for reference. They shouldn't make mistakes.
Use Unreal Engine FFS. Don't ever dare touch your own game engine, Square.
What if Remake Part 3 is Final Fantasy 17? And it loops in some FFX content too?
Funny you say that. I actually think FF17 will be the sequel to part 3. In other words, they are ret-coning Advent Children and Dirge of Cerebrus. The story would focus on Vincent and new characters. So it would go like:
Final Fantasy 7
Crisis Core
Advent Children
Dirge of Cerberus
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Part 3
Final Fantasy 17
Before watching this, just what if they finish the Remake project. And it leaves you a little bit mystified. Then FF17 picks up on the outside of Edge. Boom. It's a fcuking Quad-Trumple. Oh my god guys I think they might do it
I agreed with everything you said regarding FF17 but its potential duration. I believe 30-35 hours is the bare minimun a 60-70 usd game should last, and more so for jrpgs as they are so story heavy, 20 h is just way too short in my opinion. Also, I didn't have any issues with the length of FF16, while some sections of the game were certainly less fun than others, the only parts of the main story that felt like padding to me were Mid's quests, and those certainly didn't last for 20 hours (more like 3)
Thank you.
I hope it will be a combination of 7 and 16😊
Bankrupcy would be great. Maybe this way Nintendo can purchase SE.
As long as it’s not turned based gameplay combat like rebirth would be cool
Are they really going to announce FF17 this early? I remember there was a lengthy period of time between FF15 and FF16. Announcing FF17 at this point would make FF16 have less of an impact in the franchise.
7, 8, 9 & 10 basically came out one year after the other (we were so lucky)
I want it to be better than FFVII. No game has come close, save X.
what are you talking about, this guy is old and want to retired, he just announced his retirement in after compiling tons of shit on dragon dogma 2, and leave that game dead as it is now.. just let him rest man.. we need younger gen take care of the games right now
I'm hopping they gl back to Ivalice and stick with a medevil setting we got more than enough steampunk rpgs as it is
i think is going to be cyberpunk kind of game but with magic similar system to ff8
Or they could go into aetherpunk.
Hear me out. Steampunk in space. Similar to the Disney movie Tressure Planet. I always thought steampunk would be a great addition to the FF series.
We need a female protagonist again for sure
Problem with FF it been fan of FF
Make Frankenstein of a game in they mind
New FF must have EVERYTHING that good in other FF put in together !❤😂
ngl i thought 16s combat got dry around halfway. it didn’t have as much depth to carry 50+ hrs. also 16s combat should come back but not for a mainline game. i know most fans will agree with me. the next mainline needs rpg elements, full party and combat should be turn base or ff7r type
I want turn based to come back
If CBu3 is behind 17, it better learn from the mistake they made with 16
If I'm not mistaken, Square never let the same people work on a main title back to back.. Historically they always alternate.
Did Kitase not make 6, 7 and 8 one after the other? What about Sakaguchi making 1-5?
@@JKSmith-qs2ii Nojima was also the scenario writer for 7, 8, and 10.
I'm all for it if it's the complete opposite of XVI and has actual RPG mechanics and isn't boring as shit
Set it in the world of FF6 please
It won't be in the world of Final Fantasy 6 but we see elements of world bleed into it including future Final Fantasy games. Hopefully it goes into aetherpunk settings.
I'm not spending 80euros and waiting 6 yrs of development for a 20hrs game... When a game is good I wanna play as much as I can and when it's bad I just stop playing and I don't go on just because "it's only 20hrs long, might as well finish it".
Agreed. This guy has some weird takes...
16 was to long ? ok dude your tripping here closed the video right after that frame.
I hope this one is wrong in the case of Hideaki Itsuno.
YoshiP should get second try for other mainline final fantasy
No devil may cry crap in final fantasy I hate it
Just bring back the classic turns base
Please don't go down the route of FF16 again. Not much depth, not really any fun side quests, button mashing and no strategy, , one character only and no leveling or unique build methods.
Combat isn't much of a concern for me. I played old school FF games for their story telling and characters. The single player games haven't delivered on that front since X. 23 years straight and they keep botching it and I don't understand why.
We want ff15 again. Not this garbage which is made just so 10 year olds don’t get bored of the game
Yoshi P needs to stick to 14
dont forget FF16 is actually developed by the guy who makes DMC combat from capcom.
For all Final Fantasy fans, just switch to Dragon Quest and let FF d¡E
chosen haha
I was hoping someone would catch that!
