One of the funniest episodes of the series. Alan Brady at his maniacal best. Carl Reiner was so multi-talented; acting, writing, directing. He could do it all!!!
I watched this show since I was a kid in the 70s. Watching it now I realize what great actors Van Dyke and Tyler More were. Their timing and facial expressions and body movements. Amazing
Being a kid in the 90’s, that designer guy was some of the only “representation” for us fancy types I ever remember seeing that wasn’t a gross stereotype. Love that guy.
She was uncredited in that role, so as not to damage the reputations of credited screenwriters. This was a common practice in Hollywood for many years.
I realize watching this show, and its original pilot, 'Head of the Family' why Carl Reiner rarely acted, and worked mostly behind the scenes as a writer and producer. He had an angry energy that was just too much.
@5:22 min. I am 100% sure the writers wrote: " You know what you are? You are a Mensch." And then the studio said: "You can't say that -- it's Yiddish."
Thats what is read on Wikki. But I remember seeing on Documentry Allen Brady was based on Steve Allen. Which makes sence to me. From the name to the late night spot to the NYC studio.
@@johnchristophersutton9706That's nice. I couldn't care less what their personalities are. I said he was based on him. And that's not my opinion. Right or wrong I read it.
Geez...Carl Reiner himself said that Alan Brady was NOT based on Sid Caesar. He based him on a combination of Milton Berle & Jackie Gleason. Everyone just assumed it was Sid Caesar. Once again what happens when something is assumed is proven. Edit: I'm not going to spend all night looking for direct quotes to back me up but here's 2... Many assumed that Rob's toupée-topped tyrant of a boss, Alan Brady, was based on Sid Caesar, whose shows Reiner had worked on for many years. Reiner emphatically denied this claim, explaining in one interview that the character was a combination of Milton Berle, who was "notorious for yelling at his crew and ordering people around", and Jackie Gleason, who "really was mean to his writers". and Brady, Reiner said, was not based on any single person. “In those days there were a lot of comedian-stars of variety shows and none of them was as bad as Alan,” he said. “Milton Berle was known to be a tyrant--he would blow a whistle and yell at people. Phil Silvers was a noisy one. I worked with Sid Caesar for nine years and everybody thought I might be doing Sid, but Sid was a pussycat compared to this guy.”

Great Rob and Allan scenes. The scene with 'Vito the Tailor' marking Alan's suit is worthy of Show of Shows.
*Alan
Glad YOU like Alan (you're about the only who does)!
"Rob, that's cruel. He's a widower." Oh my God!
"Buck Brown, the cowboy star?" "Hardly!" Too funny, especially for 1965.
Before April 12, 1971, nobody made jokes like that.
@@joksal9108 What happened on that date?
...sorry I flared.
@@fredkruse9444See The Maltese Falcon.
I was in love with rose Marie, back in 1963!
The great Strother Martin, "What we've got here is failure to communicate ..."
He was the US junior diving champion in high school. He coached stars in swimming, it's how he got in show business.
@@saran3214 Thanks for that info., I had no idea! 😉
The playwright Strother Martin played here reminds me of the playwright Tennessee Williams
@@flwrfan1752 That was intentional.
And coincidentally, this episode is about their failure to communicate to Strother that his play needs fixing!
Laura looks absolutely gorgeous in that nightgown
Alan is a nightmare, Carl does a good job, was a funny guy
Strother Martin! Great character actor, in everything!

Thanks for the upload.💜
Alan Brady called his tailor, Vito Schneider. Schneider is the German word for tailor.
Carrie Fisher, of Star Wars fame, was also a renowned script fixer.
So looking this up now that’s cool thanks for info .
Good thing ..cause she was a BAD actress.
Really?!
She was uncredited in that role, so as not to damage the reputations of credited screenwriters. This was a common practice in Hollywood for many years.
Great one!😁👍
I think Carl Reiner was a comic genius.
Morey Amsterdam had His own show for a while!
Did you know Dick Van Dyke campaigned for Bernie Sanders in 2019-18? He's at a rallie waiting for sanders to show up.
Dick is a nice guy, but he’s an idiot about politics.
12:55 The German shepherd Dog touched the closet and he almost distracted his owner LOL🤣
1:39 - another continuity error. Alan's office is down 1 floor - not "up"

Carl was playing a character. Alan Brady was angry, not Carl.
@@randilevson9547 That's what I meant. But all of his characters and his writing was angry, so I guess he was.

I don’t think the “ U” in Pulitzer was palatalized.
It isn't -- Rob doesn't say it palatalised, though. What do you mean?
Rob marking up the pants had me in actual tears...& I don't laugh much.

I wonder how Sid Caesar felt about this show, since Alan is based on Sid...
