Carl Reiner was an excellent writer but Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore were so well matched for their parts you'd think they were married in real life.
I know!! Funny you mention that because I have the DVDs and have been watching them for years and I've probably seen this episode like a 100x but somehow that line always got past me. I just noticed it the other night and totally cracked up! 😆😆
Dick Van Dyke's brilliance was/is beyond compare. He's why so many got into the business. John Ritter loved him and his Jack Tripper mannerisms were taken right from Rob Petrie. Others who have cited him as an influence include Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Conan O'Brien, Jim Carrey, Paul Reiser and Bryan Cranston
I love Laura's dress, it was so elegant. Probably annoying to wear. The clothes, hair, houses, furniture were so much more sophisticated. We have lost that glamour.
@@amierichan7231 MTM had a beautiful body, all she had to do was put any dress on and she looked unreal. Sally and Millie also had good figures. No need for restrictive undergarments, like say, Spanx. What heavy makeup were any of the women on that show wearing? As for hairstyles, they are ridiculous now and wirh more product and work.
He worked more as a Director than as an actor, in fact he directed episodes of 7 other series while DVD was still in production, including That Girl and The Munsters. He even directed films including Police Academy 2 and Police Academy 3.
Where was Richie when Rob and Laura were out to dinner? No babysitter was there when they got back. Richie seemed to disappear and re-appear as needed. Most people have permanent children.
No I think Ritchie was staying the night with a friend. Or at Jerry and Millie's place with Freddie That's usually how they write his absence in some of the episodes.
Either Jerry has a second office down town or the writers messed up and all the actors and crew had a brain lapse because Jerry's dental office is in HIS HOUSE!😂 Thanks for the upload.❤
I never could stand MTM on this show, but liked her on her 1970s show. On this show, she was always wired, cried alot, and was a pain in the butt annoying person. This show was funny and I liked the other cast.
Well sign of the time as to how tv wives temperaments were supposed to be. But then they had Sally as a successful comedy writer. So at least there was that example that was not the norm back then. ❤
Jerry Paris was so good on this show.
I love him. Bummed me out that his frequent directing prevented frequent acting.
not QUITE!!
Yes, he's really not that good of an actor.
See him as Ens. Barney Harding in THE CAINE MUTINY (1954).
“Poor Millie” - awesome writing!!!
Carl Reiner was an excellent writer but Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore were so well matched for their parts you'd think they were married in real life.
Yes Shakespeare never wrote that.
MTM scenes at restaurant were just perfect! DVD too!
"He brought her home?" I always liked that line.

He also sings & dances.
He's the GOAT
He's also now good friends with Bryan Cranston. BC was on an episode of Diagnosis Murder, too
None of those actors came even remotely close to the original!

Love Mary Tyler Moore in this

Along with the restrictive undergarments, plastic hair styles and the need for such heavy makeup.

I always loved her style!
Yes we have lost the glamour
it is remarkable what a naturally great comedic actor MTM was .
My favorite sitcom, possibly the best sitcom ever, love all the cast, but talk about jumping to conclusions, really poor jerry!!!
funniest part of the whole episode was at the very end
Rob and Laura played awkward moments 😬very funny they were so good at that they went together so well a great couple
Millie was always so funny. She should have been on more eps.
imdb says she was on 61 eps...
it also says larry matthews was in every episode...
he wasnt in this one!
jerry was in 39 eps?
🙏✝️🕊️ for my beloved Brother James who passed away last Monday
So very sorry for your loss. 🙏🏼🛐
I'm sorry about your dear brother.
Back in the 60's, my mother's best friend's name was Millie.
My mother's name was "Millie."
Impossible
@@garyfrancis6193 And Mary Ty,ler Moore would appear in "Thoroughly Modern Millie" after "The Dick Van Dyke Show" went off the air!
That Jerry…..!
Jerry Paris used his director experiences on the Dick Van Duke for his times as director on Happy 😊 Days.
Who's Dick Van Duke? Is that John Wayne's cousin?😂

In every other episode, Jerry had his office on his home.
Laura waa getting her daily exercise by JUMPING to conclusions, causing Rob to CLIMB the walls in an attempt to give Jerry thr benefit of her doubt.
Sometimes you see 🙈 Dick Van Duke's assistant in these episodes
Yes, Frank Adamo.😀
Everyone knows that. My guess is you’re ten years old.
3:03 The waiter was like: 🤨
What I don’t understand is Laura doesn’t want Rob to turn around or Jerry might recognize him but wouldn’t Jerry recognize Laura facing him?
The redhead was Dr. Zorba? That's a "Ben Casey" reference! Did Dr. Gillespie from "Dr. Kildare" ever get name-checked?
Originaly telecast on April 22, 1964.
Where was Richie when Rob and Laura were out to dinner? No babysitter was there when they got back. Richie seemed to disappear and re-appear as needed. Most people have permanent children.
The show never really developed the Richie character. He was more of a nuisance than a son. Larry Matthews wasn't a good actor.
No I think Ritchie was staying the night with a friend. Or at Jerry and Millie's place with Freddie That's usually how they write his absence in some of the episodes.
@@shelynaemerald4676my thoughts exactly.
He was at my place and we placed cowboys and Indians with his nuclear moon bsse mop up kit.
Hilarious
How can Jerry be busy at the office when his dentist office is at his home?
His main office is in downtown NY. Rob refers to it when talking to Jerry on the phone. His home office is for the locals in New Rochelle.
how was this episode not named “Poor Millie”?…
Because “ Poor Millie”.
Turns out there wasn't poor Millie
Rob reminds me of Chandler Bing from Friends. Literally!
Chandler Bing reminds you of Rob.

I think Jerry had an office in the city and another in his home.
They earlier came in through what is actually the closet; then midway when they go to the den, the doors are reversed
'...drive in together"? Jerry works from home (dentist office).
Laura lijes to meddle.
My choice tonight was watching HBO milk GOT for another ridiculous series ...or The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Well, here I am.
Poor Millie.
We don’t even know if it’s poor Millie!
There was no poor Millie

You can really see how much better she has got at acting in Mary Tyler Moore show and even later seasons of this show.
