Amazing work Craig and PB. I wonder how many other Plumbers didn't pick up the flow and return pipe issue. Well done. I bet that family are over the moon now.
When I first started on heating, I did my first powerflush on a 4 bed extended house (12 rads). I took two days and couldn't get the farthest rads cleared. I ended up leaving the job - no charge. It was only when I was clearing up that I noticed a small extra rad behind the door in the livingroom. It had been open the whole time. I was so pissed off that I still just left. Lesson learned though :)
I went back to the FLIR from the beginning after i've understood the pipe layout. At around 7:40 you can clearly see that the little heat that the bedroom radiator is receiving is beeing fed backwards into it. The return is hotter than the inlet because of that flow-short. Not something i'd expect to see daily but if you come across something like that again you might diagnose it way faster by realising the backfeed. Stil nice work!
Yup, without knowing exactly what was said, it could've been one of those off-hand answers: 'how long have you had a problem' and saying it was ok originally, rather than a deliberate attempt at deception. Not realising that answer was that important - I expect they assumed it was plumbed in correctly. 🤷♂️
@@NickChristy But what would the customer get from saying it? With the poor flow as it was piped, sediment may well have built up over time causing that totally cold rad.
Pete when you changed the diaphragm in the WC sisters I noticed it had a red low pressure orifice insert … that was why it let by as it can’t hold back mains water pressure and you have to change for the correct one 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻
Had something similar years ago the hot water cylinder was in 28mm as it was gravity feed the issue was when the trvs shut off the boiler and pump would keep running because there was no return with all the rad valves off so put in a link between flow and return with a 15mm gate valve only part way open so if all the rads shut down the water would still return to the boiler then when boiler sensed it was at max temp it would shut down and not overheat when flow was cut off
The custard is always right and never lies!!! Maybe should of changed that red low pressure seating in the float operated valve to a white high pressure seating though. I used to have a Flir for my iPhone and found it great for tracking hidden pipework. Great video guys.
I've been to 5 or 6 jobs myself where the bypass is hidden away under the floor, some plumber comes along fitted a combi and not turned it off or alter the pipework, the landing carpet is lovely and warm but the radiators are not !

Excellent detective work chaps! I bet they were chuffed! I suppose the take home lesson is to double check a system as soon as the boiler location has changed?

So, if called in for a power flush, first check all radiators with the thermal 'radar' and report to customer with any radiator issue before doing the work. That will avoid a customer maybe pulling a fast one if more work needs doing to fix the real issue at the plumber's expense. Great video.
Was the link not a by pass to protect the pump if all trv's were closed. These boilers used to require a by pass a number of years ago which always had a gate valve just cracked open to prevent a short circuit in the pipework. Just wondering.
I had a new boiler fitted in july 21 and the engineer could not get more than 3 radiators hot, his head office said it needed a repipe and the cost would be £4000, I declined and then increased the pressure from 1 on the boiler to 2 then opened all radiators fully, bled the system, then reduced the pressure to 1.5, there is only 1 radiator out of 14 not fully working and that's because I kinked the 10 mm pipe. I am not a plumber, just the person that pays the bills
I was in the same position taking the customers information instead of checking first it ended up that there was problem with the system all along ill not do that again from that experiance
Do you think they had a single pipe radiator system then the new boiler was installed with a two pipe system? I can't see how a plumber would screw this up so bad? Ps To get a true reading off shiny pipes or rads. Place electrical tape on the object and measure only on the tape. This will give you much more consistent readings.

It essentially rapidly bangs against the outside of the radiator (hammer drill on hammer only so it doesn't rotate) and helps dislodge any particles clinging to the rad which are then flushed out the system.

I've had my boiler serviced, they didn't do half the work you guys did on this boiler. What should I expect from a boiler service? They didn't clean with a brush like in the video and spray the heating elements etc. Maybe ours wasn't that dirty but we're going to like 3 years since ours was installed.
customer would of paid for a full service. what costs more than a standard service. on a standard (basic) service, is more of a boiler check. making sure everything is working safely and effciently.
Worcester bosch has a fan pressure test point. If it sucks over a certain pressure you don't need to do the full strip down as per the manufacturers instructions. What a service entails depends on what the manufacturer tells you to do in the book.
People lie like that to get a plumber through the door, they are afraid if they tell the truth that it’s too much of a pita for plumbers to want the job.
@@stuartgammie1862 I work in a hospital and the taps are always getting rotated and the basins are the deep ones where you can't physically grab round the sink to do them up

The minute I saw the 28s joined , he ha, what clowns did that boiler change, at first I thought you were going find a 28mm gate valve /bypass fully open , not summat as daft as that !
I agree a professional plumber/gas trade person would have done the job right the first time.... this one fitting & ran...... a power flush is first thing you do to tick it off the list providing you use X800 then put in X100 & X200 or others........ Combi boilers are just not worth it full stop they cost you more than you save .... POS falsely listed as A but you put it on two mode it's a F no savings + servicing costs Would have been cheaper for a multi fuel back boiler to heat the place & have less issues with heating the house...... gas high flow boiler (pos) your throwing money out of the flue stack (left to right) gas boiler @125 deg max - Soild fuel heating 125 - 185 max oh yes more than 50% cheaper to run.
I think you're doing the customer an injustice. They might be bare faced lying or they might just wrongly thought that it used to be warmer, just like television used to be better 10 years ago. Your penny drop moment was at the end when you realised you should have questioned the need for a powerflush. The customer had come to you with a solution to their problem and you hadn't quizzed them about what had led them to the conclusion that the powerflush was the way forward. Provided you handled the customer well, said you'd flushed and found an issue with the pipework so it would cost a bit more, you could very well end up with a customer who praises you to all who will listen. If you did handle them well, the next step would be to call them after a couple of weeks and ask if it's all working properly. They will say yes of course, but you earn yourself some brownie points by keeping your name in their minds and gaining a reputation of caring about your work and customer after care.

Good find on the pipe work error 💪
Brilliant were u soaked him 😂
People lie like that to get a plumber through the door, they are afraid if they tell the truth that it’s too much of a pita for plumbers to want the job.
Great work
Why would they even lie about the degradation of the system? They've now had to pay for a powerflush they didn't even need. Very strange.
Question how do you stop a tap from rotating when tightening a flexi
Just make sure the tap is tight enough before connecting it m8 👍if in doubt hold the tap(sometimes you need arms as long as an orangutan🤣)
@@stuartgammie1862 I work in a hospital and the taps are always getting rotated and the basins are the deep ones where you can't physically grab round the sink to do them up
Two people then m8, get someone to hold the tap while you tighten it and then add your flexi
If you work in a hospital then you should be using hard pipe ie copper and not flexible hoses on taps and fittings to comply with L8 legionnaire risk management.
@@shandd9640 thats a very good point, can't believe I missed that 🤦♂️
‘Kind of enjoying the cold showers’ yeah ok tell your face mate
charming!
Hehe only joking mate tbf I’d wouldn’t look to happy after a cold shower either 👍🏻
The minute I saw the 28s joined , he ha, what clowns did that boiler change, at first I thought you were going find a 28mm gate valve /bypass fully open , not summat as daft as that !
Do plumbers get paid by the job or do they get paid like I do in the adult film industry , by the scene ?
I'm not a plumber but you can't beat the satisfaction of success after some head scratching.
POS falsely listed as A but you put it on two mode it's a F no savings + servicing costs
Would have been cheaper for a multi fuel back boiler to heat the place & have less issues with heating the house...... gas high flow boiler (pos) your throwing money out of the flue stack (left to right) gas boiler @125 deg max - Soild fuel heating 125 - 185 max oh yes more than 50% cheaper to run.
great detective work that
I think you're doing the customer an injustice.
Did you completely flush the system after you altered the pipework ?? If not your first flush only cleaned out 20 foot of copper piping 🤔🤔
Yes mate we did 👍🏼
