    So far I've tested Amazon Basics, Motul, and Subaru OEM. AMS Oils is the next one on the list. I've noticed that while Subaru did extremely well, when using the 100% synthetics instead of full synthetics the car will NOT burn oil.

    I've used most engine oils in the same car and I can tell you that Castrol an Mobil 1 made my pistons ping and many other oils did it too. But then I switch to Kendal and the pinging was gone and the engine was smoother. I also tried Amsoil and I did not noticed a huge (but there was a small difference) difference from Kendal. Then I changed to Pennzoil and it seems to perform the same as Kendal. I also tried Quaker and I did not hear any pinging nor other symptoms. I also opened the engine top and I did find the metal darker specially at some parts like under the camshaft or at corners. Now I have switch to Royal Purple and the engine seems to be running smoother and not as hot as before, and it feels more powerful, and so far no pinging yet. It's the same vehicle, the same oil viscosity (5W-20) for all brands and full synthetic (I always used the best version from each brand, for example Amsoil Signature Series, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, etc) and always changed at 5K (give or take 100 miles). With the Royal Purple I have started with their basic synthetic oil, and the vehicle is performing better than with any of the other oils. The next one I will try is the Royal Purple HPS which is supposed to really clean the engine, as shown in a real life example (see the video titled "Did Royal Purple ruin my BMW engine? Royal Purple Part 3"). But I wonder why you refused to test Royal Purple, what's the reason? Anyhow, after watching that video I decided to try it and the vehicle is running better than with Amsoil and Pensoil. Also, I was going to try Motul but after watching the results of the oil in the channel of "Project Farm" where he compares many oils across the board, it's one of the worst. I also saw other videos form other channels about Motul and it does not clean the engine at all when compare to Amsoil or Pennzoil, and it also evaporates faster than most. I'm surprise many recommend it. I have also compared the results from Blackstone Labs provided in another channel here from various oils and Motul is no better than Amsoil or Pennzoil or even Quaker. Again, why don't you wanna try Royal Purple? I would like to add your results to my statistics.
    This is a certified hood classic.

    Love the idea of bringing this series to your channel. I'd be interested in seeing the results of Schaeffer's Supreme 9000 Full Synthetic oil. 5W-30. Smaller batch oil, like Schaeffer's, tend to have a more generous amount of friction modifiers (Micron Moly/ Penetro) to resist thinning at high temps.
    No question that some of these larger batch oil brands have reduced additives, over the years, to appease car manufacturers and support their goal of providing longer warranties to the catalytic converter. Smaller batch brands are not influenced to follow the same "standard". May want to try their oil for your series as it would bring some good variation to your test results. Schaeffer's is all I've ever ran in my Stage 2+ pro-tuned 2018 STI, for whatever that's worth.

    Awesome! It would help a lot if you have oil pressure and temp gauges installed, they show how pressure reacts to heat.
    When up to operating temps, 30 weight oil shears down to 5psi at idle or less. Very scary. Subaru recommends 5w30 viscosity for EPA standards.
    I stopped using Rotella T6 since my last two oil changes and now use Castrol Edge 0w40 Euro. It gets to the bearings quicker than 5w oil, idle pressure is 14-20psi, where it should be at operating temps. Oil pressure is much better at high RPMs over T6.
    T6 is meant for increased load and heat at low to mid RPMs, that's why it's a diesel oil. At high RPMs, T6 is susceptible to aerating. Some have also spun bearings with T6.
    As a daily, use 40 weight. If you're tracking for long periods, use 50 weight (of the same brand and blends). Drain and use 40 weight afterwards since 50 weight will cause wear every morning. What brand? It's up to you...

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got the oil pressure gauge installed, was talking with one of my buddy's and he brought up a good point to treat how long it takes the oil pressure to get to a normal operating range, and how long it takes to fully build pressure in the system. Awesome feedback also, T6 had always been a oil that's talked about so it will be interesting to see how it reacts when tested and what the tests from the lab come back as

    • @octurbojoe
      @octurbojoe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Smeedia Yeah if I'm late, I'm late, lol. I'll save the bearings. It takes me 5 minutes to wait until pressure drops down to 50psi and *coolant* temp goes up 160°F. I'll drive around like a pussy, no more than 3K rpms until I see the oil temp needle come up to 140°F for normal driving up to 4K rpms. I don't hit redline until temps are at least 180°F, with oil pressure being already at normal operating temps at 14psi.

    Dont know the base, probably a HC base oil since its the entry level oil of castrol, but the additive package is quite good, even more on used oil. Molibdenum, not much calcium but enough magnesium to compensate, boron.

    I changed to t6 5w 40 from motul 5w 40. Notice little less feedback knock not sure if it’s correlated lol but motul does hold its color for quite sometime. I used Castrol gtx 5w40 and noticed it discolored pretty quickly. I tended to change oil almost every 1-2k miles, or based on if I’m driving it harder then usual. Haha. I fell down the rabbit hole of oil performance haha. Discovered 5w40 is a little nicer for modified EJ motors since our cars run hot but oil coolers help mitigate that. Popular oils for EJs are Motul, Rotella T6, and schaffers. All those are really good. Even tho t6 is for diesel it’s good for cars without cats. I just got a sponsorship with Puröl and highly highly recommend you check them out. Even tho they are new they provide amazing specs.

    Most people get this backwards but the first number is the actual weight of the oil. The additives make the 5 weight oil act like a 30 or 40 weight at or around 212 degrees. 5 weight means it has the viscosity 5 times that of water. Water is the baseline whitch would be 0.

      @@Smeedia I've been a diehard mustang guy and owned 7 of them among other various ford vehicles. 2019 was a very bad year for me and I had to trade in my 2016 mustang 5.0 with a performance package and a loaded 2013 ford raptor crew cab.. I've always respected subaru, especially the STI's, because being a mustang guy I could never out launch their AWD. That, along with their practicality, fuel mileage, seating for four, and all weather capabilities made it the car of choice if I had to have a practical car that still feels sporty and fun to drive. My WRX had 35,001 miles on it when I bought it Dec 8th and I've put a thousand on it since then. It's blue and bone stock. Aside from the mileage it felt brand new. It has nowhere near the power my mustang had, BUT, it launches really well. It feels like a little go kart to me because of the low nose and the AWD. It really is super fun to drive and I have plans for it. I have a degree in automotive technology and high performance engineering, so learning about this car coming from domestics is fun and one of the reasons I've been drawn to your channel. There aren't many WRX's or STI's where I live here in Wichita, KS, so I'm planning to make mine a 400 to 500hp mustang and camaro killer if it's even possible on the FA20 motor. We'll see, I'm still researching it.. anyways, thanks again and I look forward to chatting more and seeing more videos!!

    Been looking for an answer to this question for a long time. What is the best oil? Love all your content, though especially this series. Gained a subscriber for sure. Excited to finally find out what the best oil is. Just bought my first Subaru (also my first turbo car) 3 weeks ago. 02 Subaru Impreza Wrx bugeye. Falling in love with it and the community surrounding the car more and more everyday. Got great plans for the Bugeye though it's gonna be a long journey. Winning that AOS would absolutely be amazing. Keep up the great content man!! 😁

      Bug eyes are one of my favorites! Congrats on picking one up 😁 this series will be an exciting one. Actually get the data behind all of the oils. Granted they will be somewhat different from car fo car but using mine as a control should give some interesting results.
      Appreciate the support! 😁

      @@Smeedia Bugeyes are my second favorite. Hawkeye is my first 😍 But they're pretty expensive haha. Thanks for the reply! Hope you enjoy your New Year's!

    I was seriously considering an AOS after watching your reliability video. Might be the first 'mod' I do on my 15 WRX wether or not I win one.

    I’ve been using Penzoil Platnium Plus based off forum research when I originally bought the car. Fingers crossed for that AOS :)
